I have been a Registered Nurse for over 47 years and still work on a casual basis. I am often asked where I would place a person with dementia who requires 24-hour safe care within a locked setting. My first answer is always the Courtyards on Eagleson Road. I am so impressed with this intimate, de-institutionalized retirement community that I have placed a close member of my family there. My family’s worries disappeared once we came through the door and have never wavered. There are many reasons for recommending the Courtyards. They have provided years of experience in offering holistic dementia care along with a cozy, flexible, familiar, and quiet environment that provides comforting assistance for the residents with all symptoms of dementia. With the home working closely with Dr. Christine Billie, the medical care needs for the residents is superior. Her experience working also at the Ottawa Hospital, provides up to date physical and mental care for the residents. Another reason is the design of the home. The building consists of four courtyards for resident activities or family gatherings with light streaming in to the halls at all time. Each resident unit has large windows and often garden or shrubs just below the windows. The big activity room, with an entrance for each side of the residence, is large enough for all residents to enjoy the varied activities from sunrise to sunset. Comfy chairs are available for families to accompany their relative. There are additional areas to sit and talk with relative or even watch TV or play a game throughout the facility. Courtyards offers a range of care options often not found in other retirement homes. Care usually only found in long term care can be provided which includes mechanical lifts and 1 to 1 feeding. The staff is one of the main reasons that I recommend Courtyards. RPNs not non-regulated staff give out medications. Staff are warm, welcoming, professional, enthusiastic, respectful, compassionate with an old fashion work ethic. Attending to their clients is their priority. Cleanliness is meticulous of the setting and of the residents. I never once had a concern about my family member as the staff are skilled, detailed oriented and happy in the environment that they work in.

I just wanted to thank you and the Courtyards team for making the transition for my Dad so easy and welcoming. It made such a difference to have your help with all the logistics, and the care team have been phenomenal in getting to know Dad and understand his preferences. They have been so calm and patient while he adapts to his new surroundings, which gives us tremendous peace of mind. We absolutely love the soothing, beautiful environment, friendly helpful staff, and everything about the Courtyards. Kudos to you and the team, and a huge thank you from us for everything!

My father was at the Courtyards for 18 months. We had moved him here after a 2 year stay at another seniors home on a memory floor. The Courtyards pods are setup perfectly with much needed sunlight for dementia patients with bonus area of a fully enclosed outdoor spaces. We loved that all the exit doors were covered with wallpaper that looked like bookcases. At his previous home, my dad would sit by the elevator waiting for the door to open to escape. (Which was very upsetting to my family watching him fighting to escape). The configuration at Courtyards meant that we never had any issues with him trying to escape! All the staff were super helpful, professional and very caring. All the staff would call him by name to say hello and ask him how was he doing. My dad loved the attention!!! My dad also had issues in the dining hall in the previous home (40 + people)...so having a dedicated dining room for each of the 4 pods was a excellent upgrade with only 4 or 5 tables. He benefited from having fewer people around to bother him while eating. The Courtyards also would get him up in the morning and lock his door forcing him to sit in the TV room (one in each of the 4 pod as well) or in the community room doing activities. If his room was open he would have just gone back to bed and slept all day (then be up all night). Such a wonderful well thought out building. They made him feel so special in his last days. My mom spent many years at 3 retirement homes with the last 7 months being at the Courtyards on Eagleson. I can honestly say that for Dementia patients the staff is the most professional and caring staff. From top to bottom everyone made her stay there enjoyable. Activities and theme decoration for holidays and special events was fantastic. From my perspective it also made me more relaxed that she was being treated well. My mom passed away there and the home was very responsive to our needs during that time. I highly recommend this home.

Mom lives at the Courtyards on Eagleson. I cannot say enough about this wonderful community. The care, attention, and love that each member of the staff show my mother is unparalleled. There are daily activities that promote health - not only of the body, but also mental health. Residents are encouraged to participate in all activities, which has helped Mom to make connections with others, and to enjoy her days fully. The Courtyards understands dementia, and dignity of the person. This is so important. The residence is full of natural light, spacious, clean and has four enclosed courtyards for the residents to enjoy when the weather is lovely. The food is fresh, nutritious, delicious, and tailored to what the residents enjoy. Once again, we have to mention the staff. They are absolutely amazing. When we first phoned Bonnie (the Director of Care), and were overwhelmed with finding a place that Mom would love and that would take care of the most wonderful woman we know, Bonnie was honest, and provided us with information and help and invited us to come and see The Courtyards on Eagleson. Once we toured it, we understood that this is a loving space were Mom would be happy. We are so lucky to have found such a wonderful place.

My mother has lived at the Courtyards on Eagleson for almost 2 years. The staff are friendly, helpful, and caring. Daily activities are fun and engaging, meals and snacks are great, and my mom is always clean and comfortable. The Courtyards pod layout is so smart, especially with the ongoing threat of Covid. I'm grateful for the excellent care my mom receives there every day. Bonnie and her team helped transition my mom seamlessly, and with dignity, from living at home to living in care. The Courtyards on Eagleson is a wonderful home full of caring and compassionate staff. My father's increasing care needs have been responded to with compassion in a very timely manner. The staff, including the doctors and administrators, work with our family and the medical system at large to ensure that he can remain in his familiar environment and avoid hospital admission. Their patience and expertise got him through a very difficult time during the height of Covid restrictions when we couldn't be there for him. Great Team!

The Courtyards on Eagleson is an exemplary retirement home. I have been most satisfied with the care that my mother has received for the past few years. The management is outstanding, the medical care excellent, the food great, the activities stimulating and appropriate for the residents. The day to day care by the staff and volunteers is loving and professional. I am so happy that we chose the Courtyards for my mother's residence. They have managed the Covid months with compassion and rigour.. They have kept everyone safe and well.. Thank you Courtyards on Eagleson!

I can't imagine better care for my Mom. Since moving to the Courtyards 6 months ago, her quality of life has improved and so has her physical strength and memory! My Mom is so much happier at The Courtyards and I think it has everything to do with the caring staff, the daily activity programming which includes a lot of visiting musicians, and the healthy meals served in small dining rooms so as not to overwhelm. I didn't see it at the time, but when she lived at home there wasn't enough stimulation or excerise. I can sleep at night knowing that my Mom has such great care.

The Courtyards on Eagleson is a great place for Memory Care. The staff are amazing; they make each resident feel special . They have lots of activities for the residence and great food made by a chef in house. The residence is very nicely decorated keeping memory care in mind for all the details.
