Capital Towers Frequently Asked Questions
What is the price for Capital Towers?

Does Capital Towers take Medicare or Medicaid?
Medicare does not cover senior apartments because they are designed for older adults who can live independently and do not typically provide medical care or assistance with daily living. Medicaid does not directly cover the cost of rent for senior apartments, but some states offer Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers that may help with personal care, homemaker services, or medical assistance provided in the home or apartment. Many senior apartment communities also offer income-based rent options or participate in HUD assistance programs to help make housing more affordable. My husband and I want to commend Mrs Julene Taylor (Assistant Manager) and team for providing an outstanding and professional services. She gave us a glimmer of hope when our circumstances seemed bleak. We are forever grateful for excellent management, customer service, and compassion. Thank you so much for giving us hope. God Bless

Apartment inspections EVERY 3 MONTHS. Then, Building inspections. There's been 5 inspections this year so far. Yes - every 3 months they come into the apartment YOU PAY FOR, and violate your privacy and judge how you live there. There are elders here that have to be in powerchairs because of their health issues and they are expected to pass these inspections. There's marijuana smoking and cigarette smoking in units and management does nothing. Muslim extremist leaflets get left at our doors, management does nothing. We have emergency call bells in our units but they do not ring at the office or anywhere else, just in the hall and it gets ignored. Trying to get maintenance staff to fix anything here is very difficult. It took them almost 6 months to come and fix a leak. Laundry room facilities are PATHETIC. At least half the machines are out of order at any given time and there is no AC or FAN in the laundry rooms at all. It's stifling, smelly, and broken machinery. There are no emergency lights in stairwells if the power should go out. The elevators have broken down 3 times this year so far. Living here is heartbreaking but I can't afford to move right now.

First off, what was claimed in other reviews, the "imposing figure" that Capital Towers presents is fast dwindling due to the much more imposing buildings rocketing up in North Hills. Second, while they perform what seems to be quarterly inspections for bedbugs, my friend hasn't heard of them finding any and she's lived there for 3 years. Let's not confuse inspecting for bedbugs with having them - most places don't even bother with those inspections. For the rest of the building, it was built with HUD dollars back in the early 70's and it targets low income residents, so if you're expecting the Four Seasons you're not living in reality. Rent (usually around $600-700) includes utilities, use of their library, regular mini-bus transportation to grocers and retailers, donations from food banks, often sweeping views of Raleigh, and other amenities. It's within walking distance of 2 grocery stores, a pharmacy, movie theaters, banks, and countless restaurants and retailers. If you or your parents spent their work life serving others and not their bank accounts, and are independent in most aspects of life, there is no better place in Raleigh, or Charlotte for that matter. It's an older building that needs updating, but if that were done rents would rise and that would not serve their residents. In a nutshell, for what one gets for the money, this is a pretty good deal. If you have a lot of money then it's probably not for you.
