My brother was a resident at The Cottages of Swansboro. The office staff and care team members were exceptional. They kept me informed and were diligent regarding his medical care and needs.

My dad moved into the Cottages June of 2024 at age 91 up until he recently passed. The Cottages were exactly what he needed. The small units provided more of a home feeling for his final years of life. The staff was great to him and treated him very well. My dad wanted to live by himself and not burden any of his children with his needs. I live nearby and usually made a few visits per week, the staff was always friendly and his unit was very clean. Laura was his primary unit (cottage) caretaker and did a great job. I recommend the Cottages if you are looking for a safe, clean and family style type assisted living for an elderly family member. Anna and Andrew run a nice place.

I walked in for information on a place for my mom and I was immediately greeted with kindness from the office staff. The energy of the room was very upbeat & positive and Rebecca the Resident care coordinator immediately acknowledged me and listened to my needs. I also met the owners Anna & Andrew who were very pleasant and they were able to answer all of my questions followed by a tour since I had the time. This place is very nice and cozy on the inside and from the outside it is very inviting. The residents and staff were very friendly and gave me a sense of comfort that if this would be my choice for mom that she would be very much welcomed in with open arms. So far so good!

I have had personal experience with Andrew & Anna at The Cottages of Swansboro. They went above and beyond to help my sister’s husband. The house is very clean and nicely decorated. It was well worth every penny. If you have ever experienced nursing facilities you would appreciate the care and atmosphere at The Cottages.

This assisted living center has to be one of the best places for families to send their loved ones. It's often our older relatives don't want to leave their home or lose their sense of independence and that's where the cottages come into play. It's a family / home vibe where each person has their own room, their own bathroom, and freedom to go on walks outside, hang out in common areas, or join in on the activities both in house and outings. I would recommend them to any and every one. You can tell it's a family owned establishment where they truly care about each and every person there.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience with The Cottages of Swansboro! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism. The staff were knowledgeable, Friendly, and genuinely committed to making sure i had a great experience.

My MIL was one of the original resident’s at the cottages in 2018 and was the last one to leave in May of 2025. There were good times and bad times. Red Flags -When I asked if rent would ever go up when we first toured the facility; the owner Anna said no but later would not put that in our contract. - MIL is missing more than half of her clothing including 4 AirTags that were purchased. I’ve been given no explanation and no one has reached out to rectify the situation. - They as in the owner and office manager do not responded to emails, even when asking for mom’s medication regimen and any documents related to mom’s needs when she departed the facility. My email was ignored and still is ignored. It’s almost been two months. - After my mil’s departure, the owners couldn’t be bothered to call, send a text or email to see how she was doing. Clearly, this shows it was and always will be about the money. - I purchased 20 poinsettias for Christmas time to have displayed at the Cottages, not one thank you from the owner’s. Nurse Nicki made sure to call and send a pic of the poinsettias being displayed. She was definitely running the Cottages. - I received a text message about being short $48 on rent. That is my fault, I understand a business is a business. My MIL has been paying for years. That was the last straw. The invoices were inconsistent. I would owe more but never owe less but when I would pay way over (hundreds of dollars), I would still need to pay more. - People that have no connection to the Cottages are even talking around town about how bad it is there. - Rent has been raised a few times over the last couple of years. In my opinion, you are paying more for what seems like the bare minimum compared to when they first opened their doors. Pros - When it came time to raise the rent due to inflation the first time, Anna and Andrew were understanding and kept my MIL’s rent the same with the understanding she would have sitters which was a significant extra cost. We were appreciative and made it work because at this point, she had gotten used to the routine and Nurse Nicki was amazing with her. However, rent was raised the second time, a percentage. It was enough for us to start to look around again outside of Swansboro. - Mom formed amazing connections and bonds with some staff and other residents. Nurse Nicki, Jessica K., Jennifer, Tameka, Savannah and Samantha were amazing with my MIL. They deserve raises! - The Cottages contracted Doctor, Dr. Amy; is great. She truly listening to my concerns and kept me informed of mom’s needs. Although, I am not sure if she is still contracted with the Cottages. I have always ignored past horrible reviews but I can confirm that some of my experience has been absolutely unacceptable. I have walked in on heated staff arguments. I have met with Anna with my husband and she is very kind to your face but beyond that, I cannot tell if it is genuine. Martial issues should be left at home and not brought to a place of business. I have been but dialed in the past and wow. Morale and happiness amongst the staff is at all time low. We started to notice this around year 3 & 4. Every-time we would go visit mom, I stopped letting the cottages know when we would show up or when we would have friends in the area show up. This is where it was witnessed aides FaceTiming people, sitting on the couch on their phones, etc. The cottages was once a beautiful place with motivated staff, engaging events/activities for residents/families, ducks, flowers on every porch, very clean inside, etc. Now the ducks are gone, the water looks murky/black, turnover is sky rocketing and the buildings need some TLC. I wish we would have taken her out of the cottages sooner but we definetly learned that lesson. I have recently heard that Nurse Nicki has left the Cottages, what a tremendous loss to lose an onsite RN.

My Mom (Anne) spent the last 3 years of her life here and she loved it. We liked the individual houses and rooms they had and it felt like a home, not the typical hospital like setting. They have the freedom to walk the premises outside, sit by the ponds, or sit on the porch and enjoy a cup of coffee. She made great friends and would walk to the other houses to play cards, dominos, or go to activities at the main house. We really enjoyed visiting and spending time with her, the residents, and the aids there. We will miss that. The RN and aids here took care of my Mom like she was family and truly cared about her all the way up to her passing. I would not have wanted her anywhere else! This is the best place in the area!

I am so grateful for how well they cared for my father. The cottages are sunny and the staff are caring and attentive. My father was always dry and clean. Very good communication from the nursing staff also. Highly recommend.

Just wanted to send out a good review for the Cottages of Swansboro. I live in WI but my elderly relative lived in Carteret County. We were looking for a place for her close to her friends. My aunt now has medical needs that require her to live in an Assisted Living facility. When I first considered the The Cottages I was concerned about the 6 independent facilities and how it would work. I am happy to say that my aunt is very pleased with the care she receives in her cottage. We talk to her every week and sometimes even get to chat with the attending staff. It gives us confidence that they both interact regularly. She has developed a special rapport with many of the staff members. I have called the facility with questions regarding my aunts health, medicines, finances, and even mental concerns. I have always had calls answered or returned by the appropriate person. Usually the CNA or head nurse calls back but also Med Techs and PA's have answered my questions. They have even called proactively with updates. I have been there a number of times, family and friends visit regularly. The facility has always been clean. The residents quarters are spacious and well appointed. They even customize the rooms to the resident's special needs. The food is nutritious and well prepared. The residents can either eat in the dining room or privately in their own rooms. The medicines are administered as prescribed. I feel confident The Cottages of Swansboro is taking good care of my aunt!!

I find The Cottages of Swansboro to be an outstanding facility and the one I trust to care for my mother... The staff has been incredible in the care for my mother making sure all her needs are met with compassion and dignity... I must commend Norma who supervises the staff and handles the daily operations in an exceptional manner ...
