My mother spent the last year and a half at Highview and died there in January, receiving compassionate and very competent care to the end. Staff worked hard to integrate her to the "community," and as a determined and independent woman, she was not an easy sell. This community is small and well-cared for (14 residents in each cottage, each cottage a mirror image, reflected across a central kitchen/nurse's station). Residents eat together at a communal dining room, with residents carefully selected to eat together (or maybe they gravitate to each other, too). Research the Green House model to understand more. See the Globe and Mail's article "Quebec's nursing homes are betting big on the Green House model for long-term -care" I was impressed with all of the staff. They are masters at redirection and distraction. I learned a lot from them. Many staff have been there for multiple years. The admin and management staff know all the residents. This speaks volumes. There was never a day when I didn't receive an update on my mom when I arrived. When my mother first arrived, she had previously had a violent episode at her retirement home. Highview was sure they could manage this, but I was warned that she might require one-to-one care at additional expense. Fortunately, my mom settled in well. Eventually, her dementia worsened, and she had a very difficult time. The team worked hard to find solutions to her distress and worked hand in hand with Dr Bezaire, who visits Highview weekly. Even though her behavior was difficult, she was treated with compassion and concern by all. She did, however, require one-to one care for several hours a day during her most distressed periods. The cost for this is expensive but it seemed absolutely necessary. Highview handled the hiring of outside PSWs and sometimes their own staff, and we were billed monthly. Thank you to everyone at Highview for the care of my mom. I couldn't have asked for a better place for her (and for me to feel comfortable, too) at this most difficult time in her life.

After visiting Long Term Care homes, we left with heavy hearts knowing we could not put mom in them. My sister visited Highview as it was highly recommended and she was very impressed. Amy was very professional as she assessed mom and answered our questions. A room was available and within a week, mom was settled in. The ambience and atmosphere is warm, loving, friendly, engaged, fun and active. Staff love the residents as together they do puzzles, play games, paint, crafts, music therapy, bake, therapy dog visits, hymn sings plus much more. Meals are nutritious and geared to their needs. Residents can freely enjoy the sunroom, lounges, outdoor gardens in a secure area or spend quiet time in their spacious, bright rooms. Medical staff are quick to diagnose and administer medication if needed and always consulting with family. Mom is very content and happy with the care she receives and is enveloped in love. Visitors are welcomed and treated as extended family. Highview is the best place!

My father moved to Highview when he was 98, and seems to be happy there. I like the fact that it is a single floor cottage type facility. There is a beautiful garden for taking walks. The residents are separated into small groups which is very comfortable. There are enough staff to allow personal attention to patients. For example, they sometimes do jigsaw puzzles or reading one-on-one. Every day there is an activity. I find the staff keep me well informed of daily events, changes in medication, if he slept well, etc. I find the price reasonable and comparable to other full care premium residences. It has a high reputation in the city, and I definitely recommend Highview to my friends.

Highview provides excellent care. I have witnessed how all staff treat residents with kindness and respect. In spite of all the government restrictions during Covid we have always been able to see our people at Highview Highview is always very clean and well maintained During the better weather the gardens provide a place of respite for both resident and visitor. With restrictions lifting the recreation program is becoming more active with planned activities and performers. I have always found the staff very friendly and welcoming. Bottom line: I know based on my experience at Highview over the last year that my person will be well cared for and I will be advised to the care needed during the dementia journey

We are thankful for the amazing attention that my Mom gets at Highview. We know she is well cared for and she has become a part of the Highview family. Having a relative that has Alzheimers is not easy and Highview has made my Mom's life at least tolerable while this nasty disease continues to take over her brain and her body. It is comforting to my family to know that my Mom is able to live in such a respectful home, with respectful people who care.

Highview Residences has been a wonderful move for my father. The staff is caring, patient, and very kind to the residents. The residents have the best care and our family has peace of mind knowing that our loved one is so well looked after. Communication between all staff members and our family is excellent. We are updated regularly on any changes in Dad's needs. His personal care program is very comprehensive and updated every 6 months to be reviewed and approved by the family. Dad has the opportunity to participate in the various programs at Highview that help him emotionally, mentally and physically. My last point to mention is that the food at Highview is great. My Dad raves about it all the time. Highview provides an opportunity to dine with your loved one (depending on covid restrictions) in a very home-like atmosphere. We are extremely happy that Dad is a resident at Highview. During this time in his life where care and compassion is essential, we have the comfort of knowing he is being so well cared for.

Highview Residence has proven to be the best choice for our Mom. Knowing that she is in the presence of such warm, caring, friendly and fun caregivers has made her stay there very easy for her and us. The staff provides competent dementia care. Mom participates in organized programs as well as "little chores" that she enjoys doing. The meals and snacks are nutritious and are enjoyable to her. The menu changes for the season and special occasions and holidays are celebrated. We are extremely pleased with Highview and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

