The Grand is getting 5 stars for many reasons. From the beginning the staff was kind caring and extremely professional and they still are. My grandmother is in the facility since November and we are happy. The girls in finance (Paula and Jessica)and admissions ( Stephanie) are amazing. They are helpful, respectful, polite, responsive and very professional. They really care. The nurses, pa, aids, and all staff are caring and treat your loved ones like their own. I just ask one favor if the food can be bettered. Some of the options are not preferable and still given to our loved ones. The facility is clean, safe, and everyone is attentive. I couldn’t be happier.

My mother stayed here for 7 months recouping from multiple surgeries. She went from bedridden to walking. The entire team is incredible. This is the 3rd rehab center she attended and by far the best one. If you have an issue or concern, they listen and help resolve. They continue to strive by always looking to improve operations. I cannot thank them enough on how well they took care of my mother. 10 STARS!

My wife spent 9 weeks at The Grand. There are not enough superlatives to describe the staff. They are very attentive to the patients needs. A big shoutout to Anna and Mikey at the front desk. Annetta, Ben and Carol at the first floor dining room are the best. Thank you to Rosemary who organizes so many activities. Mimrose, Sondra and Zulma are unequaled in their caring for their patients. Thank you to Khryss Asinas for everything. Chatting with Rebecca each day was enjoyable and informative. A big shoutout to Amy and Melissa the Physical Therapists who worked so hard with my wife. Last, but surely not least,I thank Stephanie Rodriguez for all your help. If I’ve left anybody out, I apologize. The positives far outweigh the one or two negatives you may have read in other reviews.

I cant give a 0000. Its one of the worse place I have encountered. I can count on hand the good nurses. If your love one is there and can't talk forget about it. I can talk from experience with me husband. The last incident thanksgiving day the way they had my husband poisoned like he could of fall out the bed. My husband had a stroke and speech is affected. I am tired having meetings with these so call people that dont care and there for the money. The next thing is a lawyer and the news channel up there

My relative was in this facility for 2 months. The staff in this facility is exceptional, very caring and professional, namely staff on 2nd floor garden side: Sandra, Mimerose, Christine and Karen at 2nd floor reception. The nurse Ms Lu and Ms Wu are also exceptionallly professional. The PT staff; Mr Qui, and Sue are the best. They are so patient and caring. OT Lisa is also very good . My relation went from not able to stand to able to climb the stairs in 2 months. Million thanks to them. I highly recommend this facility for rehabilitation.

The building might be old but the staff is consistently friendly, professional, caring, and in some specific instances extraordinarily competent. I feel very comfortable about the care they've given my brother for more than a year now. Gold stars for QCRRH/The Grand. NOW, ELEVEN YEARS LATER, my brother is still at the Grand. A key complaint about food is the lack of real butter. Unfortunately totally unscientific and false beliefs about fat require that factory fats (butter substitutes, margarine etc) be served in institutional facilities rather than the real food. Over the time my brother has been at The Grand there has been some staff turnover, but the care -- and caring -- of those who are still there remains deeply appreciated. Having seen a few other facilities in my home state, I'm grateful that someone took the extra effort to arrange for his stay at The Grand. Overall I remain confident that he is in good hands.

Thankful beyond words am I for the wonderful care provided for my mother, Harriet, in her final weeks. Beginning with Stephanie Rodriquez who made the admissions process so easy to navigate with her comforting assistance. Ben, Assistant Director of Nursing, and Linka, RN Supervisor, saw to it that nursing care was provided in the kindest possible way. Even when I was impatient and nervous myself, they always had the calmest and reassuring manner of explaining and helping me through this ordeal. The nurses, MJ at night and CNAs Sandra and Norma at the bedside, showed real care and made my mother as comfortable as possible. Knowing that they took such good care helped me to maintain a sense of peacefulness facing the inevitable. They couldn't have been more professional and kinder. My heartfelt gratitude for all of them through such a difficult time. Thank you.

