My Mother was in Feridean for about 11 years. She passed away 2yrs ago at 104. This was my second home for the time she was there. She got wonderful care and I just hope it is still there and as good when my time comes for asst living. I told Ron this and want Fred to know too.

Grandma lives here and I have visited her a several times since she moved into one of the condos 18 months ago. She enjoys the community and the activities. My wife, kids, and I joined her for dinner in the dining hall and it was a good experience.

I lost my dad today and will never forget the love I saw towards him by an awesome group of people who I now consider family. AN OPEN LETTER TO THE STAFF AND RESIDENTS OF FERIDEAN COMMONS: My dads been battling COPD for the better part of a decade now and a long arduous journey its been with many ups & downs. Five years ago in 2011, after several subsequent hospital stays he agreed to move into an assisted/independent living community located in Westerville, Ohio called Feridean Commons. He was a bit skeptical about the idea of giving up his own place with such wonderful friends at the lake in Indiana where he had lived, but he kept an open mind and within a few short months he was participating in lots of activities at Feridean (bingo, poker night, weekly shopping trips, the lunch bunch trying different restaurants around the city). Validation occurred when I would visit and he would say, "I appreciate you coming by but I've got 5 minutes till wii bowling and you're welcome to watch, but I gotta go! My sister and I felt pretty good about where Dad was living now. Although I had visited so many times joining his friends for dinner and interacting with the staff that keep this place running, I had no idea how much of an impact my dad had made in this community and how much of an impact the community made on him. In fact if youve seen the movie Shawshank Redemption, the main character who does the some of the guards taxes thats my dad here. Once some of the residents and staff found out he could do tax returns, they were popping in his room to ask questions about deductions and year after year he was helping a dozen of them with filing their returns. As much as he was a help, I have to be honest, he was also pretty vocal when things could be improved and was one of the first to speak up and lead the charge for the residents with demands for faster wifi (although I suspect only 5% of them actually knew what wifi was) and for medium rare steaks! But in his defense, he also complimented the chef when something was good so much that they named the lasagna after him! So my dad was admitted to Riverside Hospital the Monday before Thanksgiving and was diagnosed with pneumonia. After a few days of strong antibiotics, he was well enough to return to his assisted living community on Thanksgiving Day and it appeared that he was bouncing back like hed done a half dozen times before. Once he was settled I returned to my family only to receive a call a few days later that I needed to come back to Columbus that he wasnt doing well. Over the past week the hospice team from Kindred Healthcare was called in to assist the regular medical staff at Feridean, and I have never seen two different groups of people work so well together in my life. Despite my dad being the very private person that he was (not wanting to have visitors see him in his final days) one of the things that made his transition and the last 48 hours bearable, was seeing the overwhelming love from the staff towards my father as they each slipped into his room to say their goodbyes and being able to listen in on all the great stories that they experienced together over the years. I am eternally grateful to the people who cared for my father and am thankful that my sister and I were able to both be with him as he passed peacefully this afternoon in his room. I know that he is in a better place with my mom now and I look forward to the day we will be reunited in Heaven. Dad... You will truly be missed. And to the staff and residents that forged deep relationships with my father, I hold the utmost respect for all of you and consider you an extension of our family! We were truly blessed to have our father in your care. YOU ARE ALL ROCKSTARS!!! Corey Cook
