When my husband and I moved into Cordia we quickly discovered why Cordia is defined as “A Senior Residential Club”, It is truly a community of seniors with common interests who take part in shared activities. Leaving our home was not easy but membership in the Cordia Club has made this next chapter in our lives truly enjoyable. In addition, our children are relieved to know we are in a safe place with a medical staff if needed. Cordia offers a wide range of activities, from fitness classes to several weekly forums focusing on art and music appreciation, current events, and films/documentaries. In addition to opportunities to learn and explore new and interesting ideas, we are often treated to special concerts performed by the talented people from Interlochen, the near-by world renowned arts academy, Meeting people who share your interests is easy because of the friendly staff. They all know your name and perform their duties with efficiency. The daily menus at meal time, offer several delicious choices. The opportunity to dine and socialize with other members has also added a dimension to our lives which we would not have experienced if we hadn’t joined the “Club”.

Although independent living is A+, assisted living only deserves a D+. My mom has lived at Cordia for over 5 years. As she has aged and her needs have increased, the services have deteriorated remarkably. She essentially vegetated in her room. The “activities” schedule for Cordia Living Plus is abysmal. They repeat the same schedule week after week and then cancel half of the activities listed. My mom is legally blind but they don’t even have the consideration to help her to activities in which she might be interested. She has not even been taken down or reminded about dinner. Food is left in her room which then reeks. Her trash isn’t emptied and staff are not trained how to make a bed with a draw sheet. If I didn’t care for her, she wouldn’t even be showered safely. This is a great place if you are independent but don’t expect to age in place because “assisted living” is NOT assisted.

There are so many things that I like about living at Cordia. I think that they have an amazing staff that makes you feel welcome and cared for. There is so much to be grateful for - especially the companionship of the other residents that I get to associate with. We have an active and social community here. It is a great experience for me to live independently at the age of 90 in such wonderful, loving surroundings. I am very active in Cordia’s exercise program - Terri the personal trainer is amazing - which has helped me keep youthful and healthy. It is also reassuring to know that if I am not feeling well, the wellness staff is here and they are so attentive. Moving to Cordia is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

My parents have been in residence at Cordia since their initial trial in early 2018. Cordia’s personable staff’s attitude, membership diversity and the facilities phenomenal architecture convinced my parents at 89 years young, to make the move. After a short period of adjustment, we laughed when my parents were “too busy” to visit us for the weekend. New friends, new activities and the exercise programs have helped keep my parents active and engaged. Recently my father at 92, due to an infection after surgery, lost the use of his legs. Mom and Dad would now require dramatically different levels of support. Our nightmare scenario of having my parents potentially separated was upon us. Karen Anderson, Cordia’s CEO, and her team gave us valuable advice and clarified how Cordia could help and how the family could best contribute to a successful outcome. A partnership emerged. We moved my parents from Independent Living to the Assisted Living section of the building for improved handicap access, increased meal coverage and quicker access to support staff. We have also hired private aids for a few hours each day to supplement the care that Cordia is able to provide. Additionally, my parents have had to make some compromises and learn a bit of patience on occasion, but it’s working quite well. Cordia was able to suggest vendors to lean on and services to engage to simplify doctor’s visits and lessen the impact on the family. They also suggested tools and procedures we acquired and agreed to making all involved as efficient and as cost effective as possible. It’s expensive, but far, far less than having my parents separated. With luck in February 2022, we will celebrate my parents 70th wedding anniversary. We will be forever grateful for the love, care, concern and respect each of Cordia’s staff has shown our parents. When we celebrate, we’ll bet some of the loudest cheers will be coming from the Cordia team.

An excellent senior environment and experience in an amazing historical facility. We have had parents in both independent and low level assisted living. Keep in mind, this is primarily an independent living facility, focused on providing cultural experiences within the Traverse City area, including theater, music, art, etc., with the theory that such stimulation benefits the aging mind and physical being. It works. For us, who had one parent (our mother) that was quite a bit younger than the other, this provided a way for her to have some independence with the comfort of knowing her older husband was being well taken care of. The staff is well connected to its guests and their families. We feel that we can call anytime with questions or concerns, and know that they will be well accepted and addressed. The food is beyond any senior living facility you will ever experience!! Small plate, gourmet food is the every day norm here - we love to dine with our parents here just to see what lovely food theyre serving for the day! Take a tour - youll stop looking after seeing this place. Seriously. I should add that our grown daughters said they would love to live there someday - its that lovely!!!

I had the privilege of working at Cordia for a little over 3 yrs and it was my favorite job by far. I watched Cordia grow into the wonderful place it is today. I worked as a Wellness assistant and it was one of the most positive environments Ive ever experienced in my 5 yrs as a certified nursing assistant. The staff is very friendly and attentive-helpful. The seniors living at Cordia have many activities to participate in. They all look out for one another and come together as one big family like community. The building is very clean, well kept and just beautiful to see or be in. Cordia is just a great experience all together weather visiting, living or working there. I would recommend Cordia to any friend, family member or stranger.

My dad has been at Cordia for 18 months. He has been content there from day one. The campus is perfect for him as he prefers to be outside as often as the weather permits. The dining room provides restaurant style service with several entrees and sides available for each meal. The meals are excellent!! I look forward to the times Im able to have dinner with Dad at Cordia. The staff is phenomenal! Their care and concern is such that we feel like we have aquired a few more siblings to help us keep Dad safe and healthy.

My mother moved to Cordia from New York to be near me but have her own independent life. Cordia has proven to be the perfect place. From the food to the activities to the entire staff, everything has been great and made my mothers transition both smooth and happy. My only complaint is that when I want to see my mother, shes too busy with all the activities Cordia has to offer!

My mother-in-law moved into Cordia more than 2 years ago and we (and she) couldnt be happier! The food is excellent and my mother-in-law is busy with a myriad of daily activities such as movies, art classes, writing class, book club, gardening and more. Theres always a puzzle out on the table and a group table where you can meet and eat. Shes made many new friends and they meet regularly for dinner and to play cards. There are also great restaurants and shops she can walk to without going outside and across the street is a coffee shop, winery, Mexican restaurant and miles of hiking trails. Who wouldnt want to live here!

My Mom and Dad moved into Cordia last summer and they really like it and it is working out nicely. I spent Thanksgiving weekend at Cordia and the food is just wonderful, for them it is just like being on a cruise or at a nice hotel every day. The staff is very helpful and the atmosphere between all the residents is very friendly. The entire complex is part of very unique historical renovation, which is bringing in all types of fun shops and food vendors a short walking distance to make it a fun place to live
