Choosing an Assisted Living /Memory Care facility for dad was one of the most difficult decisions we ever had to make. Where he would spend the final years of his life is overwhelming and emotional. The problem is they all offer the same services-from multiple daily activities, to a variety of meal choices, to nurses and aids on staff to care for your loved one. Plus, they are very expensive and none of their services are covered by insurance! But the best decision we made was to choose Traditions of Dedham, for three critical reasons: First and foremost is the staff. From Laura P the director of memory care to Ashleigh in charge of nursing , to the most caring and responsive Melanie, to the day to day activities team of Laura G and Tianna, to the day-to-day aids that ensured dad was clean, clothed and fedeveryone one of them treated dad with respect, love and as an individualas if he was their own father or grandfather. They were amazing! Second, was the nursing staffs’ insight to recommend that caring hospice team treat dad a year plus before he passed. Nurses Michelle and Hannah were outstanding! Their gentle professional approach ensured dad was always given the highest level of medical care whatever the issue was. From a common cold to his mental and physical decline over the months, we were confident that dad was never in pain and always had the best care. (And given his frailty, they came to him every week. No longer did I have to take dad out of his environment and drive him to his doctor’s appts, urgent care etc. It was a blessing on so many levels.) Finally, whenever I had a question/issue about dad I could ask anyone caring for him and receive an immediate comprehensive answer. (This was not the case when dad broke his hip, had to go to a rehab facility. At rehab, each person was in their own silo. Nurses, PTs, OTs, and others were knowledgeable only about their own areas. It could take me hours to piece together a full understanding of dad’s progress or lack thereof.) A sincere thank you again to the entire staff at Traditions of Dedham for making dads last two plus years the very best they could be.

Traditions assisted living was wonderful for my dad. Although he had some difficulty adjusting at first, we and the staff made him feel right at home. Between activities, food, and the tv in his apartment, he fit in perfectly. Eventually, it was noticed (by our family, as well as staff) that my dad could not be in an apartment on his own. We did not want to uproot him and, to our relief, a bed was available in the memory care neighborhood. Although another not-so-easy transition, we did it! Between our family and the staff, my dad adjusted well. He's still right at home in Traditions.

It's always a joy to visit my friends at Traditions. Last month I presented a program entitled "The History of Cheese", but it was the staff and residents who took the program to another level. Chef Bill and the amazing staff members provided individual fondue plates to guests during an introductory film, followed by cheese samples to taste matching the program content. This participatory event encouraged the sharing of stories and anecdotes from attendees, and even a recipe for traditional Lebanese cheese making was offered by one of the residents! Fun was had by all. The sense of community is truly genuine and I look forward to my next visit!

I’ve bn having difficulties getting any info for a neighbor whom is interested yet doesnt use internet and would nvr set appointment or call unless i believe she had such information on independent living. We are so lucky to have the opportunity to partner with Traditions. We are a Preschool- Grade 8 school. We have had many wonderful visits from Traditions. Most recently, we partnered with Traditions to hold a fundraiser for Alzheimer's research. Our school Flag Team had the honor of receiving an American Flag lapel pin from a resident Veteran. It is clear that the staff is attentive, caring, kind and respectful of the residents. The residents are happy and engaged when they are with the children. At our school, we feel strongly this collaboration is a vital part of our students' learning. Our youngest students look forward to seeing their "friends" from Traditions.

I read in the Dedham transcript newspaper a few weeks ago that Traditions of Dedham a senior living facility was offering a flower arrangement class for Dedham seniors first come first served. I called and luckily I was able to get on their list of attendees. Let me tell you it turned out to be a fabulous event. The staff their the director of activities Russ Wilson, Marcia who conducted the class as well as several volunteers were all part of the event. Everyone was very friendly, inviting professional and worked well as a team. You could see the dedication and fondness they all had for the residents. There were multiple choices of flowers and embellishments and a glass vase all offered at such a great priceFREE! They also offered everyone a delicious holiday drink with an oversized ice cube infused with cranberries, an orange slice, a cinnamon stick and a spring of greenery. Here I sat in the middle of the afternoon, enjoying myself with all the lovely residents and their family members and Dedham Seniors slipping delicious cocktail while making a flower arrangement. I felt somewhat elated going home with my beautiful flower arrangement in hand after spending a fun time with everyone I met that day. I can’t wait to see what they will be offering next.!!

