The Birches at Harleysville – Reviews

February 2024
I attended an event at The Birches and it was so fun! The community is clean and beautiful, and it's clear that the staff love their jobs and their residents. The residents I spoke to are very happy. Highly recommend The Birches if you're looking for a safe, comfortable community for your family member.

I moved into The Birches a few weeks ago after spending the last almost four years at the independent living nextdoor. Everyone has been so nice, welcoming, and helpful in my transition here. It's like they could not do enough and that they want to do more for you. The community is clean, the meals are good and everyone is very friendly. From my first meeting with the executive director who came out to my place nextdoor, to my tour with marketing, they truly live up to their great reputation in the area. Lots of beautiful people here and I am happy that I made the move.

I am a resident at The Birches. I like it here, I feel they do a great job in considering every persons needs and they do meet our needs. The staff is very pleasant and helpful

Absolutely love the Birches! I was visiting family and attended the Summerfest. I was so happy to see the interaction with the residents and the staff. Each and everyone that day had bright smiles and enjoyed themselves. As we ventured around the facility, I took notice at how clean and organized it was. Staff was very sweet and pleasant. You can tell they care for their residents and want to make them feel at home. The Birches is highly recommended in my book!

I’ve been working here at The Birches at Harleysville for a little over a month, and every day I’m so thankful I got this job. It’s more than a job. The work we are doing is fulfilling and meaningful, and the staff and residents are like family. This is a small community where the staff really gets to know the residents. I would feel comfortable recommending The Birches to all my friends and loved ones because they really care about people and lead with love.

This is the best job I ever had!!! The Executive Director Justin goes above and beyond. I have seen him on the floor, working with the residents, doing care, helping at meal times. I work in the Resident Care department and Ellen who is my boss is a great nurse and boss. I love working in memory care although I don't mind working in PC. Robin in Human Resources is wonderful I love how she helps the staff in anyway she can. Robin goes above and beyond to help you with any paperwork or human resources related issues. Norma in dining does a great job with her department and Angel is a excellent cook and pays a lot of attention to cleaning. Bryan and his team take care of the building and it is a really clean place. Everyone that you work with is nice and it is a family like atmosphere. I would highly recommend this community to anyone and everyone! I Love it here!

Could not be more pleased with the staff at the birches. Everyone is very upbeat and friendly. The executive direction Justin Mason was so knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve been looking for a place for my grandmother for months I’m so glad that we picked the birches. The staff works so well together, i couldn’t have hand picked them better myself. Such a wonderful place to live!

Amazing staff and super fun events. Residents always look happy and every event I’ve been at the residents are out and having a good time. I wish my grandma lived in a place so upbeat and loving!!

I have a unique perspective of The Birches, as I have been the Executive Director for the last two plus years, but am also a family member as well. My Grandfather is a resident in the Personal Care section of our community, and chose to move here six months ago, after spending two years at another local personal care home. I have always been so impressed and biased of our staff and our community, but since his arrival here, I have a new appreciation for each and every member of our wonderful staff and the loving care that they give each day. My grandfather went from someone who rarely participated in anything other than happy hour at his prior residence, to joining almost every activity here. He stops by daily and is excited about happenings, tells me about his great meals, and has been doing so much better with his mobility after working with FOX rehab, that he goes on shopping trips to the local Walmart and walks the entire length of the store now! And my Grandfather's story is not unique to our community, but is shared by many of our other residents. I am so very fortunate to be welcomed into our residents home each day and do a job that I love. I am also so very thankful for the memories that I am able to create with and for them, and for the staff that are part of creating them for my own family too.

I put this out earlier. I am not just the bus driver, I am also the assistant Activities coordinator for your loved ones. I try to help keep them active both physically, mentally and take them for medical care. I also transport them to activities to keep them active. I know you are all busy and working hard to keep them safe and secure. I treat them as if they were my parents that have passed on and would be 94 years old today. The staff feels the same. We are all committed to your loved ones.

I truly can't say enough wonderful things about the Birches. The rooms are spacious and well-lit, the staff is caring, kind and compassionate and the residents are very welcoming to new friends. My grandmom is in excellent hands - thank you!

The Birches is the very best place to live in the area. I have been a resident here since December and love everything about it! They accept my long term care insurance too. If you are looking for yourself or someone in your family, I would highly recommend it. I was not keen on the idea of moving at first, but I am so glad that I did now with the friends and family that I have made!

Had a generally good impression of the facility until the time came for my mother to be transferred from memory care to a skilled nursing facility. Had issues with the facility that resulted in the loss of my mother's hearing aids( $4000) .On the day of transfer, the facility failed to document that she was wearing them, relying on her seeming to hear OK as a sign that she had them, and failed to pack the charger for the devices. Such an important medical device should have been clearly identified and the charger should have been packed with belongings going with her on transport to the new facility. She arrived at the new facility without the hearing aids and the receiving facility called the Birches to notify them. The Birches denied that receiving facility called them about the missing hearing aids. The Birches investigation failed to locate the hearing aids and that the facility failed to visually document that she was wearing them at the time of transfer. The devices were lost. Many phone calls to the Birches were met with changing stories and a refusal to acknowledge financial responsibility for the loss. They hid behind the personal possession clause in the contract that said they were not responsible, but hearing aids are considered medical devices. My mother's medical condition precluded her from managing her hearing aids by herself and family cannot be monitoring this 24/7, especially while observing Covid restrictions. Sloppy oversight should not absolve the institution from financial responsibility for the loss. In my experience, the Birches has loss credibility due to their lack of timely response to multiple inquiries, changing explanations, lack of cooperation, and overall defensive attitude on the part of senior administration.

