My aunt is living in the independent part of the Village Of Westland. It was the biggest mistake of my life that I made putting her there. The Kitchen staff sucks. There are no words to explain, and their director is not much better. She has a studio, which includes three meals a day. She has not gotten three meals a day consistently since she moved in in the middle of May she either gets no meals the wrong meal somebody else’s meal it’s horrific. I have emailed text message called and met in person with several department heads, including D who’s over the kitchen And the service just gets worse. My heart bleeds for the elderly they don’t have someone that stands up for them because they’re not getting three meals a day either if somebody came in and talk to these residence specially on 600 Haul they would find out how unhappy most of these residents are Housekeeping and laundry every other week and they don’t do that great of a job they need to learn how to vacuum properly and when you clean the bathroom, you clean the whole bathroom that includes the tub and everything whether you think it’s been used or not it needs to be cleaned Forget trash removal service they don’t do that anymore. Forget being checked on if you need to be checked on because that doesn’t happen either my aunt had fallen somewhere between Saturday evening and Monday morning. I don’t know when she fell because she doesn’t know when she fell. She just remembers laying on the floor crying for help and nobody came to help her. She ended up in the hospital for four days after that so if anybody has any legitimate suggestions, I am open for them unless you are totally independent which means you don’t need them to bring you your meals. You don’t need them to do housekeeping or laundry then it’s nice. The apartments are nice. Some of them have great views but if you’re not 100% independent, don’t go there

Family and I were visiting my aunt and I was very disappointed in how she was living.

Horrible Wifi in the apartments. The attendants don't check on my relative in a timely manner. Food is routinely delivered cold. Apparently the new Monday, Wednesday, Friday trash pick up hasn't been going well either. And they nickel and dime over everything. Charging an extra $25 a week for the mentioned trash pick up???? Ridiculous. Very much in talks to move out.

Our father has lived here for over a year. He has dementia, hearing loss, low vision and is in his 90s. The nursing staff are good people. They work hard and deal with all sorts of types of patients. I feel for them as they are under staffed and over worked. They don't have many perks so it seems. I believe this is why we have experienced some issues here. Our encounters with certain staff members have been pleasant. They seem to really care. There seem to be lots of activities and the person hosting those is kind and inventive. The place isn't the Ritz. The hallways are a bit old and the apartments are from what I would guess the 70s. The trash closets are gross and smelly and the smell lingers into the hallways. I don't imagine this is too sanitary. Our biggest issue is our father was handed the wrong medication twice, in front of us. Luckily we caught it, but, who knows how often this happens when we aren't here? This is a bit scary and could create many legal issues for the staff and the facility in the future if it does any harm to a patient. All it takes is one. We decided to put a camera in his place to monitor the staff and our father to be sure they are taking care of him properly. The cable, power, and internet go in and out frequently, which for some residents is their main sources of entertainment. The food is really disappointing. I know they struggled to hire a chef and still need more staff, but the food is lots of starches and very little fruits or vegetables. Our father has gained weight while being here, which is concerning. For dementia patients it is a very lonely place unless you have been there a long time. Making friends can be challenging as this facility houses elderly patients and patients with various mental and physical disabilities. The facility isn't as expensive as others. Average assisted living costs about 10k per month and this place is about 20-30% that depending on your needs. I guess you get what you pay for? My advice would be to pay your staff more, give better benefits to them to encourage them to care more. Hold staff to higher expectations to avoid a lawsuit. Emplore your staff to treat this like their own home. Hire a dietitian to supervise the quality of food. Offer more fresh fruits and vegetables. Ultimately you need more staff. The current staff is trying their best, but it is little things like providing staff with a bathroom close to them. Offering empty apartments as areas staff could rest and relax. Show them respect and treat them with dignity because they deal with a lot of challenges normally. If you make this a place staff wants to be at, you won't have hiring issues and turnover and your clientele will grow. Triple check medication! Handing a patient the wrong medication is a lawsuit waking to happen! We will continue to have our father here, but we will be randomly checking in to be sure things are going right. We appreciate the staff and all they do. I know most of them are loving, kind, caring people. It's a tough job, and they need better management support. Working 10+ hour days and double shifts without extra pay isn't acceptable, especially when peoples lives could be in their hands.

