The Legacy drained the resident of their money! They claimed she needed all this extra care! Funny we moved her, and she is thriving with no extra care! Please do not trust the Legacy!

Before I start, I want to warn everyone that this is going to be a long review. I was an employee of Legacy at Maiden Park before the community was even open. During my several years of employment I saw things change. Some things for the better and some things not so much. I loved working there. The staff was amazing. I started as the only nurse with one resident and as the population grew my positions within Legacy morphed into being a Unit coordinator, Case manager and assistant to the Resident Care Director. The only reason I left Legacy to go to another community was because it was a promotion to being the Resident Care Director. Fast forward to the present day. My mother has been in memory care at Maiden Park since June 2023. The summer went well with no concerns, but things started to change in the fall with the staff. How sad it has been for me to learn how much things have changed since I worked there. My family and I have noticed there has been some really caring staff in the memory care, so to them we say thank you. As for most of the staff, we are not impressed with the level of care, concern and love shown to the residents. There have been a lot of staff changes. Most of the caring, loving staff has been terminated (not only noticed by family of several residents, but current staff has told us “All the good staff has been fired”). Not sure of the reasons, but there were at least 5-10 great staff let go. Now Legacy has a lot of agency staff and if they are not agency, they appear to be Watermark staff that are very uncaring. While I worked at Legacy, we struggled with getting good staff but we also did not fire staff when there were issues that could have been corrected with discussing the issues. That is called “corrective action”. 1. My mom had been in the hospital for 4 days and I requested she get a shower when I returned her to the community. I asked three times before I left. Everyone looked at me like I had three heads. No one got up from their break of doing nothing, to get her in the shower. I ended up emailing the RSD to ensure it was done. I had also advised the med tech at that time she needed her PRN inhaler. Her doctor’s order is for 2 puffs as needed. I noticed on the way home from the hospital she was have difficulty breathing. After basically telling the med tech to give it to her, she finally was given her inhaler. She had her puff once and put the cap back on. She started walking away and I told her she needed another puff. If that happens with me standing right there, what is happening when no one is around??? 2. Due to the fall and hospital stay she had a new order to have one assist while using a walker. A walker she had never used before (She only needed it for about two weeks then PT got here off it). I returned to the community that evening to put her new sneakers on. When I got there, she was not in memory care. They had taken her to music on EALR, which was fantastic, however, when I got over there the residents were on their way back to memory care. Our mother was in the back of the line WITHOUT the $2500 assist near her. I sent an email to the RSD detailing our annoyance with the fact there was no one assist anywhere near her but yet, she was being charged an extra $2500 for it!! But that fell on deaf ears. The response from the RSD was “I’ll discuss it with the staff”. Is that the same staff who sit on their phones the whole time? 3. Our mother’s brand-new glasses have been missing for well over a month. Closer to 2 months. I would think by the number of times we have said something to the staff, they would have been found by now. I went through the hall cabinets (One of the staff told me to look since I know what they look like) and unfortunately so far no glasses. All my family members ask the staff to look for them because memory care residents have obvious cognitive changes, and the glasses and probably are in another resident’s room. If I was able, I’d check the rooms. But again, no one takes the time to search for them. Way too busy looking at their phones. 4. My sister who is the POA had reached out to the RSD, the case manager and business director on multiple occasions to discuss concerns. She has left messages and never received return calls. I think she is still waiting for a return call. I got tired of not getting return calls, so I stopped and only used email to communicate. 