My dad has lived at Kensington Park for the past 4 years. It is such a warm and loving place. The staff really goes above and beyond to make the residents feel comfortable and happy, and they are so kind and supportive to the families too. They make everyone feel special, valued, respected and loved. One thing that stands out is the fact that the staff foster community among the residents. When I was visiting assisted living places, it was the one with the most lively interaction among the residents. That is so important and my dad has made lots of great friends there. The calendar is full of activities every day, with a wide variety to appeal to lots of different interests. There are also therapy programs to help the residents with both physical and cognitive needs. The caregivers, nurses and dining staff are all top-notch, and the food is excellent. The buildings and grounds are also beautiful and kept meticulously clean. In addition to doing everything so beautifully every day, the KP staff have been incredible during the COVID pandemic. They locked down immediately, and maintained strict rules to keep everyone safe. They communicated at least once a week with families and were very creative about helping us connect with our loved ones when we werent able to visit. And now they have reached a 100% vaccination rate! I highly recommend Kensington Park. My dad really loves living there and I love knowing that he is safe and happy.

The level of care, and all-encompassing CARING, afforded us by everyone at KP was beyond any expectation we had. THIS is the most important criteria for choosing senior living. Many get side-tracked by modern furniture, fancy lobbies, and decor. While that may seem nice, it is the level of care that is first and foremost. KP provides care that seems to go above and beyond. When our family member could no longer remain in her home of 50 years we began looking for a community that might emulate the friendliness and caring of her friends and neighbors. We were extremely fortunate to find Kensington Park Senior Living (KPSL). The Highlands at KPSL, where our family member now resides, allows for independent living in an intimate setting (60-70 residents) with monitoring and support through ancillary services (Kensington at Home) as needed-desired. A visit to the Highlands is like a visit to a loving extended family. This sense runs from the management team, to nurses and other resident support teams, to maintenance staff. Entering the Highlands, you are greeted by a knowledgeable member of the staff at the concierges desk in a bright open area, with a balcony overlooking an equally bright lower common area where the residents gather either indoors or on the large back porch overlooking parkland. This lower level also includes a large TV-activity room, other smaller spaces (e.g., salon and exercise rooms), and a well-appointed and cheery dining room where three delicious meals are served each day. Throughout the Highlands, hallways are filled with artwork, and residents apartments are bright, spacious and well cared for. When our family member arrived, two and a half years ago, she was met with a plethora of interesting activities. These include movies, concerts, readings, exercise classes, knowledgeable speakers who were brought it to discuss current events, mental exercises of various flavors, as well as trips to museums and other area attractions. Pre-COVID-19, family members were encouraged to stay and dine, helping to further the sense of community. Every month residents and family participated in an extended brunch, a seasonal-themed event, or both. The atmosphere was further enriched by the participation of many talented family members in musical performances, discussions, and other activities. Additionally, themed ‘family days had been a regular event attracting grandchildren and great grandchildren to mix with residents from both independent and assisted living. Much of this, particularly access to buildings by family, has been pared down during the pandemic. With brighter days hopefully on the horizon and, impressively, over 95% vaccination of residents and staff by mid-February, this schedule should begin to ramp back up. Importantly, KPSL provides transportation to medical appointments and, again pre-COVID-19, KPSL also provided transportation of residents to the homes of families in the area and to local shopping areas and restaurants. Some of this transportation into the community is now gearing back up. During this last bleak year KPSL has been out in front of the curve in working to ensure the safety of residents. To provide means for families to safely interact with loved ones, as the incidence of COVID-19 increased, socially-distanced porch visits and other measures were instituted. Throughout, families have been kept informed of changes in policy, test results have been routinely shared (without compromising privacy), and families have been encouraged to contact staff with any concerns. The leadership exhibited by Mary Mell (Executive Director of KPSL) resulted in Mary being chosen as one of 100 Sheroes by the Maryland Commission for Women – a well-deserved honor. The relative isolation that so many of the elderly have endured during COVID-19 has been extremely difficulty on multiple levels. The outstanding staff of KPSL has shown its true colors through the extraordinarily thoughtful and loving support provided to residents during this time. If you are seeking a place in the DMV where you or a loved one can thrive in a family-focused environment, you should absolutely consider Kensington Park Senior Living.

