I want to personally mention a gentleman named Jupiter, who takes care of the residences at the Willows At Okemos. He not only does his job, but he knows how to work and Talk and and handle all the patients there. He is a an amazing man. He goes above and beyond to help and be a kind man to all the elderly people that are staying there that are all sick, hurt or alone. I dare anybody to do this job it’s a thankless one, but boy am I thankful for these people. there are others there too that were fabulous. I just can’t remember everybody’s names.

I returned to the East Lansing Willows following a surgical procedure. My stay was not as it had been the first time. There were assistants who really knew how to take care of business. There were three ladies: Jessica,Chi, Melissa and several others who took care of business. My light was never on any more than 15 minutes. My most recent stay was not as pleasant. My light would stay on from 40-60 minutes and no one would come. Being that I had mobilty issues, I needed assistance. One night I was left in the bathroom and the person did not return. I was able to pull up with one arm to the wheel chair and wherl myself back to the room. I really liked the nurses and therapists. They were all thorough. I wanted my beautician to come over and wash my hair in the beauty shop but was told by the facilitiy’s beautician that I could not. I felt that it was not her place to dictate anything to me. I approached the Acting Director and she said it would be a liability problem for my beautician to come. My beautician has liability insurance even if she needs to travel to do someone’s hair. I decided the issue was not worth pursuing. I am sure things will be better when the director returns. I would suggest that periodic staff meetings would be beneficial and discuss rules, procedures, and perfecting good customer service. Survival depends on good customer service. Dr. Ruby L. Helton

This place is not ready for hip surgery people, patients coming in pain pain controlled, BUT not being kept control until patients are terrible pain figuring out what helps to relieve there pain. On weekends and nights pain meds are give out 45 minutes to 2 hours late . Nurse changes shifts or claim they're not being told that the patients requested was not related back to nurse. All the time the light has been on , but nurses not checking in on patients, THEREFORE THE ONLY WAY TO GET HELP IS BY HALLER FOR HELP , or banging on walls to get attention. Short staffed or lack of personal should not fall on patients care . I even have nursing staff telling me that the doctors must write scripts stating every four hours wake for meds , otherwise patients pain levels sky rocket, because scripts are wrote wrong . Meanwhile nothing gets done but the patients just stay in PAIN !!!!

We had to put my Grandmother in a home because she can no longer watch over herself. We had her situated in her own room. She was their for about two years. Once you do get settled in my Grandmother was always loosing her cell phone charger. Come to find out it was being stolen by someone in the staff! They would loose her night gowns. Atleast several times. About 3 months before she passed away they moved her!! That's right@ without even notifying us. My parents were beyond pissed off. So now she is sharing a room. Then we get the call she's not doing so well. We go up their on the 17th. This is two years ago. And she passes away the next day! I was so upset that I was not their. Because if their un professionalism. She died completely by her self! And this place didn't even bother to rebate us for 13 days for the rest of the month that she was paid up on! So shop around! When I say shop around, Shop around! Don't let these people rip you off. Very poor uneducated staff! My mother did the best she could to find her a place that treated her like this! And this is not the entire story.

My mom was at the Willows of East Lansing in June 2025 for a couple of weeks. The professionalism of the staff, the care she received was exceptional. The activities were engaging for both the rehab clients and residents. The food prepared by the chefs was quality ingredients and delicious. I would highly recommend the care facility to those in search of rehab and from what I am learning for assisted living care. I appreciate each and every staff member who provided care to my mom for their expertise and patience needed to care for the elderly.

My sister was just admitted here yesterday. I came in today to see how the accommodations were. It surpassed my expectations. The place is very nice and clean, the staff is exceptional, the food looks good and it seems they really care about their patients. I felt such a relief knowing she was in a good place!

When I was admitted to the hospital, I had a bad attitude, and I was scared. However, the Nursing staff and the CNA's made my fears subside. I witnessed the Team work hard to implement my care, and I was taken care of very well, from the Nursing department to the CNAs to the Therapy department with the Life enrichment program to the 4-star Kitchen, even Housekeeping, they all were involved with my care and recovery. If you have a Loved one who needs care it would behoove you to let this Team of Professional's treat your treasured family member, they will receive top notch care at all times. My mother was there for rehabilitation and needed to go to Sparrow due to chest pains. She is 91. When I picked her up from the hospital (12/30) she did not have her coat, shoes or hat. She was freezing. The hospital provided blankets while she waited to be seen. The rehab person was wonderful. She was so calm and shared about her family. The wait staff was wonderful. Camille was fantastic. They get 5 stars. 2/21 I was told a follow up appointment with your staff would come the following week. They called to get the address and never showed up. It’s been a few weeks now. No need for follow up now but I thought you should know.

My father was at the Willows of East Lansing for about 7 months and just recently passed away. He absolutely loved it there! The staff are so kind and attentive and the place is clean and very well run! It gave me such peace of mind to know that he was there and happy. I would absolutely recommend the Willows to anyone who's looking for a place for their loved one!

