My loved one lived here for a little of three years in the memory care unit. While they do a decent job of keeping the place looking clean, the majority of the staff (the ones responsible for bathing, clothing, laundry, watching them throughout the day) do not care about the people living here at all. Good luck getting them to bathe/ change clothes because they will not! It can be a month or more before some of these people have showered. Several times I had to do it myself and when I changed his Clothes there was so much dead skin it was like baby powder floating all over. He has so much crap coming off him while I showered him. I also had a lot of trouble with getting anyone to fix his TV! You could not change the channel the entire 3 years he lived there- the second you pushed a button on the remote it would turn the cable box off and you literally would need maintenance to come help which was never anywhere to he found! It took literally SIX months of me complaining and each time I arrived his TV cable would not be working and he could not do it himself with dementia. With nothing else to do you would think the staff would have a heart and fix this but they would not I had to every single time. I felt nothing but sorrow leaving him there. Keep a close eye on your loved ones if they live here and plan on bathing them yourself changing their clothes (which good luck getting back after one wash it will be GONE for good!) they throw all clothes together so he would get back 5 ft tall womens clothing all the time and often have nothing to wear. Multiple times I showed up and he had no shoes to even wear to leave without forcing the lazy staff to go find where his shoes are and who took them. They could not be bothered to put their cell phones down for a second to have a conversation or help anybody living there. There were many times I seen people locked out of their rooms and asked if they needed help getting in and they said the staff wouldn’t help them. That is such bull crap to be locked out all day long when they want to take a nap and relax in their own damn apartment they pay so much for. This place needs to stop hiring so many careless employees who clearly do not care about the people who live here.

I researched a facility for dementia for my ex-husband, who is the father of my 2 daughters The Avalon at New Albany was perfect. It met his retirement income amount and exceeded all of my and their expectations. The process was quick, all of their questions were answered and the transition to the facility was uneventful. I have so many wonderful things to say about The Avalon New Albany. Let me start with the amazing staff. From day one Sharon greeted me with a charming lobby sign welcoming me, then she listened to my Dads needs and met every one of them. We found a perfect one bedroom apt for my Dad and she made each and every step as easy as possible. I not only found a wonderful home for my Dad, I also made a friend. She’s amazing. Then Colleen stepped in and got all the paperwork organized and was first in my Dads room to welcome him and give him a tour . Ken stepped in and helped me solve a small key issue even though it was outside of his responsibilities. He was happy to help. Every resident has been kind and welcoming. The facility is exceptionally clean. Prior to my father moving in he needed a nurse from the facility to evaluate his needs. Because of mobility issues my father was unable to have that done in Columbus. Nurse Jacque drove the 2 hours to Cleveland on a Saturday to accommodate my Dad. I was shocked by that level of commitment. Every person I tell can not believe that was done for my Dad. Every aid, every nurse, every dining room worker and every maintenance helper has been top notch. The Avalon New Albany has far exceeded every expectation I had they have allowed my Dad to stay in his routine, they have accommodated any request, I trust them fully with my sweet Dad!

My mom was recently moved to The Avalon in New Albany. I have to say, that I am very impressed with them. From the very first interactions with the staff, deciding and planning the move, they have been amazing. They are friendly and attentive to mom's needs. The staff being incredibly helpful getting mom in and set up in her one bedroom. Mom generally like the meals, with a nice variety. All in all, I really like this place. We recently moved my brother in law into The Avalon of New Albany. Though a difficult life changing event, we know it was the right choice. Everything about The Avalon is outstanding. There are many activities to encourage the residents to get out of the confines of their large apartments. They honor their resident Veterans by displaying pictures of them and offer a place for them to meet together. This truly touched my heart. They also have nondenominational church services on Sundays. Other activities include choir, trivia times, happy hour, Wii bowling, just to name a few. And, I hear the meals are first rate, too! And though these activities they offer are great for the residents, I need to explain the real reason behind my 5 star rating. It’s the people who care for the residents. I have never met such a caring and compassionate group of people. As soon as you enter the building you are welcomed by helpful and kind receptionists. I’ve also been able to watch these ladies interact with those who live at The Avalon. The tenderness they display is beautiful. Dave, the lead on anything technical, is purely awesome. Trying to set up my brother in law’s computers and tv, we were at a total loss. It was Dave who did it for us. He is gentle in his way of doing things for the residents. He has a good sense of humor, too which put us at ease. I know during the first week, we called on him at least 5 times. God bless this man for the patience he displays. Lastly, but most importantly, Sharon! She is the director of marketing and sales for The Avalon at New Albany. However, she is so much more than that. Sharon is a problem solver, she is helpful, she is encouraging, she is always right there when you need her. Sharon is my go to person, and she never fails me. Sharon listens to family members in a compassionate way. To me she just exemplifies the love residents and family members alike need at The Avalon. So yes, finding a place for your loved ones is always going to be a difficult journey. We couldn’t be happier over choosing The Avalon at New Albany. The Teeters’ family.

