The residents and staff are incredibly helpful and we appreciate the extra mile JJ, the director, has gone to make every resident feel supported. The food is excellent and the artwork (frequently made by residents) on display is fabulous. I recommend NW Place to anyone who is looking for a vibrant community of creative minds!

After a carefully studying the retirement communities in Portland and surrounding areas we chose Northwest Place. It is a small, intimate, friendly community where everyone knows each other. The location is superb for walking, shopping, eating and enjoying local parks. And Northwest Place offers a variety of activities, serves delicious food, and it truly interested in the happiness of its residents.

Just today when I was visiting, there was a bus departing from North West Place headed for Multnomah Falls for the day, full of residents. The property is BEAUTIFUL, so well maintained and the location is about perfect. And a big shout out to JJ Koll, the Executive Director. Keep up the great work JJ!!

An impromptu visit to Northwest Place resulted in an opportunity to meet executive director JJ Koll. He provided a personalized tour of this impressive facility. There is a sense of warmth and comfort throughout the home. The positive experience is expressed in reviews are evident. Additionally, the emphasis on providing for the needs of senior residence, was demonstrated by the interest that JJ Koll takes in surveying prospective residents to discover their lifestyle, needs and problems. He provided complete details of all the services provided at Northwest Place. He also included references for companies that can help seniors with challenges, such as downsizing their residence in preparation for moving to a more appropriate living space. From the welcome at the front door, to the spacious outdoor relaxation area, this tour was such an enriching experience; an Invaluable source of advice and information for those who are seeking an appropriate next step in their journey to a more relaxed lifestyle.

We were very impressed with this facility. The staff were all very gracious and friendly. The property is in a lovely residential neighborhood with big trees, but very close to restaurants and shops. It is very nicely decorated and maintained. The current residents seem happy and very friendly.

I cannot recommend NW Place highly enough: The Staff are wonderful, welcoming and most accommodating. My partner, son and I felt so at home, we attended lecture events, dined regularly in the restaurant for a very reasonable price, and our constant coming and going over our 12 day visit was not only tolerated but welcomed. We live in Australia, so it is comforting to know that my parents are in a stimulating, warm and welcoming environment, and have happily joined the North West place community.

My parents in law have fairly recently moved into North West Place and we (my partner and son) came from Australia to see how they've settled in. We were so happy to experience the wonderful warm environment they have landed in after the difficulty of packing up and leaving their long time home. Across the board the staff are amazing, the activities and opportunities for socialising are plentiful and the food is terrific. They have been welcomed into the community with open arms, as we were. We cannot recommend North West Place highly enough.

I would highly recommend NorthWest Place! My sister lived there a number of years so I was able to experience it first hand. The staff is well organized, pleasant and personable yet professional as well. The food is delicious and varied and accommodates all dietary concerns. There are a lot of activities and holiday events provided. Transportation needs are covered as well. It has a great location in a lovely neighborhood. The community or residents are welcoming, supportive, and interesting. I have visited other senior living residences in Portland and this is the best of all!

Last week I had the chance to perform magic at Northwest Place. I'm a little different...I'm not a resident of a retirement community but regularly perform magic in retirement communities. I can tell when I walk into a high-quality community. Northwest Place is one of those. When I walk in from the outside, it's obvious it's well maintained, landscaped and secure. The moment I entered I was cheerfully greeted. When I was given a little tour, everything was high-quality, especially the dining room. The dining room looks like a five-star restaurant. When I spoke with the residents, they all spoke proudly of "their" chef. Good food matters. I could see myself living there someday!

My mother recently moved out of NW Place for health reasons after living there for 14 years. It is a great place. My mom was surrounded by kind, supportive staff and a community of friendly, interesting and caring residents. Chef Bob made my Texan mom fried green tomatoes. Kristi helped with tech problems (and much more). Mike helped with appliance issues (and much more). JJ and the management staff were always warm and ready to help. The servers know every resident’s preferences and go above and beyond in every way. The social engagement staff fostered a fun and engaged community with lots of outings and events. And the residents When my mother was hospitalized, a flood of get well cards arrived. Over the years, my mom participated in resident produced plays and attended resident lectures and readings. My mom moved here from Texas knowing nobody but me and my family. NW Place opened its arms to her and she was very happy there.

