My mother was just discharged from the Rehabilitation floor 2 days ago. Being a fairly new facility I thoughtshe was in great hands. Beautiful facility but it’s no different than most!!! I’m back at the er 2 days later!! Oh how I wish I took fmla from work to babysit while my frail 88 year old mother was there. If you don’t advocate for your loved one, expect minimal care. These aides do what is expected and that’s it. My mother was there 4 weeks; lost bout 5lbs.(which she could not afford!)Not sure where the gourmet/executive chefs were that they claim work there but they certainly weren’t making my mother’s nor her roommates meals! I wouldn’t feed that to my 3 dogs; always ice cold and less than appealingApparently, they are working on this. I got there one day after work, and my mother was sitting in a wheelchair just wanting to get into her bed. She was not able to do it herself and I don’t know how long she was sitting there. However, I went to get an aide and when they came in to put her to bed, she was soaking wet. I still wonder how long she would’ve sat there in a wet diaper had I not been there. So much more I could say about this place, but I hope you get the point! Definitely don’t ask the night nurse supervisor anything because he never seemed to have any answers. So here I am two days later in the ER with 100% blood not even in the urine, but that is the urine. Makes me wonder if there was any blood in the urine upon discharge. If your loved one has to stay here, please make sure you’re there on the daily and advocate for them! If you want updates, call or email the social worker otherwise, you will be in the dark!

So far, dad is having a great experience! He has aphasia and really can’t tell us what is happening however, I know his smile and he places his thumbs up often! He is very happy here! My most favorite thing about Livia is that there is a handwashing station On the first floor before, and after you come in, you can always wash your hands! What an important public health mechanism in place! We are thankful to the nurses and certified nurses aids, taking great care of my father!! One of the nurses that is has been exceptional is Joey B! Thank you! Thank you!

My dad was there a few years ago and we couldn’t say enough good things about Livia. This time we are very disappointed with the general care. The aids are inattentive and continually have excuses for why they are not providing even the most basic care. My dad was left in wet diapers all day until he wet through his clothes. If my dad buzzed to be changed the aids came in and told him they were busy. After two weeks of complaining and having diaper change added to his medical plan he was still not being changed and developed a rash and sore. Totally unacceptable care of basic hygiene.

My mother has been there for a few months now. We were very nervous as there are so many stories about poor care in other places. She was at a fancy assisted living nearby but the assisted care she was paying for there was extremely disappointing and her health suffered because of it. She is completely mentally competent and fully aware but she has substantial physical issues that require more care. I felt compelled to give this review because it has been such a positive experience moving to Livia. She is so happy and we are impressed with the quality of care they give. The employees are very well trained but they are also compassionate, kind and attentive. The place is run very well. The Physical Therapy is the best she has received in her life. It has been truly life changing. She was completely bed ridden for over a year and received a lot of PT with little to no improvement. However, the PT at Livia is noticeably different. Here the amazingly talented therapists actually have her walking a bit again already! They also are kind, patient and effective. She feels such a sense of accomplishment and claims they are world class therapists. The chef Merv has also been so amazing. She is a picky eater with many food allergies and dislikes but he sat with her and checked in with her repeatedly until they mutually found the best menu for her. He even went out of his way to actually check on her to get feedback so he can tweak things until she was happy. She is now very happy with the food and appreciative he would take such time and effort to make sure she was happy. She thinks his cooking is excellent. We did not even get such attention at the assisted living. There are too many amazing people working there to mention but Marie the nurse on the third floor is just the best we have ever encountered. The care and attention she has gotten at Livia has improved her health overall and this includes spirits as well. She is genuinely happy and we can see it. It was a hard decision to leave assisted living but sometimes you have to face the fact that more care is more important. Livia has been a positive experience and a great choice. It has given her and our family such a sense of relief and appreciation.