I recently visited The Avalon of New Albany on Valentine's Day with my 12 year old daughters to distribute handmade Valentines and carnations to all of the residents. I want to thank the business office manager, Kenneth, for his exceptional assistance during our visit. Despite the surprise nature of our visit, he graciously escorted us through the facility, ensuring everything went smoothly. His actions greatly contributed to the positive experience for both us and the residents. It's clear that the staff know all of the residents and their families well and truly care about each person. My mother, in the early to mid stages of Alzheimers, recently moved to The Avalon and absolutely loves it. Nicole and Sharon were exponentially helpful in facilitating a smooth transition for Mom into a new facility, and also answering the many questions our family had. Mom has lived elsewhere and her apartments felt like nothing more than glorified hospital rooms. At The Avalon, her studio apartment truly looks and feels like home to her. I can't say enough good things about the staff. My mom will ask the same questions repeatedly and then will say, "how many times have I asked you that?" The staff will answer along the lines of "we don't keep score" or "we're just reminding you," rather than something negative like, "This is the 10th time we've had to tell you that." They are very mindful of Mom's condition and always speak to her with kindness, never making her feel humiliated for her lack of memory. Mom knows her memory is slipping but the staff interacts with her in such a respectful way. They never talk down to her or speak to her in a manner that reminds her she has Alzheimers. In addition, the other residents on Mom's floor are very kind and often offer to help her. I feel like we have finally found the perfect place for her to call 'home' and highly recommend The Avalon. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THE FOLLOWING (11/28/23); Google won't allow me to create a new review. I'd like to share an example of outstanding customer service recently demonstrated by one of the employees at The Avalon, New Albany. My mother, an assisted living resident, slipped in her apartment and fell, sustaining a gash over her eye and severe bruising to her right hand. A nurse on duty tried reaching me on my cell phone, but as I was driving home from out of state at the time, I was unable to pick up the call. Shortly afterward, I was able to pull over and check messages. I immediately called The Avalon's general number and spoke to an employee named Vanessa to find out Mom's status. Vanessa assured me that Mom was fine; she'd just been taken to a nearby urgent care to be checked over, but had been able to walk and was actually laughing about the fall. I let Vanessa know I would be pulling over off the highway a bit later to check in with her, as at the time I was still around 4 hours from home. I had also contacted my brother to let him know what was going on, and he reached out to The Avalon as well and also spoke to Vanessa, who was very helpful to him. He lives two hours away, so her assistance was invaluable in knowing that someone was taking great care to ensure our mom's needs were being met. In between my stops and phone calls, Vanessa was working with her supervisor and urgent care to get updates on my mom and figure out transportation for her back to her apartment. At one point, I was at a roadside rest along the highway, still a couple of hours away. Vanessa assured me that she wouldn't leave until she saw my mom return. I can't tell you how much that meant to my family, to know someone would do that for us, especially when I learned later that the day was Vanessa's birthday. Vanessa had arranged ambulatory service to get my mom back home, but it was going to take at least two hours before they'd be available. I was able to reach another family member, who I connected to Vanessa, and Mom had a ride back to The Avalon within about half an hour. Once Mom made it back to The Avalon, Vanessa made sure my mom had some sort of dinner prepared for her as Mom mentioned being hungry. In addition, Vanessa spotted a bit of blood on my mom's floor and thoroughly cleaned it up, which I'm sure was outside her job parameters. Needless to say, the day was very nerve-wracking for my brother and me as we were both nowhere near The Avalon when this happened and we were very concerned for our mom's well-being. Vanessa's calmness, her willingness to go "above and beyond" to take care of our mom, and her efficiency in making sure everything was taken care of was nothing short of exemplary customer service.

I moved my dad to Avalon after another assisted living facility insisted on moving my dad to memory care or the management would discharge him if I didn’t cooperate. I was told no one else would take him in assisted living due to his cognitive decline. I was heartbroken and knew this would make my easy going friendly dad feeling betrayed and just miserable. I was so distraught and didn’t want this to happen. Note: the staff was great it was the management I had a problem with. I meant an other women whose mother was at the same facility as my dad and she had the same experience, so she moved her mom to AvaIon and suggested I check it out. So I did. The management staff was just wonderful. They were very compassionate with me as I discussed my dad’s needs and concerns I had about the previous place. They said they could work with dad in assisted living even though hid memory is very poor. They look at things other than just memory when recommending what they think is best for a resident. When the time comes, they also have a memory care unit. The staff is awesome. They encourage him to join activities, they are on top of assisting him with showering, ensuring he wears clean clothes, taking an interest in what things he likes ect. The dining hall experience is great as well as the look and feel of the building. Everyone has welcomed him with open arms. A big weight was lifted once I got him into the Avalon. The whole vibe is much more cheerful.

