Reviews Dallas Retirement Village
October 2024
We have been in DRV for nearly 2 months. We are becoming more and more certain we have made the Correct Decision. The Staff has really been helpful and friendly. There has been required work and repair to be made on the project as it is completed. This has been done with great concern for the Residents. Adding the 2nd Phase of Independent Living Apts, exercise areas, huge pool, Wellness areas, etc is no small task. The Units are lovely with upgraded materials and supplies. Food is always a concern as to "what" to expect considering how many they are serving. We have been pleasantly surprised: good and ample. Great desserts. But just like my cooking: sometimes miss the mark. Another concern was available activities, speakers, classes, etc. We've been so busy haven't even touched on a fraction of what's possible to keep us "young" and involved. Beautiful, well maintained, fantastic Staff, plus fellow residents have made this transition in lifestyle relatively stress-free, Come join us! Take a Tour! Dallas City Park is a close walk away. After a month of living in our apartment at DRV, we are both surprised and pleased at how easy it has been to feel that this is now "home." And it encompasses all the best parts of feeling "at home" in our new apartment: no lawn and garden to maintain. No house to clean, no bills for water, power and lights. No more repairs and maintenance. No property taxes. Best of all is the peace of mind, for us and our children, just knowing that we are surrounded by caring and concerned staff and community. Now we enjoy deciding what fitness or wellness classes to attend, what activities to enjoy in our leisure moments, or what social event we want to go to. Evening dining is full of options, contemplating what meal to choose from the vast variety, or even where to enjoy a delightful meal…the Red House Bistro or the Timber Grill. Even attending the monthly town hall meeting is a highlight, with or without the wonderful "snacks." ("Feed them, and they will come.") We particularly enjoy each department head's updates and their latest news, always performed with a bit of hilarity and fun. But the best part is the people, both the staff and the residents. We've experienced so much already. It's a joy to be greeted by name by Mary at the front desk or Dylan in the dining room. You can't pass anyone in the hall without a greeting--and maybe a story. It's a joy to walk into the building and be greeted by Del and David, the puzzle masters supreme, and to be invited to join them. We have found that everyone has a story to share as they welcome us. After a month, DRV is "home," wrapped up in all the best things about home.

Thank you Caitlin for your time and warm welcome. You answered our questions and we appreciated seeing some of the different options for living accommodations at DRV. The DRV campus always feels very welcoming.

We can see why the wait list is so long – everyone here is wonderful and the move-in process is easy. The book put in the room with paperwork is a fantastic idea – it helped a lot! Moving a parent is a major change, everyone at Dallas Retirement Village made this a smooth process for my mom and that is greatly appreciated. Major kudos to the chef and kitchen staff too, mom loves the food options.

Had a wonderful luncheon. Staff was courteous. Grounds were well kept. Resident representatives were most gracious in giving us a tour of most of the village. Felt quite welcoming.

The welcome has been warm and supportive. Staff, residents and the entire environment is tasteful, helpful, eager to assist. Quality abounds! DRV is a wonderful place to call home!

You never know how much you're going to appreciate a place until you need it and that's certainly the case here. My mother was living in the independent living section of DVR for several years; between the residents she made friends with and the staff who always greeted her with a smile and increasingly supported her, it was a terrific experience. It was when she needed to move into assisted living, however, that I came to fully appreciate both DVR and the people who work here. Aging is really hard and navigating care options is even harder but supporting my mother through it has been infinitely easier thanks to a dedicated, flexible staff.
November 2023
We were extremely happy with our move-in experience at DRV. Once we let DRV know of our family's intention's of our father moving from independent living to assisted living, everyone we worked with was happy to answer questions and helped make the transition easy. Once our father moved, the staff was welcoming and continually checking on him.

Moved here six years ago, sight unseen, and couldn't be happier. Enjoy the beautiful campus, variety of activities, and attentive staff who go out of their way to make us feel special.

