Unfortunately the medical staff in Assisted Living leaves much to be desired from my personal experience. Perhaps I have been here too long, but I've been experiencing difficulty in a number of areas in management as well. I am working with management to resolve what has bothered and annoyed me. Some of it has been taken care of. If you don't speak up, you're left in limbo! The major problem is communication!!!!!

My father has been here since March of 2024. The staff onsite is helpful and friendly. I like that all of the residents are included in activities, so that no one is alone in their room. I like that the residents all eat together. I like the activities offered, such as sing-alongs and games, which the residents seem to enjoy. I would suggest introducing yourself to the financial person/staff at the facility, as their billing/finance department is a nightmare. The incorrect info from the finance department is unimpressive. A personal relationship with the staff financial person has been very helpful to me. The facility is clean, bright and cheerful. it is not an easy time of life, losing abilities and agency, but Sunrise Montgomery Village helps it to be as pleasant as possible.

Sunrise's extreme fee increase without explanations or budget documentations. No detailed service descriptions, results, and need assessments by independent medical or state agencies. No individual detailed increase cost proof released to the sole payer, her retired spouse. Medicare Benefits not accepted.. Sunrise's monthly billing to the spouse has more than doubled in the past 6 years to average to more than $12,000 a month Years of documentation are available to appropriate agencies and Consumer Reports.

My mom, Beth, lived in the Reminiscence (memory care) neighborhood at Sunrise at Montgomery Village for a little over three years before she recently passed away from advanced dementia. Our family is incredibly grateful for the care and compassion shown by the caregivers and staff at Sunrise. From day one, they treated my mom with dignity, patience, and real kindness. The caregivers took the time to get to know her needs, preferences, and personal history, and that made such a difference in her comfort and quality of life. The team stayed in close communication with our family, keeping us informed and always welcoming our questions. It never felt like just a job to them; we could tell how much they truly cared. We want to especially thank her care team -- Roseline, Gladice, Gertrude, Danayi, Lazare, Michael, and Sandra -- for the wonderful care they gave her, along with Christene, who always made sure my mom had everything she needed. Knowing my mom was in such loving and capable hands gave us incredible peace of mind. We would absolutely recommend Sunrise at Montgomery Village to any family looking for compassionate, high-quality memory care for their loved one.

It seems a lifetime ago. Three plus years ago I was looking for a safe and caring new home for my sister who was no longer able to live on her own. I chose Sunrise at Montgomery Village for the caring staff, pleasant facilities and creative management. When it quickly became apparent that my sister needed memory care rather than assisted living, Christene Henlon, the Reminiscences Coordinator, took my sister in hand during a difficult transition period. She treated my sister with care, affection and sensitivity for the inevitable path we were on. She also monitored my own stress during this tumultuous time. I continue to have the utmost appreciation for the staff as they maintain a comfort zone for my sister and those who love her.

After visiting several assisted living facilities in Maryland my family chose this Sunrise because the staff is extremely supportive, warm and knowledgeable. The staff has gone above and beyond to make my Mom comfortable and to help us navigate any issues. Some pluses include onsite doctors, friendly front desk employees, excellent nursing and healthy meals that offer variety and dining options. We recently moved to a section with enhanced activities, which has greatly improved my Mom’s daily life and mood.

Our family had a wonderful experience with the care given to our late mother when she was a resident of Sunrise Montgomery Village Assisted Living from May 2024 until Sept. 2025. The building is very well maintained and does not have a "nursing home" feel. Rooms are large enough to bring furniture to create a comfortable living space. The food service was good and they are able to fill individual requests for meals, just ask! Above all, the caregivers and nursing staff are truly caring people who often went above and beyond to not just meet physical needs but to make our mother feel like a family member. Just looking at the number of years people stay employed there is a testament to their satisfaction with working there. Nurses and the Director of Wellness Center, as well as the 4th Floor Manager in particular were always responsive to our requests and made us feel certain that our mother's needs were both understood and were fully met. Above everything else, our mother felt at home and developed true friendships with her caregivers, nurses and fellow residents. Having toured other facilities and experienced care given in nearby rehab centers, Sunrise MV was by far the best assisted living residence we saw in both Gaithersburg and Frederick. We highly recommend Sunrise and know that when any other family member has a need, this is the place we will go.

