We are very disappointed in the care at Valley West. Our family member is not elderly or bed ridden, mid 50’s, longtime resident due to strokes at 41. The first 2 years there was therapy and stroke rehab. Post COVID, this place is still blaming the pandemic and getting worse by the week. People are suffering due to poor staffing, neglect. Unacceptable call response times of 1-2+ hours have caused trauma and death! Changes are drastically needed to reverse the conditions and disease that has only worsened under their care. It is NOT A rehab center. The lack of therapy, activities and nourishing food has only increased diabetes, heart disease, obesity and dementia among the VW community. Fresh fruit and vegetables are non existent. We appreciate the Aids that care! Kindness matters. I suggest the kitchen sign up for a local CSA and receive fresh produce weekly. Return the stove, microwave and coffee pot to the activity center for the able residents to warm up their meals, have some autonomy. Fire the activities director for abuse. No resident should feel ignored at this stage of life, when elders should be revered and respected. They deserve Good Coffee, appetizing meals and exciting activities to look forward to and invite their friends and family to join. Like the good old days at VWHCC.

My sister was a patient in Valley West from March 21 to April 8th for rehab with a broken back. Everyone on staff from the office personnel to the maintenance team treated her with consideration and care. The physical therapy and occupational therapy worked to get her able to return home. The meals were well prepared and appetizing. Thank you Valley West

I can’t say enough for the staff here. I was very worried about sending my mom because of all the bad stories you hear. They were very kind and everyone was wonderful to work with. Upon her leaving they are helping me with so many resources that I will be needing for my mom. Excellent experience.

Valley West has impressed me time and time again. The patients I've spoken with have told me the care they provide is exceptional, and I have witnessed it firsthand. I was especially impressed recently with Deven Henderson, the LPN. I had requested her assistance, and she was able to provide the requested care quickly. She always has a great attitude and is incredibly experienced. I cannot say enough good things about Devon Henderson and the entire care staff at Valley West. I highly recommend them if you're looking for care for a loved one.

I had a care appointment for my 95 yr old mother at Valley West today and was very impressed and pleased with the staff’s care for my mom. Julie, Cassidy and Devon were all professional and what was most important, their compassion and loving care they show her. They are the best!
October 2025
I was here for short-term rehab. The nursing staff and aides were professional, personable and welcomed helping me when needed. Family was included in developing my care plan. Physical therapy responded adequatically to my needs. I freely walked around the care center as my independent walking with the walker increased. More frequent attention from housekeeping to the patients rooms; garbage emptied, etc, needed. Food service has menu items for that day which you may choose from and submit to the kitchen. Favorable good food. Snacks are available from the desk staff upon request. I had a positive experience for the short time there and would return.

My brother, Jerry, and his wife, Chris, have been residents here for the past ten months. We try to visit them often and have always been impressed with how well they are cared for. Additionally, as their legal power of attorney, I've worked with great people in the business office and with social services personnel.

Not being able to be independent and care if yourself any more is do upsetting. The entire staff at Valley West has been kind, understanding and patient with my Mom. When she is not her normal self they treat her with so much care and respect. The facility is clean and when Mom eats, she loves the food. We were very lucky she was able to be placed here.
August 2025
My aunt was recently in this facility after surgery and we’re so incredibly kind to her. She was greeted warmly when she arrived, given wonderful care, and kept as comfortable as possible. She said everyone seemed happy to be there and kept the environment clean and inviting. My aunt says if she ever needs inpatient therapy again, this is where she will be going!
July 2025
From the moment I walked into Valley West Health Care Center, I was absolutely blown away. The staff here are not just professional they are ANGELS in scrubs!! Every single nurse, therapist, and caretaker radiates warmth, compassion, and genuine love for their work. I’ve never seen a more dedicated and uplifting team. The rooms? Spotless, cozy, and genuinely feels like home. My loved one settled in instantly. The physical therapy team works literal miracles within weeks, we saw progress we hadn’t seen in months elsewhere. The management is communicative, organized, and truly listens to families and residents. What really touched me was how staff treated each resident like family. They remembered names, preferences, routines, even birthdays! The attention to detail is next level. Whether it’s offering an extra blanket at night or encouraging a smile in physical therapy, they go above and beyond. I would recommend Valley West to absolutely anyone looking for top-tier care in Oregon. It’s not just a facility it’s a community full of heart! Thank you to every single team member who made this journey not only easier but beautiful. You’ve earned this 5-star review and more!’™

