November 2025
From the very beginning, this facility has shown a consistent pattern of neglect. When my mother was moved into Memory Care, everything became significantly worse. She has lived in a constant state of urine and feces. Her room smells so bad that even after I personally cleaned, did her laundry, and repeatedly complained, nothing changed. No one helped—not staff, not supervisors, not management. It feels like everyone is protecting each other instead of protecting the residents. My mother has asthma, and even the strong ammonia odor did not seem to phase anyone. Staff continued to insist this level of filth “wouldn’t make her sick.” The reality is that she was left in unsanitary, unsafe conditions day after day. When my mother first moved into Memory Care, a manager named [name removed] told me she had set up my mother’s unit. That was not true. I have the photos. The room was never set up properly. Because of her confusion, my mother slept in a wooden chair for days, thinking it was her bed. She began losing control of her bladder and bowels, and I have personally had her hand me feces with her bare hands because no one was caring for her. The most alarming incident happened on November 6, 2025. A strange man was found inside my mother’s locked room in the secure Memory Care unit. To this day, no one has explained how he entered the building, the locked memory care wing, and her private room—completely unnoticed. Considering the severe understaffing and the frequent inattentiveness of staff (many of whom are often on their phones or even asleep), it is unfortunately believable that this occurred without anyone intervening. EMS was called and transported my mother to United Hospital. A sexual assault kit was performed. EMS also reported her living conditions to Adult Protective Services. Despite all of this, the hospital discharged her back to the same unsafe environment later that day. When she returned, staff—reportedly under the direction of [name removed]—had completely cleared out her room. It looked like she was being moved out. Every single item was gone: clothing, bedding, shoes, glasses—everything. Furniture was turned to the walls, drawers emptied, lamps shoved into the closet. She didn’t even have a pillow or sheets. When I asked staff for bedding, I was told, “Everyone has one, but we don’t have any more. We’ll try to find one tomorrow.” I had to purchase pillows, bedding, and shoes myself just so she could sleep comfortably. Treating an Alzheimer’s patient this way is cruel, retaliatory, and completely unacceptable. Since then, every time I return, the unit smells terrible. My mother is not changed regularly. Her bedding is soaked in urine. When I asked for clean sheets, three staff members confronted me as if I was the problem. One woman in all black began yelling that they “can’t help my mother because she bites and kicks.” Another told me it was my responsibility to provide bedding—despite the fact that I already bought it, and it mysteriously disappears. A third walked toward the closet to get a sheet, then turned around and yelled, “You ain’t going to disrespect me. I’m not getting you anything.” All because I asked for my mother—who has Alzheimer’s—to have clean bedding. How is an elderly woman living in urine not disrespectful? How is asking for basic care “disrespectful”? Their reaction said everything. Even my mother’s friend visited and was appalled. My original review was taken down. So I am reposting. Because people deserve to know. Tell me how a man breaks into a locked memory care unit. Tell me why my mother’s room was emptied while she was in the hospital. Tell me why staff retaliated when I asked for clean bedding. And tell me why the facility deleted my review instead of fixing the problems. Families should not have to fight this hard just to make sure their loved one is clean, safe, and treated with human decency.

The best part of my experience was with the marketing person, Lynda. She was knowledgeable, understanding of the emotions present when making memory care choices, and available and accessible....always returning my calls. I did not end up choosing this memory care for multiple reasons but wanted to give a shout out to Lynda for her kind attention.

The staff here care and were extremely helpful with transferring care from another nursing home. Lynda and Lexi were both hands on and easy to get in contact with.

A great community with an amazing team!!

