Reviews Sedgewood Commons

From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted warmly by all the staff. The facility is beautiful and relaxing. It felt like heaven on earth and very comforting for our family.

If you have a chance to place your loved one into the hands of the lovely people working in this nursing home, I hope you'll seize the opportunity. This is a lovely home for my husband, and has been, since the day he arrived. The warmth, the willingness, the compassion of the staff, from the top of the organization to the bottom, is limitless. They care, and it shows. Your loved one is never a burden to them; they never let you feel like a bother. It is professional, it is clean, it is home-like and loving. If you have the chance to view my review of Orono Commons, a "sister" nursing home, owned by the same organization, you'll see how dramatically different this place is from the other. Your loved one will be treated with respect, and so will you. I am able to rest easy at home, knowing he is as well cared for there. He has never complained, never asked to leave; that feels like home to him now. And that's an extraordinary blessing at such a time in your loved one's life.

The facility and care for my sister was fine. Our issue was with the lack of communication between the administration, staff, and our family. The facility's doctor only comes in one day a week, and the Social Worker works part time. When it came time to transfer my sister out of Sedgewood, the "goal posts" kept changing about what requirements we needed to meet for her to be discharged, so her transfer to home or another facility was delayed by almost three weeks. Meanwhile, the family was continuing to be charged for all of those extra days, and what should have been simple payment processing turned into a nightmare. The new facility had trouble getting the necessary paperwork from Sedgewood, and we had trouble getting information from the Sedgewood administration about what was going on. The day we moved my sister out, her health care staff had not been notified by administration that my sister was being transferred. To be fair, part of the issue was my sister's husband having his own health issues and changing his mind about what he wanted for her, but the lack of communication from Sedgewood with all of us compounded the problem far more than it needed to be.

I had the pleasure of visiting the community today. It is clean, residents and families were enjoying all areas of the facility - including the beautiful gardens before the day became too hot! Staff were pleasant and helpful; everyone I passed greeted me with a smile and hello. I really enjoyed my time there.

My elderly mother has been to four other rehabs and other than for her mild stroke this is the best care and informative place she has ever been too. They listened to what I had to say about what would work for her. Very impressed.

My First Day at Sedgewood From the moment I walked into Sedgewood Commons, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The facility is clean and well-kept”you can clearly tell that the housekeeping team takes great pride in their work. What stood out most was how attentive and accommodating the staff were. From rehab to nursing to the CNAs, everyone made me feel welcome and supported from the very beginning. I also had the opportunity to join a group activity, and I was impressed by how many residents were actively engaged. It’s clear that there’s a strong sense of community here. Overall, my first day exceeded my expectations, and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.

My husband stayed at Sedgewood Commons in Maine for approximately 11 days of respite care, and our experience on the Hawthorne Unit was exceptional from start to finish. Every staff member we encountered was kind, welcoming, and professional, creating a warm and supportive environment throughout his stay. While I wish I could remember and thank each individual by name, I want to extend a special thank you to the entire team. Jen in Admissions was incredibly helpful and compassionate, guiding us seamlessly from our initial contact through our departure. Rosie, who I believe was the charge nurse on the Hawthorne Unit, stood out for her warmth, professionalism, and deep knowledge. She was not only attentive during my husband’s stay, but also supportive as we prepared for his next placement. I also want to acknowledge Morey, the occupational therapist, whose dedication helped my husband make meaningful progress. Prior to his stay, he had nearly given up on walking. By the time we left, he was able to walk short distances again and had a more hopeful attitude about continuing his mobility journey. We are truly grateful to everyone at Sedgewood Commons for the care, encouragement, and dignity they showed my husband during his time there.

My first visit to Sedgewood to see my dad. I live in Georgia. I did not think the receptionist was overly friendly, but I did think the check in process was relatively easy. No one seemed to know where my dad was. We had to look for him. As my boys and I walked to find my dad, we met two staff who were very friendly. I found my dad in the TV room. A staff member suggested we take my dad to his room, so we could have more privacy, which was very nice, ecxept there were no chairs to sit on, which made it a very uncomfortable visit. My boys and I did think the facility was clean and that my dad was well cared for. ( Thank you )

My mom went into Sedgewood with dementia. The staff were absolutely amazing. They hug the residents and joke with them. Soothe them and redirect them , as necessary. When my mom went into Hospice, they were all so supportive and kind and thoughtful. And when she passed away a couple of weeks ago, they were endlessly supportive. This was the best possible place for my mom to have been.