Our family has been fortunate to have friends and family reside at both the East Lansing and Okemos Willows over the past few years. I have also been able to compare other facilities since my mother lived with us for her final 12 years and sadly sustained several falls at home during that period (so rehab. each time etc). I can attest that our experience with The Willows has been one of 100% satisfaction. It is an impressive organization. The challenge of moving into a rehab or long term care unit are obvious (and we all need to acknowledge these challenges). But The Willows is truly a class act in dealing with healing and nervous patience, yet the term "caring" is not just a motto here. Also keep in mind that rehab rooms/beds are often hard to come by (just when you need them) but if you are fortunate enough to find availability at The Willows, your family as a whole will be in "good hands".

I have very high regards for the Willows of East Lansing based on some personal experience. I am somewhat shocked at some of the negative reviews I have read as I find it hard to believe what others are posting -believe me, those experiences did not happen to me. I had a Mother-In-Law that spent a considerable amount of time in the Legacy wing due to her battle with Alzheimer's. I know that she was difficult for the staff to deal with as the Alzheimer's brought out the worse in her but they still did everything they could to help her navigate through her ordeal. I stopped in for a visit quite often (as did my wife) and always found her to be well taken care of. Unfortunately, after my Mother-In-Law had passed away, my Father-In-Law also faced a dilemma and had to be admitted into the Long Term portion of the Willows of East Lansing. He was also treated very well by everyone on the staff and enjoyed the attention that was given to him. He really looked forward to the "Happy Hour" that occured weekly. Once again, nothing but good things to say about the facility. I noticed that many comments were made about the food being served at the facility being terrible. We (as well as our other family members) found that to be the direct opposite. We stopped in many times to have a breakfast, lunch or dinner with our loved ones and even took time to visit them during the Sunday brunches. Again, the food was excellent! I currently have two elderly friends that have been staying at the Willows. One is in the Long Term Care area and the other is in the Legacy Care area. Both have been at the Willows for a long time and both are very happy with their care and, they both love the food that is being served. So with all this being said, I would not hesitate to recommend the Willows of East Lansing to any of my friends and family members.

The willows Legacy is a Great place to have your love one stay . Legacy Dementia unit is a separate building where your love one can have their home away from home . They Treat you and your love ones like family . Legacy has a Great activity program where the activities are used to help their minds and motion . We ended up having to put both of my parents in The Willows of East Lansing at different times. My mom was in the dementia part and my dad in the main health care building. They were both taken good care of. I would highly recommend The Willows of East Lansing. The staff are all very well trained and wonderful with the patients.

Fantastic above and beyond excellent care for my precious mom. Staff went out of the way to find and make her favorite fish meal. When I needed call button, staff came immediately to help! The Willows respects religious choices! Staff were welcoming to all of us, and even made our visiting pets welcome! Took care of my father for about 5 weeks in '14. Nice enough place. Patient Care Techs were great for the most part, some were pretty inept, all were overworked - patient care for nearly all suffers as a result. One tech for an entire hallway was the norm. Patient to staff ratio of 24 to 1 at times, even worse when someone takes a break. The clinical staff (doctor) was okay, just okay. Lot of med revisions based solely on cost of medicine alone. Need, efficacy, or continuity of care mean nothing here. The Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy teams were very good, but are severely limited in the amount of time they can spend with any patient. The OT had been hired recently when we arrived and was scolded for spending too much time with my Dad. Still found time for him and didn't chart it. That was a solution I found frustrating - having to lie to your bosses because you care about your patients. I suspect she did not last long in the organization. The food was actually pretty good. The chef was amazing to me - I had to learn how to make pureed food (stroke victims have a significant change in diet) - and these folks showed me pureed food that was actually okay. The chef was kind enough to talk to me about equipment, thickeners and methods of prep so we could both eat - him pureed and me not. In conclusion: This place is okay if: 1. If your loved one has an advocate keeping a close eye on care with visits at least daily. or 2. Your loved one has it together enough to advocate for themselves. There were a couple of folks who were like my grandma, in that she could carry on conversations but is an elopement risk. This place would have been okay for her. Someone like my Dad was at severe risk in this place. Unsupervised patients came into his room and stole clothing from him. I have a few heartbreaking photos of states in which I found him. Not the PCT's fault, they simply could not keep a good enough eye on the patients even when diligent. I don't know if places exist where this is not the case, but unless you can keep a close eye on them, I would never recommend this place for anyone who was infirm and vulnerable.

Unfortunately, The Willows of E. Lansing is understaffed on the weekends. The rehab patients do not get physical therapy or any therapy on Saturdays and Sundays. They are in REHAB and need their therapy EVERY DAY! Also, there are not enough people to serve food on weekends. The patients often sit and wait for thirty minutes to an hour to get served. My father's health has suffered from the lack of adequate staff on weekends.