After a winding path through TC senior care from the new and fancy, classy and sophisticated to the down right depressing, we found our way for our healthy but in need of care and community for our 98 year old mom to New Perspectives In Highland. We are thrilled with what might be the 3 most important aspects of a senior community: THE CARE STAFF are fantastic and keep the needs of the resident in mind. They are empowered to problem solve, and out the resident first. If sheets need changing or extra bathing or something laundered and it is not the scheduled day for it, they just do what is needed. If the resident needs to get out of their room or get outside or needs someone to sit with them, they simply do it. Most of the staff have been there for more than 5 years or longer , giving them confidence and ownership and a sense of team. THE RESIDENTS have a sense of community and care for each other, not created by fancy programs or the best exercise facilities or even the best dining program but possibly by design and leadership, the residents have a sense of looking out for each other that is truly lovely. RESPONSIVE LEADERSHIP under director Renee is earnest and open and climbing its way out of the post covid era. She has provided realistic "triage" for priorities and has pulled together a good care team and working on building more programing and services and creates opportunities for families to help, support, ad engage. What they lack in new carpeting or gourmet food, they make up for in humanity and grace.

I've lived here for8 years and this is my last stop. I hope NP can bring in enough new residents to stay afloat. I also would like to see more accuracy on the daily calendar. We need a bus driver NOW. Trips and outings have always been a big part of activities here. Food is good. Carol Johnson-Miller

My family found the people at New Perspectives so helpful in transitioning our dad into assisted living. Lynda was especially helpful in every way. My dad really likes it there so far!
March 2023
My parents recently moved to New Perspectives Highland. When entering New Perspectives Highland, the ambiance is immediately warm and welcoming—and our experience in getting my parents moved in certainly reinforced that first impression of a warm and welcoming community! The help and support we received while selecting an apartment, completing all of the requisite paperwork, moving, and perhaps most importantly helping my parents to feel settled in, was absolutely amazing! Lynda Highman, the Sales Director, was actively involved and so extremely helpful every step of the way throughout the entire process—and beyond. Anytime a question or problem came up she was always quick to respond with the information we needed. All of the staff that we have interacted with have been extremely helpful and professional, and have gone out of their way to help my parents feel welcome and secure in their new apartment. I think my mom’s words best sum up our family’s experience with the New Perspectives Highland community, “Everyone here is just so nice!”

I have just begun to look for assisted living for my parents. We toured New Perspectives in Highland.. While waiting for Lynda the sales director, I noticed a lot of interection by the staff with the residents. The staff was friendly and addressed the resident by their first names which gave me the feeling they really cared. The facility was bright and clean. While my parents are not quite ready for the transition I feel it would be benificial to consider New Perspectives

UPDATE: Our experience with New Perspective continues to excel. Over the past few months, my father’s dementia has grown more challenging. As his needs have changed, NP has responded perfectly with an excellent care plan and staff who work closely with my father. I continue to be impressed by how caring ALL the staff are and the individual attention given to the residents. This includes not only care staff but business and support staff as well. Definitely a special group of people at NP. Excellent experience! We moved my father to New Perspective memory care this past week. All the staff, from directors to front desk to caregivers and maintenance were extremely friendly and helpful. They made the move as easy as possible and responded immediately to anything needed. An example, we had problems getting his TV hooked up and we left a mess on the floor assembling furniture. Within an hour, the staff had the TV going and floor vacuumed. The apartment was perfect for move in. My father has now been in his new apartment several days and has nothing but kind words, especially noting how friendly and concerned the caregivers were. This is especially important as my father is NOT one to compliment easily. He also noted the food was very good. Overall, would strongly recommend New Perspective Highland Park.

I met a wonderful person when I was searching for an assisted living placement for a family member, her name is Lynda Hyman, she was the marketing director New Perspectives Highland at that time. It was a very emotional time for me as these transitions often are. Lynda met our needs with compassion, and clear, consistent and prompt communication. Beyond that she and the staff worked hard to get a studio apartment ready under a short timeline, and it is really a nice space, clean and fresh and appealing. I will always be grateful for the kind and professional help Lynda gave us. Thank you!