We moved into Dallas Retirement Village on September 13, 2021. We have enjoyed many of the amenities that are offered. There are too many to list. (Afraid I might miss some.) The food is extremely good, the dining room is awesome. All the staff in every area is exceptionally kind and very attentive. Everyone that we have come in contact with has been cheerful, polite and eager to help. I can not say enough about how wonderful Dallas Retirement Village is.
September 2023
In particular , the 'wait and facility operations personnel ' are outstanding.
August 2023
Attention to my inquiries before moving to Independent Living was excellent. Moving from maintenance of a private home to DRV has been a relief--maintenance requests are carefully fulfilled. All the departments, from Devotional, Finance, to Wellness and Food matters are very attentive to our concerns. Love it here!
August 2023
Mom recently had a little health scare where 2 of your amazing staff quickly helped her then reported their concerns to the front desk, who called me immediately. I can't tell you how reassuring it is to know that Mom is so loved and watched after by your amazing staff. Thank you on behalf of the whole family!

There are many retirement places to choose from. However my husband and I are grateful that we found the Dallas Retirement Village (DRV). We moved in last October. The setting is beautiful for our outdoor walks on paved paths and roads with green lawns, a variety of trees and shrubs in abundance. Indoors during inclement weather provides good walking space as well. The food is delicious with many choices for breakfast, lunch & dinner. And the people, both the residents and staff are friendly. The staff carry out holistic programs designed to benefit the residents mentally and physically. A typical day may include line dancing, water aerobics, yoga, tai chi, balance & coordination, fitness conditioning, walk group, arthritis & joint care. Tours are provided for cultural events. And some cultural events are held at the DRV. For example, recently I attended a harp concert by an accomplished harpist and teacher. And on many Wednesday evenings my husband and I can be found enjoying a movie in the comfortable seats of the theater here. Two popular activities are led by residents. Four years ago our resident bird watcher began guiding many interested folks on Spring Bus Birding Trips. Another resident who moved here early last year started a book club in March and a large group of readers have been meeting once a month to discuss their book of choice. It is a comfort to us that if we need Memory Care, Assisted Living, or Rehab we can still be on campus here at the DRV.
May 2023
Very comfortable and inviting. Feels like home every time I stop in to see friends and family.
April 2023
I have been on the Dallas retirement village board for a little over seven years; two of those serving as president. The staff is awesome and extremely dedicated making it a pleasant environment for the residences. With the addition of the pool, the salon and the exercise center, this is a great place for people to spend their later years in life.
April 2023
Very caring staff. They took excellent care of my dad early in the pandemic. I can’t thank them enough.
April 2023
Our tour of The Dallas Retirement Village offered a complete and welcoming idea of living in its community. We never felt rushed as Tawnya Turner met with us to share background of the Village, accommodation possibilities, financial information, and a leisure walking tour of the beautiful facilities. With sincere thanks, Ed and Lou Brandt
April 2023
IK really like this place because I need non-sugar added foods to eat. The dining staff have provided me with a variety of choices to eat whether in the dining room or takeout meals. They have ordered drink choices, dessert nsa choices and whole food choices and meats. It's great!!!

When we moved into Dallas Retirement Village we said "We want less to do and more time to Play!" That's exactly what we have done. Almost every month we travel for at least one week and sometimes more. It's wonderful to come home to a freshly mowed lawn and a house that has been cleaned. Of course, if we ever "stay home" there are plenty of activities to keep us entertained. The people are amazing as well. Just last week we ate our lunch with Mr. David Parrott, the "Big Guy" on campus. We enjoyed his company and we had a great lunch. The other residents are priceless as well. We are never lacking for a friend to share our day with.
April 2023
Everyone on the staff has been delightful. The apartments are beautiful and the dining options would rival any restaurant.
March 2023
Rating 5 stars. 1. DRV offers wonderful, edifying Spiritual opportunities with Bible study, two Sunday services and 2 opportunities for prayer involvement. Very important to me. 2. Outstanding exercise programs and exercise machines. 4. Extremely helpful and accommodating staff (all the staff). 5. Great variety of delicious lunch and dinner menus (I don’t do breakfast!) 6. Variety of events to participate. 7. I love my apartment!

