My father was a resident at Heartlands for nearly 20 years. He started out in Independent Living. There are many positive things about Heartlands. The grounds are lovely, well kept, and it is secluded with lots of trees and wildlife. He lived comfortably in his cottage for up until April of 2022, and it felt like a real community. Although he didn't take advantage of the many activities offered, we enjoyed going to the family outings when my children were younger. There were a few minor issues when he was there, and he constantly complained about the food, but otherwise it was a good experience. Unfortunately, the three months he spent in Assisted Living were not pleasant. I did not feel that the Assisted living provided the quality of care promised in the contract. It was very challenging getting information from staff, there was no sense of welcoming or warmth extended to the family after he moved in, and the higher up nursing staff would frequently respond defensively to legitimate questions about his care. I had to go to great lengths to set up a meeting to discuss his care, and even after that the communication was poor. It seemed very disorganized, they couldn't tell me basic things such as whether he agreed to his physical therapy that day, etc. They were not proactive at all and it seemed only when they knew he was in the last stages did they reach out and recommend the hospice care that I had asked about several weeks earlier and was told "that's a family decision" even though he was in a facility that was monitoring him. By the time I connected with hospice, he died before they could be involved. I will say there were some very nice and caring aides who seemed truly interested in his welfare, and I give them credit as it is not an easy job. My suggestions to Heartlands staff: if there is family involved, initiate a meeting with the family when a resident moves into assisted living, or transfers from a lower level of care, and ideally once a month, and each resident should have one informed staff member to provide the weekly updates that are supposed to occur, and act as a point of contact. I'm sad to say that the last three months of his life at the Heartlands assisted living left me with negative impression of the whole facility.

When my mom moved to Heartlands, we knew she was moving to a lovely residence with fun activities, good food, beautiful grounds and facilities, active staff and a great location. What we have found over and over again is that Heartlands is all of this and more! The staff love their residents, they are treated like family. The staff protect their residents and did a wonderful job during COVID of upholding necessary rules and regulations but also addressing individual needs of the residents and their families. My mom has been a resident of Independent Living and now Assisted Living and I continue to be so grateful for our choice in selecting Heartlands. We want our loved ones to be somewhere safe where they can enjoy life, be supported and treated with dignity, and maintain a high quality of life. This is exactly what Heartlands provides! I only want the best for my Mom and that is exactly what she gets at the Heartlands!

Its so nice to have Mom close by. I am only 5 minutes away. She has been a resident since last October. Now she I settled and unpacked in her cozy little cottage. The staff is warm and friendly. The weekly newsletter keeps me informed. I sleep much better knowing she is safe and warm. Great place so far.

My Father just recently moved out of Heartlands Village at Ellicott City. I can tell you we are very sad to leave. Daddy spent 7 wonderful years in the Enhanced Independent Living community and made wonderful friends and lasting memories of good times. Recently, he had to move due to effects of COVID-19 and he will no longer be able to live independently. I thank Lisa Hines for listening to me share memories and allowing me to emotionally prepare for the separation. She has a kind heart. I will be forever grateful for the time and attention and the life that my Father lived at the Heartlands. We will come and visit when we can!

This is a great facility with a tremendous range of choices and activities. The staff are extremely caring and professional. The nurses at the wellness center go above and beyond their jobs to cater to the welfare of their patients. It is a clean building with walking trails, plenty of parking and easy access to restaurants, grocery stores and other amenities. Despite the large scale operation of the building, you never get the sense you are lost as everyone goes out of their way to make you feel special. It should be placed in high consideration when choosing an assisted living facility. They have a great staff and excellent support team

My mother is a resident at the Heartlands. From the day she moved in, I have remained impressed. Before COVID, there were many activities and events and the staff were always so inclusive of the residents. I always know that they will be there to help with whatever my mom needs. Since COVID, they have worked very hard to keep the residents happy and positive even through quarantine and isolation. They bring happy hour drinks, encourage zoom activities and, most importantly, they maintain transparency with the residents and their families. I highly recommend the Heartlands!!

My parents moved in at the height of the first wave of the pandemic and everyone was very welcoming and communicative in helping my parents transition from a single-family home to independent living. Hospitality is amazing, the campus is spacious, beautiful and green, and my parents love it there! We moved our parents to Heartlands of Ellicott city six years ago and this was one of the best decisions we ever made. Unfortunately my father passed away a year later but they allowed him to pass with dignity there. My mother continues to be a resident at Heartlands and the care that she receives is extraordinary and stellar. The staff really makes the residents at Heartlands feel like they are home. The staff mingle and get to know the residents. They make us feel very welcomed and check on us even when we are not staying at Heartlands. During the Covid-19 outbreak, I stayed with my daughter. They still checked on me and made me feel very special on my return. The residents are very nice and always eager to make new friends!