My husband and I have been at Northwest Place for 1.5 years. Living here is like living on cruise ship (without the ocean): lovely interior design and pleasant outdoor spaces, excellent meals, friendly and responsive staff, many activities--exercise classes, lectures, musical performances, movies, happy hours, outings to interesting places and events, volunteer opportunities, and more. The walkable urban neighborhood is filled with trees, flowers, beautiful old mansions, a couple of parks, lots of shops, restaurants, medical offices and a hospital. Transportation is provided for personal appointments, and a streetcar and bus stop is a block away. The small size of the building supports a congenial community. This is not an assistant-living facility. Active elders will find it ideal. Those in poorer health who need assistance have to arrange and pay for private caregivers.

My Mom has lived at NWPlace for three years. What a wonderful place to call home. Small and personal and friendly. In a wonderful location. There are always interesting activities going on. Many arranged by the lovely residents themselves. Plusthe food is GOOD!!!!! My siblings and I toured a lot of potential places for Mom. None felt right. Too big. Too nursing home. Too suburban. Too snobby. It was like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Looking for something that was JUST RIGHT. Upon leaving the tour of NWPlace, my sister said, Let’s move her in tomorrow! And we did! So grateful for everyone at NWPlace for the care they give everyone, everyday.

Northwest Place is one of my favorite communities. I've worked with so many families in the senior industry for over 2 decades and this community remains one of my very favorites, hands down. The community location is perfect for the active senior who loves a great walkable urban setting with some of the tastiest restaurant options close by. It's also an ideal community for the social senior who enjoys making connections with others. Christine has done a phenomenal job as Zest Director and fills the calendar with some of the most enriching experiences for their residents. She partners so well with Candy- who drives the bus and helps coordinate the activities calendar. Candy- is one of the kindest people I've met. Additionally- collaboration with Northwest Place's Executive Director Shannon, has been incredibly inspiring as she is so committed to offering a quality experience to every single person that walks through the front doors. The knowledge and leadership she offers her team and other industry partners is not only completely authentic- it's also offered with so much positive intention, which makes her one of the best industry leaders. Lasty--- I cannot forget to show some love to Christy at the front desk. An absolute gem of a human- with an unwavering servants heart and the kindest warm welcome I have ever gotten in a community setting. I feel confident that Northwest Place may be a really great choice to consider when a senior is relocating or downsizing. It doesn't get much better- especially right in the heart of Portland.

My Mother has lived at Northwest Place for ten years, and it would be hard for me to say enough about how wonderful a place it is. Everything, from the beautiful building, and surrounding neighborhood, to all the amenities, make it the perfect place for her. Breakfast is always good. Dinners are catered to taste. We love boarding the van to go to local venues. The neighborhood is so walkable. With many restaurants within a few blocks.

I am helping some friends locate a retirement community and we are wait listed at NWPlace. I have done a great deal of research on retirement communities in the Portland area. I would like to say what a gem NW place is, from the fresh flowers in the entry way, to the well stocked library, to the beautiful units, and perhaps best if all, a chef whose menu far exceeds anything I've seen elsewhere regarding dietary needs and vegetarian options. The location in the Nob Hill neighborhood with its beautiful homes and cafes, as well as the Good Samaritan hospital nearby, makes this community part of a charming yet lively neighborhood. Importantly, the Executive Director was a delight to work with, and has a reputation in the retirement community in Oregon as being superb at what she does. The staff is also attentive and knowledgeable, with very little turnover, which speaks volumes. The CARF awards earned by SRG, it's parent corporation, are hard to obtain and it's clear the team is devoted to its residents. Thank you for providing a unique, elegant yet welcoming future home to loved ones.

