Reviews Mount Alverna Village
May 2026
After looking at numerous nursing homes we thankfully found Mount Alverna a few years ago and are pleased with the room, food, and caring attitude overall. Being Catholic, we love the Chapel and the spiritual interaction that is available. I have found nurses and aides that are caring and listen to family input as a team approach to providing the best care for our loved one. Raj and other nurses have listened to any concerns I had and have shown compassion to my wife. Management shows care toward having good aides and staffing levels, not easy in todays environment. There are long term aides there that I hope stay for many years to come as they go above and beyond to show care and compassion to all their residents.

My relative stayed here and our family had a very positive experience. The staff was caring, attentive, and always treated residents with dignity and kindness. We truly appreciated the clean environment and compassionate care.

Our Mother has been at MAV for about 4 years now and we couldn't be happier with the facility. We are particularly grateful to all the staff on 3W for all they do. The unit manager, Raj Kaur LPN, has been extremely helpful and has always answered our questions and any concerns almost immediately. So grateful that Raj and the nurses and aids will pop in and check on our Mom throughout the day. It's difficult to have our Mom in a facility but we know she is well cared for every day. We can walk down the hallway or to other floors and we are always greeted with a smile and a hello by all the staff...from nurses to administration and all the staff. We are most grateful for Raj Kaur and all the nurses and aids on 3. Thank you for all you do.

Very caring and professional team. The facility is always clean, peaceful, and the residents are treated with kindness and patience. Highly recommend.

Be wary if your loved one cannot speak up for themselves – EXPECT NEGLECT. My mother was admitted to the third floor of Mount Alverna Village for short term rehab. We were told it was the best option nearby, but what we encountered was far from acceptable. From the moment she arrived, there was a noticeable lack of communication and basic care. She was placed in a room with a non-working TV and received no orientation at all -- no explanation of meal times, therapy routines, schedules, etc. When I asked staff if families receive any kind of admission overview, I was told they do not. It was unsettling to have no clue of what to expect. My mom arrived at lunchtime after not eating all morning. Since she didn’t eat fish, they said they would bring her a sandwich. It took over two and a half hours -- and multiple inquiries -- before she finally received it. The TV remained unfixed despite several requests. The overall attitude felt dismissive. I spoke with the manager, [name removed], LPN, as the lack of attention was already concerning. I was told staff had been busy with a resident party. Yet after that party ended, my mother was LEFT IN A WET DIAPER FOR MORE THAN 14 HOURS. She began tracking call light response times: 20 minutes, 30 minutes, sometimes longer. Occasionally someone would stop in only to say they’d return, and then she’d wait again. This is not the level of care anyone should receive. One night, an aide was rude to her after she had an accident. She became so anxious about waiting for help that she started getting up on her own to use the bathroom -- something she was not supposed to do because of her fractured hip. She also repeatedly asked for her ice pack, only to be told it was “misplaced.” It conveniently reappeared the moment I arrived to take her home after just four days. The floor manager, [name removed], LPN is full of excuses. The only blessing was the chaplain, who was genuinely kind and compassionate.

I want to thank Mount Alverna for the wonderful evening with my sister at your big Las Vegas event. It was fantastic. The rain was bad, but everyone kept on keepin on and had a great time too. What a dedicated wonderful staff so committed and caring. The Administrator Patrick right up came to my table and remembered me after one year passed since my mothers passing. He is incredible and caring I was in aw. Sandra, admissions and Tami moms nurse such dedicated people, and Mary Ann, and your team you did a fantastic job. The food the music, and seeing everyone long after mom passing and everyone of the staff remembered my mother and me and my family. I have so much love and admiration for this establishment that I will always visit and be a part of Mount Alverna, in my mothers good name . Bless you all. I'm coming back with some great music to dance with your residence soon, just like me and mom used to do She is smiling ™

Review from Eileen & Vera Rizk. Exceptional overall service!! Top notch nurses, aids, housekeeping, kitchen office staff, activity coordinator etc. We're the most dedicated caring & professional by far, that we've ever seen in the industry! Activities & therapy was superior! We had a bad experience last year at another nursing home!. We were presently surprised with Mt. Alverna, just as Beth said she felt we would be! It was a bright, clean with a beautiful decor & beautiful chapel! Forever grateful ™ for a positive experience!! Many thanks & blessings to all!!