This place saved my life by helping me walk again. Having M.S. has been very challenging for me, especially dealing with falls and not being able to get up from the ground. The Grand Rehabilitation is undoubtedly one of the best places in New York State for physical training for elderly individuals. The staff genuinely cares about the patients, which makes a huge difference in their recovery. Thank you. Mr. B

I was a patient at The Grand for 6 weeks. Were I just to evaluate the Rehabilitation Services, I would give the facility 5 stars. This is the only reason to choose The Grand. However, everything else is in need of serious work. So this means that you have to decide if the two - three hours you are there will balance out the other 21. Do not expect to receive information on what to expect and how the place functions when you arrive. There is no complete introduction to the facility. Be prepared to learn the schedules of your Aids to know when to expect services or else you could wait for hours. When they are occupied serving food, covering the dining room or on break there is no one covering for them or it is inadequate. About 60% of the Aids are lovely, devoted caring people who do their best under the circumstances. The rest could use some serious training. The food is dreadful and may be delivered incorrectly: not what you ordered or incomplete. When you ask for something to substitute, they usually don't have it or never deliver it. Be prepared to come with things you can fill in with and to lose weight. There is a lot of floor cleaning going on but radiators, corners and curtains don't seem to get attention. I was impressed by how well meaning directors were but found inadequate communication between departments. Finally, the decor is old, and run down. The sad truth is that from what I see most Rehabilitation facilities in the area are roughly the same, if not worse. I thought about going elsewhere but found similar comments when I researched those facilities.

Mom stayed at The Grand recently for twelve nights for rehab after falling on her hip (no broken bones). All employees, even those just passing in the hall, were pleasant, with rare exception. There were heartfelt goodbye hugs upon her discharge! Fortunately, despite her 94 years, she is medically and mentally healthy, and she credits an experienced PT with speeding her recovery. Mom’s situation may not compare to someone with long-term physical issues, but for her it was a positive experience. She was fully capable to address her own discharge plan, staying only as long as necessary, but the nurses, social worker, and administrators that I spoke to were helpful. If the facility were newer and more spacious, and the food a bit better, I would give it five stars. Thank you!

My husband lived at The Grand, Whitestone for more than 3 years. The Good: 1. Wonderful receptionist/phone people 2. cheerful building entry, 3. no odor upon entering in the building, 4. alert notch nursing and medical staff: they were on top of my husband’s serious health issues, 5. kind aides who worked hard and performed the most difficult of tasks, 6. my husband was always clean, 7. he thought the food was good, 8. social worker was concerned and kind, 9. recreation supervisor tried to provide stimulation, 10. dietician worked with me, 11. rehabilitative staff worked hard and included my input Areas That Need Improvement: 1. As you go up the chain of command, the ability to communicate gets weaker: Either weeks can go by before one could get a reply to a call or email, or you have to contact again and again, or you get ghosted. I often felt like I was yessed to death, 2. Impossible to speak with a doctor: constant turnover, never available, 3. Staff working in hallways can be overly loud and boisterous, 4. Poor ability to complete important paperwork in timely fashion for claims, 5. Cramped rooms: Husband began in a room for two and was eventually moved to a room with 3 other people: his only light source was from fluorescent, he never saw the sun again. His bed was situated right next to bathroom and was constantly bumped by another patient’s wheelchair. 6. Patients often dressed in someone else’s clothes. 7. Sensitivity training when a patient dies and family is notified ISSUE: My husband entered with my small carry-on luggage filled with photos, books, clothing. He had shoes and a jacket. All of this went missing after he passed. Despite messages and emails to both the admin at The Grand and to corporate, I never received a follow-up. Instead, I was given a large carton of a few of my husband’s belongings mixed in with other people’s clothes: Imagine finding someone else’s: ONE shoe, a boot for a broken foot, tattered shirts and pants. It was shocking and mortifying. Admin promised to personally look for the missing things and call back. Never happened. That is not the way to handle such a sensitive situation. Perhaps a letter of apology? Token remuneration? I suggested they put in a claim via calls and email to the admin and corporate, to reimburse me, at least for my luggage. I was ghosted. Again. For-profit facilities such as this could be more highly rated if sensitivity to patients and family was improved. I would be more than happy to elaborate. This review will be situated on my blog.