There are so many special things about this place that I don’t know where to start. The place has a feeling of home and the staff are part of the family. All the residents are so good to each other making friends is super easy. I just love all the outings we go on and I am from Portland. I have found many new places I haven’t been before. A new adventure each time I go with the group. Of course the food is excellent and Bob takes such good care of us. I enjoy watching the garden grow on the terrace and to know Bob has a watchful eye on it. I would not want to call anywhere else home. This is my home and I enjoy every minute of it.

I started to think about relocating to Portland from Austin, Texas, to be closer to family members a couple of years after my wife passed away. Approaching my eightieth birthday, I decided that it would be wise for me to move to a retirement home where I wouldn’t have to worry about things like home maintenance and cooking for one. I enjoy going to the theater and the symphony, and I like an urban environment, so I wanted to live close to downtown with easy access to public transportation. And most importantly, having lived by myself for several years, I wanted to live in a smaller community where I could get to know all my fellow residents. I made several trips to Portland to look at retirement homes but couldn’t find anything I liked. The facilities were either too remote, didn’t have good access to public transportation, or were too big. Despairing of finding a place I liked, I had almost given up on moving to Portland when, by chance, someone suggested I take a look at NorthWest Place. Located in a residential neighborhood surrounded by a mix of stately Victorian homes and small apartment buildings, NorthWest Place was just what I wanted. A short walk takes you to the bus and trolley stop, both of which will get you downtown within a few minutes, while the commercial corridor between NW 21st Avenue and NW 23rd Avenue offers a wide variety of shopping and dining options. NorthWest Place is located in a four-story building containing forty-six residential apartments and a restaurant offering seated service with a varied menu that changes daily. Other facilities include an activity room, a library, a game room, and a well-appointed living area for public gatherings. Off-street covered parking is available, and weekly maid service is included. A rooftop garden provides a delightful place to take in a bit of sun and fresh air or sit in the shade and read a good book. While lacking some of the facilities offered by big retirement homes, NorthWest Place more than makes up for this with a strong sense of community. In the two years I have lived here, I have gotten to know almost all the other residents and have made many new friends. I have enjoyed participating in planned activities offered by NorthWest Place and more spontaneous events like get-togethers with my fellow residents for a glass of wine before dinner. I’m pleased with my choice of NorthWest Place as a retirement home and look forward to spending many more enjoyable years living here. I recommend it highly to anyone looking for an active lifestyle in a vibrant residential community.

The staff here are friendly and receptive, but sometimes the decisions are made by SRG corporate offices in California. Our dining room has made tremendous improvements in food quality and variety. My partner and I rarely are disappointed by the selection and quality of the food. We enjoy inviting our friends and family to join us for dinner. The Executive Board of the residents association is working hard to make Northwest Place a real home for the residents. The local management is very receptive to ideas and works very hard to accommodate new ideas and changes. The activities have improved dramatically since the major scare of Covid is past. All the residents got Covid shots and every precaution continues to be taken to see we keep each other safe. There is an easy going friendliness about Northwest Place and its location is terrific! Many of the things I complained about during the height of the Covid pandemic have been resolved. I'm pretty sure lessons have been learned and procedures will continue to improve.

Moved here with my partner in November of 2017. We share a large 1 bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor with windows facing north. This is an Independent Living Senior Retirement Community of 46 units with approximately 52 residents. The building is well cared for & maintained to a high standard. Restaurant provides a very good service & high quality with a wide range of meal choices. Happy Hour every Friday afternoon! Staff & management are well versed in dealing with a wide range of different issues from the residents (when range from 63 to 101 years old with the same range of health issues) in a professional & caring manner. This is an independent living facility but aides are allowed to provide assistance to the residents when needed. 4th Floor Terrace is a great place to sit & relax & enjoy a glass of wine & the good weather with friends and/or family. I highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants walk ability, nice amenities, secure parking, different floor plans & a staff that really cares! PS. We moved out in March of 2019. Upper management staff changes and the constant turnover of dinning room staff along with issues with the food, made our continued stay untenable. Also the annual increase in rent with no improvement in services was an issue.
