Altenheim is such a pleasant facility! The attention to detail was obvious as soon as I walked in. The staff is exceptionally kind. It is a comforting environment. It truly is a senior living boutique as opposed to a stereotypical "nursing home".

Hello my name is Donella Webb McCullough and I am the Housekeeping Supervisor here at the Altenheim. I have worked here almost three years in a couple of different departments. The Altenheim is a wonderful place that our residents call home. I have worked in many nursing homes throughout the Metro area and I must say this one is the best. We are not perfect but we love our residents and they love us. We have lots of fun together. We listen when they have complaints and we do our best to fix them. St. Louis Altenheim is a beautiful, peaceful community of incredible residents and amazing staff. The environment is impeccably maintained; offering gorgeous views of the Mississippi River, inclusive activities for the residents and stately sitting rooms for visiting with loved ones.

All of The Altenheim staff are friendly, personable and caring. I had extensive personal experience with loved ones in an eldercare environment when I first came to work as Receptionist 3 years ago. I respect and rely upon the level of TLC and professionalism shown.

Went for the Authors presentation on the History of downtown St. Louis. Very interesting to see where it started and how it came to be as it is. The presentation was by local author, lecturer, and your guide, Ms. NiNi Harris, a life long local resident. Her book Downtown St. Louis is out in its 2nd edition.

My father has been on the intermediate care floor at Altenheim for six weeks, after spending 2 months in two other well-rated facilities for rehabilitation. This is the first one where he hasnt said Im ready to leave when asked how he is doing. The nursing staff is friendly, competent, caring, and responsive to his needs. The administration is easy to talk to and open to how best to meet his needs. Dad likes the meals (a first since he went into the hospital in November) and the dining room staff called him by name at the first meal and knew what he liked within the first week. In fact, every staff member that passes him in the halls greets him by name, as they seem to with everyone. We only looked at nursing homes rated 4 or 5 stars on the medicare.gov site. All the ones we looked were very nice and many of them were newer than Altenheim, which was started over a century ago in a mansion on a hill overlooking the Mississippi. When the current facility was built, they kept as much of the mansions furnishings as they could. The result - a common area for the residents on the main floor that retains the atmosphere and tranquility of times past and common areas on every floor that have a lovely view of the river. The atmosphere is more comfortable than clinical, the rooms are primarily private, and the pricing is competitive. Dads doctor recently asked him how he liked Altenheim. He said Its very nice. I like it. High praise, indeed, since he had been living independently in his own home until 4 months ago.

My mother has been a resident for 4 years now and she is extremely well cared for. The food and support services are great and, when medical issues occur (and at 93 years old they will), the Altenheim staff are well trained and observant, handling what they can in-house and when necessary managing her hospital admission. The staff seems to genuinely enjoy working with the residents and each other.
