I would give more stars if it were possible. My sweet mother was a patient in this facility for only a short time however, the kindness was incredible. They took the best care of her from the moment she arrived until she went to be with Jesus. Thank you so much!

When your loved one is getting ready to leave this world you want the best for them when it comes to comfort and care. It is extremely difficult to make the choice of placing your loved one in hospice and there are a ton of questions. Bennetta Smith thoroughly explained everything to me from how the transport goes from the hospital to Carpenter House and everything in between including all of the paperwork involved which she made extremely easy. Our father was moved here on December 31, 2024 and passed on January 16, 2025. The facility is clean, professional and looks new. At no time did myself or my brother leave our father unattended one of us was always there however, there were others there that their family was not able to stay with them at all times. For those that are not able to be by their loved one’s side at all times you can rest assure they are being taken care of at all times here. At no time was he in any pain, or uncomfortable. He was given his comfort meds anytime he needed them without hesitation. He was never wet or dirty and was tended to at all times. You are allowed to come and go at anytime day or night. We wanted to thank the following for providing our father with the upmost comfort during his last days. Jennifer Collins, Tasha Bagley, Kayleigh Jackson, Betty Moore, Mary Guinea GG , and Malory Gill . If I forgot anyone it was not intentional. I wanted to bring special attention to Mrs. Tasha who went above and beyond and has found her true calling. She would come in and talk to him, smile at him, hold his hand and pray over him her voice is so calming. He had severe dementia and was unable to respond except with his eyes and when she would talk to him he would raise his eyebrows at her and blink in response to a yes. If we had any questions about how this process is our questions were also answered in a genuine care response that was also honest including what happens at their last breath . I will also forever have in my core memory one of the days my dad needed to be moved in his bed and Jennifer Collins came in and cradled him in her arms like a newborn baby. The staff would always make sure to turn him several times a day to make him more comfortable as well. He had daily baths and oral care. They even gave us a pamphlet that explains what to expect from start to finish. The day our father passed as he took his last breath we gathered around his bedside and a family member left the room to get Tasha who was there within seconds. She lovingly confirmed that he was gone and told us we could have as much time as we needed with him as she took care of everything else such as contacting the coroner and funeral home for us. 3 weeks after our father passed Beryl Cowthran with Carpenter House reached out to see if we needed grief support which is also available for a year for your family at no cost if you need it. She was so kind and sympathetic and even though we declined the generous offer she still listened to what I was feeling that day and brought me great comfort. If you are having a difficult time trying to decide where to place your loved one for hospice I highly recommend Carpenter house and their staff. We can’t thank you enough for taking such great care of our father and making sure he was always comfortable!!!

This place is the worst, to say this is a hospice facility. The people are unfriendly and seems as though they really don't care and especially those that sit at that desk near the entrance. It doesn't say much when you entering in. I had a love one to pass, there and I knew of someone else had someone to pass there just recently and they expressed the same sentiments about this place. Things have to change there and soon. Where is the compassion and love, and not just for the patient but there is no compassion shown towards the family. No communication either... It's sad...This was my experience and it wasn't pleasant. This was within the last 6 months. If you are not loving, compassionate, and caring you dont need to be in this field of work. Please give this your prompt attention....

I would like to express my gratitude to the St Joseph Hospice - Carpenter House in Shreveport. They provided compassionate end of life care for my wife. The nurses, doctor, and staff treated my wife and family with the utmost respect and dignity. I would also like to thank the bereavement coordinator for keeping in contact and checking on my family and I following my wife's passing. Thank you

Our special needs son Ken was a patient in the Carpenter House in Shreveport, and I am extremely grateful for our experience there. The medical directors, nursing staff, nurses’ assistants, chaplain, and volunteers were so very kind and compassionate to both Ken and me while we were there. Since I’m not from Shreveport, I fully expected to feel very alone while we were there. My fears of feeling alone and homesick were quickly negated by the love and kindness shown by the staff as soon as we walked in the front door. Ken died on February 3rd, and I feel blessed to have experienced the Carpenter House. To me, the Carpenter House in Shreveport represents the epitome of hospice care.

The Carpenter House was everything we wanted and more in a hospice facility! Honestly I wished we would have brought my mom there sooner. The facility is super nice and we loved our view of the fountain and trail outside our windows. It's such a peaceful place for people to live their last days. My family really enjoyed the kitchen area that had coffee, snacks, and a fridge for us to use which made it easier when you're staying so many hours a day. The nurses and techs were WONDERFUL! All of them were so sweet and compassionate towards us. The nurses would always answer our questions we had about the end of life process and even when my mom did finally pass, the nurse working was very informative on the situation. And being open to visitors all hours of the day was nice too, especially because my mother passed in the middle of the night and my siblings were able to come up there and say their goodbyes. I will tell everyone to try to come here for their families and I would like to come back here in the future IF ever needed, but hopefully not soon

This is a lovely place full of attentive, compassionate people. The RNs, nurse aides, chaplain, social worker, doctors and everyone else we interacted with was helpful and present. We liked how easy they made it to stay overnight, how they answered all our questions patiently, and how they checked in on Dad 24/7. My heart hurts for the negative experiences some people have posted about. Maybe people don't understand how acute hospice works? Carpenter House has a respite care section and a hospice section for people who are close to death (not just for those who have six months to live, but those who are days away). It is normal for people to stop eating and drinking at the end of life, and it is respectful of their dignity to not force-feed them -- but I imagine it can be extremely jarring if people are not aware of what is happening. (Carpenter House will feed people if they are still eating.) If your loved one's doctor recommends Carpenter House, I highly recommend you visit it and talk to their intake staff so you understand what services it does and doesn't provide. For us, it brought great solace during a very difficult time.

My dad passed at 6:00 the nurse rushed us out by 6:35 so the coroner could pick up my dad. He wasn't even all the way cold yet and my sister only got to see him for 2 mins. As a grieving family we were rushed out. A little compassion would have been nice at the end.

Thank you for the love you showed my mom! The Carpenter House was warm, comfortable, supportive but most of all they honor the loved ones and their families during the last hours of their journey.
