Alicia is the best. She is kind, helpful, and caring. She makes you feel very comfortable and at ease. My grandmother was here for about 5 weeks and was well cared for. Unfortunately she fell in the middle of the night trying to use the bathroom herself, leaving her with a broken arm and wrist. This was no one's fault, but it was concerning that patients who are fall risks do not have alarms on their beds. Either way, admin was great to talk to on the phone and listened deeply to my concerns. The place is by far the cleanest rehab you will find. Shout out to the cleaning crew who were also very friendly! The staff is pretty welcoming and friendly. Jasmine was great and always had a warm smile. Front desk ladies always greeted me with a smile. PT and OT appear to be fantastic and did a wonderful job with my grandmother. Additionally, they kept my grandmother clean and well taken care of.

Struggling because I loved Rivers Edge. I had my sister with intellectual disabilities there 3x. They taught her how to walk again after a bad fall. It was a no brainer when I chose Rivers Edge for her to receive hospice when her cancer metastasized since she was already a rehab patient there. Everything was great until hospice took over. I was told by the hospice provider she would be given her pain meds every few hours by syringe. A few days later someone decided to try a fentanyl patch. It didn't work. I had to fight through hell to get her agitation & pain taken seriously. They kept telling me they couldn't overmedicate her or she'd get addicted. She was dying.!! There was some kind of miscommunication with the hospice nurse which led to her care delayed. Seemed like no one understood the purpose of hospice is to keep the person comfortable so they can die peacefully. The hospice sent someone back out to see what was going on & was as flabbergasted as I was as to why they weren't taking her pain & agitation seriously. They kept giving her meds crushed in apple sauce to the point she was starting to aspirate. Seemed as if the staff didn't understand. I don't understand what the miscommunication was but I was the one who had to sit there with my poor sister screaming & kicking her legs since the cancer was in her bones. Your nurses continually told me she wasn't in pain,. She most definitely was since she was literally screaming. I had to witness all that & be told things like "calm down" "you're too focused on your sister" Even after all I dealt with there, I was still going to recommend your facility until I had an encounter with one if your charge nurses, Shaunte. On 4/23 Tues she was the nurse supervisor at the first floor nurses' station. She usually worked upstairs so maybe she was filling in. We had questions about medications my sister was getting & when I said hospice was coming back that night to see what they can do, the nurse rolled her eyes & said "they been here already today" I was shocked at the eye roll but needed to be civil. I said "well they have to come back out & make recommendations" she said "well they can make all the recommendations they want but it doesn't mean we are going to follow them" No reason for her to talk like that to me. I had nightmares that night about my sister screaming in pain & none of your people caring. I was sick. Hospice came & made the recommendation (still as confused as I was as to why it had to get to that point) which were implemented the next day. My sister only had one day of continuous comfort. She died the next day on 4/25 I still feel traumatized by her pain & agitation not being taken seriously & the fact I trusted your facility to make her comfortable. Then to have that charge nurse talk to me like that not even 48hrs before my sister died. Shame on you for having such a person as a supervisor. The rest of your staff are well meaning & kind. Out of the 100 or so nurses I've dealt with during my sister's illness not one was rude & unprofessional to me like that.. Does your facility not understand the gravity of when a patient is in hospice & what the family is dealing with?. The CNAs, receptionists, most of the nurses, Alisha & kitchen staff were all great & empathetic & wonderful which led to me being shocked at having to deal with someone so nasty like that. My sister was dying. Another recommendation is to make your activities director know who is in hospice & who is not. She came into my sister's room & chided her for not getting out of bed & doing things. It's her job to get patients up, I get that. There shouid just be some kind of note or symbol. At that point, my sister was not out of bed for 5wks & was pretty much nonverbal since the cancer was wreaking havoc in her brain. If she tried to get up she would've collapsed due to muscle atrophy. You guys need to make a notation or something. If she got up due to being confused she could have fallen & with cancer in her bones that would've been awful.

PT and OT are amazing top notch. Work as a team, challenge you! Individually everyone one is very nice and caring. They do not work as a team. There is no internal communication and i have never been somewhere that the vibe is thats not my job. Nurses and aids barely speak to each other or ignore each other. Kitchen staff doesn't communicate with the nurses and aids or the nurses and aids choose not to listen. The food is repetitive and not the healthiest. nothing changes. Grilled cheese and toasted cheese are not the same. Breakfast should not be carbs only. Toast goes stale when you put it under a lid. Cream chipped beef should be served in a bowl when you know it is going to sit a while before it gets to the patient and please please give them more than one tbsp. Hot dogs should not be served more than once a month and fries get soggy when you put them under a dome. Condiments should be real mustard and real ketchup. If necessary have multiple menus for the health of the patient. Just like everything else, one size does not fit all! Filling patients with carbs and all canned vegetables and fruit is not acceptable. For the money that patients and insurance companies are paying, i don't think it is too much to offer some kind of fresh fruit or vegetable with each meal. Absolutely no variety! I feel bad for those who cannot order out or have family who can afford to bring outside food in. Wawa and fast food get old very fast. For the record, i am 55 years old with stage 4 cancer. I fell and fractured my hip which is what ultimately landed me here. Any of the changes i mentioned would vastly improve the facility and i didn't eve mention the treatment of patients with dementia or the horrible smell from upstairs. I want to say a special ty to the cleaning staff especially Tasha. They were always kind and took a moment to ask how you are and mean it. I want to say to Lizette, Tanya, Lizzette, Valerie, Iesha, Tasha, mikre, amber and the whole PT,OT team but especially Alicia. Thank you fir the care you did offer. I never would have gotten through this with out you all. There is more but i cant remember their names. Thank you for the care and i hope things change and fast.

My mother has spent time in a few rehab facilities before her stay at River's Edge and has not had nice things to say about the staff. She has been at River's Edge for one week and cannot say enough about how helpful and friendly everyone is. The peace this gives her family is beyond words. Thank you, River's Edge, for everything you do!
