Our family’s experience with Chestnut Knoll was extremely disappointing. We moved our mother into the memory care community believing she would be in an environment equipped to safely manage her dementia and wandering behaviors. Within approximately the first three hours of her admission, she eloped from the community twice, and the police had to assist with returning her. Following those incidents, Chestnut Knoll determined that she required continuous one-on-one supervision in order to remain there. What is particularly concerning to us is that this additional care was put in place without our written consent or authorization for the additional expense. Prior to admission, a family member personally came to Chestnut Knoll to assess the community and discuss whether it was an appropriate placement for our mother. At no point during that process was our family told that she would require continuous one-on-one supervision, nor was a potential need for privately billed additional supervision discussed with us. We were admitting her specifically to a memory care setting because of her dementia and wandering behaviors. Our mother ultimately remained at Chestnut Knoll for only four nights before the placement was determined to be unsustainable. The financial experience afterward added considerably to our frustration. Despite the extremely brief stay, Chestnut Knoll retained the full $3,000 community fee. We were then charged an additional $3,355.25 for “Home Care per Hour,” which we understand was for the continuous one-on-one supervision Chestnut Knoll determined was necessary after the elopements. We do not recall ever signing an agreement or providing written authorization for more than $3,300 in additional supervision charges. We have requested documentation and an itemized explanation supporting that charge. We were also told that our refund would be processed within 30 days of discharge. At the 30-day mark, we still had not received it and had to continue following up for information. I understand that caring for someone with dementia and significant wandering behaviors can be extremely challenging, and not every facility is the right fit for every resident. However, when a family specifically selects memory care and then experiences two elopements within hours of admission, followed by an immediate requirement for costly continuous one-on-one supervision that was never previously discussed, I believe the family deserves far greater transparency. Given the safety concerns, how quickly the placement failed, the unexpected supervision charges, and the billing issues we have had to address afterward, I cannot recommend Chestnut Knoll based on our family’s experience.

I can’t say enough about the incredible team at Chestnut Knoll. As someone who works closely with families in crisis, having trusted communities that truly prioritize safety and compassion makes all the difference. Today, I received a call from a son who was completely overwhelmed as a care taker. Within a couple hours of reaching out to Julie, Chestnut Knoll completed an assessment, arranged transportation, and welcomed her for a same-day admission. Their only priority was making sure she was safe, and they trusted that the logistics could be sorted out later. They not only step up in urgent moments like this, but consistently show up for their residents every day. Their team is deeply engaged, attentive, and places a strong emphasis on therapy and helping residents maintain or regain function, not just providing care, but truly supporting quality of life. This is what real partnership and real care look like. Moments like this remind me that there are communities out there going above and beyond when families need it most

My fianc©’s grandmother is at Chestnut Knoll. The staff are friendly, helpful, and providing the care that she needs. The food is good / homemade and the building is clean. She is participating in the social activities for fun as well as the therapy sessions for strengthening. I would recommend if you are in need of care for a senior.

When I started the journey of finding a memory care facility for my mother in law...it was extremely hard until I called Chestnut Knoll. Hallie Kerns went above and beyond to help me, she was kind, professional and so helpful. My mother in law was a resident for 18 months. The staff were always so wonderful and patient, they all made one of the hardest times in our lives easier. Denise S. helped with every decision we had to make, and always took extra time to explain. My mother and I brought my grandmother to Chestnut Knoll after a fall when she was in an independent living situation. From the moment we inquired about availability, we knew she would be in great hands. Her move into her new home was smooth and welcoming. We, as her family felt welcomed and included as well. Everyone we came into contact with was so kind and professional. They always wanted to help in whatever way they could. Nothing was ever too much. My grandmother has since passed away peacefully, but my mom and I would send her to Chestnut Knoll again; without a doubt. It is an amazing place with an incredible group of people!

My mother moved to Chestnut Knoll last September and was in the Assisted Living area before she had to move to the Memory Care side. It was quite an adjustment for her however the care is exceptional and everyone feels like a family. She is encouraged to participate in activities however usually declines. We recommend Chestnut Knoll to everyone!

My father was an occupant for four to five months, and overall we were very happy with the care that he received. Approval for entry was quick, and he settled in quickly as well. As recommended, he changed from his regular medical provider next door to the visiting service at Chestnut Knoll, and they appeared to be adequate, though information on his condition was rarely directly relayed to the family from them. Communication from the resident staff was good in contrast. My father unfortunately (on his own accord) did not participate in many of the plentiful activities offered, such as day trips, eating out, exercise classes, etc. Overall, during a very difficult time and under difficult circumstances with a client who personally did not want to be there, our family is very happy with the services provided.

My mother was in memory care at Chestnut Knoll. From my first phone call and meeting to the days after my mother passed and we left CK, we had nothing but exceptional care. Everyone is truly caring, professional and engaged. Denise is by far the best director for memory care. We had prior experiences of care for my mom and none were of the level Chestnut Knoll provided. They consider you and your loved one as family and they become family to you. We couldn’t have asked for a better place or people to care for my mom in her final year.

A Positive Approach! I recently moved a loved one to Chestnut Knoll's Memory Care Unit and I am so happy with this decision. The staff at Chestnut Knoll are so kind and caring towards him -- they see him as a person ... not his disease or the behaviors it has created. The staff at all levels are terrific at communicating with me and keeping me up to date. It is hard watching someone I love decline and change - but I have peace of mind knowing that he is treated with respect and compassion.

Disrespectful Staff My friend was put in here due to her memory. Every time I visit her I find her alone and scared as she cannot find her room. When I went and located the staff and told them about her being scared I was told by the staff " you do know what floor this is dont you?" To me they were telling me it doesnt matter she is scared as she has memory problems. The staff showed my friend no respect or me. I would never recomend this place. And I intend to spread the word.
