Our Mother was a resident in the Memory Unit for 10 months. The care was exceptional. Everyone on the staff gives the residents attention and great care. Their training gives them a great understanding of dementia and the stages involved. Caregivers, nurses and the whole staff are exceptional. Mother was very happy and we were so happy that we found this facility.

I have used Sunrise Senior Living in several locations, Falls Church, Va., Rochester, Mi., and Chesterfield, Mo. All three locations were consistent with the reputation for quality care for my spouse, brother-in-law, and my sister. I am also an investor in Sunrise stock (SRZ) because it has a solid reputation for its high standards and quality care. I have family located in Gahanna, Ohio in need of a senior assistant care. My recommendation to them was to seek Sunrise of Gahanna. After all the great experiences I had with the company it was at the top of my list. After several months in this location my family contacted me with concerns about the facility, particularly the resident care staffing. There is not enough staffing to provide the quality care Sunrise in known for. The resident care manager doesn't appear to care at all. She spoke with them about their concerns, but nothing changed. She's told them she has been at this location for quite some time and has worked for Sunrise Youngstown. She can't seem to maintain her staffing and she is not there to follow-up with residence concerns. She depends on her leads to train her employees. She retaliates against them if she receives any complaints, thus they leave the company. She also uses other departments to support her lack of staffing and they aren't trained to handle the residence. I was so disappointed to hear the highly frustrated tones in their voices; resident care is the front-line of any senior facility and it the most important of all departments. After the nurse's evaluation of new residence, the resident care coordinator is also involved with resident screening for final approval. This is not a skilled facility, and should only accept residence in need of assistance, and memory care. My family shared stories of psychotic behavior from other residence that should be in a skilled facility. Our loved one was struck on her head by a female resident with stool soiled hands and preceded to smear her stool on the walls. The soiled walls remained for a day before it was cleaned. This facility needs a corporate audit and staffing re-evaluation to return it to Sunrise standards. After the experience my family had there, I cannot recommend Sunrise of Gahanna. When my dad passed away, it was challenging to find the right home for my mom who has dementia. The staff at Sunrise of Gahanna did a great job to help Mom transition to a new environment where she feels comfortable, cared for, yet still independent. I can honestly say she seems more joyful now than she has been in years, and we know she is safe!

I cannot express thanking the staff at Sunrise for the excellent care my mother received. The staff were very caring and loving. The staff knew the individual and would call the individual by their first name and give them hugs. Rooms were always cleaned and the meals were wonderful. They had a different activity each day.. If there was a problem they would call and let us know. What a great experience. I would leave Sunrise and have a peace of mind leaving.

My father seems to have adjusted well to this community. I do comfortable with his move to this facility. He is safe, and in good hands. They have good staff, and they are kind, and have been helpful when needed. The community looks nice, and clean when I visit. They have activities offered for the residents. Everything has worked out well for us in this community, and I would recommend it to my friends.