I love that every area has it's own outdoor space, except for the sub-acute rehab, which makes sense. My husband has been in two other facilities for rehab after hospital stays and this is by far the best. I especially love that when you leave your room, you are in an activity area instead of an institutional hallway. So different from another facility that felt like a prison with the cell doors open. That facility, which I shall not name, the staff looked like they were serving a prison sentence. The staff at Livia really cares and tries hard to accommodate special requirements. The chef even came in on his day off to review a dietary issue with me. The location worried me, being off two main roads, but inside, you don't feel that. The views are of nature, lots of trees. I highly recommend Livia.

As a social worker in the senior care realm, it means a lot when a family member doesn’t about the good care their dad receives at Livia. I recently had a client at Livia and our Homewatch CareGivers of South Orange aides spoke highly about the cooperation and care provided by Livia staff. That’s a real plus!!

I am a musician and I perform at a number of senior living and rehabilitation facilities across New York and New Jersey. I play shows on a monthly basis at Livia in East Hanover NJ and I would like to mention Anthony Smith, Lifestyle Engagement Director. I find him to be upbeat and professional. Anthony’s more engaged and present than others I have worked with in the field. He’s a great communicator and a really nice person.

I am writing on behalf of my mother Maureen P. Who stayed at Livia during the month of February 2026. We can not say enough wonderful things about Livia Rehabilitation Services. The experience was exceptional, and much of that is thanks to the incredible staff. The Activities Director, Anthony, was absolutely amazing. He professional, organized, and genuinely caring. The programs were thoughtfully planned and engaging, and you could clearly see how much heart and dedication went into everything. It made such a positive difference in the overall environment. The chef also deserves special recognition. The meals were not only delicious, but clearly prepared with care and attention. It’s rare to see such pride and professionalism in every detail. The kindness and courtesy shown by both the kitchen staff and leadership did not go unnoticed. It’s comforting to know that there are facilities where compassion and professionalism go hand in hand. Thank you for creating such a warm, respectful, and uplifting atmosphere.

Livia was the best Rehab facility we found for mom when we needed one last year. This is her second stay with them and we loved it so much that we all decided it was also the best for mom now that she has to transition to assisted living care. The staff is amazing, the food smells amazing and best of all mom is happy with her day to day activities. The only thing we can find fault with is as the family and visitors coming to visit a vending machine for coffee/tea/soda/juice and snacks would be such a great addition because when we come visit we have to always remember to bring something with us to sit and chat with her. And we do stay long. Besides that we have nothing else we can complain or request for anyone coming to stay with Livia. It's so beautiful and it doesn't feel like a hospital stay at all it feels like home.

My 98 year old Mom was recently admitted to hospice care @ Livia. She was there for 10 days before she peacefully passed. She was treated with dignity and respect. I am grateful to those who cared for her, especially her nurse, Fanny. Fanny is an outstanding dedicated nurse that was on duty during some of the most difficult moments we had to face. She consistently delivered compassionate care despite working double shifts and a full census. She never waivered and we were blessed with her being present when my Mom passed. As a physician, I was able to recognize how difficult her job was and impressed at how easy she was able to handle the most difficult situations. I am glad that my Mom's last days were at Livia and that staff helped me provide my Mom with the best possible care.

Livia is a terrible health care facility. The nurses and aides are incompetent, lazy, have cavalier attitudes often bordering on arrogance, especially when dealing with sickly patients/residents. In other words they just don't care about the residents that count on them for help. My family member was in there for 5 days. I took her out on the fifth day because they would not bathe her or change her dirty diaper until I insisted through the head nurse (who should be fired). They just hire the wrong people with bad attitudes. The staff are not trained property. If you love your sick family member don't send them there. The NJ state Department of Health should close them down.

Terribly managed in my opinion as a professional manager. Many staff don’t seem to want to be bothered or have a poor attitude. Difficulty finding a nurse or doctor when needed and institutionally they don’t do a great job coordinating with family. Physically the place is rather cold and antiseptic. Two good points, PT/OT seems good overall and the Director of Social Work is excellent. My family member has moved to another facility which is must better run.