5 Star Rating is what I am giving Tradition’s of Dedham. My mom at the age of 97 was no longer able to stay alone in her home after a fall that landed her in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. I looked at several Assisted Living Facilities around the Norwood/Dedham area. As soon as my brother and I drove into the facility we both had a positive feeling with the buildings beauty along with its landscape & USA flag flying free. My mom has a beautiful and safe 2 room apartment that she says it’s just like my home. I cannot emphasize what a wonderful, caring, honest safe place for my mom to be living at this stage of her life. We are forever grateful to all of the management staff at Traditions for their professionalism, kindness, and positive ways with assisting myself, my 7 siblings and most of all our mom to adjust to her new home. Mom’s daily caregivers are kind, knowledgeable and educated in elder care. It is amazing to see mom cared for with respect and kindness. I praise those involved in moms daily care 24/7. From the front desk secretary,(all secretaries) the maintenance dept, housekeeping, Activity Dept, Management, Nursing Dept and the top quality Food Service are are superb especially during these difficult times of Covid. Also they have the Best Occupational Therapist from outside agency Carrieshe is remarkable and they also have Physical Therapist. They know my mom and always find the time to accommodate her needs or wishes! It is a very difficult time for mom to leave her home as well as a very emotional time for her and her family.it has been a year now that mom is at Tradition’s and I praise all those involved in our moms care..hence the 5 Star rating.Thank you is not enough..Carolyn Vanasse Murphy

Traditions of Dedham is a very warm and friendly environment. The minute you walk into the fantastic lobby you are greeted with people who really enjoy their job. The staff there are very dedicated to their jobs and from experience enjoy working with the elderly. The accomodations are exceptional. Every day there is a list of activities for all the residents. I am very impressed with their attention to detail in everything they do. My family and I was recently invited to their Christmas Open House and what a presentation they did for the event . There was the excellent food they presented from their in house chef and the entertainment was phenomenal. My family is very happy that we choose Traditions for my mother as she could no longer live by herself. Please keep up the great work you are doing for your residents. I know it is the hard at times to accommodate the elderly and you have to have a unique quality to accommodate their needs at very unique time in their life, you accomplish that very nicely. Please keep up the great work. We very much appreciate it. Shout out to the executive staff and the aides who are a credit to their profession.

Everything about Traditions of Dedham far exceeded our expectations. The staff is incredible - they are talented, friendly, and went out of their way to be helpful in so many ways. The activities they offer the residence is outstanding, and they included all kinds of interest that people might have. Not only did they keep give the residence opportunities to enjoy being with other residents, but they offered numerous and varied activities every day. The staff that manages the activities encouraged everyone to participate and made it so enjoyable. We were amazed at the quality of the food and it’s presentation and variety. Dining there is truly dining, and it was as good as any restaurant quality. All of the staff there was truly outstanding. I know I’m using a lot of positive adjectives but that’s the way I feel about Traditions I hope when I need to have assisted living, there will be room there for me because I would love to spend time there. My dad has been a resident at Traditions since early July, at the age of 85 and after 15 years of stubbornly independent living in a cramped, dirty, and lonely old apartment. After I took his car keys away from him in November 2022, I found myself spending a lot of time trying to keep Dad fed. Meals On Wheels helped with that a little bit, but it was still burdensome, and he had had a couple of falls at his apartment as well. That’s when I got serious about finding his next & forever home. I finally had no choice after he had another fall in June - his 4th fall in about a year. This time, he fractured his neck and was in the hospital & then rehab for about three weeks. Perfect opportunity to get his next residence secured, as I really needed to place him where he would be safe, well-fed, and looked-after. I knew Traditions was where I wanted him to be as soon as I toured it in November 2022. The burden of the day-to-day care for Dad has greatly reduced for me. The staff at Traditions helped him quite a bit while he was still recovering from his neck injury, while at the same time trying to acclimate to his new residence. They helped him with showering & dressing, making his bed, reminding him about meals and prescriptions “ what a relief to have such a caring & supportive team looking after Dad. He’s eating three squares every day and putting back on some weight that he’s lost in the past couple of years. He’s working with a physical therapist as needed, and overall, his mood and his health seems to be improving. In due time, he’ll have a routine and will have certain friends that he’ll have meals with or go to activities with. But in the meantime, he’s healthy, he’s safe, he’s being cared-for and looked-after, and that’s worth every penny! His one-bedroom apartment is clean, bright, spacious, and well-maintained. Can’t say enough good things about Traditions “ the facility, the staff, the management, and the food are all excellent.