I moved my mother to Heartlands from Florida when she was 91. There was an adjustment period but because the staff is very responsive to, and interested in, their residents, my mothers transition was a great success. She thrives. The HeartLands location is excellent; it is easy to go shopping and easy to get items delivered. The housekeeping and maintenance departments are well managed. Foodservice is more of a challenge. Although the cooks dont always hit the mark, the servers are wonderful and go out of their way to make things better if a resident isnt happy with a meal. The Wellness Center staff is excellent and Administration highly competent. All in all, it is a good place for Mom. I have recommended a 92 year old widower friend move there - I think living at HeartLands would give him a new lease on life.

Although I live hundreds of miles away, the daily feedback I get from her is extremely heart warming, as is the feedback from my sister who lives nearby and is fortunate enough to visit. Having several medical issues, I want to live in an environment that provides safety and security. I find those things at the Heartlands Village at Ellicott City. Our Executive Director is very involved with the residents and tries to provide as much assistance to us as possible. He has been highly effective in keeping us safe from COVID-19. My family and I are very appreciative of this. I have only had a few questions for him about various matters and he is always prompt in his responses to me. He tries to be available to all of us as much as possible. The staff is remarkable in that they are very, very pleasant and attentive to the needs of the residents. It is such a pleasure to pass them in the hallway and always be greeted with a smile. They are happy to assist us with any issues. The residents are also very special. Again, it is a pleasure to see them too during the day and be greeted with pleasantries that come from the heart. We truly are a loving and caring family here. The staff tries hard to provide entertainment for the residents. We have many activities available to us ~ we just pick and choose the ones we would like to be involved in. My favorite? Daily Catholic Mass in our Chapel. It is very rewarding to attend. I always feel blessed that I can be a part of it. The only issue I have living here, and which I feel needs improvement, is the preparation of the food. The quality of the food is very good and always fresh ~ it just doesnt taste as it should. I dont look forward to mealtime and often prepare them in my own apartment. The kitchen and dining room staff work very hard though and are very pleasant and attentive. It is a wonderful place to live. Maybe not perfect, but then, which are?

I moved to Heartlands in November of 2018 knowing no one but . wanted to be closer to my family. Within a month I was fully involved with a myriad of activities in a super friendly community. The staff is just great. They care and show it. I chose a cottage and love having my own space including a nice sun porch, flower garden , and carport nearly right out the door. I am very happy and so glad I chose Heartlands.

My mother lived in an independent living apartment for 4 years. Her apartment was clean, spacious, the meals were very good, and she enjoyed the other residents around her. She and I both appreciated Connie, the woman at the hair salon, and the women who planned the day trips. Either my daughter or I accompanied Mom on many of the fun trips. My only frustration was that my mom had Alzheimer's Disease and couldn't remember to take advantage of the various daily activities on the grounds. I asked several employees multiple times if there were a way to remind her (maybe even with a buddy system), but I was told that since she was in independent living there was nothing they could do. Maybe this scenario would have happened anywhere, but it was frustrating because Mom was sociable and friendly and would have liked to be more involved. Instead, she spent much of her time alone inside her apartment watching TV or reading.

After reviewing several assisted living facilities, we moved both my parents into a couples residence at Heartlands Senior Living in Ellicott City. The most compelling argument I can make for Heartlands would be the outstanding medical care my parents receive. Both parents are frail and the daily medical attention provided has been outstanding. The entire medical staff has been helpful and has gone above and beyond, including when mom was in the hospital for a recent heart surgery. The Heartlands medical staff helped us navigate that significant medical event and several others. They are a top shelf team. The food at Heartlands has also met expectations. My wife and I and our kids have eaten at Heartlands several times with Grandma and Grandpa and we have been very satisfied with the quality of the food. The calendar seems to always have entertainment for the residences and Heartland “bus” is another very positive amenity. I would strongly recommend this facility and truly feel this is a safe and pleasant environment for my parents to reside. /eak

Heartland's Village is an outstanding place for your loved one. I have experience with many assisted livings, and find this has to be one of the best! The staff is courteous and friendly every time I come by. They also take pride in caring for the residents at a very high level. They take pride in offering the best care for the residents and they fulfill what they offer! They offer many groups/activities and I often see them bringing smiles to many faces. All of the care and services they offer to the resident's are all top notch and very professional. This is a great place and the location can't be beat. I would highly recommend this facility, you will not be disappointed!