5. To have the RSD’s office up in the administration hall instead of on the floor is poor judgement. I have never worked in an Assisted Living Community where the families and residents did not have direct access to the RSD. To me having an open-door policy with the residents and families is extremely important. I’d have to say this just shows how unimportant the families and residents really are. 6. Even more so, to take a supervisor who had an office on memory care out and replace it with the maintenance office is just filled with poor judgement. The memory care population doesn’t need a bunch of men (if there were females, I’ve never seen them) coming in and out of memory care. When this was brought up to the RSD, the response I got was that the staff was congregating too much in the supervisor’s office when it was in memory care. Ridiculous reasoning. I would have to suggest next time having a staff meeting with the supervisor to discuss how to handle staff congregating. The answer Legacy had was to pull the direct supervisor completely off the unit and let the staff sit around doing nothing except playing on their phones. The phone situation is out of control there. Not only has our mom’s friends and family noticed, but other residents family members have also mentioned it in passing. Rarely do I see much interaction with the residents unless activities are doing something, or they are getting ready to have a meal. So I guess it is better to have staff on the memory care unit without a direct supervisor where the population is more fragile, so staff can be on their phones the entire shift. 7. The community is very dirty. There is nothing moved to give a good cleaning. Our mom has a small floor shelf unit. My sister was moving her from Legacy and when they moved the unit (which is very light and there isn’t much to it and the dust and dirt underneath was totally disgusting. 8. I had an issue that I waited to speak to the RSD about. She was out getting snacks for an upcoming staff meeting and came in just as I was leaving. I started to discuss a concern and her response to me was “ I can’t talk I’m getting ready for a staff meeting in a few minutes. _____ can help you”. Well guess what? I didn’t want ____ to help me I wanted to speak to the RSD. But I wasn’t as important as her snacks and her upcoming staff meeting. 9. One last thing. We made the decision based on all the above-mentioned items, along with several more concerns, to move our mother to a different community. The entire staff knows when and who is moving out. NO ONE came and said goodbye to our mother. The RSD was in her office, again up in the admin hall and didn’t come say anything to my sister or our mother. Not very professional in my opinion. Just reinforces that Legacy has no interest in their residents or the families. The BIGGEST focus this community has is $$$$$$$. Once they aren’t getting any money from you they don’t care about anything. These things may seem very trivial, but they are just the tip of the iceberg of the concerns and issues we have had come up. I could go on for hours. But hopefully anyone reading this gets the point. For $4300 a month (for a shared room) I’d say it’s totally disgusting. Also, our mom has been there since June of last year. On March 1, 2024 her monthly rate increased from $4300 to $4700. It’s called bait and switch. Get her in there at one price, then within 9 months raise it $400 !!!!!!!!!!! Putting on a review for Legacy at Maiden Park was difficult because it has been an important part of my life for several years. I have taken care of the memory care population since 2013 and know what is important from an administrator perspective and now from a family perspective. I know the drill with families and the administration. This review is only being put out there to possibly stop someone from spending WAYYY too much for their loved one’s care at Legacy at Maiden Park. Think long and hard about having someone you love move into Legacy at Maiden Park. What was once a loving, caring, well working community, now has proven to be a community where $$ is king, where there is no solid supervision, where the RSD (and/or Watermark) prefers to be up front instead of being approachable with an open door policy, where the administration refuses to take responsibility for their own actions, decisions and choices but chooses put point blame at the previous administration. (I was told the staffing issues were a direct result of the past administration. Well, the past admin is long gone. Time for the current administration to step up their game. To be totally clear, our families’ views have nothing to do with my employment or any other previous employees at Legacy. We were under the impression that our mom would get the same loving care that residents received when I was there. We were 100% wrong. Do your homework. A nice building is nothing more than a nice building. Search out a community that will show love, concern, and have a staff that demonstrates that caring nature when family in, and is not in the building.