I do not leave reviews often, but when I do, it is because a partnership is particularly worth highlighting. Dallas Retirement has some of the most professional, well-organized, and courteous facility members I have ever had the opportunity of working with. I believe that companies who treat their vendors with respect, people who they have no obligation to do so, embodies the true character of a organization. Dallas Retirement, particularly Dale, Tom, Caitlin, and Tawnya have been a blast to work with and I look forward to continually growing the partnership well into the future.
February 2023
Simply put, there is something here at DRV to support every resident in body, mind & spirit. The variety of activities, classes, entertainment & outings can please any interest. Community is encouraged & input into decisions made regarding life here is actively sought, but never forced. The staff leaves no doubt that they enjoy their calling to care for, encourage & make each & every resident feel important. We could very well be the neighborhood you're looking for!
February 2023
We had a very positive experience moving our mother into the Assisted Living facility. Ben was great in giving us information and coordinating all the details for the move. Once we got mom moved in and situated in her new apartment, individual staff members came to her apartment to welcome her and escort her to the dining room and various other activities. Her assigned caregiver, Debbie, has bent over backwards to help mom and get her introduced to other residents. Thank you Debbie! And I can't forget Christina at the front desk! She's indispensable with all her help & knowledge! All in all everyone we've dealt with through this transition from Independent Living to Assisted Living has been extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable! Thank you all!
January 2023
The friendly welcome and thorough introductory tour my friend and I experienced during our time with Tawnya provided very convincing reasons to make Dallas Retirement Village our top choice for future senior living accommodations. We were also impressed by the consistently warm and obviously happy greetings offered by many residents as we passed through various parts of the facility.
December 2022
I always have a great experience with the gracious staff and food here.
November 2022
This place has seriously exceeded my expectations I couldn't be more pleased to have my dad here. Staff is attentive, and accessible. They return my calls promptly. And, my dad said he's not slept so good in years.
November 2022
My parents moved into an apartment in Independent Living as soon as they were built and ready for occupancy; that was seven years ago. My dad went into assisted living when the time came. Mom could easily visit him daily until his passing. It is now time to move mom across the street. She loves her new apartment and is looking forward to her next adventure. The staff is wonderful and great at keeping in touch and communicating with me when necessary. I live in SC, so this is very important to me. I would recommend the DRV to anyone who wants to live an active life and be prepared for their future.
November 2022
Friendly staff, amazing residents, and a beautiful community!

Love living here!
October 2022
There were lots of promises made during the "sales pitch." Some have happened; some have not.
October 2022
After resisting a move to senior living for several years, we moved to DRV nine months ago. Health issues made maintaining a home and yard too difficult. The freedom from these responsibilities and DRV emphasis on wellness have proven to be one of the best moves we've ever made. It's a new chapter in our lives and one we are enjoying very much. With all the different activities that are offered, we can easily create our own lifestyle. Activities allow us to be as involved as we wish. Contrasted with other senior options, DRV allows freedom from restrictive meal plans/hours, larger apartments, extensive exercise equipment and well-appointed common areas. We choose to cook for ourselves or select meals from a large menu of items from two restaurants. Residents and staff are very friendly. This is our "Forever Home".
October 2022
Really nice, professional and friendly staff, residents are happy and encouraging. It is always a great pleasure to work in this facility
October 2022
We have resided at Dallas Retirement Village for over 5 years - a wonderful decision! The best part of this life is the friends you make, people that come from around the country with incredibly different careers and experiences. We are offered a large variety of activities - games, exercises, trips, fun events - that make a nice selection menu. Meals here are a social experience for us. It's where we meet old friends and make new friends, all while enjoying good food and personable servers. We have a choice of dining rooms without no seating assignments. It's an enjoyable life for our sunset years!!

We feel like we are having a vacation at a beautiful resort, but this is HOME. Warm and beautiful, with friendly neighbors and healthy food and activities. The big surprise to us is that is so affordable.