While I can't vouch for resident apartments, I can tell you that the building is lovely. The activities department is fantastic and obviously cares deeply for the residents. I don't know what kind of metric other people use, but I think employee retention is a huge thing. I have been working with the same employees of the activity department for the entire time I've sung there. Over 7 years. They know every resident and clearly have personal relationships with them. To me, that speaks volumes.

My mother was living independently in her own apartment, but she wasn’t thriving. We urged her to move to Traditions, but she gave us a lot of pushback. Then, she took a fall in her apartment, and we made the decision to move her while she was still in the hospital. When she first got there, she was angry, but after a few months, she thanked us. Now, every time we call her she is so happy. We don’t have to worry that she isn’t taking her medicine; we don’t have to worry that she’s lonely; we don’t have to worry about her watching TV all day. She’s made many new friends and she participates in all the activities. It’s really been a relief for our family to see her so happy and we would recommend Traditions to anyone.

My mom is currently a resident of Traditions - has been for about a year now, and she is absolutely thriving there. I can’t say enough positive about this place. She has a lovely, private room. The nursing staff is attentive, thorough and friendly. The food is delicious and served in a large dining room with lots of windows. There is a pub where happy hour is served a couple days/week that she loves going to. The front desk is well staffed, friendly and responsive. The maintenance staff are helpful and timely. The activities director and his staff are incredible. Every day a sheet of paper is delivered to my mom with that day’s activities. She goes to exercise class every morning. On a recent visit I heard a live guitarist/piano player perform Irish and other music in keeping with the upcoming St. Paddy’s Day. Live music is a common occurrence at Traditions. They also have trivia, art classes, sing-a-longs, and bus trips ” to see a movie, attend a show, visit a museum, or to just go to the grocery store. All of these activities keep my mom interested & engaged. She is having more fun than we could have imagined at this time in her life. Thanks to the staff & management of Traditions for creating such a well managed, healthy & fun environment where we can feel confident that our mom is safe and well cared for - much appreciated!

Traditions is beautiful, bright, and a welcoming community. You feel as if you are at home as soon as you enter. My dance ensemble performed an hour dance concert for the community at Traditions of Dedham. The staff was very friendly and helpful setting up the space so that we could perform. Residence were well informed of the show and were assisted in finding seats. The residents themselves also enjoyed and appreciated the performance and we had a nice talk back at the end of the show with residents. It would be amazing if this great community could receive funding to create a larger theatrical performance space.

My Mom has been at Traditions of Dedham for the past three years and I can say that her quality and outlook of life has improved dramatically. Prior to her stay, her outlook on life was very dim. She was alone most of the day and had difficulty preparing adequate meals for herself due to age and physical restrictions. She was very depressed and would refuse to get involved in senior activities because she had to rely on family members for transportation and did not want to be a bother. She had lived in the house that our father built and we all grew up in for the past 63 years. Being a widow for 15 years seemed to start a downward spiral to her depression and outlook on life. She was always sad and constantly was living in the past wishing that she could have Dad back and would dwell on past family good times. Conversations with her would always revert back to Dad and other deceased family members. Through a friend, we learned of Traditions of Dedham and set up an appointment to bring her there for a tour thinking that she would see what assisted living was all about but she would never leave the family homestead for a new life even though it would improve her quality of life. We were given the tour and treated like VIP’s by the administration and staff. After sitting in the dining room, we asked her if she would like to try an assisted living way of life. We were shocked when she said she would. As a result of her becoming a resident at Traditions Of Dedham, she has become a new person. Her outlook on life has improved dramatically. She has become a much happier person. She has social interaction with other residents and staff. The staff is wonderful with having activities everyday to keep her entertained and gives her a purpose in her life. She especially enjoys Wi bowling and games that the staff comes up with. There is entertainment on a regular basis that comes from talented residents and also outside entertainment. When we take her from Transitions for family events, we’ve noticed that she is anxious to return to Transitions to socialize or dine with her friends. We never thought that that would ever happen. The dining room serves delicious and nutritious meals and does a great job on special occasions and holidays. The wait staff is very personable and learns the likes and dislikes of the residents to better serve them. She has her regular group of friends that she sits with in the dining room everyday. The administration of Traditions takes a personal interest in each and every resident and takes the initiative to get to know the family members on a first name basis. It really makes you feel that you are a part of the Traditions family. Recently Mom was hospitalized, and the Administration and Nursing staff met with hospital staff to plan and make her return to Transitions as seamless as possible. I can’t say enough good things about Traditions of Dedham. Everyone is so nice and it has given my Mom a far better quality of life. She’s happy, not lonely and looks forward to life instead of looking backwards and wishing she could change things past.

