My niece Angelic Hyndman is there. She is kinda there by not our choice. But she won't go back to where she was.. Laurels is wonderful place. I'm not there that often at all. She hasn't got allot of family. I have been trying to get her to South haven area closer to where I am. If your thinking of bringing your loved one here i would say it's quite the facility. They truly care about there patients.

My father is here. Staff is friendly and work hard, but seems understaffed to me. My Dad's Social Worker, Nick, is very helpful and informative. I'm an architect and see the facility is not up to today's design standards in regard to barrier free accessibility (ADA) and indoor air quality (ASHREA) and Life Safety (NFPA) standards. Patient rooms are double occupancy and small. Due to small rooms, the corridors have a lot of wheel chairs and convalescent equipment in the halls which impede emergency egress. I didn't see a sprinkler fire suppression system and the facility is Type V (combustible) construction. The building isn't broken up with firewalls and exceed today's allowable area for non-sprinkled building codes. The building was built prior to ADA being adopted in 1991. Bedrooms and bathrooms are not ADA accessible. The indoor air quality, mechanical system, needs more air changes per hour and better temperature control. Radiant baseboard heat only. No fresh air intake in the bedrooms. The bathroom exhaust doesn't work and hot water takes a long time to arrive at the faucet. The building envelope is not well insulated and the summer heat radiates inward noticeably. Dad's room is on a south exposure with brick veneer wall which absorbs the sun radiant heat and stores the heat which radiates inward to the room. It took a couple weeks to get a window AC unit. I was there in August and it was hot with heat index "feels like" temperature at 100 F with high humidity outdoors. I brought in a thermometer, and the room was 78~80 F. Looking for another place that has better barrier free accessibility, indoor air quality, and life safety compliance.

They definitely need more staffing. It's hard to come by this day and age. The meals are good. The rooms are on the smaller side.