A very economical place to live. You can't live on your own and get the same services that you get here. The cost of living out there is bad. Stop voice typing

Dallas retirement village it's like living on a cruise ship but with no sea sickness! There are so many activities and best of all the employees are caring, compassionate, helpful, and friendly. It is a happy place that I am glad my husband and I found.

This has an outstanding staff of loving caregivers. It's better then most resorts!
May 2022
I have been here a bit over 3 weeks and have found that it has been a very positive experience. The residents are very friendly and positive—the staff has been kind and supportive. I'm getting lots of exercise walking to and fro to various activities!
May 2022
It is really hard to write a review of DRV ... because there is so much to say. Gene and I put off coming to the retirement committee for 6 years, because we thought "we're not ready"! Boy, were we wrong. It is so much fun here and so very many things to do, places to go, friends to meet. The residents here, actually look after each other and then, there is Mary and all the girls that man the front desk 24 hours a day. But what makes DRV really special, are the incredible employees. So friendly, kind and efficient, from the terrific housekeeper, April, to all of our servers in the two dining rooms. And, we can't forget our wonderful Mary Sue at the "Central Blend" coffee and drinks bar. Two things that you might be surprised to find, are our beautiful swimming pool and spa and our favorite, the "Loft". The loft is a magnificent large space on the roof top for gatherings for happy hours or a BBQ. We're all trying to think of the fun ways to use this beautiful area, set up with a kitchen, plants, fireplace and a large screen tv. Well, I guess you can tell how much we love DRV and all its people. See Ya' soon! Lynnette and Gene Henshaw Unit # 2318

Food is outstanding. Madison and Bailey are easy going, approachable, helpful and great nursing skills. Amanda is knowledgeable, friendly. Her dog Theodore is one of the cutest dogs I've seen in my life. so friendly I could hang out with that dog all day. Facility is very clean. Happy residents. Most amazing place ever. I'm definitely going to be checking my parents in, even though they are only 45 I don't want them to miss out on the experience. Corn beef hash is amazing.

I work in healthcare and visit many communities. Dallas Retirement Village is among the best. Their staff is very friendly and accommodating. It is always a welcoming and relaxing place to visit. Their residents are loved and well cared for.

This review pertains to the Independent Living arm of Dallas Retirement Village. My parents have lived there for about a month, and we couldn't be happier with our decision. The facility is beautiful -- spacious living areas, with exceptional maintenance. We had some minor issues with the phone initially -- but their service staff came out immediately and resolved the issue! And above all, we could not ask for a friendlier or more helpful staff! My parents moved from Chicago, and it took nearly three weeks for their furniture to arrive due to a problem with the movers -- but the DRV staff was there to support them from the beginning, even providing for their basic needs until their own things could arrive. Everyone went above-and-beyond what was expected -- and they seemed genuinely happy to do so. Customer service has been excellent!

We have lived on the DRV campus 4 1/2 yrs and have always said it was a perfect choice for us. Here are some of the reasons that come to mind immediately. 1) The staff make us feel like they really enjoy their job and are always looking for ways to enrich our lives. 2) The convenience of not needing to cook and having housekeeping services, allows us more time and energy to pursue meaningful activities whether they are solitary such as reading a book or done in a group such as exercise classes, card playing or line dancing. 3) The variety of activities seem endless and we've discovered some fun new ones that we wouldn't have pursued in any other setting. 4) The buildings and grounds are so beautifully kept. We feel as if we live in a fine resort. 5) Services such as grocery, pharmacy, mail, liquor and emergency health care are all directly across the street. 6) We've made new friends with worldwide experiences to share with us. 7) And should we ever need to transition to a place that offers more personal care, those facilities are right here on campus allowing ease of family and friends to stay in touch. And these are only a few of the reasons we love living here.