My mom lived here for over 2 years and recently passed away. Mt. Alverna did a very good job at taking care of her and treated her with dignity. My family had a tough time finding a good nursing home but this place treated her very well. Just want to extend my thanks to all of the hardworking aids, like Caitlin that made her time a lot easier.

I had visited more than 13 acute rehabilitation places in the last week after my husbands hospital gave us places that we could visit for acute rehabilitation. Some are outright dirty and some are really nice structured buildings but my focus is the rehabilitation part and the services. We have used Mt Alverna in the past and I suggest to look no further. First very good staff , professional and who genuinely cared about us. It’s very clean - if there’s something you need assistance housekeeping response is quick. The best part is the rehabilitation department Speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy are adequately staffed and a lot of them are full time employees not third party company. The rehabilitation department is fully equipped nothing comes even close- there’s even a car to practice getting in and out of a car - all inside the gym. The recreational activities in this facility is a serious matter. There are programs everyday to help entertain, and help your mind get stimulated and enriched! Administration people are there to listen and help you. Admitting officer Anna has been very kind and so are people in the social services. What’s not to like there are at least 2 courtyards you can go in a day of nice weather. A chapel and sister Angela and Joe . Ms Marianne who welcomed is in every admission ( this is our third ) . Lastly this is one of the three JCHAO approved facility in the Midwest 2 in Chicago area , and Mt Alverna the only one in Ohio. Could say anything better- definitely not a perfect place but this is definitely a stand out against the rest. We’re grateful we’re here. Thanks to all the wonderful people we encounter everyday here.

Let me start by saying I am a tough critic. I have worked in the industry for over 30 years and am currently a corporate director for a nursing home group. My mom has had 3 short term rehab stays at Mt Alverna and we would not go anywhere else. The facility is clean, the staff friendly, the activities abundant, and the therapy exceptional. I read the negative comments and am certain the writer is unfamiliar with the industry. I see it everyday. We are underfunded and understaffed. Mount Alverna generally has plenty of staff, and the longevity is unheard of these days. It is so difficult to get good help, but Mt Alverna does not seem to struggle with this. Everyone took such good care of my mom. She even mentioned going back to volunteer when she feels up to it! I want to mention the amazing activities department. They kept her busy and involved her in so many wonderful activities and events. There was always something going on. She even had the pleasure of sitting with the Administrator at an event. (Quite impressive that he’s been making that drive from Youngstown all these years, that tells you something! ). Thanks again, Mt Alverna staff. We rested easy during her stay, knowing she was in your hands. May God continue to bless each of you as you care for others in their time of need.

December 2023
My dad lived in the nursing home part of Mount Alverna and I am very happy with the care he received. After Covid sent his dementia into overdrive and the assisted living facility he was living in for three years closed with a five-day notice, I needed to find suitable care for him. Mount Alverna was the perfect choice. It's a few miles from my home so I could be there regularly. The facility is beautiful, and the staff is wonderful. I also have to give a shoutout to Executive Director, Patrick Welsh, for his commitment to taking care of his staff and the residents there. When my dad passed away, everyone was compassionate and supportive. I highly recommend Mount Alverna to anyone looking for a safe, wonderful home for their loved one.
November 2023
My mom completed two weeks of rehab at this facility after a broken ankle. The therapy staff could not have been better; in fact, we came back for outpatient therapy once she was cleared for weight bearing. The activities staff was always friendly and engaging. As is common for skilled nursing facilities, the staffing level for nurses' aides meant long waits for the call light to be answered, and we would have liked to see more fresh fruits and vegetables with meals, but overall, we had a good experience with our short stay.

This is a great nursing home. I would recommend to anyone. The place is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. My father has been a resident here for 6months now and I couldn't be happier with the care he is receiving.

Home-like environment, my father has been there for years and we cannot imagine him being elsewhere.
March 2023
We went to Mount Alverna for a tour of the facility , as we toured the facility we knew that we were at the right place for our mother, the staff was very helpful, respectful and carrying, they answered all of our questions. The facility is very clean and peaceful, in the memory care unit everything was organized and cleaned with beautiful rooms. During the whole tour we felt and noticed the attention, respect and compassion they have for the residents. The process to placed our mother here was easy, the staff made it free of stress and they communicated all the time with us guiding us step by step throughout the whole process. We can say we are very happy to have our mother at Mount Alverna, because her care is much better. I want to thank the entire staff for everything they did and continue doing for our mother and for our family.