The only reason I gave it a 3 is because it’s new and clean, doctors and therapists are good but they are very understaffed and the staff they do have act like they don’t want to be there. I get it not the most pleasant place to work but if you are not compassionate about the elderly get a new job. My mother had to go for rehab after having pneumonia I am so sorry I let her go when she didn’t have pt or ot she is left in her wheelchair to sleep. When I asked them what happens at night if she gets out of bed to go to the bathroom and falls they said it’s not a hospital no bed alarms or bed bars. Ask any questions they tell you I don’t know I just got here or I’m not assigned to her. They need cameras so they can see just what the staff is doing (or not doing) thank God I’m here to dress and undress and help my mom eat. If this is one of the better places I hate to see the rest of them. If possible take care of your loved ones at home

Well about a year ago I was told that I needed to get an ankle fusion resulting from a break about seven years ago. My surgeon from Columbia Presbyterian said we was going to put me in a sub acute rehab following the surgery. So I started to visit/tour rehab centers near me. I selected LIVIA Health & Senior Living, East Hanover, NJ about 10 minutes from my home. I have been here for just under a month and am leaving tomorrow to continue my recovery at home. I am so glad I chose LIVIA ... They prepared me to be able to go home safely; their people are fantastic (this evening I watched a nurse feed a quest who was having difficulty ... did not know a nurse would do that); helped me learn how to shower being non-Weight bearing - one leg only; showed compassion for all guests; provided a new, bright and very clean facility; and provided Occupational and Physical Therapy for guests. The food - good don't expect 5 star dining but it was good and they will get you more if you want it.. Bottom line, again I am very glad that I chose LIVIA and if you are recovering from injury or have a family member that needs special care this a facility you should consider.

I have been in Health care for all of my professional life, most of which as a Hospital CEO. I have seen dozens of Long Term Care and Rehab facilities. My 99 year Mother has been a patient at Livia for almost 2 years. I could not be more pleased with the care rendered by the staff from health care aides, nurses and rehab staff. Their expertise and their genuine concern for my Mother is extraordinary. The facility itself is quite unique in that it is more like a hotel rather than a Nursing Home. It is attractive and well maintained. The overall staff from reception to maintenance are wonderful. I live nearby so I am there often and am hard pressed to come up with any criticism. Having my mother at Livia has provided me with a great feeling knowing she is well cared for, safe and loved. Jeff Moll

My mother has been a resident for 1 1/2 years. If your loved one needs a level of in patient nursing care, Livia is a good choice. There are some great people who work there and truly care about the residents and families. To name a few, Audrey, one of the CNAs, is able to understand my Mom's needs despite my mother's communication challenges and is a godsend to me. Tamika at the front desk, and Yvonne, nursing unit clerk, have gone above and beyond to provide support. Abby, the concierge, is not only helpful, but always has a smile for everyone. Jessica the speech therapist never gave up on my Mom and was instrumental in helping her progress from the feeding tube to eating all types of foods. The activities team - Anthony, Xena, Hannah, Courtney - go beyond leading activities and have developed bonds with the residents. Nursing supervisor Shanae is very responsive and easy to work with. Night Nurse Ed is a solid nurse and always friendly. Social director Precious coordinates festive dinners/brunches for holidays that are truly special. Even the custodial staff go out of their way to interact with the residents (shout out to Michael!). Livia is a beautiful facility, one that guests of residents like to visit. For the most part, the food is very good and varied. In fact, we used their chef to cater my Mom's birthday party, held in the Bistro at Livia. Livia, like all nursing facilities, is not perfect. There are staffing issues - particularly on weekends and holidays - and staff turnover. Not all of the nurses/CNAs bring their A game to each shift. I often have to follow up numerous times on requests. But on the whole, Livia is a solid nursing facility

On Livia's brochure it says "Livia, a higher level of care and support" [and they are not kidding!] From the first day I was there I was introduced to Paul, Anthony and Cortney. They gave me a slip of paper with all the activities to choose from for the day. This didn't feel like a rehab place, it felt like a cruise ship. You have a friendly aid that helps you 24/7. If you need any help you just press the little red button by your bed and they come to you. The food has an amazing chef and the meals are delicious! He aims to please! And he does! If you ever need any care give them a call! They'll be glad to see you.