My father just spent his first week living at Legacy at Maiden Park in Rochester, NY and we couldn't be happier. Dad is 97 years old and needs a lot of support to get through the day. His aides at Legacy reflect caring and competence as they assist him throughout the day with tasks such as dressing, bathing, eating, and grooming. Every aide we've met has been kind, patient, and friendly. They encourage Dad to take part in daily activities and engage him in conversation. He never feels like a burden, rather the staff makes him feel appreciated and important. The directors and nursing staff are easy to reach and very supportive. The residence is clean and attractive, more like an upscale hotel than an assisted living facility. Thank you Legacy for making dad's move to assisted living a great experience!

My Aunt Clara lived at The Legacy at Maiden Park for 4 years. It was her home. She had many friends, staff and residents alike. Toward the end of her stay when her health began to deteriorate, they went above and beyond to enable her to remain there. It was a sad day for all when she had to move. The Legacy may be a business, but it is a business with heart. Our family is forever grateful for all they did for Aunt Clara.

My mom has been at Legacy At Maiden Park for 10 months. Mom is comfortable and happy in her new community. Seeing her happy takes a huge burden off of me, as well as how ALL the staff that warmly welcomes us every time we go to visit mom. Communication with administration and staff is 100% and that is a huge plus. Mom is not treated like a patient, she is treated with compassion and friendship. Mom refers to the employees as her friends and smiles when she talks about the conversations she had with them. All the socializing and friendships created is what has made mom refer to Legacy as home. That alone, is what makes me recommend Legacy at Maiden Park.

I had no experience in memory care facilities before finding Legacy at Maiden Park. Jak and the staff made the transition easy for everyone. Perfect fit for my cousin. He has made many friends and enjoys the daily activities. I highly recommend this facility to anyone. Robert VanWuyckhuyse

My mother, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, moved to the Legacy at Maiden Park earlier this year. The personal attention she has received and the holistic approach to care has served to greatly enrich her life. The spirit of joy and generosity that the personnel at Maiden Park bring to their roles creates this wonderfully compassionate community where residents thrive. I have often witnessed tender moments when a staff member has brought comfort, reassurance or a smile to a resident who was having difficulty. These instances of personal and genuine care for the well-being of each individual are not exceptions, but rather they reflect the ethos within the Maiden Park community. Within the Enhanced Assisted Living program where my mother resides, the staff demonstrate in every interaction tremendous respect for the humanity of each individual. Their kindness and patience towards all those in their care is a testament to an innate compassion and personal commitment that the Caregivers possess. Maiden Park offers a variety of high-quality opportunities for socialization, entertainment, physical exercise and mental stimulation. The Activities Team engage with the residents in a warm and personal way and inject enthusiasm into every activity. Together, the Maiden Park staff create a caring home and community and, for the residents' families, the assurance that our loved ones are in good hands. I extend my gratitude to Greg Ranieri, Executive Director, to his management team, and to all the caregivers and support staff who offer so much of themselves to provide for the needs of our loved ones at Maiden Park.

Jak and the staff have continued to go above and beyond the level of care that we expected for a memory care facility. I would highly recommend Legacy at Maiden Park to anyone considering a care facility for your loved one

The Legacy at Maiden Park has been a Godsend for my father. We were very worried when we discussed with my Father his need for assisted living, as we weren't sure how he'd react. When we took him to visit the Legacy, he told us he really liked what they had to offer, and was ready to try it. Months later I can tell you he's doing fantastic!! He loves the three meals a day, the health care provided, and the numerous activities the Legacy offers every day. The best part for him is the social interaction he's getting that he simply didn't get while he was at home. Greg, and the entire staff of the Legacy have been wonderful to my Father, they made this huge life adjustment for him occur rather seamlessly. I couldn't be happier with our choice of the Lagacy at Maiden Park for my Father, as we know he's in good hands!!!!

My mom was there from June 2018 to May 2020. Lots of kinks in communication and service caring since over 30 original staff and admin members either resigned or were let go when Legacy changed hands. Social Worker, Sales Rep, Nursing Director, Business Manager, Admin Director, and lots of excellent nurses and aides. My mom was moved from assisted living to the memory care section of Maiden Park in January 2019, around the time the mass exodus happened. Although it was the correct place for her to be, the care there was not as good as in assisted. Part of that was due to the ridiculous changeover of staff for reasons not told to families. Way too much and too fast for the place to keep up and properly train aides, nurses, and admins. The communication problem between aides and nurses as well as to families did not help. I changed my rating at the time from 5 to 3 because of this. I am hoping things have gotten better as there were some good, qualified people there. My mom is now at Wegmans Family Cottages at Park Ridge... had to move her in middle of pandemic in May 2020. She is in a much better qualified place now, where they know and understand Dementia.

I thank them all for sharing Moms final days with her when due to Covid we couldnt. God Bless you all.