Our family is grateful for the seamless transition our Mother had to the Avalon. We had multiple legitimate concerns and emotions about uprooting her to any assisted living facility. We were dealing with many traumatic issues: her husband of 74 years had recently died; she had lived in her home for 62 years; she had medical issues that required oversight; and for years, she defiantly swore she would never go to a nursing home! Her strong independent attitude had served her well for 95 years! The Avalon has exceeded our expectation! Every staff member has gone the extra mile to make her feel welcome, cared for, safe, and important. She eats well, sleeps well, accepts the medical and grooming assistance, feels comfortable in her lovely apartment, and has made friends. I am so relieved we found Avalon of New Albany. My mother could no longer care for herself at home and we had been researching communities while continuing to care for her daily. My mother is fiercely independent and had always said she wanted to remain in her own home. However she was resistant to outside help and care givers and the situation was becoming unsafe. As soon as we toured AONA I started to feel a sense of relief. Sharon was so understanding and patient with us and answered all of our questions over multiple days. We booked a 30-day respite care stay which initially was a difficult adjustment for both me and my mother. Sharon and Nicole provided so much advice and guidance and really all of the staff are helpful and calming for my mother. After she adjusted she began to actually thrive (participating in activities, eating with and enjoying the other residents at meal times) and we decided to upgrade to a permanent 1 BR apartment. She loves the food and staff and they are so sweet with her. I finally feel like she is safe.

Words can't describe the love me and my family have for The Avalon of New Albany. When we moved my grandmother into The Avalon a few years ago from her own apartment, we were all anxious about what her new chapter would look like and all we have experienced is joy, comfort and ease because of the AMAZING staff! The facility is gorgeous...pristine and clean in every way. The amenities are off the charts fantastic as is the programming. With all of these wonderful things, it is truly the staff that makes The Avalon stand out. From the moment my grandmother moved in...until now...there is always a friendly smile when you walk in the door. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but it is clear that the entire team works incredibly hard to make sure their residents aren't just a number...they are treated with love and compassion in every interaction they have. Every aspect of making my grandmother comfortable is addressed. I have always said, "Love is in the details!" and it is clear that The Avalon is a home that is filled with love because every detail is taken into account! Starting with Sandra -- wow! What would we do without Sandra! Her communication and going up and beyond the call of duty to engage with residents and making their families feel comfort is amazing. Her organizational skills, communication and thoughtfulness shines through in everything she does, every decision that is made. Then there is Rob who has become like a son to my grandmother, Eva. He finds a way to always think about "what would bring her joy" and he does it! My grandmother is taken with his thoughtfulness and everything Rob does to make her days enjoyable. It's the little things but they are so appreciated! Tia has also become like a daughter to my grandmother. Her compassion and patience is so warm. She helps my grandmother find her newspaper every day and does it with joy...again, the little things that make all the difference. She does everything that is on her job description and MORE! Valerie in hospitality is incredible...again, the details that are noticed are just incredible! The service that The Avalon of New Albany provides resembles the service of a first class, 5-star hotel resort! It's funny to think about, but it is so inviting, warm and beautiful that it seems like a desirable place to vacation 🙂 THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to each and everyone at The Avalon who help make my grandmother's final chapter such a beautiful experience. We recently moved my wife from an assisted living home on Polaris to the Avalon at New Albany and she couldn’t and we couldn’t be happier. They keep their residences as busy as they want with daily activities. We highly recommend the Avalon at new Albany and have zero regrets.

We have found The Avalon to be the perfect place for Mom. The staff is attentive and kind. They work to encourage her to participate and join others in the dining room. She thinks her studio apartment is lovely and the meals very good. Sharon has been extremely helpful from the first visit to our quick move in. Sharon, along with Jill and Nicole have been patient and supportive as we transition to this next chapter in mom’s life. I would highly recommend The Avalon to anyone looking for a place for a loved one that treats them with respect and compassion.

The Avalon was the perfect place for our dad as he was quickly transitioning from another facility following surgery and rehab. Sharon presented all the amenities and helped arrange an expedited entry. She has also followed up to make certain all questions are answered and concerns addressed. Jill has clarified many of our nursing questions and concerns thoroughly. The staff, PSA's and Nurses have provided kind, attentive care for my father while supporting my mother's daily visits. The Avalon has created a warm, inviting culture for its residents and guests. Our family would highly recommend The Avalon at New Albany.