Recently I was helping a senior friend look for an assisted living facility and although we ended up choosing a different place, Sunrise ranked in our top two! We loved many things about this facility. From the super nice salesperson (yay, Kim!) to the delicious food (kudos, Roger!), we were impressed. The facility is clean, staff friendly, and there is even a sweet resident dog, Dagwood. There are many opportunities for residents to interact and a great courtyard for outdoor mingling. They even have medical staff available 24/7! If you are looking to place a loved one in an assisted living facility, you should definitely consider Sunrise.

We are an extremely close family and when my father was diagnosed with dementia on the back of a cancer diagnosis, we were beyond devastated. We felt hopeless-we knew he needed extra care that we couldn’t provide as the disease progressed but we were broken-hearted thinking he’d be away from us, he’d never adjust to a facility, we would feel horrible every time we went to see him-we honestly couldn’t even imagine it. He had a terrible rehab experience at a senior care facility in Bethesda right before his time at Sunrise 2 months ago and we were honestly just bereft. From the moment we went to meet with Kim at Sunrise, we felt hope for the first time. She was so kind to us and we were immediately embraced by everyone there not only telling us he would be treated as family but we could see just from the interaction that the residents and staff were like a big family. Sara and Jonathan are wonderful (and Dagwood the family dog makes you feel like you’re truly at someone’s home as he lays in front of the fireplace!) Kim helped us to facilitate getting my dad there and welcoming him and us and making us feel immediately like we had found the place for him. I NEVER dreamed my dad would ever adjust much less within 2 months and now when we got to visit him (4-5 days a week usually as we try to let him continue to adjust and we adjust ourselves), he is usually found at an exercise class or he’s on a scenic ride or he’s proudly cleaning HIS room. The other day, my mom and I walked into him wearing a mask at a Mardi Gras party! My dad wouldn’t have done that pre-disease and he was happily eating cupcakes and watching the parade on TV. My dad hasn’t danced in years and not only did he dance a few times, my mom danced with him on Valentine’s Day and it was a moment I have on video I’ll never forget. The place is spotless and they absolutely encourage families to participate in any activity (I’ve got to say, I’ve enjoyed the trivia and batting balloons around and doing senior zumba and I’m not a senior!) My dad has never played bingo in his life and he is now proudly telling us about his bingo games when we go to see him. He’s so proud of his space and always shows us different things when we go to visit. The staff is absolutely wonderful. From the front desk staff to the staff on the third floor, everyone is so welcoming and we’ve come to feel like they are family. Christina, Akansha, Diamond, Oneda and the whole staff on the 3rd floor-they are absolutely wonderful. Christine comforts us with her expertise and holds caregiver meetings which helped my mother tremendously. Akansha keeps my father and the other residents entertained all day long and even if he’s in his room hanging out with us, she brings him ice cream and treats which makes his eyes light up. Oneda, BB, Diamond and the entire staff on the 3rd floor take care of my father with love and compassion and there aren’t words to thank them for care that is not easy. They make you feel like they are just caring for your loved one when in reality, they are juggling a lot of balls. The housekeeping staff keeps the place spotless and the maintenance team is wonderful. When someone has dementia, it is one of the hardest things you will ever go through. I honestly thought I’d never smile when I went to visit him at a memory care unit but my mom and I are smiling and laughing with the staff and the other residents whom we’ve gotten to know and their families who are going through the same thing. Words cannot express how much we appreciate everyone at Sunrise.

My husband of fifty years lived at Sunrise for the past two years of his life. He had had advanced Alzheimer's Disease and I can not say enough about the excellent care he had. The staff/caregivers always treated him with respect and attention to his health. I had the advantage of living close by and visited him almost daily. I admire Christine, Diamond, Wendy, and the other activity directors. The care givers Gladice and Harriet, Odade,and many others whose names have escaped me. Each and every one was a class A carer. The Sunrise Staff that created the fun Friday happy hours, the terrific festivals, the scenic rides, the music, the picnics were exceptional. The meal service, cooked in house contributes to the overall excellence. Thank you for being there for me and Ernie's during his last years.