I triply believe The ENTIRE staff treats My mom with personal care and support. The only issue (which is So important) is due to staff stretched thin is that her hygiene was not regular. Things like her hair is fairly clear or brushed and her finger nails.. overall the staff Is trying to do their best!!
January 2022
My uncle has been in Sedgewood for almost four years. The staff in the office, and the staff on the floor are absolutely top notch. During COVID, it has especially been difficult. Sedgewood has reached out continuously to make visits possible - when possible - and connected me with support zoom sessions as well. They go above and beyond both in their care and with their communication. I can sleep at night knowing that my loved one is well cared for.
February 2021
Lovely communities, beautiful gardens, and a truly wonderful team of staff to work with!
June 2020
My mom has been at Sedgewood Commons for over a year. She gets exceptional care there. The staff are respectful of the residents and families. They meet the residents where they are and provide what they need. I love the fenced private courtyards that each unit has. They are beautiful, with something always in bloom, and they provide easy access to outdoors for residents.
January 2020
Exceptional care! Our father was blessed to spend the last three months of his 92 year old life here. Our family couldn't be more grateful for the respect and care he received from everyone on the staff in the Hawthorne unit. Even after he passed, we received a beautiful card from every member of the staff sharing their condolences and memories. Our father had been in another nursing home where he was ignored most of the day. At Sedgewood, he received personal attention, a sense of belonging, food he enjoyed, and excellent hygiene. When we told the staff we were coming to take him out for visit, he was always perfectly dressed and ready to go when we arrived. Throughout his time, we appreciated the communication we had with everyone from the nurse to the aides. The staff are outstanding persons who seem dedicated to a high level of care and compassion.
December 2019
My mother has been there for 1 year and her care has been outstanding, The staff has treated her with respect and understanding and she has flourished and looks forward to returning after we take her out.The staff is dedicated and gives my mom a comfortable home and we are grateful to finally have a safe place for my mom. The Business Manager has helped with all are questions and is very supportive and caring when we are in need of help.Fully Recommend without reservation.
December 2019
My mother was a resident in a dementia unit at Sedgewood for a month, at which point we reluctantly moved her to a nursing home closer to where we live. We found Sedgewood to be very well managed, from admissions and care planning through discharge, and also found its staff very well trained to care for dementia patients. All members of senior management monitor the units, including making routine late night visits to inspect activities. The medical staff was scrupulous in monitoring my mother's health and well-being, and initiated various changes to improve her condition; I often saw them circulating in the unit, and most were warm and outgoing with patients. CNA staff receive regular training updates on dementia care, and most were very responsive in caring for my mother, who could be very challenging. I wish there had been more CNAs to allow for greater social interaction with patients, but the staffing ratio is the same as that found at most facilities. The facility is spacious, quiet, fresh, and clean (my family visited there 5 days a week at different hours of the day). Meals were healthy, ample, appealing, and tasty. I met the families of several long-term residents, and each of them was very positive about their experiences at Sedgewood. Like them, I came to feel confident that my mother was safe and well cared for there. I highly recommend Sedgewood.
December 2019
My father is a current resident at this facility. Prior to coming here he was not doing well in the hospital and people were giving up on him! At Sedgewood with attentive caring staff he has improved quickly! My brother can’t even believe the difference he sees between then and now. They keep us informed of the happenings and if they have questions they reach out and call. It’s great when I walk in and see him interacting with staff and he even has jokes! The facility looks more like cozy community rather than a typical nursing home. I’m happy he is here and I feel like I will have more time with him because of it!
August 2019
My mother in-law received a high level of care from a dedicated staff. They encouraged resident interaction and there are lovely outdoor garden space and large windows for a pleasant environment. Hospice came in and worked with the nurses to provide care and comfort until the end of life.

March 2018
My father ended up spending the last few weeks of his life at Sedgewood Commons. His care was superb. The facility was clean and well run. The staff were professional and caring. I am a physical therapist who has worked in long term care so I know what I am seeing. Thank you to all the staff here who made his last days memorable ones for all of us.
