My mom was a resident of the Avalon's Memory Care floor for several years (passed away several months ago). I had toured several local centers and really loved the rooms and staff that I met when there. Bryan Neal was so compassionate while taking care of all the details during what was a very difficult time. My brother was very happy with it when he was able to visit and check out the situation (as he said, it didn't have the musty smell that is present at some facilities, and her apartment was huge, great views from the windows, etc.). The staff that I interacted with were always pleasant and respectful, they always answered any questions that I had, and they seemed to really care about my mom and take good care of her. There were regular follow ups with Tashe and Heather concerning the care plan and what was needed as things changed. Even the cleaning lady helped check on mom and would visit and sing her songs during her time on Hospice care. They partner with Hospice, and it was so comforting for me to have such an easy transition in care when it came to mom's end of life. They made what was an overwhelming situation easy to navigate. I cannot recommend The Avalon of Commerce Township highly enough!

I simply can not imagine a better place for our loved ones as they age. I toured and have had experience with numerous communities and believe wholeheartedly that no other place has the same or higher level of care than you'll find at The Avalon. The compassion, empathy, professionalism and love shown by every level of the care staff from administration to nursing, CNA's, concierge, dining, maintenance and everyone in between is at the highest tier. The Avalon truly sets an industry standard. I knew that my in laws needed to be close to us so that we could look over their care as their health was beginning to deteriorate. The staff at the Avalon was there for us every step of the way from day one until the very end. The last two years have been difficult, but the staff helped us tremendously. They loved my in laws and took the absolute best care of them. Every member of the team went above and beyond expectations. Tashe, the Executive Director is like none other in her field. She makes it her personal business to know every single resident and their families, making sure everyone has everything needed to provide the best care and level of comfort possible. This extends from all care staff day and night. Every step of the way the Avalon staff is there with you and your loved ones. Through their enrichment and activities, outings, medical care, personal care, entertainment and dining programs, The Avalon feels like home. They will love your family like their own.

My dad has lived there for almost a year. It took a few months to get him acclimated and of course there are bumps along the way, but then Tashe, the current ED, stepped in. She personally checks in on ME (in addition to my dad) making sure I'm at ease despite the heartbreaking circumstances. Heather and Ty are very consistent on the nursing/health side, and will take action ASAP if I ever have a concern. It's hard to find aides that truly care about the happiness of their residents and if there has ever been an issue, Tashe handles it appropriately and in a very timely manner. Julie's activities are so engaging and I enjoy visiting so I can participate with my dad. The food is consistent and my dad is a picky eater so the "anytime" menu is awesome if he doesn't like what the main meals of the day are. Dementia is terrifying and moving a parent in their 60s to memory care has been the most difficult thing I've ever done. It requires a lot of trust in strangers and comes with a lot of opportunities for guilt to settle in. Tashe and her team are rockstars and put me at ease and I'm so grateful for them.

Moved my father-in-law in 3 days ago. Couldn't be happier with the staff and facilities. We viewed 4 assisted living locations in the area and this was our 1st choice. Staff is warm, friendly and engaging with each other, residents and visiting families. It's wonderful hearing the staff address residents by name. I will update this review in the future but so far loving The Avalon…. Thank you for being caring and compassionate!

We moved my parents to "The Avalon of Commerce Township" one month ago. I have waited a month before I wrote my review, so we could get settled into the Avalon's routine. We have been very happy with this facility. The Avalon is spacious. There are many additional rooms to spend time outside of their apartment. The food is consistently very good. Their life enrichment activities are wonderful! Specifically these two aspects have been a big selling point. The executive team works tirelessly to make sure the residents and families are well cared for and satisfied with the level of care their loved ones are receiving. So far, if we have any specific issues, I speak with members of the executive team and they address our needs in a timely manner with concern and care. Also, I have observed the executive team always finding ways to improve their facility. I feel I can breathe easy knowing my parents are in good hands. Thank you Avalon!

First, let me start by saying that this facility is absolutely beautiful. However even with the beauty of the facility their biggest treasure is the ED. Tashe' shows compassion and grace with the residents, staff and families. I have witnessed her roll up her sleeves and hit the floor whenever they need her assistance. She has a genuine heart and you can tell that she's not doing this job for a living but because she loves it. The world needs more ED's who actually care about the people they serve and Tashe' is just that.

Very impressed with everything "Avalon"! The staff is compassionate, caring, concerned and goes above and beyond to help make their residents feel special and valued. The amenities are great. Whether taking in a movie, participating in the great community events or dining on a delicious meal, the staff is always there to help or greet you with a smile! The apartments are large and up to date and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view outside. Highly recommend!

My grandma has been here for several months and she is finally safe! She was at another assisted living before coming here, and she was constantly falling. Since coming to Avalon, no serious falls! She is also eating better and the caretakers are nicer and seem to really like her. I'm so happy we found her Avalon.