My mother passed recently in the care of valley west. We visited her at least once or twice daily and I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful everyone was. From the nurses to the therapists and even the front host. I know I can't mention everyone that helped with my mother but here's a few. Emily, Michelle, Cassidy, Marrissa, Riley, devin, Bill, Brittany, jeff, Billy and of course Brook which talked with us a few times. I know valley west west has to be super proud of all of there employees. Thank you so very much for the care that my mother got. Love you guys

January 2025
Every time I go to visit my friend the staff is amazing. They are kind and friendly. I see them always explaining to her what they're going to be doing for her. The facility is clean, it smells fresh, and the other patients I have met are wonderful. I love taking my baby granddaughter there and just going to say hello to other people. I love seeing my elders smile. If you have to be in a nursing home, this seems to be a good one to be in.
January 2025
I'm very disappointed with this care facility's kitchen. I have heard nothing but discouraging things from my grandmother who is in rehab here. There have been other areas that need improvement but my current issue of concern is the kitchen. Unfortunately, I live almost 5hrs away and can't always go down to help her. They constantly are messing up and sending her food that contains ingredients that she is dealthy allergic too. Some of the meals look like something they wouldn't even feed inmates but somehow are okay to provide to our seniors? She is now been diagnosed as a diabetic, she is never given or offered snacks to off set her diabetes. She has lost 20lbs while she's been there. This morning she sent me a photo of her breakfast.......first off as a diabetic this is not an appropriate meal and second this is not appropriate for a human..1 piece of bacon and 1 tiny muffin? I'm just more and more frustrated by this. It is dishearting to hear how hungry she is and how hard it is for her to get a decent meal.

I couldn't have asked for a better place for my husband to recover. Have constant care and respect given to these clients. I walked in here and I've been in several care facilities. But the cleanliness in this place is amazing. The staff are fabulous from the bottom to the top. I thank God for this place. Because it might not have had my husband. Call light response is sometimes nonexistent, 2-3 hours. When having to do Physical and Occupational Therapy with a need for high dose of pain medications, that was a real problem. My performance in therapy was really good when the pain was managed, but that rarely happened. The staff was good at helping you keep track of your possessions. Communication among employees is good. All employees, no matter their position were willing to do any assistance that a patient needed. That really impressed me. The staff are all pleasant, very hard workers, and compassionate. The beds were comfortable and bed linens were soft, cosy, and appeared to be of good quality. The food was good, but I didn't see a menu for 2 days and no one inquired about any special diet I was on, required or not. Did not always get exactly what I ordered, but the kitchen would add in the nutritional foods I had left out on choosing. Beverages seem to be limited. And notable is the fact that my paperwork stated I have a diagnosis of diabetes and kitchen did not meet with me to discuss the diabetes choices in the menu. Btw, I am not diabetic. I was looking forward to joining others in dining room for meals and activities throughout. I was unable to due to the lack of pain management. The support of the therapists was great and wish I could take them with me on my journey through home health. The managers were all down to earth and. easy to talk to. There are a lot of patients there who need a high level of care and are not afraid to ask for it. My empathy and compassion waned while losing sleep over the loud crying and yelling. Had only one good night of sleep between lack of pain relief, and listening to a few needy patients who no one was responding to for 1, 2, maybe 3 hours.