My mom is in memory care here. Nurses and aides are wonderful. Food and activities are horrible for the residents. Also very expensive. Only once since my mom has been there have I seen a housekeeper, and never seen anyone clean her room.
June 2022
My mother was just released a week ago from Mt. Alverna Nursing Facility. I'll start with the bad first. The weekend staff is very nice and you do have some aides that are accommodating, but at times they have to get outside help to help accommodate the patients. They are working with a skeleton crew at times. The good, this place is very clean and has wall to wall carpeting. I can tell that the level of care is a bit higher than your typical nursing facility. The nurses are very nice and even the house keeping crew are very nice and polite. A gentleman on the third floor where my mom was at working in housekeeping made a special stop to my mom's room to say goodbye and the occupational therapist stop by as well and gave my mom a hug and told her goodbye. I could not be there everyday to see mom and I was able to rest fully at night knowing that she was being taking care of. NO PLACE is perfect, but I am VERY pleased with Mt. Alverna and I would tell ANYONE to just give it a try if you're looking for a place for a love one. From what I have seen when I was there it is a bit more upscale and my son has said the same thing as I. By the way, the staff ALWAYS kept me updated on everything that was happening and my mom even enjoyed going to the salon to get her hair done. The lady in the salon is wonderful. A HUGE thank you to the staff for taking such great care of my mother when I was unable to get there everyday!!™
December 2021
My dad spent several months at Mount Alverna this year and just completed his out patient therapy there. Although no place is perfect, especially in this Covid era, Mount Alverna nursed my dad back to his independence. Despite some minor medication issues (pain creams not being given to him when he "needed/wanted" it, etc.) there were very few issues. This faith based nursing home is clean, has a lot of activities (even during Covid) and the food was pretty good. The food seemed to consist of larger meals at lunch and lighter meals at dinner time. My dad put back on the 20 pounds he lost while deteriorating and rehab-ing post surgically elsewhere. We are so happy we chose Mount Alverna for his care. He will never be the same old dad we once used to know, but he was given back his independence so he could return home. He loves and misses his physical therapists. He talks about them often! Thank you Mount Alverna!

Understaffed, workers are tired and need help.
November 2020
My grandfather was temporarily here. The staff took very good care of him and worked on recovery for him. The aids treated him with dignity and respect and brought some smiles to his face. Although he was not a permanent resident, he was treated with the same kind of care and respect. It did not feel like a dreary nursing home. I felt comfortable having someone I loved there.
July 2020
My mother and father were rehabed at Alverna a combined 7 or 8 times. Overall care was good, especially the PT. Not too happy with receiving a bill from Dr. Franz 6 months after one discharge. Separately, my mother couldn't get a basic ice bag for post-surgical pain relief WITHOUT A DOCTORS ORDERS - REALLY ???? - to be sure I raised the roof on that BS. But what really got me frosted was one nurse manager pushing the idea on my father to use Alverna for Assisted Living. Completely unethical at best. Bottomline - good place for rehab, THAT'S ALL.
July 2020
My mother was at Mt. Alverna for rehab after a hospitalization. They did a wonderful job getting her back to the point where she was able to return home. The therapy department was very dedicated and did a great job! The staff on the floor, CNP, social worker, and admissions coordinator were caring and compassionate, making the transition from the hospital to rehab to home an easier experience than I would have expected.
July 2020
My mother has been to Mount Alverna twice for rehabilitation. The physical therapy is great and the new facility is extremely impressive. If you are looking for a facility in the Cleveland area, I would highly recommend you consider Mount Alverna.
July 2020
Mount Alverna Village is caring and loving community. They treated my Grandmother with loving care as if it was their mom or grandma. They went above and beyond to make my grandmother feel as party of a family. They treated her with dignity and love. I recommend Mount Alverna Village to anyone look in t for rehab or long term care. God bless the staff and community of Mount Alverna Village.

Very nice place and staff
January 2016
Our recent experience with this facility matched the Medicare and Ohio ratings for staffing and quality of care. The caregivers were for the most part (i.e. 95%) very good in doing their job based on the time they had and the methods used and also very nice and understanding. The food service and preparation has some deficiencies which correspond to past inspection reports and in some cases would not meet health department guidelines. The place is beautiful, being only 10 years old but needs significant improvement in the area or management and organization. No one seemed to have ownership for the resident and despite employees doing their jobs, their was a lack of detail in the care provided and overall results during the 6 week stay. Management of the therapy department needs improvement as their effectiveness in some cases is unacceptable. I wouldn't recommend it for rehab based on days of my observations/interactions with the staff and upper management.