I can't share enough wonderful things about the Avalon. My father-in-law was so skeptical (his house was destroyed in the hurricane and he lost everything) to move to an assisted living facility, but at 94, he was needing more care than we were able to provide. Bryan, and the Avalon staff, were beyond accommodating. We asked every question to be asked, had delay after delay on our end, and they were nothing but responsive. My father-in-law LOVES it there. We stop by unannounced multiple times a week, and the care is remarkable.

This review is in reference to Activities Director Kay McMahon. My family has been very happy overall with the Avalon of Commerce Township and how they are caring for my father. Kay McMahon, specifically, makes it her mission to interact directly with each resident and make them feel comfortable, happy and loved. Kay is a ray of sunshine on a daily basis and she works very diligently to spread that throughout the community. Being separated from your loved one is very daunting, but the staff at the Avalon -- including Kay McMahon -- make the transition and every day experiences very positive. I am most impressed with Kay's creativeness, ingenuity and ability to engage residents on a daily basis to keep their social, physical and emotional well being at an optimum level. Well done, Kay!

It's an honor and a privilege to express our experience at The Avalon of Commerce Township. Our experience has been very pleasant and the staff is very easy to work with. The management team is very involved and responsive to their residents' needs. We see that they go above and beyond for their health and safety. The Avalon team members are donning personal protective equipment every day and working around the clock to keep the residents' spirits high and minds sharp. Their commitment to this community is amazing! We salute these heroes of The Avalon who show up each day with energy and enthusiasm, despite the personal challenges they may be dealing with at home as a result of this pandemic. They follow guidance from local health officials while still finding ways to help the residents; they engage them in meaningful connections, physical activity and they offer companionship, conversation, and smiles that you can still see behind the masks they're wearing.

Four months later we could not be happier with our decision. The staff, the facility, the activities and the care are all top notch! This review is regarding Activities Director Kay McMahon. Kay is a warm and loving person who treats everyone like they are her own parent or grandparent. You can see how much she cares, just by the way she looks at the residents and how she interacts. My Dad has been at Avalon since 2020 and weathered the pandemic lockdown. Even though there was a lockdown for a substantial period, Kay worked tirelessly to make sure residents were still able to connect with loved ones. Now that things have opened back up, she has several fun activities for the residents every day and also includes some community functions as well. Recently the residents donated several blankets to those in need this winter. Kay has definitely enriched my Dad's life and ours as well. Thank you Kay for all you do!

I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into the activities here. I participated in the pumpkin patch outside during 2020 - what a great way to raise money for the Parkinson's foundation while still being safe during the pandemic. I also had the opportunity to help donate some products to be sold at the Five and Dime store, which is just such a great way to keep residents involved and give them the chance to do some shopping too.

Following a brief hospital stay our father was moved to a severely understaffed rehab center. where the neglect was impinging on his recovery and even posed a danger to him. As a result we decided have him discharged early and moved him to Avalon. We were met at the door by Bryan who made our Dad and the entire family feel welcome and comfortable and, most importantly, that our Dad is safe here. I have read several negative comments and reviews and, yes, we did have a few hiccups during my Dad's transition period but any concerns were promptly and professionally addressed. For example, there was a less than seamless medication transition but this was quickly resolved. Or a missing closet shelf that was "cheerfully" replaced the same day. Neither our Dad or any of us siblings have ever been made to feel like we were a nuisance to any of the staff. Things can and will go wrong in any setting but I believe it is how you address and resolve problems that matters and we have been completely satisfied in that regard. Avalon is certainly not immune to the notorious staffing issues occurring in this industry and we have noticed some short-staffed days when things seem to take a little longer than usual. However, we have always found the staff to be professional, polite and most importantly extremely respectful to the residents, including our father. There have been times when he waited a bit longer than usual when calling for an aide but those instances are rare and for the most part understandable. I don't know where Avalon is hiring their aides but they all seem to be a notch above what we have seen in other facilities.They get their jobs done but are pleasant and cheerful while they do it and and always take the time for a little conversation to brighten up someone's day. They also seem to like and respect each other and to enjoy working together. The facility is fairly new and the common areas are beautifully decorated and clean. But when it comes down to it, the most important thing, for me, is that my Dad is in a safe place where he is treated with respect and can maintain his dignity, where the staff are kind and interested in him as a person and provide him a sense of relevance. Thank you Avalon for providing that environment!

My mother has lived there since before becoming the Avalon and I will just say that our family couldn't not be more pleased with the care and compassion that she and our family has received our the years . The staff is warm and friendly. The building is also clean and has a home like feeling. My family and I have watched my mother blossom and become active, at her last Assisted Living she was withdrawn and depressed . Since we placed her at the now Avalon, she is the social butterfly that we lovingly remember her to be . The activities department is honestly top tier . I can't say enough about great things about this community. I can only look forward to the things come now that the Avalon has taken over .