My Mom has been in the Reminiscence (Memory Care) community for the last 4 months. I wanted to wait a bit before writing a review and the main takeaway for those making the difficult memory care decision is Sunrise at Montgomery Village really does feel like a community. My family looked at MANY different places before settling on this one. The feeling of warmth you get when you first walk into the lobby and especially the third floor is very authentic. After 4 months, I can tell you that the staff really do care. My mom was not always the easiest to deal with in the beginning due to her symptoms of dementia but with the care of the staff and their on site medical team, she has made a wonderful transition. Every time I visit her (1x per week) she is happy and active. I can call her and the staff hand over the phone to her (she would be unable to call me herself.) They communicate and send photos via the SmileApp which is a nice touch and of course they communicate any issues right away and call with a monthly update. She is always kept active during the day (which is something that other Memory Care facilities we looked at said they do but in reality do not) and she really enjoys the daily word and puzzle games. They have church trips, field trips and an on site salon for when she wants to get her hair done. I had a wonderful Mother's Day brunch with my Mom complete with some top notch food. Oh, and my Mom loves the food they have and always invites me to the "restaurant." She has made some friends amongst her fellow residents as well and they are so kind! As far as the staff...wow, just so many caring well trained members. Landrie, Christine, Akanksha, Sandy, Wendy and so many others have been wonderful and we appreciate all of them. Jonathan the Executive Director was so patient and professional with my mother as well. Raquita, who helped us in the beginning before we moved my Mom, really put our minds at ease by answering all of our questions. Quality Team and congrats on the Memory Care being recognized by US News and World Report. Well deserved!

We moved my father into the independent living wing of Sunrise at Montgomery Village two weeks ago. As expected, it was a trying and somewhat unsure process. The staff at Sunrise has been absolutely amazing. They will do everything they can to accommodate my father, and what he needs as well as family members who are helping to get him situated in his new apartment. The staff really does go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable. Reem has been absolutely integral in helping us make this move. She has stayed late on occasion to help Dad get acclimated on the dinner schedule, insured that his room is set up ideally and even helped with a few one-on-one tasks when he needed them done. Reem goes out of her way to make this easy and it is clear she deeply cares for the residents. This is the first time we’ve moved a family member to a facility like this and we were all very concerned about the transition. Reem has done an amazing job making everyone feel welcome and that is greatly appreciated. Lisa Allison is another manager has also done a wonderful job. We are looking to have a long and meaningful relationship with all the folks at Sunrise Montgomery Village.

My Mom is an Independent Living resident here (since September 2022?), and it's been the perfect place for her to call home! The Sunrise MV team are AMAZING. Everyone from the front desk to the executive leadership are incredible. They are warm, kind, respectful, trustworthy people who go above and beyond for their residents and their family members. They really try to put the resident's needs and we'll being first. They work diligently so that their residents are 'Living with Purpose". They walk the walk and talk the talk. (& Huge shout out to Reem for everything she does for the Indepent Living residents. She's always there to answer questions, to make sure everyone's got what they need. She deeply cares for her residents, and it shows. Thank you!) The facility and grounds are top notch, clean and safe. The activities (at least for the Indepent Living Community) are thoughtful, engaging, and dynamic. The food is excellent with good portion sizes (particularly the ice cream). Their medical team and care options are a plus, especially having Corewood onsite. The shuttle is a lifesaver! Thank you for taking such great care of my Mom, especially as I go back and forth between DC and California. It means the world to me. Sunrise MV is a truly special place where they treat your family like their family. Thank you!

Sunrise at Montgomery Village is outstanding in every department. My father initially went there as an Independent then to Assisted but eventually ended up in memory care due to dementia. At every level he received the care and support he needed to ensure a comfortable lifestyle. From managing his medication, providing nutritional meals, and engaging him in group activities they provided top notch care in all areas. During his last 8 months, with dementia getting worse and worse, the members of the memory care unit went above and beyond in looking after my father. He had two visits to the hospital during this time, and people with dementia can be tough to handle when out of their comfort zone, but upon returning the staff checked on him hourly to ensure that he was medically okay but to also that he was getting care needed to re-adapt to his current situation. Special thanks to Diamond since she and my father had a unique relationship from his first days at Sunrise and throughout his time in the memory care until he passed away this week. Also big thanks to Christine who managed the unit and Kelli who provided a ray of sunshine in his confused state of mind. Also would like to thank Cynthia at the front desk who was extremely helpful in his three moves to different rooms and was always there to answer any question we had. Sunrise was there when we needed a place for my father and throughout his 5 year stay they did everything right from the start. As you can see we are extremely pleased with the services Sunrise provided they would be given more stars if we had that option. Penny Mallory
