A beautifully renovated historic building, nestled on a scenic plot with great walking paths. The residents always seem happy and well cared for when I've visited.

Maggie and Hannah, and the staff at the facility are great! Very personable, friendly, and know their stuff. Seek out these professionals!

My family cant say enough good things about American House. Our father was very resistant to going to an assisted living home but this facility won him over. The building has historic charm and beauty and feels uplifting to be in, unlike many other dark and dreary homes we toured. There is a large dining area, social happy hour, puzzle room, theater and more. The resident rooms are spacious and in immaculate condition. All of that is great but the staff is really what gave us peace of mind. From the RNs and LNAs to the front desk receptionist and housekeepers, the staff are caring, accommodating, and attentive. They communicated with us constantly and were always happy to answer our questions. No request was too small or too inconvenient, they were there to help. We have met many residents who have been living here for many years and they all spoke so highly about how much they enjoyed living there. Thank you to EVERYONE for making American House a HOME for us.

Why are there NO ratings for 2025? Appears a lot of 2024 personal do not work there now?

Since arriving at American House in February 2025, we have been very pleased with the experience of this friendly community. The staff, from meal servers to the executive director are always there to help. They provide transportation, which is very helpful and entertainment which brings residents together. Fabulous experience here. I was new to Vermont from Florida. The entire staff was warm and welcoming. They did everything to make me comfortable. I would recommend American House to anyone looking for a lovely and inviting environment .

We can’t thank American House, Keene and the exceptional staff enough for the wonderful care and compassion given to our Mom over the last few years. From the moment she entered American House until her death, the staff went out of their way to really get to know our Mom and meet her every need. Mom always complimented the staff for their kindness. During her last 6 weeks of life, while on hospice, we stayed there all day and night and witnessed the amazing teamwork daily. Every interaction we experienced and witnessed with the residents was respectful and caring. As a retired Chief Nursing Officer, I can honestly say this facility is amazing in every way. It is clear that the leadership has created an environment that allows the staff in every department to provide the outstanding care it does to both residents and families. We remain forever thankful for the support during our Mom’s last weeks and highly recommend American House, Keene to anyone who wants the best for their family member.

I toured the Keene Independent Living facility, as part of a three-state exploration for a place for my Dad. Christy, the person who met with me and took me around was personable, knowledgeable about the facility and the Keene area, and patient with my many questions. I appreciated how American House used the historic building and found that the various common areas and amenities were well-appointed, comfortable, and clean. The residents I observed and met on my tour were obviously happy and engaged. Compared to other facilities I have visited in the Tampa area; Ann Arbor, Michigan; and nearby in Vermont, American House Keene's overall costs are somewhere in the middle range, with among the most-complete array of health and daily needs, social activities, and other amenities. Although my father is leaning toward a facility in Michigan for personal reasons, American House is among our top three choices.

We moved my 92-year old mother up to American House in Keene from her assisted living facility in Florida to be closer to family. I really cannot say enough about the caring staff, the clean and well-kept facility and the upbeat, engaging environment the staff provides for the residents. The staff took the time to get to know my mother, her preferred routines, what brought her pleasure and they were ever so patient with her moods. I visited her often and always felt welcomed. It has been a wonderful experience for what is an otherwise challenging time in a family’s life.

Do not send your loved one or yourself there! If you read the advertisement they claim there is medical staff on site at all times, this is not true! They fraudulently take thousands of extra dollars from the elderly each month for Assisted living services.Residents are paying for a service that is not being provided,a nurse. They recently (a few months ago) decided to do away with most of the nurses and in turn have resident assistants pass medications and be in charge overnight versus have a nurse on duty to save money. If a resident goes into cardiac arrest, the girl "playing"nurse who by the way has zero medical training will call 911.She will NOT start life saving tx.This is a matter of life and death. The resident assistants passing meds,(full med passes) are NOT med certified leaving plenty of room for medication errors.Dying patients are being medicated by NON nurses with morphine and other strong medications.Completely immoral and unethical. Also, only one nurse in the building from 2pm-10pm.This place has gone so far downhill.Short staffed so badly that the residents weekly showers are being skipped.People sitting in urine soaked clothing for hours.Do yourself and loved ones a favor and go to one of the other, better staffed, better management places in the area

We are amazed by the support not only for our mom but for us also. From our first tour to every time we visit the staff are welcoming. We know we have made the best decision to move her to an amazing facility that she now calls come. You are all fantastic at being so helpful and caring to all the staff and can see the love and commitment you have for the residents! Truly a beautiful and inspiring place. Well done!

Without a doubt, we landed on the best place for our mother! She has been happy and comfortable at American House of Keene, NH from day one! She tells me every day how kind everyone is and how much she enjoys the food, the people and the activities. I can finally sleep at night without any worry knowing that my mother is safe, happy and comfortable.

We could not have chosen a better place for our Mom to move to! The American House - Keene has provided our Mom with everything that she needs and has given her children a much sought after peace of mind! Right from the beginning, Jackie and Christy (the Admission team) patiently allowed us to ask questions and introduce our Mom to the opportunity of a change. When she was ready to move (living at home by herself was becoming challenging) the American House staff and administrators helped make the transition a joyous and welcoming one! By the end of the first week, every staff member knew our Mom by her name. Our Mom no longer has to worry about cooking, cleaning, laundry, driving to appointments, or even remembering her daily medicines. She eats every meal with friends and attends several engaging social activities each day (a significant difference from her lonely days in her house)! The American House staff have eliminated the worries and concerns that each of her children had on a daily basis. When we visit, our Mom introduces us to all of her new friends. When we call/email the American House staff, someone always gets back to us. Our Mom now refers to the American House as her new home.....that in itself speaks to her experience!
February 2023
My parents spent their final years at American House. They were already in their 90's when we moved them into what was at the time Bentley Commons. Their stays--my father died at 94 and my mother at 99--overlapped with COVID and an ownership change. The care my parents received was consistently excellent. Staff members were consistently empathetic and professional. Phone calls were returned quickly and staff members were always patient--even during the worst of COVID when there were staff shortages and nurses, aides, and others were understandably pulled in many directions at once. The staff managed COVID admirably in implementing strict protocols resulting in no major outbreaks of the disease. When conveying sad or bad news staff members were unfailingly graceful. A final note--the facility was always clean and neat. The decision to move my parents to American House was made on short notice and we had few options, so we took a leap of faith. The faith was justified.

They were absolutely wonderful the whole time my aunt was there....throughout the pandemic and everything. Couldn't ask for better staff. We appreciated everything they did for our aunt!