I had my mom in the Inn at Summit Trail. It was ok in the begining but as time went by things went down hill and I had to find another assisted living facility (read my review on The Inn At Summit Trail). The Avalon Of New Albany happen to call to see how my search was going and that is when I found out that It was affordable and me and my mon took a tour. The staff was very warm and inviting and the tour was amazing! Just looking how you can have your family member make thier room look just like thier own room they had before which is really nice because these apartments are very spacious compared to other homes. Its very bright and open with a beautiful garden that the residents can go out and talk with family or other residents. The staff takes excellent care of your loved one and treats them just like thier own family. They have activities planned everyday and they will take your family member to appointments and shopping all the time! I recommend coming and taking a tour. Thank you staff, for taking really good care of my mom and I dont have to worry anymore as I did in the first assisted living she was in.

Our mom moved in February this year. We thought it would be a difficult transition for her since she has enjoyed her condo for the last several years. Much to my surprise she really seems to like it a lot!. The staff is very attentive and check on her several times a day and night. The folks in the dining room do great with a variety of meals and snacks - restaurant quality in every way! She's always off to an activity such as a movie, choir, bingo, shopping or even going out to lunch...whodathought! 5 Stars! Thanks Avalon!

It is a hard and stressful decision to make to place a loved one in assisted living. After long consideration with my mom’s input and looking at multiple facilities, we made the decision to move her into The Avalon of New Albany. At our first meeting, we all knew that this place was going to carefully take care of our mom! It was and has become very obvious that the kind and helpful staff would make my mom comfortable, safe, and appreciated. Although it has been a big adjustment for her, she has settled in with 3 wonderful meals a day and is surrounded by a staff that truly cares about her well being and happiness. The comfort and security that this has given my brother and I is truly immeasurable. A weight has been lifted from our shoulders! A sincere thanks to everyone in this facility who is providing the full scope of care, interest, and kindness to our mom who deserves only the very best!

After Unsatisfactory Personal Experiences with several Other Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing facilities in Central and Southern Ohio, and Hours of Online Research - 2 years ago we chose to move our Aunt to what was First & Main of New Albany, and is now The Avalon of New Albany. Even though she had difficulty at first leaving her Home, she has adjusted very well, and is now Happy with where she is and what it offers. Several factors attracted us initially, including the Dedication and Professionalism of the Management Team, and Nursing Staff, the Cleanliness of the entire property, the many Amenities, Activities, and Outstanding Food, which we have eaten several times. This facility has Many things to offer that the others do not. They have an on-site Chapel, Movie Theater, Beauty Salon, Craft and Hobby rooms, Party rooms, Meeting Areas for Family & Friends, Florida Rooms, Exercise Rooms, a Beautifully maintained and landscaped Courtyard, Excellent Chef and Cafeteria, weekly Games including Bingo, Euchre, Entertainment, Social Events, Crafts, Gardening, and host Special Events/Parties monthly. Recently there was a Fish Fry, Hog Roast, Pancake Breakfast, OSU Tailgate Party with bonfire, Thanksgiving Feast, and there will be a Christmas Party as usual, for Residents and Family. The 24/7 Nursing and Caregiver staff is Dedicated and Hard Working, and Second to None compared to what we have experienced elsewhere. Although it is Very Difficult for seniors to leave their Homes when the time comes that they cannot live alone or care for themselves, an Assisted Living facility as nice as The Avalon can and has made that transition so much better. Highly Recommend The Avalon to anyone looking for a New Home for their Loved Ones.

Today I was fortunate to be invited to their choir concert followed by a very nice Thanksgiving Dinner with my dear friend. The staff went all out to make this a wonderful time. Picking a senior living center for my mother was a very difficult decision. We chose the The Avalon of New Albany and the experience has been exceptional from the beginning. The facility looks great and is very clean. The staff continually exceeds my expectations with the care given to my mother. My parents moved into The Avalon in February of 2020 when it was formerly known as First and Main. They were there for just over six weeks when the lockdown occurred due to Covid-19. The staff worked overtime to ensure their comfort and safety. They also did everything to keep up their spirits, as they endured physical separation from their family. As restrictions lifted, the amazing social life of the center has swung back into full swing with corn roasts, happy hours, a family fish fry--the best fish and chips I've ever had!--a hog roast hoedown, and all of the other activities that the residents love. By and far, though, what I love most about The Avalon is the staff. I actually am tearing up as I write this thinking about how much they love and care for my parents. I will always be grateful that we found The Avalon!