"Traditions" has been a wonderful fit for my father Russ (pictured with his son and grandson), who has been a resident for 2.5 years. It was difficult leaving his home of 35 years, but he wanted to stay geographically close to the town (Westwood) where he coached baseball and taught physical education. To be able to attend retired teacher luncheons and bump into former students has been important aid to his move to assisted living. Perhaps the greatest benefit for "Coach" has been the new friendships, daily activities, and the structure of this community. Having a daily routine has always been important to him, and with the onset of cognitive/memory issues, this structure has been even more important to making this place feel like home. Traditions of Dedham is not just an assisted living facility... it is a HOME . My mom has felt at home there from the day she arrived. The decision to move to Traditions of Dedham was made in November, 2016. Though we did not visit other facilities , this warm, and nurturing atmosphere was felt as we walked through the door. Having grownup in Dedham, we knew Traditions of Dedham came highly recommended. Since my mom is legally blind, she is not able to do many things by herself. It didn’t take long for the staff and caregivers to embrace my mom and give her the assistance, when needed, to feel safe and comfortable while being able to maintain her independence with dignity. She loves each and every caregiver that comes into her apartment. And many feel as close as family to her. My mom is truly living life to the fullest now! She has made many new friends, participates in a multitude of activities, and enjoys deliciously prepared meals. Traditions of Dedham continues to strive for excellence with giving their residents a voice in how their community is run. Thank you to all at Traditions of Dedham. It pleases me to know that you all continue to do such a great job in making my mom feel so special. It is with no hesitation that I highly recommend Traditions of Dedham.

I looked at many facilities before deciding on Traditions and I am so glad I did. My mom started in the assisted living area where she made friends, was fully engaged and very happy. Traditions of Dedham has been a wonderful home and environment for my mother on every level. She's been here over six years and the entire staff has accommodated any possible need. The front desk, marketing director, executive director, business office, nurses and aids, maintenance, activities director and dining room director have all exceeded our expectations! This truly is an assisted living that looks out for every single resident...checking in on my Mom and always aiming to please! The entertainment exceeds all expectations. The annual Christmas play is exceptional...our entire family loves to see Gary Poholek performing "A Christmas Carol" every year...it truly is such a special treat...and brings a big smile to all. The annual Luau is also a spectacular event...with a fine array of food and wonderful music; it's festive and fun for the residents and their entire families! My mom truly feels like she has a second family...we're all so thankful to each and every staff member that is a part of our mom's life...she's in the best of hands...we couldn't ask for a more kind or thoughtful family!

Traditions of Dedham is an amazing place. My father-in- law has been living there for over five years and our family can not be happier with his care. Traditions has an amazing staff that cares above and beyond about the residents. The activities staff and the daily events both on and off site have the residents engaged in so many activities there is never a chance to be bored. The facility is spotless and his apartment is cleaned weekly. He also enjoys all the dining options. Traditions is a very special place.

Where do I begin? The biggest struggle of my life was figuring out how/where to care for the person who gave me all of my values. I was lucky...my mom had this great friend/advocate through the years - Deb Greenwood...and I grew up with Deb's husband and his amazing family. I knew that she would not be affiliated with any fly-by-night organization. I transitioned my mom to Traditions almost 2 years ago and I can say that she has been loved and cared about every second of every day. Alzheimer's/Dementia is not easy to accept or handle...the kindest caregivers are those that I have come to know & adore over this time. Ashleigh, Laura, Mae, and EVERY aide (I apologize if I have missed any names) have given my mom the highest quality of life. There are always challenges at any memory care facility. Traditions has exceeded any expectations that I had and I would want nothing than the current care for my mom. We had a recent challenge yet the people at Traditions have done everything possible to allow my mom to go "HOME" and for that I am eternally grateful.