For Margaret Solomon. love it here
November 2021
We moved here 10 years ago and have in joyed our time here since day one of moving here, I have in joyed the volunteering opportunity, Dart Driving, which allowed me to meet many residents. Also helping setting up the Hobby Shop. My Wife Karen loved all the opportunities of playing games of which we did many.I Highly recommend DRV as a wonderful place to retire. Another plus I Have felt was when losing my wife Karen the friends and Staff were always their with a comforting word. I guess you could say I give DRV a 10 Star rating LeRoy Rempel
November 2021
My wife and I moved to DRV 5 years ago and have been very pleased with our move. I am especially glad we made the move since my lovely wife passed away in December. I feel I couldn't be in a better place. We have many friends here and the staff is great. The facility has many daily activities for all ability levels being conducted in several parts of the facility. There is a pool and spa, an on-site beauty shop, our own dedicated pastor who conducts 2 Sunday services and weekly Bible study. There is also a very active Life Enrichment staff which offers a number of on site activities, as well as several monthly off site trips to restaurants, symphonies, museums, bus trips and visits to nearby tourist attractions. There are many more pluses about DRV that I could mention, but I will leave at that. For me, DRV is a great place.
October 2021
Moving into Independent Living at the Dallas Retirement Village was a very good decision by my mom and dad. It was a safe, supportive, and enjoyable community where they made friends, participated in fitness and social activities, and were proud to call home.
August 2021
My father Gordon Kunke was a resident at DRV for nearly three years. After recovering in Skilled Nursing from a fall suffered in his home, he moved into Assisted Living and ultimately spent the final two months of his life in the Memory Care unit. I cant overstate the appreciation I have for the continuum of services available at DRV, and for the kind and caring staff providing them. Dad was always treated with care and respect. I regularly observed staff going out of their way to be sure he had what he needed. My family is grateful for the efforts of everyone at DRV who made the last years of Dads life such a blessing.

If this review doesn’t make it it’s because they only post good reviews. The food here sucks. They don’t always schedule enough CNA’s for your needs. You do a better job of monitoring your health and the PA Here. They really need to stop thinking they are the best. There’s a lot of things they can improve on.
May 2021
We moved to DRV in early March of 2020, and shortly after we arrived the Covid 19 Pandemic changed everyones lives. To complicate an already difficult move, I took a hard fall causing a lingering injury. I will always recall the many thoughtful rays of sunshine the DRV staff sent me with their cards and meaningful messages. They have been a wonderful and supportive team.

Should we or shouldnt we? That was the question we (Jay and Jan) wrestled with for at least five years before deciding to sell our lovely home, downsize and move to Dallas retirement Village (DRV). Finding the right retirement setting was not an easy task. We visited retirement communities in eight different states and our path always lead us back to Oregon and, in particular, to DRV. The amenities here such as dining, housekeeping, gardening, woodworking, programmed activities, open spaces, level of care, service and a proactive staff are second to none and at an affordable cost. When one set of our children and grandchildren visited us for a one-week stay, they said living here is just like being on a cruise ship. You can pick and choose to do a multitude of activities or just do nothing if you so desire. Of course Covid-19 has curtailed some of these activities, but they should all return once the pandemic problem is solved. Moving to DRV has exceeded our expectations.
December 2020
My wife Jeanette and I, and our dog Buster, moved into a Lodge Residence six months ago. We could not possibly be happier. The residents were welcoming and friendly. The staff continues to be caring and helpful. We love the small town of Dallas, and the fact that all of our shopping and medical needs can be met right here. Groceries, and food services are just across the street. A variety of city parks are within walking distance. We are approaching our 80s and have found this to be the perfect place to grow old, comfortably, care free, and safe.
November 2020
They have all levels of care. They are adding on, so that will be good.
October 2020
Yes I work at Dallas Retirement Village as the Development Director for the Foundation but my experience with this amazing team goes way beyond my job. I have had many family members past and present who have called DRV their home and have received the most loving care we could ever hope for. The ability to move to different levels of care while still feeling at home is simply the best. I have had family move from independent living, to assisted living, use rehab and then finally to skilled health care - all while being treated with respect and love. Hands down - the BEST. Thank you.
September 2020
In June 2020 I had the pleasure and opportunity to be shown a cottage available at the Dallas Retirement Village. Sales Director, Tawnya, had been listening to me for months about a move in plan and what I wanted to live in when I retired. She found exactly what I asked for and let me know instantly. So here we were in the middle of Covid 19 problems but I sold my house in a weeks time, arranged for a mover and arrived within 4 weeks of viewing my lovely new home. I love it and residents have been extremely friendly giving me yummy gifts and welcoming cards and many hellos. Employees and managers have kept me informed about Covid rules, helped me get settled and learn all the wonderful opportunities to enjoy here in the village. As a former Manager working for the State of Oregon, I supervised the inspection program that rated the retirement living facilities in Oregon. I can say I knew what a good choice would be and I found it here.
August 2020
We can never thank you all enough for the love and support each one of you have provided for my dad while he recovered from a stroke and open heart surgery. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of his team and giving him the best loving experience we could ask for. For keeping him motivated and to stay strong so he can come back home. We love you DRV! ❣