Responsive time for someone to help you is terrible. Entertainment is wonderful, I can say they keep you busy and are wonderful people. Most of the staff are nice but some are really mean and I will just keep reporting them to a supervisor. I have to revise my original post. I have come back for a second time and am now on the third floor north. Going home soon. I must say my experience here has been wonderful. The nurses on this floor are caring, helpful and supportive. Especially Joanne and Roland. Even though some of the nursing assistants on the other floor were good, the ones on the third floor were excellent. Thank you for singing Lorraine. Sorry I don’t remember everyone’s name. The midnight shift were also the best. I can say the physical therapy is the best you are going to get. Darren, Maria, Jason Amanda. Lindsey, Yuma. Sorry if I left anyone out. I am walking again thanks to you. Now entertainment is really great. Anthony you always made my day better. And also thank you Paul and Courtney. They will keep you busy. I have been here for about a week and half. Supposed to be on rehab floor 2 but put on floor 3 with mostly nursing home patients who were noisy into midnight outside my room and unable to get rest or sleep. Transferred to floor 2 in shared room with another patient who talked in sleep and was so depressing asking God to just take her because she wanted to die. Heard this day and night. She never was quiet Then nurse would bring in meds at 5:00 am and wake me up so again no sleep. Their kitchen sends up food either I cannot eat or missing utensils or anything to drink. Or cold when it should be hot. Three mornings of dry bagels with one pat butter. Had to butter it with spoon handle Due to aide removing tray with knife on it. Had to call down to kitchen but they never pick up the phone then I get disconnected. I have a fungal infection that the womb team prescribed anti fungal cream for. The nurses cannot find it so my fungus is getting worse instead of better. The doctor comes to see me and says she’s putting in an order for certain medications to be given at certain times yet nurses say it’s not on their computer so I don’t get it. The bedroom is like a sauna and no one knows how to lower the temperature on thermostat. What a way to curtail spread of germs. I complain but nothing is ever done. Some of the aides are very nice and gentle when changing bed pads and diapers and others just don’t care if they are rough when washing you up. I came here in better shape than I am now and thinking I should just sign myself out to go home and pay an outside service to continue my care. Not happy at all with this place and would not recommend it to anyone needing care or rehab after surgery.

My 105 yr old Uncle Walter was a residents there and 1 day my beautiful Aunt or myself will be. So far, all of the facilities food I've hear doesn't taste good. It's NEVER going to be like home. So you guys have to bring us stuff

This is the worst facility ever. NURSES NEVER RESPOND TO THE CALL BELL. Food was crappy and cold and you never got to pick what you’d like to eat. One nurses aid tried to take a picture on his own phone of medical documentation which is illegal .. never knew when her therapy sessions were I’m appalled at the horrible treatment my mother received

The Wagner family is grateful to Livia Health in East Hanover for helping Burk Wagner recover from his stroke. His nurse Geraldine Cherry and physiotherapist Jason were particularly outstanding in their professionalism, cheerfulness and kind care. --Anton Wagner (Burk's brother)

Priscilla at the nurse's station and Millie and Alex at reception are helpful. Justin, the physical therapist, is a ray of light. It's difficult to get through to a person at the nurse's station via phone. Billing is messy. Breakfasts are good. Lunches and dinners aren't so good. The quality of the aides and physical therapists varies. The building is nice.

