CARE ONE RESIDENT AIDE LUCSON BONTEMPS On an early Wednesday in September, Care One in Wayne ran its first" formal Senior Prom night", from 3 to 6, in deference to those of us who don't drive at night anymore. On Wednesday morning the Staff could step back and admire the months of planning and effort. In the afternoon they joined the residents and their guests, dressing in their finest. There was a party feeling in the air at Care One. Me? I was fumbling. unsuccessfully. to button my collar when two big, black hands came over with my shoulders, tucking down my collar. A moment later, a knotted tie dropped over my now buttoned collar. Once again, Lucson Bontemps, an aide to the residents, was there. Helping me into my coat, he stepped back and admired his work. A warm feeling went through me because Lucson Bontemps has been giving me help from his heart since I came to Care One the week before the Senior Prom. He anticipated the events I should consider, what overlaps to dodge, who to cultivate. Indeed, he knows what I don't know. A licensed accountant, circumstance redirected his desire to help people with financial issues to help people with health issues. Watching Lucson, it appears to me that efficient professional service and the training is made easier by an unconscious willingness to care for people who can't care for themselves, no matter how distasteful the task – or unpleasant the resident. CARE ONE My family researched a number of Assisted Living places that I couldn't visit, so Care One is the only one I saw. The front desk had business cards for decision makers! Bright, large apartments, modest apartments as well, areas for both privacy and group activities. We have a large deck open to trees, sunshine and with the overhang, a place to enjoy the rain. It is a still place for reading or meditation. The chefs work to enhance the food, the activities staff are imaginative in devising entertainment. Every day I see staff or residents unconsciously demonstrating personal care. The aides, whether hurrying along or are busy, generally show an underlying care by stopping and helping, taking a moment they will make up in performing their professional tasks. Care One best met our criteria: support when needed, training and every morning two physical therapy groups are on the morning schedules under "Move It, Shake It, Lift It" they facilitate the residents' progress through different care levels - less care needed, lower cost while safety is ensured. Care One is well equipped to provide assisted living and the occupational and physical therapy on the floor for assisted living residents. Every morning has an hour of televised exercise but I go to the therapy room for over an hour of exercise with dedicated, trained staff. Today, aides continue to help me when I need it while pressing me to do everything I can do myself. It is people like Lucson Bontemps, who met me on my first day, giving care every day that makes Care One a comfortable, secure home for me.

Care One came highly recommended to me for my mother's care following extensive surgery after breaking her foot on a visit from Florida! The staff, from the sunny greeting at reception, to the aides, physical therapists, nurses and administration all gave my mother excellent care! The aides are compassionate and addressed any concerns my mother and I had. The physical therapists worked as a great team, being my mother's best coaches to get her moving and her best cheerleaders to keep her optimistic and motivated for the 9 weeks on her healing journey. The nurses really made a point to get to know my mother – doing all the "basic" medical care, as well as top notch wound care every single day. These nurses were so familiar with my mother, they anticipated her needs before she voiced them. As her daughter, I dealt with the administration who are knowledgeable, dedicated and caring. We were in unusual circumstances, as my mother fell in NJ but lives in Florida. My mother was anxious to get back home, the social worker and administrator worked with me to facilitate getting her home without making me feel under pressure to get a flight and get out. We had plenty of time to arrange transportation and wheelchair/walker as needed. Whenever I had a question or needed a situation addressed, Daniel and Leeah, were well informed and passed information on to me quickly and efficiently. Care One at Wayne is a clean rehab center with dedicated, very caring and attentive staff. My mother felt comfortable and taken care of – body, mind and soul - with every member of the staff that took care of her on her. These physical therapists, aides and nurses are "angels in blue uniforms" according to my mother and I agree! I highly recommend!

My brother stayed at the Care One facility in Wayne for over 1 year. The care he received was less than acceptable. Typically management and staff did not respond to numerous telephone calls nor were they available on personal visits. On the day that my brother passed away I visited him in his room at about 11 am - he was what appeared to be sleeping with his eyes and mouth open but he was breathing but in distress. I tried to find a nurse or any staff member to look in on him but to no avail. I left the facility in complete distress over the lack of personnel response. I received a telephone call at 8:30 that evening saying he passed away. Two days later Care One withdrew $10,000 from my brothers personal checking account. They claimed it was pre-authorized. I did not know that you could withdraw funds from a deceased persons checking account. I tried to call to get information especially from billing and as usual no telephone call was returned. Furthermore, no calls or letters of condolences were offered to date for a person who passed away three weeks ago. There are a few good staff members, Marion and a few nurses in particul;ar, but I found Care One, in the end, cared more about money then the persons condition. I would not recommend placing your loved one in this facility.