My family had to move my mother to the London Highview Residences around six months ago due to ongoing safety concerns. She was previously in an assisted living facility and the worry around falls and wandering outside was becoming extremely stressful and scary for our family. Highview has the most dedicated and amazing staff I have ever met. They seriously care about the residents and deal with them in a very patient and gentle manner. The staff treat the residents as if they were their own grandparents. The administrative staff is fantastic about communicating with me regarding anything involving the services in Highview and current policies as well as specifically sharing their personal experiences with my mother. Every time I visit my mother she is either engaging with other residents in one of the many activities they organize (such as playing bingo, putting puzzles together, doing arts and crafts, listening to the entertainment they bring in etc.), or she is chatting with other residents in the great room. My Mom loves the great room as she gets to observe all the comings and goings of the residents, staff, and visitors. The number of falls has reduced to very rarely, and there is no more wandering off. They are extremely well equipped to deal with sundowning which is huge for me as I was previously getting close to 10 calls a night from my mother as she was confused as to where she was. The food is all freshly made in front of residents and visitors and smells delicious. Many times they are baking muffins from scratch or cutting up fruit or cheese for the snacks. My mother, who previously was mainly subsiding on Boost, no longer needs it as she is eating proper meals again. I would strongly recommend Highview to anyone who wants to make sure their loved ones are being properly taken care of in a loving manner and engaged in many social and appropriate activities. They enable me to no longer continually worry about my Mom and to allow me to really enjoy my visits with her.

My husband has now been at Highview for almost a year. I have to say I am extremely impressed with the staff and care that he is receiving. Everyone is so kind to him. He loves to make people smile and the staff is quick to laugh at his jokes. Uri continues to provide great food for them and his presentation is wonderful. Everyone is quick to respond to any questions I may have. Thank you to all of the staff at Highview.

During my summer of 2021, I had the opportunity to work for Highview Residences, and I have to say, it was an amazing experience for me. As someone who just started working there, what predominantly stood out to me was the workplace culture that emphasized kindness, acceptance, and patience. Because of this, I felt appreciated by the staff and residences - making my enjoyment at work even greater. I hope that anyone who is interested in seeking a job will take this place into consideration.

Highview Residence is the ideal home for our elderly mother. While they specialize in caring for people with dementia, I believe it is a good setting for anyone with advanced frailty. It is relatively small and we only learned about it from the LHIN's home care coordinator. Our mother was always opposed to living in a nursing home but with increasing needs it was not possible for her to continue living alone even in her seniors apartment. Highview provides individual rooms that are furnished and decorated by the resident (or their family 🙂 so we were able to bring familiar things when she moved. The common area that includes where meals are served is only a few steps away. With only 10-12 residents in each "cottage", it has a cozy feeling. The staff ratio and the care provided is excellent. Also, apart from incidentals like special foods, the monthly fees are all inclusive without having to pay for extras like other retirement homes that we have seen. The garden area is perfect for walks when the weather is suitable. Of course, visiting has been challenging during the pandemic. Highview was always ahead of the curve and ready to provide what was allowed as soon as it was announced (and cut back when it was not). And they picked up looking after little things as well, like getting special treats and food that we used to bring for our mother. It has now been about 1-1/2 years that our mother moved to Highview. Her condition has been stable, and I attribute that to the care received since she was on a downward trend previously. And it is comforting to know that she can continue to receive her care there without needing to move again.

People with Dementia require a special kind of attention and care, and family & friends are not always equipped for caring for their loved one. Neither are some long term care facilities. Highview residences are not only purpose designed & built for people with Dementia; the staff are trained to respond to, and care for, their residents with Dementia. It was a relief to find a safe place for my Mom where she is well taken care of. My experience with the staff in managing her care and day-to-day engagement has been so positive. As we make our way through this pandemic with lockdowns and regulations that direct visiting and outings restrictions, I particularly appreciate the great job of balancing communication & accommodation to families, the safety of all residents & staff, and following provincial guidelines.

Our loved one joined the Highview "family" in August 2020 when it was clear that her disease was at a point that independent living was no longer an option. Joy Birch, CEO at Highview, and her staff are compassionate, respectful and provide an extremely high level of care in a safe environment. Their patience and understanding in responding to our questions and fears about the progression of the disease has been such a comfort. The staff at Highview have taken the time to really get to know our loved one and have provided numerous recommendations that have enhanced her quality of life. It was wonderful that she could bring some of her own furniture and familiar items with her. This really helped make her feel more comfortable as she began this new phase in her life. Joy has been an outstanding leader throughout the COVID-19 health crisis and has been a strong advocate for the residents and families at Highview. She has kept us constantly informed on public health directives and safety measures put in place at Highview to safeguard both staff and residents. I've also appreciated the many opportunities offered to family members to provide input and express our feelings throughout this stressful time. It has been a comfort to know that we're not alone. Our family is truly grateful to everyone at Highview for providing such wonderful care of our loved one!

Our family's experience with Highview, London dates back to early 2019. At that time, we were quickly adapting to a diagnosis of advanced dementia of a loved one. We had heard positive things through the grapevine about Highview, and after touring it and several other homes, we settled on Highview, London. From the start, we were relieved and impressed with the attentive, effective care. The accommodations and food were very important and they were good. Engaging programing was also part of the mix, however our loved one was not really socially inclined when he arrived. Communication lines were always good. What has been most impressive has been Highview London's response through the pandemic crisis of the past twelve months. In an ever changing political and policy environment, administration and staff have introduced, followed, communicated, and updated protocols. A high level of care (and caring) has been sustained. Multi-modal communications have been frank and clear. Our loved one has at all times been calm, comfortable, and well cared for in a lovely environment. Highview London has become his home. Bottom line: We have been grateful for the thoughtful and effective care provided by Highview, London through the greatest crisis that most of us have lived through.