In over six years I have made many friends. I am very pleased with the medication process..It is well managed. . The staff are friendly. There are a variety of daily activities such as bingo to take advantage of. Bible study meets weekly and church services are live-streamed or there is a car pool if I wan t to attend in person

My father in-law recently joined the New Perspective Senior Living community in Highland Park. The leadership has been engaged through out the entire process, with some hiccups working out the logistics of his medical support. We are saddened to see the previous director leave to another New Perspective community, but have confidence in the new leadership. The only voice that truly matters is that of my father in-law. He reports that he is happy with his apartment, that he is treated incredibly well with quality of life amenities (e.g., laundry, cable), he likes the food and the birds in the hallway aviary outside his door. He is not much of a social type, but the opportunities are there when he is ready. Finally, the community is close to our home for frequent visits and medical considerations, and comparable affordability to assisted living communities we research. Overall, we are happy with our decision, and thankful that he has been able to transition to this new chapter of his life in a supportive environment.

I am very happy living here and consider this my last stop. I do wish that the front desk hours could be extended by 1 or 2 hours, instead of the 5 p.m. closure it is now. The food is good, the staff is friendly, and the activities are great! I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for an assisted living facility. Carol Johnson-Miller
February 2022
My mother moved into the assisted living at New Perspective Highland Park and lived there for a few months before needing to move into memory care. Assisted living at NP seems great - lots of interaction with other residence, a choice of good quality food, activities that are inclusive. That all changed in the memory care. No longer could she choose her meals but had to eat what was given her and it was often cold. I spoke to the director on several occasions about the food and was promised she would look into it. Nothing changed. I asked that something be done to the hinges on her door so it would close behind her because other residents were walking right into her apartment. She made a change which broke the trim around the door. Four months later that had not been repaired nor had the hinges been changed. My mother's name was never installed outside her door like other apartments. While some of the caregivers are excellent, there is a lack of respect and dignity in the memory care at New Perspective.

New Perspective Highland Park has been the best place and I couldn't be more happy with my mom's new home. From the staff to the grounds and location, everything and everyone has been wonderful. This process to find your loved one a new home with added care is not easy and they made the process so smooth. Her apartment is bright and always kept clean, and her caretakers are attentive and so kind. She really is settling in so nicely, the last few months have been so nice for her and our family. Thank you, New Perspective Highland Park
December 2020
The staff at New Perspectives is amazing. They are a caring group who go out of their way to give excellent care to my mother and make every Covid-safe opportunity available for family members. My mother resides in the memory care wing where residents are engaged in meaningful activities tailored to their interests (listening to music, FaceTime calls with family, etc). Five stars!

I dont usually write reviews, but I want to say how much I appreciate the staff at New Perspective Highland Park—especially Kristina, NP Life Engagement Manager. Kristina is an absolute angel. The love and care that she shows my mother is beyond words. I feel like Kristina is part of our family. She treats my mom as though she was her own. Her kindness is an amazing bright light in the dark days of this pandemic. She goes above and beyond to keep us connected and Im eternally grateful!

I am so grateful to the wonderful attention my mother is receiving from New Perspective caregivers - especially during this time of COVID. Kristine Dickausens love and care for our mom has been a life line. Kristinas bi-weekly video chats have kept us connected with our mom which has been a life line for all of us. Thank you New Perspectives, you and your staff are our family through and through!!

Hi what kind of food do you guys at new perspective?
September 2020
My family needed to find a new facility for our father. He has dementia and lives in a secured memory care unit. His finances are running out and we needed to find a building that offered Elder Waiver. New Perspective in Highland Park offers this funding and we hoped there would be an opening. Unfortunately, the building did not have an opening but Coleen Sanford offered us names of other buildings that could help our family. Coleen was available for all of my questions and ready to help us even though her building couldnt help us at this time. I appreciated all of her time and attention.
August 2018
The staff is caring and attentive, the facility is clean and friendly, there are plenty of activities that seniors can participate in, they have great medical staff and in house services. Everything from great meals, to hair and nail care, to full on memory care. I would recomend New Perspectives to new families looking for a place for their loved ones.

When we were looking for a place for my love one this location was actually my first choice. The facility was well run, it was sunny, and bright. However, I had to worry what my love one would be paying. Based on her income it was not a good fit unfortunately.
