Reviews The Birches at Concord
June 2023
Excellent facility for memory care family members. This is obviously an extremely difficult decision to make. Even pulling in overnight nursing and additional staffing in home reaches a point where you can no longer keep someone with memory issues safe. Cameras, alarms on doors, grip handles and ramps, elevated toilets, 3 shifts of staff coming in 7 days a week. We tried that, and staffing is inconsistent when going that route. To place your loved one in someone else's care when you can no longer look after them safely is a brutal decision point. This is one of the top facilities in the state. The staff does care. It's not ideal, but that's more because you have to entrust the care of your loved one to someone else. And that's a very hard decision. You'll know when you have crossed that bridge. If you're reading this, you have my sincerest compassion and empathy. You're not alone. Tour this facility and others before you make your decision as it's a big leap and it is not inexpensive. Although financially, it's less than pulling in overnight nursing and cobbling together around the clock care in home. Hope this helps!

My Mom had a comfortable and restful experience at The Birches during her final months of life. It is not inexpensive but it is good value for the service that is provided.

The Birches of Concord has done a fantastic job taking care of our family members during this pandemic! They were proactive early and are one of the few establishments that have had no resident positive cases. Families have a bi-weekly group zoom meeting with the Director and staff to give us all updates and answer questions that the families have. My mother has settled in very nicely and that is due in large part because of the care and compassion she gets from the staff. I count being able to have my mother at The Birches of Concord a blessing.

A little of a year ago my sister and I were tasked with the difficult job of researching a place for my father in the future .His dementia was getting worse and we knew this needed to be done .We visited many facilities in NH. deciding on the Birches was the easiest part. We were given a tour and graciously welcomed to the warm environment .After leaving we just had to look at each other and we knew we had hit the jackpot. We looked no further. The director at the time stayed in touch with us and checked on my dad often. We put him on the list immediately.Last summer when the time arrived to start the long, sometimes complicated process we were given so much support and understanding of what I difficult decision this was. This is when we met Sue ODonnell who could not have been more helpful if she tried .Sue became a new best friend as she cared so deeply about not only my dad but his family. We were facing many obstacles in order to accomplish this task. My dad was not aware and was never filled in on what was happening ,his wife was elderly as well and struggling with letting go, THEN you add COVID to whole mix !!My sister and I managed the entire process from different states each handling different aspects.Everyone on the Birches team worked with the situation and us to make this as smooth as possible given the circumstance. My dad arrived safely during the pandemic which made the Birches staff work even harden then normal to handle my dads arrival. We know that his first week was stressful and confusing for him and he received the utmost care and attention from the staff. They were in contact with us often and we knew that dad was in the best of hands. Now he has been there for over 4 months. He is smiling, making friends and enjoying activities I would never have imagined. He has settled in and seems happy to call it home.It went from being the hardest decision to the best thing we could have ever done and thats all due to the staff at the Birches !!! I never worry about my dad anymore and look forward to seeing the photos they and share the smile on his face when I visit. They have done a remarkable job during this pandemic which has been a challenge to say the least. Finally, if you are facing a decision like this I would recommend you look no further the the Birches if you have a family member that needs memory care. They are simply the BEST there is !Sincerely,Lynne Garvey

Today, August 1, 2019, marks two weeks since Jills arrival at The Birches at Concord. Everyone on the staff has been so kind and attentive to her needs, as well as making me, her husband of 57 years, very comfortable in this life-changing transition. Thank you.

I toured the Birches facility and grounds this past week in addition to two other residential facilities that say they can care for patients with dementia. No comparison! Everything about The Birches is designed to help patients with dementia live as fully as possible. It is quite a bit more expensive than the other places I looked at but you get much more for your money. When the time is right, I will definitely look to The Birches as a residence for my husband who has Lewy Body dementia

The Birches is an extremely special place. It focuses on care for those with cognitive issues and does so in a manner that is dignified, compassionate, positive and non-judgmental. Its small size means that each staff member personally knows each of the residents and genuinely cares about them. The staff is truly exceptional. They create a welcoming and fun environment, while providing top-notch care. It is a pleasure to walk through the doors of The Birches.
