The facility looks nice with a pub on site and many activities. These amenities were going to be lost on my parent. To me, it felt like window dressing and I wanted to get past that. I looked up reports online and got a good idea of what was what. The deal breaker for me was that this provider does not accept Medicaid, so when a resident exhausts their resources, they have to leave. Since we didn't have a crystal ball to see when funds would run out, we selected a provider that will accept a transition to Medicaid when the resident is out of funds.

We are settled in at Bonaventure of Salem on Boone Road and we ran into a couple of hiccups getting into our new apartment but the management has been most accommodating and helpful. Everyone has been very friendly to us. We made the decision to move from a large home to independent apartment living while we are still pretty active. We wanted to be in a place that offers assisted living and memory care if at any time in the future we need it. We are very happy with the decision that we made ourselves instead of someone else making it for us later.

My Dad was at Bonaventure for 2 1/2 years and had nothing but neglect. From filthy living conditions such as waste baskets overflowing and fruit fly's to filthy soil laundry that was neglected laying in piles in his closet. Upon inspection, we found many dirty drinking glasses some with mold on them and stuck to the bathroom counter. My Dad was neglected and not cared for per the Service plan in which we complained 4 times to no avail. We moved him to a much better facility. DO NOT take your loved ones here to Bonaventure, they don't care (except for more of your money)

Never send you loved ones here, after over 2 years of fighting neglect issues and the housekeeping issues, we are done. All the staff wants to do is take advantage of the automatic debit authorization to recoop as much money and possible while letting your Dad sit in a puddle of urine. I have been associated with Bonaventure of Salem off and on for the last 7 years. It is a place for fun and a good time. I love the spirit of the staff and how much they care about what they do. I enjoy the connections that get built between staff and residents alike. It warms my heart to make friends here with the families and other residents and makes every day a new adventure. Its a please getting to be involved with a company like this one. I also know that they go above and beyond for all of the charities and organizations they work with and working to make real dreams come true. They worked with Honor Flights of Portland to bring a WW2 Veteran to see Washington DC at 92 years young

I would highly recommend Bonaventure of Salem for any senior looking for a community that fosters connection, growth, and independence. Bonaventure has many activities for seniors to brighten their horizons and delight in retirement. My loved one especially enjoyed going on overnight trips though the Columbia Gorge, playing bingo, eating popcorn in the on-site movie theater, playing pool table, scoring bingo, learning new board games, family BBQ events, patio parties, happy hour socials in the pub, and the roasted pig and hula dancers at the annual luau. I appreciated knowing my loved one was in good hands, and that the caregivers took pride in allowing her to be as independent as possible, but still providing help when needed to assist with activities.

I was hired to film every Bonaventure location and to interview staff and residents, so I feel I got a unique insight into Bonaventure. The Salem office, where they are headquartered, is beautiful. It has a nice fountain area, tons of parking, is across the street from a physical rehabilitation clinic, and the main building is great. The employees have a great attitude and are well-liked by the residents, which I think is very important. The staff love working there, and the residents love living there!

I recently toured this community with my brother, we showed up unexpectedly and were greeted by the Director, Cloe. She was friendly and well knowledgeable on her community and staff were also engaged as we toured which wasnt present at the other two places we looked at earlier in the day. Its a beautiful set up and we especially liked the dining area, large and bright. We are just starting to give our 86 year old Mother options and they sure made the list. Unfortunately our Mother is not ready to move her home of 64 years and does not get the bigger picture but when she is ready we will definitely be revisiting them. I find myself reading reviews prior to purchasing anything these days, so I didnt see this as any different and wanted to point out that if you are looking into options for a parent to go check out Bonaventure.

My wife has worked for Bonaventure since before we were ever married. Sometimes it feels like she is more with family at work than she ever is at home. She knows every residents names, all their families and their life stories. She makes it a mission to give every staff member a leg up if they need one and help them learn new things. We have missed many a dinner due to her availability for her residents and her staff, she will drop anything for them. She loves what she does and has always made it clear that her job is about so much more than just answering the phones and signing paperwork. She lives for what she does. Other than the kids and me, work is her number one priority. She has most enjoyed her time at Bonaventure of Salem through out the years and has had most of her professional success out of that building. We love her and the company that helps make our life possible. We would not have the opportunities we do without it. The leadership she has learned from at the home office over the years has made all of this possible and we consider so many of them our second family

I am a resident at Bonaventure of Salem and was recently hospitalized. While I was there, Chloe and her staff sent me a gorgeous flower arrangement. The hospital receptionist brought me the flowers and many nurses stopped in to give them a smell, and as they did that, I read them the nice card that they wrote along with the flowers. I told them all that I live at Bonaventure and that I love it here. They also said they have heard good things. I am now back at home and still have the flowers and they bring me great pleasure. Thank you so much for thinking of me in such a beautiful way.

Only 4 stars due to not accepting Medicaid- but what a striking community. My brother and I recently visited this community and thought that we had struck gold, my father would have loved the amenities and the movie theatre!!! We have already looked at several other communities but none as of yet gave us that same feeling like Bonaventure. Its a shame that these State ran programs limit our beloved Seniors to the less attractive places and just expect them to live out their lives. While we were visiting two residents came up to us and shared what a great place it was and how much they enjoyed there home, one even said it was like a big family. If you are able to pay privately then please consider this community, you wont be sorry.

Hello:My in-laws have lived here for perhaps 5 or 6 years. The first impression is that its very beautiful. I call it the cruise ship.... a very large facility. The art and furnishings are very tastefully done.The living spaces themselves are quite generous and well thought-out. But sadly, the food is consistently pretty poor. Portions are small (although you can ask for a larger one) and the food is pretty tasteless. The selections generally are middle-american cooking. Certainly not made extremely healthy or in terms of high concentrations of nutrients (more off the truck type cooking). There is a salad bar every night - so thats something, but mostly head lettuce and canned ingredients. Considering how expensive the monthly fees are, they could put some money into their kitchen offerings.But as I tell my father-in-law, if you ate at the same restaurant night after night, youd get pretty sick of it too.The staff does make an effort to have occasional events, like picnics outside under a tent or special occasion dinners. It just would be nice if the cooks had more creativity, flavor and taste. Service staff is routinely slow as well, but very cheerful and kind. They seem to enjoy the residents and care.The management staff changes pretty frequently too. The manager is frequently out of the building, or training someone. Since the corporate offices are next door, they move people around a lot. I think it makes it difficult for both the residents and the staff to know one another.Overall, Id recommend this place if you have a car and can get out once or twice a week for a meal elsewhere!