When my mom was in late stage cancer she was admitted to the Grand for some rehab to increase her physical strength. I selected the Grand because they received high scores in the listing of Medicare facilities and we had known neighbors who stayed at the facility and who were happy with their stay. I found the Medicare ratings were accurate, as everyone in this facility worked to make sure my mom was comfortable and working towards her goal. The staff was knowledgeable, kind, responsive and understanding. The facility itself was clean and well maintained. I'd like to mention a few of the staff who stood out: Dr. Win and Erik Gonzalez (SW Director) for their professional assistance. Dr. Win was an expert in geriatric and end of life care, and Erik helped facilitate my requests for my mom's specific care. Esmerelda, the evening nurse, was so caring, my mom loved her. If your loved one needs rehab or nursing care, do not hesitate to use the facilities at the Grand.

My dad suffered a spinal cord injury back in April of 2022 and needs 24/7 care as he has very limited movement of his upper extremities and lower extremities. He has been in and out of the Northshore and 2 nursing homes- PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO LITTLE NECK CARE CENTER AND MEADOW PARK IN FLUSHING!!! They have destroyed my fathers health causing him to have pressure ulcers on his lower back, left and right heel and his diabetes was never controlled. But then we decided to choose The Grand Rehabilitation in Queens and WOW this place is life changing it is a breath of fresh air. They are completely on top of his day to day care, physical therapy everything! They have doctors on call he has been evaluated by doctors. I have seen a dramatic change in all of his pressure ulcers they are completely healed!! Ingrid the LPN on the 1st floor needs a damn raise and be promoted she is an angel and one of a kind. This place would be nothing without her. She has compassion towards all of her patients she is on top of everything. She is caring no matter how stressed out she maybe she never shows it. She goes above and beyond. This place is lucky to have her. It is because of her being observant she ordered labs and it turned out my father had a UTI and he got on antibiotics. I owe everything to her!! Thank you so much Ingrid if you ever read this. I wish we can replicate 1 million of you, we will forever be thankful for you! As for the physical therapist they are on point and it is excellent I have seen such an improvement with his arms and legs. The other aids too are helpful and on top of their patients. Rachel she is the nurse supervisor on the 1st floor I must say she is on top of everything as well always helpful when I have questions. Thank you Rachel and to all of the staff at The Grand Rehabilitation. My father ended up passing May of last year and the amount of empathy and care they showed when he passed. I will never forget all the staff here, once again thank you to every single 1 of you ™

My mother spent the last 2.5 years in The Grand in Whitestone enjoying the compassionate and loving atmosphere that permeates the entire facility. I visited her on a daily basis and never witnessed anything other than a staff that totally caters to each and every patient . We admitted my mom to The Grand back in February after a fall, injuring her leg and shoulder. Mom was a patient at the Grand for three months. At first, we were rather anxious to do so, however, very pleased to know they welcomed and encouraged visitors 24/7. Certain members of the staff we found to be extremely caring, hardworking, and attentive to my mom. Several staffers and aides come to mind, such as Mrs. Walker, Sheron, Mimrose and others. Also, head nurse, Rachel, was very much on point and efficient with so much going on and listened to our every need. Entertainment Director, Ed and the team worked hard to help brighten the moods of patients by celebrating all holidays and scheduled activities. They all are truly the unsung heroes you don’t hear about and who are there for our loved ones who are in need of such care and attention. The one caveat is that they are understaffed and overworked and when a worker needs to go on a break, there usually is no one to cover. Key to check in and visit patient.

My dad spent several months in the rehab after having a stroke and heart failure. We couldn't be more pleased with the choice we made to send him to The Grand. The staff is absolutely amazing, from the front desk down to maintenance. This facility treats everyone with such respect. My dad never complained about nyone or anything including the food. The facility always has activities to keep the patients busy. Only down fall was the rooms don't have individual phones and my dad didn't have a cell phone..BUT he could go to the nurses station or cafeteria to call or we could call the nurses station and they would have him call us back. This is the place you'd want to consider. It's scary for everyone but knowing he was there made these last few months more barrable. We thank you The Grand and wonderful staff

