Reviews Lorien Mt. Airy
July 2026
I am a musician who works as a vendor in several different nursing homes and assisted living communities in the area. This spring I became quite ill and landed in the intensive care unit at Frederick Health Hospital. After 2 1/2 weeks as a patient there, I was told that I would need to have short-term rehab before I could go home. I asked if Lorien Mt Airy would possibly have a room for me, and I was told that they were one of only two places that would be able to take me as a patient because of the respiratory therapy nurses on staff there. Lorien Mount Airy has a trach unit and I was put in a room in that area because of my respiratory issues. I felt very comfortable being there because I knew that some of their respiratory therapy nurses have more than 20 years of experience. While all of the nursing staff was very good, Mark, Gabriel, and Ness were exceptional. The aides were attentive and very friendly and I really enjoyed having them come assist me when I needed it. They were always smiling and willing to help me. The Activities team is fantastic! Someone from that department would come to my room every day to let me know what was happening that day and then would come down to see if I wanted to attend the various activities and would take me in my wheelchair if I was able to attend. They were the friendly faces I needed each day and I am so appreciative of the work they do! They brought me yarn so that I could crochet and they brought adult coloring books and colored pencils at my request so that I had something to do besides watch TV all day. The physical therapists and occupational therapists that worked with me were outstanding and it is because of them that I progressed quickly and was able to go home after three weeks. With any concerns I had about anything regarding my care, I felt very comfortable speaking with whomever was in charge of that area and they listened and addressed my concerns right away. I would go to the lobby and play the piano in the evenings and the evening receptionist (Kim) always made a point of making sure I had whatever I needed and would get somebody to get me back to my room when I was ready to go. I just am so grateful to all of the people at Lorien who had a hand in my rehabilitation! I hope I never again experience the illness that I had but if I do then I certainly hope that lorien Mt Airy will have a place for me to recuperate.

Has been a wonderful experience for our family. My father is here for a short rehab and everyone has been great. Attentive and caring.
June 2026
My father was a resident of Lorien Mt. Airy for a number of years. He recently passed away there at the age of almost 98. I live out of state and would call my father every day. They always helped me get my father on the phone, which required their assistance. They were patient, took great care of him, treated him with respect and got to know him well. I could not be more appreciative of our experience with the staff at Lorien Mt. Airy.

I am writing to express our deep gratitude for the exceptional care of our family member, received at Lorien Mt. Airy. From the moment of arrival, the team provided outstanding service. Mark, Michael, Amy, Bethany, Gabriel, Hazel, Ness, Erica, Ann, Tessa, and Whitney all delivered wonderful, compassionate, and highly professional care. Their attention to detail and dedication were truly exemplary throughout her stay. A special thank you to Stephanie, who made the admission process significantly less stressful. While we were in New York frantically searching for a quality rehab facility near home, Stephanie was incredibly responsive, helpful, and reassuring. She handled everything with great professionalism and eased a very difficult situation for our family. We cannot thank the entire team enough. If you are looking for a rehab facility that truly cares and takes very good care of its members, I highly recommend Lorien Mt. Airy Rehab. Thank you again for all you did ” you made our family feel well supported during a challenging time

My mother moved in July 2025 and her quality of life has been restored thanks to the great staff at Lorien. From the move- in process, to proper meds scheduling, dining services, activities, housekeeping, daily caregiving and nursing, we have been very happy with everyone at Lorien. My mother is much happier with the personal touch they provide to her and the friendly faces.

I can’t say enough about the staff and the facility. Dad was there initially on rehab after a hip fracture replacement. The rehab team was great and he was making progress but his other medical conditions warranted a transfer to the hospital. After a month it was decided he needed to have hospice care and he wanted to go back to Lorien. It was anticipated it would be a matter of days but he actually remained there for almost 3 months until he passed. There are not words to express how much the staff delivered compassionate, excellent care. This caring was not only from the ones delivering direct care - it was everyone from the person at the front desk, to the activities staff who made a point to include him even those he was confined to bed, to the daily environmental staff. They coordinated seamlessly with the Hospice staff to make sure dad was as comfortable and happy as possible. Would definitely recommend the facilty!