This post is posted on behalf of Joann and Frank Muscara, My wife was here for therapy. It felt like she was on vacation. We loved the food choices as well as the activities that were held every day. The favorite activities pertained to live performances and karaoke. It was great to have these activities after a long day of therapy. They had an Italian night themed dinner that was FANTASTIC! It had a live accordion player and the food was amazing! Our therapists Sarah and Carolyn were spectacular. They went above and beyond and truly care about the patients. Dolly was an amazing assess to the team. She was always cheerful and eager to help out. Karan at the front desk was always greeting us with a smile. Everyone on staff was very upbeat and positive. Always greeted us with a smile and it made the experience that more special.

I agree with past reviews that this place seems very quick to want to kick patients out. I did feel the PT was good and mom made progress here (after a short stay in the hospital for broken hand). However, I did not feel she was ready to be discharged and the PT person also seemed concerned about where mom was going. I emailed the social worker and the Dir. of Admissions, but was told "medicare has strict guidelines.". I also spoke to the social worker in person who eventually told me I could appeal the case, but by that time, the arrangements had been made to move her back to her assisted living. Also, the AL had agreed after evaluation that they could take her back, which I was surprised, but they told me there were things they could do to "ensure her safety." Long story short, within 48 hours, mom fell and broke her right clavicle which really has set her back to this day. I even wonder if mom broke it before she left as she was complaining about pain, and maybe that is why CareOne was so intent on discharging her - so that they would not be blamed. I will add that I did think mom's nurse was very nice, but it seemed they were short staffed. It seems to be a common problem. Mom did enjoy her roommate which was good. This place has that smell and I noticed a dirty latex glove under the heater. When I mentioned it to the staff that it had been there for a week, the next time I went back, it looked like it was just shoved further under the vent. So, not the best in terms of cleanliness.

My mother was admitted to the care one at Wayne in the rehabilitation facility after being discharged from the hospital. She received excellent care from all the staff and I'm so happy she had an opportunity to get better under there care. I would recommend this to anyone who is contemplating a rehabilitation facility

My experience here at CareOne at Wayne has been a truly pleasurable one.The staff is totally committed to their patients. They are always pleasant, totally knowledgeable and dedicated to their patients. Each department from the knowledgeable nursing staff, to the incredible certified nurses aides, to the talented culinary services and kitchen staff, to the superior physical therapy department, to the fun and interesting activities department--each department excells in their area of is expertise. Care One Wayne is one of the best skilled nursing homes in the area. My grandma became ill and was hospitalized, we were recommended Care One at the hospital for rehab. My grandma was very scared, due to the short staffing issues we have heard about at all nursing homes. When she arrived she was greeted by Nurse Victor (who looks more like a line backer than a nurse.) Nurse Victor greeted my grandma with the biggest smile and immediately broke the ice with a funny nursing home joke. He was very professional and explained the process to us step by step. My grandma called him a big teddy bear, but later became a little upset when she was told he will not be her everyday regular nurse. Most of the other nurses were professional, but way too serious and were in and out of the room. The Rehab team was phenomenal, especially Hazel who always has a smile on her face. My grandma was very happy with the care received at care one, and she would come back again if she had to. Thank you Care One Wayne! Keep up the good work.

The staff and therapists are attentive, patient, and genuinely care for the residents. The food is amazing, and Chef Barry's menu delights my mom every day. Our family had to put our sister into a Assisted living facility and only had a few days to make a decision. Care One and especially the director of Nursing was so amazing. They were very attentive to our questions and patiently explained the process. My sister was just moved from the hospital to care one and she has been treated amazingly so far. Where do I start when it comes to CARE ONE AT WAYNE. My mom was there for 3 months almost. They are our NEW found family! My family LOVES them so much for being apart of my mothers healing process. When my first came to the facility, she did not want to be there. Eventually, overcame that with the help of EVERYONE at care one. They were SO Attentive, Supportive, Kind, willing to help, Professional, and emotionally there too. When my sister and I couldn't be there, they made sure to let her know she wasn't alone and we appreciate them so much!! We love you care one!

My father spent at least 6 months at this facility up until his recent passing. The staff in both the rehab(where he initially was) and assisted living were amazing. We could not have asked for better care for him, especially as he approached his end of life. The one thing he did complain about was that the food was not good.