This place is truly a gem with the utmost of caring staff/personnel. My father spent over a month at the Grand at Whitestone following hospitalization. He need plenty of therapy and care including lots of encouragement. He received the best of care right from the first moment we got in the door. I can't say enough about the excellent, professional and ultra caring staff....Nurses Eshwar, Rachel, Lenka and PT/OT Jim and Daryl...just to name a few but honestly there are so many more wonderful team members that made our stay at the Grand so positive. My father received the care he needed to come home and us as the family always felt welcome and supported. The staff at the Grand are the best of the best. This rehab/nursing home is a well kept secret in Whitestone. The staff go above and beyond in everything they do. My mother is currently there and they are treating her very well. I must give a personal shout out to the 2 best employees there. Michael the nurse and Bernadette from recreation. They go above and beyond and if I could, I would nominate them both for Nobel peace prizes. Not all superhero's wear capes. My grandmother has recovered here from 3 different falls over the past few years, and we have had a mixed experience. Ultimately the convenience of the location and skill of the physical therapy staff brings us back, but I truly wish the overall organization and communication were better. As I said, the physical therapy is top notch. Big shout out to Darryl (OT) and Diane (PT). The social workers are sweet (shout out to Erik and Mariam), and most of the front desk staff is friendly, too. During COVID, the recreation staff did a great job of FaceTiming with us daily (thank you Leoni!) to help us keep in touch. The facility is clean and comfortable. The problem is the communication. If you want a full picture on the status of your loved one, you will have to play a never ending game of phone tag with the social worker, nursing, nutritionist, and physical therapy. This will involve several calls to the front desk asking to be transferred and leaving many voicemails until you finally connect. I don't understand why everyone isn't assigned a case manager who can provide comprehensive weekly or every other week updates. In the past Pre-COVID, the communication issues were not as big of an issue because you could walk around and speak to who you needed to. Here is an example of the disorganization. We consented for my grandmother to receive her COVID vaccine, but no one actually ever told us she received it. I inquired a few times and got an "I"m not sure" run around until finally the incredibly helpful nursing supervisor looked it up and I was informed that yes, she had received it a month before. That could have been a month less of me worrying about her contracting COVID! Another prime example that I left about 2-3 voicemails the week of her discharge trying to find out the details of said discharge. And now how here I am over 2 weeks after her discharge still playing phone tag to try to pick up her belongings, which were were sent into laundry even though they knew she was being discharged soon. Plus, she changed rooms at least 3 times so her possessions including phone charger were scattered. I was told to call when I am ready to pick up, the belongings were finally all located. Yesterday I called to say I could swing by on my way home from work but was told they are in the shed and to call back in an hour. I just feel since it was really the facility's lack of organization it should be more convenient for me to pick them up. I just left a voicemail asking if I can pick up today. Apart from the disorganization and need for improved communication, there is also a tendency in our experience for this facility to try to push your loved one out before they are truly ready to leave, even if they are still covered under Medicare's 100 days. No one consulted us as to my grandmother's baseline abilities before her fall, so it's interesting how they determine discharge readiness. I was thankfully able to advocate for her to remain another 2 weeks for much needed rehabilitation. I was repeatedly assured by several staff members and the home health care agency they partner with that my grandmother would receive a few weeks of transitional home health care that would taper off, likely 5 days a week in the beginning. She was evaluated once home and told she would receive 3 days a week and for just 2 weeks. After advocating some more, I had that extended for a full month of care, but I do feel I was told what I wanted to hear so I would agree to discharge. Thankfully my mother is retired and can care for her, but what would we have done otherwise? My grandmother went from leading a mostly independent life to requiring 24 hour care, and I only knew the true limitation of her abilities post-fall because I asked very specific questions to ascertain the condition she was coming home in. Ultimately, this facility does provide excellent rehabilitation, but if you do not have a family with the time and means to advocate for your needs then it may not be the best choice.

My husband had a very pleasant experience at The Grand. I can’t say enough good things about the entire experience. Everyone I met here is kind, patient, knowledgeable in their field, caring and compassionate. The doctors and nurses are fantastic especially Dr. Win, Lenka, Rachel, Selina, Ms. Lee , Abie and CNA. The front desk Anna, Sally and Queen are very nice and helpful as well as social worker Erik. I appreciate everything the Grand Rehabilitation has done for my husband.