First and Main of Commerce has been a wonderful facility for my dad who is 87. The staff has been kind, helpful, gentle, inclusive and patient with both myself and my dad. We had one issue with my dad getting his medicine renewed about two weeks after he arrived. My dad was concerned and I called the nursing director, Mary, and spoke with her. She was on top of everything right away, contacting my dads primary care physicians office and the prescription provider, Omnicare, right away to solve the problem. Omnicare sent my dads medicine over that evening and all was solved. My dad tells me there is less staff on the weekend so things take a bit longer but he likes the staff and the other residents. He says the food tastes great and he loves the meals they provide for holidays and, or special occasions. He loves going down for lunch and dinner to the dining area and has made a new friend that he eats with. Bryan welcomed both myself and my dad into the First and Main family and has made sure he says hello whenever he sees my dad. The activity coordinator is fantastic! She continues to ask my dad what type of activities and, or hobbies he likes and even offered to make sure she rented any movie she thought he might like to watch. The maintenance staff has been quite helpful to my dad, helping him hang pictures etc in his room and checks on his whenever he walks by. I researched and visited several facilities in the area before I chose First and Main Commerce. Out of them all, I liked this facility the best. Im very happy that my dad is being taken care of and is interacting with staff and the other residents. Thank you, First and Main Commerce!

My parents have lived here for 2 years and we have been so happy. I see employee complaints but that happens anywhere. There are staffing and elder care problem in this industry PERIOD! It wont matter where they go unless its your house. From a families standpoint....we LOVE it here! They REALLY do treat our parents like family. The staff is kind, caring and fun like family with our parents. The management and upper nursing staff is attentive to your needs and takes care of any things that may arise. Brian treats your loved one just like his parent, making sure the transition is comfortable, he will run circles to make sure they have everything they need to feel at hone. They go above and beyond to find creative ways to keep our loved ones sane during this Covid-19 pandemic like bringing a cart around with home made donuts and cider, or with games and activities on it. Exercising in the halls with music etc...2020 has been challenging in this industry to say the least but even if they have people who quit and leave them with needing to hire more, Im happy to say they still put our loved ones first. I have cameras in their apartment and can see first hand how wonderful the staff is and that gives me peace of mind! Thank you first & main...we love you

Just to be clear, in case there was any confusion about one of the previous employees who wrote a review below - Preshus is not the same as Precious, who is still employed at First & Main. And Precious, is a wonderful, hardworking, compassionate young woman who we greatly trust and admire. Also, Matt is not a bad person. He is a kind and considerate man, who helps others each and every day, and has always been kind and considerate. I am sorry for the other persons experience, but they do not know him like we do, and their experience was misunderstood. First & Main is not just a facility, but a home. The people who work here genuinely care about their residents. Even after they move away. In our case, we had moved my dad to be a little bit closer to my home and when things went terribly wrong at this new facility, which put us through hell and did not care for my dad at all...Amanda & Brian at First & Main were there for us without question. They helped us to get our dad back to where we knew he would be safe, and taken care of. And he was. Every place has its ups and downs, but the true character comes from those who fight the storm and always do what is right. My sister and I are extremely grateful to the employees at First & Main. You care for our father like he is a part of your family, and we could not ask for anything more than that. Thank you!!! <3

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This is the place for compassionate, thoughtful care. My father was a resident at First and Main-Memory Care. The staff did a wonderful job getting to know him and tailoring activities to his ability and interests. He loved the food and friendliness of his environment, and all the grandkids felt comfortable visiting in the home-like atmosphere. When my dad transitioned into hospice care-the staff was exemplary in watching over him, communicating any new needs with me, sitting with him, assisting him with meals, making sure he was frequently turned, repositioned, and working along side Hospice to maintain his dignity in his last days. My family and I are grateful to this facility, the RNs, the MedTechs, and all the Care Staff. They made it possible for me to sleep at night knowing dad was in good hands.

I stopped by First & Main last week seeking info for my 90 year old mother. I was greeted at the front desk by an extremely knowledgeable receptionist. I requested information on their facility and was given a brochure filled with the preliminary information I was seeking, including detailed pricing. She offered to provide a tour if I had the time, but I did not. After reviewing the brochure I scheduled a meeting with Brian Neal for a tour which took place today. I was very impressed with what I saw and learned about the state of the art facility. And most importantly, the level of care offered is exactly what my mother needs, and has unfortunately has not been receiving at her current senior living facility - Brookdale of Novi. Its time to make the move to a happier, compassionate and more secure lifestyle, that I believe we will experience at first & main.