I arrived at livia unable to walk no more than 30 feet post cervical spine surgery. My primary therapist were Annie for P.T and Vicky for O.T, both were absolutely amazing. At the conclusion of my three week stay Vicky had help me increase my hand strength from 15 to 50 and Annie had me walking up and down six flights of steps twice a day. Annie and Vicky are professional, understanding, empathetic and caring. I must mention Stacy and Aimee who on occasion filled in for Annie and Vicky. The Nursing and Cna staff were fantastic Rolland , Maria and Shanae were patient and extremely caring during their shifts they were always available. Dr Fried would see me at least three times a week to keep me updated on my medical progress he to was very courteous and thorough and spoke to me in a manner that I could understand, the whole medical staff was great. I could not have gone to a better facility, the food was good ,the rooms are a nice size and the outdoor sitting area is very nice there are also daily activities directed by Anthony when you are not doing therapy Anthony will keep your day filled with fun activities . Overall my stay at Livia was rewarding and I am very happy my wife found this facility for my rehabilitation needs . Thank you Annie and Vicky for giving me my life back.

I can't say enough about our experience at Livia. From Admissions to nursing to activities and even housekeeping, every staff member we've encountered were extremely pleasant, caring and accommodating. My 98 year old grandmother was treated with love, respect and DIGNITY. Making the decision to have her reside there a little less stressful.

There are definitely more than 5 stars at Livia! The facility and the people have far exceeded the expectations of myself, my sisters and my mother who has been a resident at Livia for a year. My mother was not enthusiastic about moving out of her home of 50 years, but needed rehab from some physical issues she was dealing with last year. The facility is very clean, safe, and has several programs to engage the residents. Alex is smiling to greet you when you arrive. And Abby is a wonderful Concierge. There’s plenty for the residents to do - and Anthony has so much energy! Whether it be watching a movie in the theater room, bingo in the game room, playing poker in the bistro, listening to live music or enjoying Thirsty Thursday, Livia is always active and inclusive with Anthony leading the charge. The other lifestyle engagement staff members are terrific too - Precious, Z, and Paola are all unmatched. The staff is extraordinary! The nursing team of Shanae, Roland, Rose, Elsie, Sophie and Janis are very knowledgeable, well trained but mostly are loving and caring. When my mother had to be hospitalized for a short time, the staff sent my mother flowers and balloons along with a very heartfelt card. They dote on her and treat her like royalty. If my mom is even a little off, Shanae is quick to call one of us. Even if she isn’t paired with my mom one day, she makes a point to still visit her. The therapy team of Vikki, Jason, Jessica, Lisa, Emily and Becky are amazing. My mother is a double amputee and the therapy team had my mom able to get herself out of bed and in a wheelchair on her own! When she was recently in the hospital, she was able to get herself into a chair by herself. The nurse said she wouldn’t believe it if she didn’t see it with her own eyes. My mother started declining recently and the family was by my mother’s side. The therapy team bought pizza one day, a tray of sandwiches another day, fruit and veggie platters the next day. They all stopped in to see her and tell her how much she means to each of them. The fact that I know most of the staff by name and live a state away is a testament to Livia and how they run their facility. Even the maintenance team of Dave and Jeffrey are so friendly and extremely responsive to any issues. I highly recommend Livia to anyone who is considering them for rehab, assisted living or long term care. Best decision we made for our mom!

Our 80+ year old mom went for rehab at Livia in East Hanover for 2 weeks. There are so many positives about this place its hard to list them all. Livia made a bad situation much easier to handle. The rooms are clean and even the food was well prepared. Every staff member is friendly and accommodating. Anthony and Sarah, part of the lifestyles staff, would take our mom to listen to music and would even stop by just to talk and keep her company. Lindsey the occupational therapist, very patiently taught my mom how to safely perform daily activities. Lisa Marie the physical therapist, walked with my mom and taught her exercises to help gain her strength back. The Nurses and Aides were switched often so its impossible to remember everyone, but they were all friendly and helpful. Livia caters to each patient’s needs on an individual basis. We’d give them 10 stars if we could.

My Dad was just in here for 3 weeks for rehab. The place was brand new, spotless, odorless and bright and airy. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. More importantly they were friendly and smiling throughout the day, took time to talk to my father and us. Everyone on the 3rd floor rehab were great but especially Roland, Nadine, the morning aid Marie. Everyday I asked my Dad how he was being treated and he said great, very nice people. He loved the food and all of the physical therapists. Great place would highly recommend.

