Where do I start to review Friendship Village-Sunset Hills? -You drive up and the grounds, buildings, landscape of 52 acres is breathtaking. -Their highly-skilled customer service/care is second to none. From front desk concierge, sales, office staff, security, housekeeping and 20 year old waiters/waitresses that have worked 5 years, show daily their love for the residents. -Efficiencies, quality and friendliness are hallmarks of their service. -The food is delicious and abundant in variety and portions. Great Sunday Brunch also. -Cleanliness in all the details of the updated and beautiful lobby's, hallways and resident rooms. -The ambiance here at FV-SH is always inviting, welcoming and comfortable for 62 and up in age. You can tell by the smiles and demeanor of the residents that they are loved and well cared for by this staff. -Overly impressed with their professionalism and customer care.

Wonderful! My mom has lived here in independent living for about 14 years, she just turned 91. I was involved in her decision and have been an active part of her life there. She seemed a bit young when she chose to move to Friendship Village but it was the best decision! She made great friends, enjoys her freedom and is so comfortable there now 14 years later. We both have peace of mind that it's safe and that whatever her needs may be Friendship Village has the resources and solutions to help her. It's beautifully maintained from the grounds to the common areas, the dining rooms and the living spaces. There is even a new diner! The people are kind and caring, the food is delicious, and there are so many activities to appeal to everyone's interests. I can't think of a better place to live as you head into the later years of life.

Looking back six years we know that we made the best possible choice where to take residence. We wanted to maintain our accustomed quality of life and found that we could both keep and expand our household experiences. Freedom. Located high above the Meramec River Valley, with easy access to lakes, trails and golf courses and amazing views of sunrise and sunsets from our balcony. A photo of our view is attached. Food. Restaurants offer a large variety of fine meals with daily change of menus. Activities. The January calendar lists 181 in-house events: wellness, games, spiritual, and committee events. Busses will depart for 31 destinations: local outings, outstate travel, shopping, Fox theater and Symphony events. Planned international travel events. Spiritual life is important to all residents. Multi-denominational Services including Saturday Mass in the Ballroom, choirs, and study groups. Residents participate in advising management through many functional committees each of which report to a top Residents Committee. The Director's door is always open. Security of residence is unique. FVSH "Life Care" assures on-site care from assisted living, skilled nursing care, memory care to hospice. Most important are the friendships that really make this a village. We really did expand our quality of life!

We like it here because of the activities and the social aspect of it. We like the educational outings, and also the outings to restaurants where we make friends and spend time with the friends we've already made. There are lots of classes to participate in physical activities to keep us fit, and there is a golf group we have joined where we play regularly with our friends. We also have a pickle ball court on campus, and my wife plays with a group of her friends every week when the weather is nice. We hav great Events in the ballroom with several hundred people with great food. It's always a lot of fun.

What attracted me the most to Friendship Village was that it offers a life-care plan. There are services ranging from independent living to assisted living to memory care to skilled nursing and rehab. I'm assured good care at any stage of health. This relieves not only my worries but also those of my children. They will never have to worry about "what to do with Mom."

Three years ago my wife and I decided it was time for us to change our life style and move to an active independent senior living community. So it wasn't because we had health issues and were looking for extended care. We took a whole year and explored eight different independent living facilities. As we did this we realized that we kept comparing these places to Friendship Village Sunset Hills. Each day we can choose from multiple activities, wellness classes, and trips around St. Louis and beyond. We can also chose to enjoy our lovely apartment and the beautiful grounds. We enjoy the fabulous food. But mostly, we find the residents and the employees to be kind and thoughtful, willing to help and make life enjoyable. The Life Care program gives us security knowing we will be cared for at all levels of health care with a predictable and affordable cost.

Friendship Village is Peace of Mind. Stress is minimized for you and your family. Its Disneyland for Adults. EVERYTHING you could possibly want in beautiful surroundings with down to earth friendly community that also offers you privacy. I began my search for my parents with 17 possibilities - none compared to Friendship Village. Its not about the absolutely beautiful community, the outstanding responsive service, the amenities or incredibly stress free lifestyle for you and your family, it is about Kindness, Understanding, Patience, Service, Community. Genuine care topped off with total efficiency and excellence in every detail of service. I am a real person, my father is in skilled nursing and my mother soon to move in to an independent living apartment. The advise I give to you: Go to Friendship Village. Do not wait to make this affirming life change. The time is now, not later, when there is a circumstance change or crisis that make it a necessity rather than a leisurely choice. Do this for yourself, do it for your family, do it now. peace, Linda Karcher Howard

Im so very grateful for FVSH for the past 13 years. I have experienced many happy and comforting experiences. The most rewarding experience was while my husband was in the Care Center for 3 years and received much love and fabulous care before passing. For this I will be eternally grateful.