Dallas Retirement Village (DRV)is first class, but in a small town way. The care is exceptional, the service is respectful, the food is varied And delicious, the Administration puts residents first while supporting its staff exceptionally well and the current residents are welcoming. There are many activities, classes and social Opportunities. They continue to grow, build and improve without losing that warm, friendly, caring atmosphere. The grounds and homes are kept spotless by great staff who take pride in their work and have hearts that love to serve the residents and guests. As a family member, past Volunteer and past staff (retiring after 20 years in middle management in 2019) you owe it to yourself to check out DRV before you make any final decisions about your retirement.
July 2020
We moved to Dallas Retirement Village almost 4 years ago, and its one of the best decisions we ever made. The staff here is caring and responsive, trying always to make our life easy, calm and comfortable. The pandemic has changed life for most of us. However, DRV has met all of the challenges with careful considerations to impact residents as little as possible, but still keep us safe. Most events (exercise, bingo, bunko, movies, chapel services, cards, line dancing, etc.) were completely suspended initially. Then as safe procedures and practices were developed, they were carefully and sequentially brought back. Dining was such a pleasure with location options any time of day and food presented hot and tasty. With the pandemic that ambiance has gone away, but we are still served delicious meals delivered to our rooms, or ordered and picked up at the separate dining rooms. Although this has been great, we anxiously look forward to venues reopening so we can experience the friendliness of sharing a meal with others in our beautiful dining rooms. The greatest gift that DRV has given, however, is to our family. They know beyond a shadow of doubt that we are cared for and loved in this community. We know this because Carolyns mother and Jims sister both lived here for several years before we did – with their moving here so many worries just simply disappeared. We wholeheartedly recommend this facility to anyone seeking peace and care in our golden years. Jim and Carolyn Wall

Many improvements are being made due to a change in management staffing. As an employee of DRV, I am proud to say I am a GNA for them. Care staff of eager & willing to make transitions into a care facility more comfortable for everyone incolved. Residents seem to have a better time adapting since management has been altered.

I'm from much Michigan and I was real worried about the care he is getting there and I'm very satisfied with the care he is receiving. Makes me feel better going home knowing he is taken care of the facility is clean and the staff are caring people. I hate leaving him to go back home but I'm so glad I was able to see him and know he is well taken care of so thank you to all the staff .

I think this will be a biased review because of these reasons. I used to work in DRV from 1997 - 2005. I had to quit to experience acute care setting since I received my RN license in July 2004. I started there as a CNA then LPN then RN. I had so many memories in the old building as I work with amazing co-workers and taking care of our residents. I so enjoy my time at Alzheimer unit. The adore my mentors who helped me for who I am now like Janet D., Angie M.,Jerrilee. The staffing lady, Jennifer, was a blessing to my life since she is the one who hire and gave me a great schedule. I also encounter DRV as a family members of residents. Grandma stayed in Alzheimer unit until the last day of her life. Grandpa stayed in skilled unit after his hospitalization few years ago. The staff are knowledgeable, patience, and caring with our family. DRV thank you! Love, Mavel

DRV is awesome! Don't move here unless you want to enjoy every minute. Whats not to like? They have exercise room, library, garden, dining room, trips all over the Northwest, bingo, and so on. Mom loves it.