The caring staff at Lorien were wonderful. My Mother was in the rehabilitation unit and transitioned to assisted living. The administration was wonderful in facilitating this move during a difficult time. The care she received was always excellent. Everyone treated my Mother with kindness and concern. Thank you.

Lorien has been very kind to my mother and she sincerely enjoys her time there. However, if considering joining the community, new residents should stay weary of the volunteer Chelsea. I have consistently witnessed her being unkind and/or forceful with my mother and other residents. She is not patient with residents. Her therapy dog is sweet but seems unfit to be around older individuals as the dog is unclean in the spaces (leaving saliva around the space for example) and the volunteer tends to shove the dog at residents. Otherwise, the staff are attentive and caring in all aspects and have made this a safe haven for many.

My brother has been a resident at Lorien in Mt Airy for almost 4 years now. Everyone is exceptional there. They take such good care of him. They do treat him like family. So many activities to keep him busy. He likes the food which is a plus! Last night he told me his foot brace broke yesterday and his power chair arm broke. I talked to him this morning. We were going over to try to fix the chair arm. He informed me that they already have someone coming out to fix the brace and chair today! That is awesome.

If you have been to and worked at different nursing homes, you would know instantly that Lorien Mt. Airy is different. It is very family oriented and home-like. The facility does not smell or look like a nursing home. The people who works there are very lovely and kind. I highly recommend this place.

My husband is currently at Lorien Mt. Airy after a stay in the hospital. He needed more care to become ambulatory and to resume his previous way of life. Everyone he has come into contact with have been very nice and attentive. They allow me to stay with him as long as I wish, and they have been as kind to me as they have to him. Lorien has many daily activities that patients and their guests may participate in. We would wholeheartedly recommend Lorien Mt. Airy.

I have been taking River, a therapy dog, to this particular nursing home for about 20 months. This is basically River's second family. He started his training at only 10 weeks old, going to the nursing home. He has practically grown up there. He loves each and every resident. They have definitely developed a huge attachment to my boy, and what a privilege it is for me to share him with them. River has visited for all major holidays and of course always in-between. The facility is always clean, and fun events are taking place. They go above and beyond to make sure everybody is having fun and their physical and emotional needs are met. The staff is absolutely lovely; it really is a family environment.

Our daughter-in-law brings her Great Dane, River, as a therapy dog to visit the residents. I was fortunate to visit last summer and was so impressed with the friendliness of the staff, their attentiveness to the residents, and the programs set up for those who lived there. Great all around experience!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this facility. I have been coming here for 19 months. The staff is always very attentive and caring towards patients. The activities director, Stacy, goes above and beyond to make sure there is a constant flow of activities and that everybody is having a good time. Macy also takes care of the wonderful residents. I always witness her checking on them. It really feels like a family environment.

Update 8/9/24 Our family member was a resident at Lorien Mt Airy for several months, and also spent time on rehab/skilled nursing side. We had nothing but wonderful experiences... from reception staff, admissions, nursing, the med tech, and activities director, billing, and all the staff on the skilled nursing side.. everyone was attentive, caring, responsive and very helpful. I would highly recommend Lorien Mt Airy to anyone who is looking for a loving place for their family member. We are so happy we chose them for a positive experience during a difficult time of life for our family. Thanks for everything Lorien. We are very impressed with Lorien Mt Airy so far! They helped us move quickly to get our loved one in by the date we needed, and the amount of coordination they have done our behalf with various providers such as the Doctor, NP, PT, OT, etc has been fantastic. They are really on the ball, and we've felt very welcome there, enjoyed the meals we've had there, and the residents seem to really enjoy the activities. Beautiful facility with wrap around porch, garden room, movie room, etc. Nell the admissions director and Kyle the Regional? manager were incredibly helpful and instrumental and getting some hoops jumped through quickly to accomodate our circumstances. Thank you all!! We feel very comfortable and relieved having him in Lorien's care.

I wanted to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Lorien, Mt. Airy. From the compassionate front desk (Audrey) to the nurse (Karen) who assessed my husband to (Nell), the director who worked with me on expediting the paperwork and admission process and continuously followed up with me. I was seeking respite care for my husband and Nell was outstanding in helping me navigate everything that needed to be done. I would tell the owners of this facility to keep these wonderful staff members!! Thank you!!!