My Mother spent her last year here, and has very recently passed away. I will admit that it was a rocky start. My Mother could be challenging . But I must say that I will always have love for the Legacy staff at Maiden park. If you are looking for glamour , then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a place that truly cares for the residents then you have found it. Its not perfect, but they listen to you , and fix mistakes immediately when its brought to their attention. The administration, and nursing staff are wonderful to deal with. I want to personally thank Liz, Ashley, Laurie, and Lisa for their love and support. It is true that the turnover for the aides can be high, but that is pretty common for this field. Their is a solid foundation of aides though that were there the whole time, and touched my Moms heart as well as my own. Christine, Madison, Tamara, and Laura to name a few. The kitchen staff went above and beyond to try to accommodate my Moms special requests. A special thanks to Ceecee and Patty Jo as well. You have a good thing going there , and you will forever be in my heart. ~Debra Pifer and family

Im writing a review on behalf of my grandfather and family. In January, we toured Legacy at Maiden Park and had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca, who works in admissions. I cant say enough kind words about her! Rebecca provided comfort during a difficult period for our family. She and Lisa took time with us and answered all of our questions about enhanced assisted living. They helped us navigated the paperwork and get grandpa moved in smoothly. The staff was warm and inviting. They helped make the transition smooth by getting to know our family and giving my grandpa the extra attention he needed at that time. Since then, grandpa has gotten acclimated and become comfortable in his new home. The routine and Daily Schedule provided really helps. My grandpa enjoys music, exercise and happy hour (with real beer) on Fridays. He eats meals and socializes with the same group of men each day. There is no perfect facility, but when weve had questions or minor concerns the staff has worked quickly to communicate with us and resolve any issues. Liz Richardson, the director, is very approachable and eager to help. Shes quick to schedule meetings, talk to families and follow-up afterwards. There are many wonderful employees, starting with the ladies at the front desk. Ive had the most interaction with Kelly and Wendy. They are friendly, professional and always happy to lend a helping hand. My grandpas charge nurse, Ashley is wonderful. Shes kind, easy to talk to and very competent. The activity director is very sweet with the residents. She takes time to engage with each and every one of them. Omani, in the dining room speaks kindly to the residents and does her best to meet their ever changing requests. There are countless other aids and workers with whom Ive had positive interactions. On behalf of my grandfather and family, Id like to thank each and every one of you who work hard at a difficult job. You truly make a difference in the lives of the residents at Legacy. Thank you!

We chose Legacy at Maiden Park because they met all of our needs. My family member has been there for awhile now. Its a wonderful community. When you walk in, there is a sense of peace and you just feel like youre at home. It is bright and cheery and has a lot of character throughout; its very warm and welcoming. My family members room is spacious and she was able to decorate it just the way she wanted it, which was very important to her for it to feel like home. The staff are wonderful! They do everything to meet the families needs, and they are willing to work with you in any way if you need to adjust to anything. They arent just working there, they are creating and sustaining a genuine home-like atmosphere, and that can be seen in the faces of the residents and the staff. They all go above and beyond in their roles. I couldnt ask for more.

As a Senior Living Advisor, I highly recommend Legacy at Maiden Park, to families who are looking for a clean and modern community, with a professional care staff, who can treat residents with enhanced care needs. I had the opportunity to visit Legacy at Maiden Park recently, for lunch and a tour. I was impressed from the moment I parked my car. The community is new and has the look of a high-end lodge. Entering the building, I noticed it was crisp and clean, the staff was friendly and Rebecca, who showed me around was professional and quite knowledgeable. The residents were out and about, engaged in activities, or being tended to by a care giver. I chose the chicken pot pie for lunch. It was hot and delicious; a meal I have not forgotten. In touring the community, there was ample space to roam inside and out, from game-rooms to courtyards. The apartments were spacious, with various layouts and backdrops to choose from. Overall, I was highly impressed and wouldnt hesitate to recommend this community to anyone. Additionally, I believe they are the best value in town! A family that I recently referred to the community, reported how impressed she was with the community, as well as the Community Relations Coordinator, Rebecca, who educated her on how the community could accommodate the needs of her loved one, who suffers from dementia. She answered all of her questions and gave her peace of mind. Needless to say, the family found their match, at Maiden Park. I will continue to recommend Legacy at Maiden Park, as the families that I have referred thus far have nothing except positive things to say!