I went to do a walk through for my brother who needs physical rehab and speech therapy. The Keos itself was filthy, that they ask you to sign in on, as if it is barely cleaned. Though the people there are nice, it seems to be old, run down, and not so bright inside. Not a good setting for a patient who needs some cheering up to get well again. Was not for us!

My moms been in here for a little over 3 months. My family Love it for her. Best move we ever made. Thanks VOW. You're Awesome
February 2023
My mom has been here for about 8 years and loves it. The best part is the staff that know the residents by name especially the front desk staff. The food has improved over the years. I find peace knowing mom can age in place and have assistance from the hole health companies Mom has dementia and can sometimes complain about when meds are delivered but the staff has gone above and beyond to appease her. The cleaning staff does a great job and the building apartments are very clean. The activities director had a wonderful mother daughter luncheon and tried to incorporate resident feedback. There is a workout area on site with machines like nustep and stationary bikes along with classes appropriate for balance and flexibility. Yes, the building isn't shiny and new but it feels like home to my mom so that is more important to us. It is very reasonable compared to other senior housing. It's owners also win Best Non profit awards and work to fulfill the mission of caring instead of prioritizing profit. Highly recommend

Been here 6 years and counting. Great place to work with supportive managers and coworkers. Always room to advance if you want. The residents are the best part of this place and make the job well worth it. Wouldn't change a thing
August 2022
Residents have their own room with kitchen and walk-in shower, plus cafeteria, work-out area, lobby gaming area, games like Bingo and peanutbutter ball toss, art & other classes, and an assigned "buddy" system to make new residents feel welcome. Lots of hallways but marked well as a "grid" so not confusing due to "street signs". Baby grand piano and chapel, too!

I started living at the Village of Westland in May of 2021 after a traumatic illness that left me disabled. With the encouraging help of the staff here I started to get involved in the many activities which led to getting to know many of the residents which welcomed me with such friendly hearts. I immediately felt like part of this community, I contribute a big part of big part of my speedy recovery that I faced to all involved. The staff here are caring, welcoming and ready to help with any needs. We are quite a community here and I'm blessed to have found the Village of Westland,

My 91 year old mother-in-law has lived here for over 5 years. She always tells me how wonderful the staff is! She loves her 1 bedroom apartment complete with a kitchen, living room, dining room and full bathroom. She walks down to the dining room where she eats great food with friends she has met. They are all currently wearing masks and there are dividers in the dining room. Crafts, exercise, movie night and other activities have started up again during the pandemic but only 10 people at a time. My mind is relieved with her living in such an awesome place!!

This place is so nice that I would love to move in! My Grandma has been here for about a year and a half. And from living in the apartment independently to living in the cottage for Alzheimer's, she has been taken care of as if the staff was family. I truly have never run into a rude worker here. From the manager to the maintenance man, everyone is so pleasant! 6 out of 5 star rating for sure!

Excellent senior independent living. Large beautiful apartments with views of beautiful courtyard. Dinning room, laundry, store, library, salon, planned activities. Something for everyone. Great place to meet new friends and entertain friends and family. Safe, clean, well lit, plenty of free parking. Gorgeous living room with fireplace and comfortable furniture. Excellent place to live with friends. Friendly, professional staff. Better than home. No yard work, shopping for groceries, unless you're into that kind of stuff. Garden club, game nights and wide variety of activities keep you as busy as you want to be. Close to shopping, hospitals and the arts. Too bad I'm not old enough to live here. Happy, kind and caring residents make this the up and coming place to be in Westland Michigan. Great place for Mom and Dad to enjoy the golden years. Don't miss out, check it out. The place to move when you're ready to sell the house and live the good life in a safe community. See for yourself, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
June 2017
My mom lives here, in her own apartment, and really likes it here. She gets great care from the staff! Sadly, the food isn't good, lacks variety, and they do not serve healthy food. Not even a diabetic diet!