My husband was at Care One for over 2 weeks. The staff was so Efficient, kind, helpful, professional. The lines of Communication was top notch. After coming from the hospital were their was absolutely no communication. Social worker, speech therapist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, nurses were always available to provide information. My mother is there now for post Covid Care and I have to say that if I were in the state I would be physically there to ensure her care was better. She was left unattended and asking for water for three hours, after which an aide yelled at her and tossed a chair. They ignore the call buttons, especially overnight. And they do not inform the patients of information around their ability to have visitors-quarantine policies nor has my mother been given her actual PT goals that would enable her to go home. Keeping patients in the dark feels like a money grab in my opinion. The highlight is that apparently the physical therapists are good. But they are not the ones responsible for overnight care or making sure patients are safe and cared for. CareOne, you clearly have a staffing problem that includes lack of communication and compassion for the patients. Figure it out and fix it.

I cannot say enough for the outstanding treatment I received from everyone there. Although there are too many to name individually, admissions,office staff, social worker,doctors,physician assistant,nurses,CNAS, NPs, PT,OT,aides, and anyone who provided me with excellent, attentive care were true professionals. They all took part in helping to get me healthy,and definitely contributed to my recovery. The staff are all patient, compassionate, and very pleasant. My mom was brought to Care One from Morristown hospital for rehab from a terrible staph infection. Amy and Julius were absolutely amazing with her. They treated her like family, which meant so much to us in these difficult Covid times. Amy would check in with us on her progress and was so incredibly patient with her. I spent 6 weeks in rehab at CareOne, and want to commend the staff on how professional everyone was. I would like to mention I had two physical therapists assigned to me, Debbie and Julian, who were absolutely kind, considerate, and 100% knowledgeable, and they will get you back in action in no time. I also would like to mention my two nurses, Juri and Yakeesha, who treated all the patients kindness and concern. My two aides, Dolly and Jasmine, were also amazing... they used to say if you need anything, Ill be there!, and there they were! This is definitely a quality center, and I thank them all for helping me.

After several experiences with this Care One, I needed to finally write a review. First, the facility is excellent. It was clean, up to date, and accommodating. The staff from rehab to nursing is very attentive and always tried to brighten our day. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

The nursing staff and nurses aids are very good. The entertainment delay is excellent and far more compass and und than the administration. The admissions department doesnt know what they are doing and can be rude to part a lot. The main social worker unfortunately for residents and patients does not stand by the residents with administration and tries to give medical diagnoses of patients. It is a bad combination of the director of social work and the admin. I was in their rehab for a couple of months and only reviewed physical rehab four times. The physical rehab is horrible. It was useless. The nurses and aids are exce but they cannot help you receive rehab or talk to admissions. It is badly run by admiy and employs are in fear of their bosses. I would never recommend Care one AKA Care None

My experience at Care One of Wayne has been wonderful. I cannot express how good the care I received was. From nursing, aids, physical therapy and occupational therapy I can only say that it was outstanding. As for the food, I cannot say a single thing bad about it. The taste of the food and the variety were very good. If I were asked to recommend a rehab center, Care One of Wayne would be my only recommendation,

My father is there right now.....I had doubts....but they did everything that I asked for....I have the nurse practioners personal phone number...for any questions....I have conference call to discuss my Dad's progress....my advice is if you have an issue, speak to someone higher up, they will help you......Great facility.....I recommend them highly.

My 92 year old dad was admitted with pneumonia. The his nurse on the South side was Jen during the day. She was always willing to listen to my concerns. Twice reaching out to MD for medication changes. The rehab department was dynamic. Willing to change rehab times to allow for my dad to have all his needs met. During this time my family had an out of state vacation planned. We went knowing he would be in good hands. The physician assistant even gave me his private phone number. We returned home to find my dad independently walking with his rollator. Able to perform his daily routines by himself. A few days later he returned home to independent living.

Shout out to the staff at Care One Wayne. Thank you all for the kindnesses you extended to our sister during her two month stay with you. We appreciate the administration, nurses, PT personnel and the aides... all of whom went the extra mile.

Just want to thank all the staff at Care One for the great care they gave me the last couple of weeks. Was sad leaving today the many friends I made during my stay here but I will return when I am able to walk again to thank all that have helped me get to where I am today. God bless you all and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart.

Today was bittersweet... My last full day if PT and OT at Care One in Wayne New Jersey. I am so happy I am coming home on Monday, and although I will be given Home Therapy.... Nothing will compare to the compassion, commitment, hardworking individuals who make up the Physical Therapy Teams and Occupational Teams here at Care One. I would like to give a "Shout Out" to two incredible people who worked relentlessly with me for the past two weeks: Eric and Julius!!!! I also would like to send out a "Shout Out" to everyone affiliated with Care One in Wayne New Jersey! Ever since I arrived on Monday, November 4, 2013, I was treated by EVERY individual with best of care, with compassion and concern. I would highly recommend Care One to anyone in your family who ever needs a rehabilitation center without reservations!!! Thank- you Care One for the Excellent Care I have received!!!!! Bonnie Walsh