my partner of 3 years had a hemorrhagic stroke on top of the brainstem early in May. it was severe as far as incapacitating all of his involuntary & voluntary movements. in Riverbend for 4 weeks; then to Portland Vibra (acute brain injury's & tracheotomy specialty recovery house); he was there almost 6 weeks (maximum amt of time allowed there). while he was there, he started to breath totally independent of ventilator. he also began to open his eyes and look around somewhat and keep them open for several hours. Vibra & myself, & his sister & brother n law looked really hard in Eugene area to find level of care required which means a skilled nursing facility. we had no luck even in Salem area while he had to have trache care. so when he came off the ventilator & trache was removed, Valley West agreed to take him because he has funding till 2026 through Medicaid. that was another gray area we ran into trying to place him in a skilled nursing facility-it seems not a lot of them do the specialized trache care, tube feedings, all hygiene for bed ridden individuals for long term care., not to mention physical therapy to relearn how to's & to keep skin in tact. Medicaid pays minimum where the private sector pays almost double that. so I was very grateful for Valley West to agree to take him because it's close to where we live, & he had 0 medical coverage when this happened about 10 wks ago. so this review is on one-time visit- -the very first one that I stopped in to see him when he arrived from Vibra. I was greeted graciously and immediately helped to find him, and I felt really good about the staff that helped me. I stayed for a couple of hours and consequently met the floor staff, the infection nurse, one of the admin ladies, and of course the receptionist at the door. on the way out I met another floor staff-I'm just assuming they are certified as a nurse or close to it. she took time to converse a bit even though it was obvious she was done w/her shift & headed to her car. everyone was exceptionally kind and informative. The atmosphere was pleasant, the buildings are pleasant, his room is a little bit cramped but it stands to reason bc of the current need in general. I was quite impressed in a good way, which at this point in the game, feels monumental. i hope that he continues to improve, and I have faith that if he can, Valley West will provide the necessary care and steps to bring him out of his current 'lockdown' condition. nobody has answers that are solid because there are so many variables with this kind of a stroke. at this point in time, I would rate them up there with both hospitals w/level of care. I sincerely want to believe that, and after the initial attitude I received there, I am going to go with faith hope and love. I'm hoping that I'm right about Valley West, I'm holding faith in my pocket that he will get better with a lot more time, and I just can't stop love. That's about it in a nutshell; I'm going back today and we will see from here forward. he was slightly agitated and tired yesterday; I could see that and feel it. he knew me, he held my hand for a long time. which are definitely steps in right direction...i showed him pictures of his favorite person which is a dog! Staff gave us all time & patience for window I could b there. very courteous & appeared to b aware & in tune w/each other; always a good sign! it takes team to get best results... i have no reason to believe that Valley West would do anything except the best for his recovery after meeting some of people who r directly involved in his long term care as they seem to b familiar w/brain stem stroke induced injuries. it is a huge relief & a ginormous step that brings a very much needed spark to realign myself & his family members to endure months+more of all that is necessary to come back from a mean & vicious stroke. relief to know he is in good hands w/Valley West skilled nursing facility. sincerely, respectfully, Pamela. 8/24

The Care Workers at this facility really made my husband feel at home after being transferred from a much less efficient hospital. I felt that all of the staff did their very best to accommodate Michael and respond according with his every day needs. I was impressed to see so many types of health workers and physical and occupational therapist on his rehab wing at the Center. I also experienced first hand on how well they jumped throught hoops with medical insurance requirements with a smile on their faces. Thank you Valley West....... Daphne & Michael

My husband was at Valley West for about a month while he finished his antibiotics through a pic line. They treated he very well. Made sure to get his PT in to get him on the road to home. He had no complaints except that the gravy that put on a lot of their food was way to salty for him. Other than that all went well. The staff was great.

Edit: after my initial review, VW admin team reached out right away and corrected everything in the room that needed attention. They have been very thoughtful in reaching out to me, email regularly to keep me updated about my parent's care and have been surprisingly eager to listen and be hands on. BRAVO! I'm so much happier after my review that I felt it prudent to edit it. I have a parent at Valley West currently and I am horrified at the lack of attention he is getting. Its deplorable! The room is severely lacking. 1. The soap dispenser at the sink doesn't work. 2. The nurse call button doesn't work. These things are absolutely confirmed and not just my opinion. 3. It's severely understaffed. Even the room TV doesn't work. There's zero attention to detail. Please do not allow your parent or any person you love or care for to step foot into the place. Its dehumanizing!! When I ask for help in the room, there's no sense of urgency or care, whatsoever. Even trying to catch staff attention is hard.

I highly recomend this facility for your loved ones. They took great care of my stepdad while he was there, and they were awesome with us too. ALL the therapists, nurses, audes and hospice at the end were the best, the always were smiling abd helpful when needed. I do think they need more staff, the are overworked in my opinion but they don't show it. Thank you all for all you did for John and us.