Its so easy to live here. I came from big home, but this is very simple compared to keeping a big home. Ive been here a little over two years. I like that its private, so I can keep to myself if I want to even though Im very social. Ive made a lot of friends. Ill talk to anyone that listens. And the food is good. Its readily available. I do some cooking in my room, but very little. And theres so many scheduled activities. If I want to go do something, I do, but if I dont, I dont!

Living at Friendship Village Sunset Hills, is like living in a five star resort. We checked several places before deciding to move here and one of our major reasons is their Life Care Program. They offer us independent living with unbelievable benefits, then when needed, well move to assisted living, they also have memory care and a new private room nursing home is under construction, all right here on campus. Weve told our friends that they should check this out and they say, Oh, Im not ready for that yet they think its a nursing home rather than independent living with unlimited benefits. People often wait too long before deciding to come here and then they miss out on all the benefits.

We made the decision to move here because its the only one I liked. We had an introductory luncheon here and immediately decided to move. Our children live out of state and it makes life easier for them we can be independent.

Warm and friendly - they earned my trust and respect in five years of caring for Dad. Dad didnt initially want to leave his home, but after six months he told me that he was glad that I insisted he make this move. When he moved to Assisted Living after three years, he later told me that he liked the size of the facility and the care given and wished he had moved directly into Assisted Living when he first arrived at Friendship Village.

Friendship Village is really a village. I was raised in the country, with nearby villages, so I know a village when I see one! Sited on 50 odd acres, on top of one of the highest bluffs of the Meramec Valley, our apartment, our home, looks miles across the river to the hills of Jefferson County. In the Fall and Spring, the twists and turns of the river are traced with fog. The valley includes two lakes and a trailhead that leads to 14 miles of hiking (my favorite) or biking. One can walk a mile on campus – indoor halls or outdoor streets. Five years ago, we watched with anticipation during the demolition and rebuilding of our home. We chose hard surfaces, easy to keep spotless, and trip-free for a woman with severe post-polio problems. Our village is populated with people from all walks of life and each person has a unique life story. It reminds me of Frank Capras Bedford Falls. As in any good village, different people have different views and one easily finds a circle of congenial friends. Barb is a good and sympathetic listener and lots of women like to share. My interests center around billiards (pool), writing stories, and re-learning to play the clarinet. In Covid-19 free times, monthly trip lotteries have taken us as far as St. Genevieve, Branson, and the playhouse at Arrow Rock. There are activities for all those who seek them. Management has thoughtfully provided a few opportunities for critics – but – remember that one mans meat is another mans poison! As to essentials and the unique features of the village: Life care is, to our minds, the greatest value of our choice of Friendship. The next is the three levels of care described in the Village website. The menus run from hamburger to Fillet Mignon, and if the food has a fault, it is too easy to gain weight. Half orders are honored. And freedom – pervasive freedom. Freedom to sit under a tree and read a book or (in Covid-19 free times) to shop (the Village provides frequent bus service) in the numerous nearby stores of Gravois Bluffs. The Village is our choice – our home ─ which we would not exchange at any price. Mike and Barb Cowan

I have not one negative thing to say about Friendship Village! My husband and I came to Friendship Village without having ever seen it until we and the moving truck pulled in. It instantly felt like home and we were welcomed with open arms by many residents (none whom we knew before). Since losing my husband about 8 moths ago, I have valued my Friendship Village family for being such a comfort and encouragement to me.

The best thing for me in my time of life! Perfect timing for the activities they have to offer and to make more friends with other residents that share the same hobbies. When I am no longer able to drive I know I will still be able to stay active and not be lonely.

Friendship Village has many advantages to help you in the aging process. If you still want to get up and go, they afford you many opportunities to do that. I decided after reviewing all my possibilities to call it my Enrichment Program to enjoy the rest of my life.

I like that I dont have to do any gardening. I like the lifetime care. I was in the care center for a month and and half and they took good care of me. And I still do a lot of sewing in my apartment. The food gets better and better. Ive lived here nineteen years. I think its a very safe place. Im an alternate for my floor committee and have been on it for three years and was a hall rep for a few years because I think its important to be involved.

We just like everything. We like the facility and the people. Everyones so friendly and the food is great. We signed up after getting an ad in the mail and weve always wanted to live independently and not impose on our family. We love it. Were so impressed with the apartments. Weve lived here four years. We never faltered once we made the choice to move here. My husband grew up in this area and likes to look out and see the view and the sunsets. And we love the underground parking.

I have known many people that have made the choice to live here. It is a great place to create a plan for your future. Although most residents are independent and do not require care, all levels of care are available if you need it. My husband and I lived in independent living for 1.5 years and made many friends which was wonderful. My husband had to be in the care center and he was there for 2.5 years.
