Front desk extremely kind and efficient. Food is good but the menu is difficult to fill out. We had an issue with cash taken from Dad’s wallet. He no longer keeps cash unless it is on his person. Management has been responsive to concerns voiced. A nice play to retire but OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive for what is offered.

Last night we went to a totally free (for us) activity: a dinner and bingo night with some real prizes. The food was outstanding, fresh, homemade, and there was a variety to choose from. The emcee for the bingo made us laugh and was entertaining, and plenty of staff members circulated among us to answer any questions. It was a well-run, family event that brought generations together. My mother has lived there for nine years and it is hands-down the best value for the money. We are just glad to know she receives continuous care and monitoring for her meds and doctor appointments, has made friends, and has plenty to do.

My girlfriend's grandpa lives here and the staff are so friendly and respectful! I recommend this place for anyone who is looking to have great people take care of their loved ones. They even have family nights were they do little different events like karaoke and bingo too.

Great place for your loved one. My cousin has been here for several years now and the staff all know him pretty well. They take good care of him and give him the appropriate amount of privacy and independence that he desires while still giving him the care he needs. It's a tricky balance but he's happy there.

I have looked at places for my grandfather for more than 1 year and my recent experience was fantastic. I had a really good tour. The young lady at the front desk was nice and had a great smile. I visit my grandfather all the time to bring him coffee and cigarettes and although he doesn't talk much, he has never said anything bad. I like the place alot. Anybody need a place for their parents, grandparents, or even considering for themself, place is nice, and the food always looks and smells good. The deciding thing for me and my family was the young lady with the curly hair. She wasn't pushy and aggressive although she was much taller than me lol I felt like she really cared and that made a big difference. Thank you everybody! If I live to see another few years I'm sure I will need a place and I will definitely come here.

Although h we ultimately chose another community for financial reasons, ai felt it was important to leave a review because of the exceptional experience we had. We toured the place and it was even more impressive” just beautiful facility, warm environment, and a genuine sense of care from everyone we met. While we weren’t able to move forward due to budget constraints of our own, The Charleston left a lasting impression on our entire family. We are so grateful for the compassion and professionalism that e received, and would absolutely recommend this facility to anyone exploring options for their loved one. I love this place for my grandfather. There were two ladies that helped but our most memorable was Sharetha (I know I messed her up name again). She answered our questions and never made us feel like we were taking up her time or bothering her. We exchanged 17 e mails in 2 days and even when I didn’t understand she said it was alright and although she asked to call me, it was easier to write but I’m still pleased with her and the facility. If your looking for a place for your family members and have a good staff and isn’t expensive like others around Waldorf this is definitely the place. Thank you Charleston. Thank you Sharetha! I originally gave 4 stars because I didn’t like the pool is closed but 5 stars for all the other good things.

Update: A new management company has taken over The Charleston as of June 2025 and I sincerely hope they do not change anything! When you walk into the lobby of the Charleston you are greeted and helped immediately. There's also a screen that shows pictures of residents at the various events they have had there and everyone looks so happy. There's always something for the residents to do there-- they do not just sit in their rooms watching TV all day. You also see a lot of residents out and about visiting with friends, sitting outside and generally living life happily. The nursing team is fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about them especially Lala. They are caring, helpful and go above and beyond for residents. Let's talk about the food-- Chef Dave is always coming up with new meals for the residents as well as having old favorites on the menu. Have you ever heard of an assisted living facility with good food? I never have until The Charleston. The care they take with the food is unparalleled. Not only that, the residents get a menu every day to choose what they want! In the front office Patrick and Brooke are professional, kind and very helpful. Any time I needed help with something I just had to email or call and they would get it accomplished. I was able to coordinate new TV installations, eye appointments, and even an entire room change without having to go there in person. In short, The Charleston is a successful assisted living facility because they are not like any other out there. I sincerely hope the new management company takes heed of this because the facility and the people working there are fantastic. __________________ We live out of state and the entire staff of The Charleston takes care of my elderly Aunt's every need. They manage her meds, doctors appointments, everything. They have tons of activities, a movie room, a salon, etc. The price is right for the services they provide, in fact it was less expensive than two other places I called in LaPlata that I didn't even visit because of how poorly I was treated over the phone. The staff at The Charleston were pleasnt and professional from the first time I called. They have always gone above and beyond to make sure my Aunt is happy and healthy. I don't worry about her at all and she is happy. Bottom line this place is amazing! If you are looking for care for an elderly relative this is an amazing place.

My mother was at The Charleston for only about a month and a half. She was at the highest level of care due to colon cancer. The director Toni was one of the sweetest most knowledgeable people I have come across during this journey. She was so comforting and compassionate. She made the move so much easier. Every single staff member was outstanding, compassionate, and so helpful. I would recommend this place to whoever needs care. I was very satisfied with my mother's care and how they still were very nice and helpful after Mom passed. Don't know what I would have done with The Charleston

Currently, I am not happy with the administration and the acceptance process for getting an elderly loved one into the facility. The process appears to be drawn out with no communication from the administrations. Calls have been made and messages left but no follow up. This is not what I or my family expected. A non-refundable deposit was left in August and still no follow up between the contact person and the admin. This is unacceptable.

My mother has been here for a month and a half so far so good! The owner is kind as are all of the workers I have met. Some of the nasty reviews are just not true. It is a clean place, the food is cooked well and employees appear to be sober. An employee actually gave a bad review because they were told they had to come to work sober? If that was part of a comedy special on TV that might be funny but it is not-that is sad. 2020 Update to post: Okay the covid was a scare however this place was so wonderful in keeping it under control. It is sad the rest of the places did not have such great results. Maybe the Governor’s office can use this group as a prototype for success. Thank you Patrick and all employees!

I visited The Charleston when scouting out places for my grandmother. From the moment I walked in I felt very relaxed and at ease. The place was clean and the front desk receptionist was very kind. While on tour of this facility, Emily, thoroughly explained the ins and outs and answered all of our questions! I cannot thank The Charleston enough for all of their support in making this "hard decision" much easier on my family! Our Family loves it here!

Dad has been living at the Charleston for 3 months and we are very pleased with the care and attention he receives from all of the staff. EVERYONE is friendly and it’s obvious that they care about the residents and do their best to make them feel special and comfortable. A special thanks to Emily aka Millie 🙂 as she befriended Dad from the first visit and made this all possible! She has helped In so many ways during this transition and continues to help whenever needed. I often call the Front Desk or Nursing to check on Dad and everyone knows him and gives me an update. The food is delicious and the kitchen staff is so courteous.. they really treat residents as guests and we are always impressed when we join Dad for a meal. There are many activities for the residents and opportunities to socialize. The facility itself is beautiful inside. We visited 4 other Assisted Living Communities and decided this was the best one for Dad.... we made the right decision!

This place is phenomenal! October 2019, my mom started a month long respite visit, 3 months later she is still living there and loving it! She is doing amazing, she has met many friends and enjoys the meals, the staff and the daily activities. I honestly didn't expect her to stay after her respite visit but thankfully she did! Its great to know she is in a safe environment and is well cared for daily.

My mother has been a Charleston resident for over nine months. It has been a real Godsend, and we could not be happier with the quality of her care and the family environment. My mother feels pampered and loved and would not want to live anywhere else -- even with me!. All the staff go out of their way to be responsive to her every desire or need. We especially enjoy the benefit of being able to have our large family celebrations in the Charleston's banquet hall. The food is delicious, the room is beautiful and spacious, and the chef and his staff are very attentive. My assisted living years are still down the road a bit, but when the time comes, I pray that I will be able to live here!