I have had the good fortune of rehabilitaion at Livia at East Hanover. I can't say enough about this facility. They pay attention to every detail a patient would want or need.. it is immaculately clean. There are activities geared to many tastes. The therapists are very competent and patient. And are your cheerleaders as you progress. There are many different areas with exercise equipment. There is a hair salon and a manicurist. Even the food is good! No institutionalized food. Much of it is home-made. The aides and nurses provide so much personal attention. Some of them really stand out like Rose, Elsie, and Lorna to mention a few. Therapists have helped me begin to regain my walking ability. Thank you Jason, Emily Genna Maria, Anne and Nick. Keep up the good work. You are the best. Carmela Marano Moeller

I came to Livia out of Icu at mountainside hospital for a recently discovered dx of myasthenia gravis. Before home i wanted to be as strong & capable as i could be. Livia is a beautiful facility with the convenience of home & more. Dr Orsini recommended to me & im so glad i went there. I was there for 2 1/2 weeks & from my excellent PT program with Nick & Marie to my OT program Lindsay & Emily my speech & swallowing therapist with her dog Ziti. Everyone Everyone Everyone from the nurses aides housekeeping anyone who provided a service was so knowledgable. And The food was excellent. If i didnt say your name im sorry but i will never forget any of you. This is the first time im happy to be home. Everything i learned far exceeds anything i imagined. Fortunately the meds im taking have gotten my muscles stronger & PT & OT did the rest. I have adapted living at Livia to home. I even had a birthday there & it was pleasant. I would highly recommend Your facility & staff. If the need ever arises i would not hesitate to come back. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you Karen Phillips

The food at Sycamore Living has been much better then the last 3 times I was here. 2 therapists who I had are excellent, Maria and Stephanie, they helped me get back on my feet and standing although I use a wheelchair. My cna who was helping me was Nodeline, she is amazing. Also a Lsia from activities is great, he was very instrumental in getting me involved in outside activities. Thank you all, please refer me to anyone who needs a feedback, I will gladly recommend this place.

When I arrived at Sycamore Living, I was actually dumped in bed and left alone for 10 minutes and at that point I wanted to go home. After 2 days I realized what a wonderful place that it is and the staff is beyond wonderful and caring, The nurse Shanade, nurse Roland, concierge Joanna. I can’t pick one person from Rehab because all of them are wonderful, Annie, Jessie, Lisa and Steff and not to be forgotten, Jason and Kyle. I think this place is wonderful and I would recommend it to everyone who needs rehab in this area. The only thing that needs improvement is food and food service.

My father was sent to sycamore after being hospitalized with covid. Everyone who we dealt with went above and beyond to help him. He received therapy daily, which he truly enjoyed, even though he was still COVID positive and his therapists were kind and helpful. We spoke to them and his doctors and nurses regularly. One of the greatest features at sycamore are the tablets in the rooms so you can use Alexa to drop in on your loved one at any time. If you have ever wondered what was going on in the nursing home this is your chance. And any time we dropped in there was a nurse or aid who was passing by the room, popped in to check something, or came to care for him. We could tell that he was being well looked after. He was hospitalized again and we chose to send him somewhere that had only one floor so we could visit him at his window. That was a terrible mistake. We were so disappointed with the other facility but didn’t want to put him through the trauma of a transfer. Unfortunately he ended up back in the hospital one last time before returning to sycamore. When he arrived there for the second time it was as if he were reunited with family. Everyone was so happy to see him again and have him back with them. When his doctors realized that there was no more they could do for him they very gently breached the topic with us. They provided my mother, brother and I with tyvek suits, masks, goggles and gloves so that we could at least spend his last days with him. This was the most compassionate act I could imagine. They clearly understood how devastating it was to lose a loved one after not being able to see him for months. And they found a way to make it work so that my father’s last days were spent with his loved ones. I am forever grateful to the staff and administrators of sycamore for their exceptional care of my father and their consideration of us.