We have been very happy with the care my mom has received. She is getting therapy and it seems to be helping her get stronger. The sales person and director have been available when I have questions. I have seen the other comments but weve had a very positive experience at The Birches.

We transferred my father here on the day they went into lock down. Thank god we did!! The care he is receiving here is amazing! I pray for the safety of the staff. They have stepped up to the plate in so many ways! I highly recommend this facility!!
March 2020
The staff are so caring and dedicated to all the residents. We have had several FaceTime calls with our loved ones during this quarantine.
March 2020
Our family is so grateful for the wonderful caring ways of all the staff. The care and compassion is second to none. We are relatively new to the Birches, only a few short weeks before the quarantine, but what we have come to know is how important the residents are to those who work there. We have been called to face time and been given updates regularly on how our family members are doing.

We are an elder law firm and strongly recommend and endorse the excellent care provided at the Birches! Our clients and their families are consistently pleased with all aspects of the care and responsiveness to their loved ones. We give it a 5 star rating! Law Offices Of Michelle C. Berk, P.C.

Alyssa I want to thank you for everything you and all the staff did for my sister, mom and I! I will definitely recommend the Birches to anyone looking. The entertainment and activities are amazing! The food is very good. My mom especially love to go see the birds they have upstairs. I was able to bring in items for her room to make hers and visit anytime I wanted. My mother was in the memory care unit and I was able to take her out to the day break area anytime I was there. The entire staff was very pleasant and anytime I asked for something they made it happen. This unit is a secured unit and the walls are painted beautifully with murals. The residents rooms look like an apartment not a hospital room. If you are looking for a place for your loved one, please check out the Birches Karen Campion Shirley Lehman (Mom)

My mother stayed for 2 weeks for respite care after a serious injury. The staff was very nice, attentive, accommodating, and communicated well. Special shout out to the chef, Kikanza, who made delicious soups for my mother every day (she had her jaw wired shut). The facility was clean and nice, and they had daily activities for the residents. It is also great that they allow pets, which gave me the opportunity to visit with my dog, which raised my mother's spirits, along with much of the other community members as well!
February 2019
I absolutely love the staff here! They are compassionate, caring, and eager to learn. The kitchen staff go above their normal tasks to help residents feel comfortable. Maintenance can always be found wearing a smile and ready to help! The Nursing department is hard working and a dynamite team!

Our Mother has been a resident of The Birches at Arbour Square since March 13 of 2017. We are very pleased with the exceptionally professional, attentive and dedicated care she's been receiving here as well as the fun activities and many other amenities offered. Mom's Medical needs have been addressed very well. The Nurses, Aides and the entire Staff here have all been very informative and compassionate in their approach. My mother had a follow up Cardiologist appointment on November 8th. The Dr. was overwhelmingly happy with how much better Mom's health is improving here while at The Birches and how well the Nurses and Aids are taking care of our Mother. Mom's happier, much safer now with a wrist alert and a few other alert devices in her apartment, she's getting 3 Chef cooked healthy meals a day, she's receiving her medications on time daily, she gets her hair and nails done in the Beauty Salon, she has her laundry done weekly, she has a beautiful roomy studio apartment which House Keeping cleans weekly for her as well. Mom just smiles and tells her visitors she doesn't have to do anything now but enjoy her life there. The Birches Staff, Nurses and Aides have been wonderful to our Mother. This is all such a big relief for our family knowing that our Mother is happy and well taken care of in her "Heaven on Earth Home" here at The Birches. Thanks to all the hard working, compassionate and caring Professionals at The Birches! Thank you, The Albina Stepnowski Family

I am considering personal care/assisted living options for a 91 year old relative. The staff and residents at the Birches at Arbour Square made a positive impression on me from my first contact. My phone call was answered promptly and both the receptionist, Amy, and the marketing representative, Alyssa, were courteous and helpful, listening to my concerns. Not overly pushy like some other facilities. My initial pleasant interaction was reinforced when I visited. Residents were enjoying a piano concert by a fellow resident during my tour. The building is very clean and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and I was impressed with the variety of activities offered - as well as the quality of the food - and friendliness of the servers - at the lunch I had there. Although we are not ready to make a decision right now about my relative's care, I would say that - when we're ready - the Birches will be at the top of our list !
September 2018
My father-in-law moved to the Birches a few years after my mother-in-law passed away. Prior to moving there he was in and out of the hospital and rehab, frequently mismanaged his medications, had a poor diet, and felt isolated. The managers and staff did an amazing job of helping him adjust to this move and he quickly made new friends, gained weight from all the great food, and even went on local fishing outings with Wayne, the maintenance director. The staff treated him with great care and respect. We knew he was in the right place when we were out to lunch one day and he said he wanted to go home...to the Birches. Many thanks to everyone for all your care and compassion.

Excellent place to work!!! The staff are so compassionate and knowledgeable

My Mother transitioned from another facility where we was for over 3 years with 3 owners. Our family had adjusted to mediocre care and concern. Now that she is at Birches we are adjusting to good care, encouragement, appropriate respect and stimulation. It is hard to express all the good feelings and the positive change in my Mother.