I cant say enough good things about Kensington Park Senior Living. Our family lovingly refers to it as Kensington Palace aka The Palace. The staff is above and beyond at every level starting with Mary Mell who sets the tone, with the rest of the staff taking her lead with great warmth, caring and a high level of professionalism. My 96 year old beloved mother-in-law is a resident there. There have been life challenges that have all been well addressed and the family included in the decision making process each step of the way. In addition, the place is immaculate, the food well prepared and the grounds and decor beautifully designed. Then Covid hit. Suffice it to say there is no other place we would want mom to be. The staff has been incredible during these trying times and the communications with the family continue to be outstanding. When it is my time to look for a senior living residence, The Palace will be at the top of my list.

My Mom was a resident for the past 3 years at Kensington Park. She loved every minute of her new residence because it was her home. The staff could not have been more caring and loving. They treated her as they would have treated their own mother. All of the folks there ended up being like a family to me as well. The facility has lots of activities, transportation to local places- doctor stores etc. Mom met many new friends, and enjoyed her life as a resident. But The most important reason for remaining at Kensington Park was without doubt all of the caring people that work there. It isnt a huge institution, its just like home.

Kensington Parks Social Worker was very helpful in assisting us to move our mother from a rehabilitation facility to the Kensington Park Senior Living Memory Care Building, The Groves Building. She helped to communicate some of my mothers basic needs such as underwear supplies and feeding needs. The care staff are all lovely and show concern and effort to make the residents as comfortable as possible. My mother appreciates the music programs when they bring in outside musicians to perform for the residents. In a difficult decision, a year ago this month we brought my mother from Philadelphia, where she had lived nearly all of her life, to be near us at Kensington Park. That decision, though, turned out to be a godsend. I cannot say enough good things about the wonderful staff, the degree of care and attention Mom received, and the comfort it gave us, especially after she was diagnosed shortly thereafter with a serious illness. There are 65 residents at Woodlands, the assisted living facility; yet each, including Mom, were treated as their mission promised - to love, nuture, encourage and care for your loved one as they would do for their own - all with immense warmth, joy, dignity and respect. Well be forever grateful to Mary and everyone for the time Mom was there.

They knew mom so well, her likes and dislikes and always treated her with the utmost respect. In 2018, I moved my mother from the West Coast to The Woodlands with no prior experience with senior care facilities; I am so glad I did and am enormously grateful to the entire KP team for their help and support over the ensuing years. The K-Club is the only program of its kind that I found in the DC metro area to support residents with early stage cognitive impairment and Kyoko does an amazing job facilitating friendships and keeping the participants engaged with creative and interesting activities. I have found the leadership, nursing, and daily support staff to be nothing but kind, patient, and genuinely caring for residents who are not always at their best. In addition, as a family member and primary caretaker myself, the KP team has actively supported me as I have struggled with the inevitable heartaches and stresses that accompany witnessing a parents decline at this stage of life. I feel enormously fortunate to have found such a wonderful community for my mother to be a part of.

Each visit that our family has with my mother, and previously with my father, we see examples of this in practice with the staff. My mom has lived in the assisted living segment of Kensington Park for a few years and we could not be happier. She did not make the move happily, but everyone--from the director to her dining room waiter--went above and beyond to make her feel welcome, comfortable, and at home, and she is now content and active and enjoying her life again. Lots of the places we toured treat residents a bit like children, with crayons and glitter. Kensington Park recognizes that their residents are still adults who just need help, and activities and features are planned accordingly. Lectures, discussions, games, classes, clubs, outings and activities, music performances, movie nights, and daily happy hour (the highlight of every afternoon!) are all very much designed for adults who want to feel mentally stimulated and still contributing members of their communities. Every day is a busy day, every encounter is warm and compassionate without being overbearing, communication with our family has been top-notch, and medical care is outstanding. Care is for the whole family--they want to know how I am as much as how my mom is and there is a very strong support network here for loved ones. Holidays and special occasions bring restaurant-quality lunches and dinners for the whole family, and everyone is always welcome. They say the coffee is always on and they mean it, literally and figuratively. Kensington Park is a dream come true for our family and we are beyond grateful.

I spent the last 6 days in DC visiting my mother…..and I was absolutely thrilled by the way she is treated. I was also amazed at how well things are run, from the front desk (Carolyn is very nice) to the nursing staff, to the meals (wonderful food and such pleasant and warm people providing service)! It is also evident that maintenace is taken very seriously and very successfully. I searched for any thing that I could say was “deferred maintenance”……..there was nothing at all. One on day, following a windy storm, I noticed that one window screen had blown onto the first floor roof. I mentioned this to Jessica Power and the next morning when I arrived to visit, the screen had been reattached! Management people are warm and engaging to residents and welciming to visiting relatives. I simply can not say enough about the people who make this place a comfortable home for my mother! Thank you, all!
