North Pines was such a great facility. It has a home like feel instead of a hospital setting which makes it more appealing. Coleen the owner was fantastic and she knows all of her clients plus their family members. Very personable, reliable, and caring. My grandma had the best care imaginable in her short time there. Angel, Lovely, and John were amazing and gentle with her. They loved her as their own family and we can not thank them enough. Jackie the office manager was also great and very informative! We were always in the loop. I couldn't have picked a better place for her care and end of life care! For sure a place you know your family member will be cared for and loved. I could leave her and never have to worry! ANOTHER BIG THANK YOU TO THEM ALL!!!!

As a delegating nurse who has visited many assisted living facilities in Maryland, I can confidently say that North Pines stands out as one of the best. The owner, Colleen, is deeply involved in the day-to-day operations and goes above and beyond to ensure the facility is always updated and beautifully maintained. Her dedication to creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for the residents is evident in every detail. The manager, Jackie, is incredibly diligent in overseeing resident care. She takes the time to understand each individual’s unique needs, ensuring that both the small and larger tasks are always met. The staff is attentive, compassionate, and truly dedicated to providing quality care. Staff training is also a top priority at North Pines, ensuring that safe medication administration and care practices are always followed, giving families peace of mind. We were so lucky to find North Pines tucked away in the heart of Manchester and I can’t say enough great things about this facility. Making the decision to put our loved one in an ALF was a difficult and overwhelming decision for us to make. We were apprehensive, nervous, and felt an extreme amount of guilt. However, all of our worries quickly changed after witnessing the quality of care the staff provided. From management to personnel, their patience, compassion, understanding, attentiveness, and empathy for all their residents was exemplary. It was heartwarming to watch each resident be treated with such dignity and respect. I was most impressed with the personalized care given to our family member and extra measures implemented when her health began to decline. Staff worked diligently with hospice to provide superlative end-of-life care. The facility was always clean and the common areas afford an opportunity for socialization and companionship. An added benefit is the intimate, homelike setting. The facility is beautifully decorated for holidays and each resident is recognized and celebrated on their birthday. We are forever grateful to North Pines and every single staff member who cared as much for our loved one as we do. We are blessed to have North Pines as a pillar of the community.

I have been extremely happy with my mom being a resident at North Pines. She moved in this past July after major surgery and processing dementia. She has received consistent high quality care and attention from everyone from the staff, doctors, and owner. I couldn't be more pleased with how well she has been cared for. The facility itself is very clean and adapted to suite all of the residents needs. The winter holiday party was a blast!!!

In September 2024, I transitioned my 65-year-old husband to Assisted Living. It was the most difficult decision I have ever made in my life. In 2020, my husband of only 13 years was diagnosed with early on set dementia and aphasia. Think Bruce Willis. Even with a caregiver four days a week for seven hours a day while I was at work, I realized my husband needed more care. Through Johns Hopkins and its affiliations, I was introduced to North Pines Assisted Living. As soon as I visited North Pines and met the owner, Colleen and manager, Jackie and other staff, I was confident that they would provide the care that my husband deserved. The house is bright, cheerful, and immaculate. It is beautifully decorated for the seasons inside and out. The meals are homemade, nutritious and yummy. The staff celebrates birthdays and each holiday with personalized gifts, treats and festivities. The staff is kind, capable and very caring. The medical support is tuned in to my husband’s needs. My husband requires lots of assistance and attention; I was extremely concerned that his challenges would be too overwhelming for the caregivers at North Pines. Colleen and Jackie not only comforted me; they assured me that my husband would receive the care necessary to keep him safe and content. Not only did they keep their promise with regard to caring for my husband, they surpassed my expectations. In discussions with family members of other residents who are familiar with other facilities that are nationally known, they have shared with me that the care and personalized attention is unique to North Pines. While I miss terribly the man that I married, I know in my heart that the man that my husband has become could not be in a better place. I sleep better knowing my husband is loved and cared for by the staff at North Pines Assisted Living. Thank you for helping us. Sherry

We chose North Pines for our mother because of the proximity to the rest of the family and the caring nature that was expressed. She was hesitant at first, but was calling it home within a week. She received constant care with compassion and understanding throughout her stay. My Mom passed in March of this year and her last wish was to be out of the hospital and back home at North Pines. They watched over her and made her completely comfortable for her final days. Our family could not be more thankful for the entire staff and all the care she received from North Pines!!

In 2020, I posted a stellar review. However, there are now new owners and my review is no longer valid. I just felt the need to inform potential residents. If you are placing your loved one here, keep your eyes open, ask for certifications of those providing meds and question everything even though you may not receive the entire truth. Over the past four years, I have had to address serious health and safety related violations at the end of old ownership and now new ownership. Positives are that there have been some renovations to the property, it is clean and the menu has been revamped. Most of the staff have been kind although we heard an uproar by an employee when Mom first had to use oxygen because she said and we heard that she was sick and tired of moving the oxygen. We were willing to buy extra oxygen and when the manager tried to address it, that staff member became very aggressive toward my sister so she was told to apologize. To date that staff member is still employed at North Pines. We have bought lots of extras to accommodate such as video monitor, humidifier, etc. but now not in use. There may have been positives but also serious cons. For instance, Mom was outside, fell and broke her shoulder while the maintenance guy was hired to watch her because the owner and manager were not there, her oxygen was shared with a sick patient who later died and then the manager (same manager under new and old ownership) never informed me about only to deny when I found out after Mom became ill and hospitalized (possibly a connection between sharing the oxygen and Mom’s one month hospital stay), Mom’s cell phone and prescription glasses were stolen, Mom’s meds were under her bed meaning med tech walked away after giving meds to Mom on several occasions, etc. The latest under new ownership is that since they have taken over (six months now), we never had a care meeting with the new owners on our concerns or how to best care for Mom. Instead, we decided to bathe Mom ourselves because they said that she kept declining. This is after I had someone show them how to nudge Mom to shower. Also, the new owner’s very first question to me was how much are you paying? More of Mom’s belongings are missing and the house doctor examined residents at the dinner table just before eating. I’m sure that’s a HIPPA violation but the manager did not see a problem with it when I asked and the new owner was also present during this. This remains to be resolved. As of this review, the air conditioning is broke and it is very warm and stuffy. Some of the same staff and manager are on the payroll so same facility but different goal, less compassion. Residents are looked upon as a resource as opposed to individuals who actually need to be cared for and helped. As told to me by the owner, they need to raise rates due to renovations, mortgage, pay increases, etc. Although this is certainly an understandable goal of any business, the rate increases were conveyed by being given mail immediately as you walk in the door with the rate increase letter on top of mail. I have never been given the mail before. In fact, I have had to ask for it. There is potential for this facility, but new owners need to focus on resident privacy and safety and fix the infrastructure of the business first rather than focus solely on cosmetic changes. There are leftover alliances between manager and a few employees with one in particular who together have made some detrimental decisions. I’ve actually seen them roll their eyes at the new female owner and then smile to her face. So sad, no respect. The female owner would have known all of this if we would have had a care meeting.
