My mother has lived at this facility for 10 years. As a retired critical care nurse, trust me when I tell you THIS is the only place in Alexandria that you want your loved one to live and be cared for. The management is stellar as well as the staff. From the front desk, to the Aides and Nurses, your family member will be treated with respect and love. My mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 13 years ago and has lived here since she had mild symptoms until now, with greater cognitive disabilities. Summer House adapts to the needs of your loved one. Please believe me when I say there is no other place that will provide better care. I know first hand as a healthcare provider how poorly residents are cared for at other facilities.

I am thankful for all the administrative, nursing, dietary, housekeeping and maintenance personnel who take care of my loved one when I am not around. Summer House has been the answer to our prayers. I have family and friends at Summer House. I have visited several facilities in the past and I have never felt like the facilities were what we were looking for until we walked in Summer House. Upon visiting Summer House, Dawanna Johnson made us feel like we were part of a larger family. The kindness shown to us has been unbelievable. I never worry for a minute that my loved one is not treated with respect. The staff loves them and cares for them as if it were their own parent. The communication they provide is wonderful, the facility always clean, the meals are good healthy meals, and the residents are always visiting, laughing and seem happy. There are numerous activities to keep the residents busy. I truly appreciate that we have such a wonderful facility with great staff as an option in our town. Thank you, Dawanna, for everything that you do for us.

When we moved my mother-in-law into SummerHouse Alexandria, I knew we made the right decision. The staff was very welcoming and residents were smiling. She enjoys the courtyard and spends many hours under the gazebo visiting with friends. She enjoys the activities, and the meals are delicious. They are pet friendly. I knew when I walked in for a tour that this was different than most assisted living homes that I looked at. The staff were all awesome and the facilities were fantastic. I started looking for an assisted living place for my mom, who is moving to Louisiana from Pennsylvania. I contacted Dawna at SummerHouse in June and set up an appointment for a tour. We had been emailing back and forth until this time, and when I arrived for the tour, she greeted me with a hug. Everyone I met was very friendly. I loved SummerHouse! The place is clean and inviting. The activity calendar is filled with multiple activities. There is something going on every day. Dawna sent me two or three texts to check in on mom. prior to mom making her decision. It was not a "Is she coming" text; it was a genuine How are you and your mom doing? We made the decision for mom to live at SummerHouse. Dawna has done a great job coordinating with. my brother, who is in PA, and me, in LA. I am sure we have driven her a bit crazy. 🙂 I am looking forward to spending time with my mom, and am glad that there was a place that exceeded my expectations.

My husband's mom lived here for about 6 months. I rarely write reviews online but wanted to because of how wonderful and caring the staff are. They truly make it personal. Mrs. Dawna and the other admin are wonderful! She helped us with any questions no matter how random or small, and if we had any issue she helped resolve it quickly. Mrs. Maggie was also able to help us understand the financials and numbers when they were confusing. The nurses are exceptional as well. Laken and Callie would contact me if there was any issue with my husband's mom and kept us up to date frequently. The staff here truly care and go above and beyond. We wish we could've kept her here longer. When we needed to transition her to a nursing home for unrelated reasons to SummerHouse, Mrs. Dawna even helped us understand and walked us through the overwhelming process, such as paperwork, financials, and any other questions we had.

My mother is 90 years old and has been at SummerHouse Alexandria since October 2020. She hated me worse than nasty coffee for putting her in there, but now she regularly tells me how much she loves living there and that she’ll beat me like a filthy rug if I ever consider moving her. And what’s not to love? The facility is quite nice, her room is spacious and quiet, Robert can fix anything short of a faulty nuclear reactor, Mom’s next-door neighbor doesn’t beat drums at 2 a.m., crime is low, and (as far as I can tell re: assisted living homes in general) the price doesn’t induce nausea. (OTOH, I doubt that anyone living there is running up and down the street yellin' ain’t that cheap!) Now, according to Mom the food is hit-n’-miss, but I’ve noticed that this opinion heavily depends upon what day it is, and also whether or not they put carrots on her plate. My usual response is that if she’s not losing weight then I ain’t hearin’ it. All I know is that when I tell her what time her doctor’s visit is, the first question out of her mouth is will I be back for lunch? If that isn’t an eloquent testimonial, then I don’t know what is. Anyhoo, in my view what matters most is the quality of the people who provide her care, and God’s honest truth is that I’d be hard-pressed to identify anyone more caring, compassionate and attentive (not to mention fun-loving!) than the crew at SummerHouse Alexandria. Those folks are outstanding! The whole place is outstanding! In fact, if they wouldn’t gig me for more money, I might go so far as to say it’s a bargain at twice the price! So I won’t say it. (But I might be thinkin’ it.)

My dad is a resident here and we have been very satisfied. There seems to be low staff turnover and everyone on staff has been professional and helpful. From what I have seen, residents are all treated with kindness and respect. Any questions I’ve had regarding policies, billing, etc have been addressed quickly and completely. Everyone in housekeeping, maintenance, nursing, admin and kitchen staff has been available to help dad if asked. If the person asked can’t help, they will find someone who can. We have experience with other facilities in Alexandria and Lake Charles and know that is not always the case. We would definitely recommend Summerhouse to people looking for a good assisted living facility.

My mother was a resident at Marigold Place (now Summer House Alexandria), and we had a "beautiful" experience! My mother was a very strong willed, independent woman who raised 6 children on her own. As a daughter, it was very difficult to realize that I couldn't care for her at home alone. I have children of my own and I have to work. It took my mother falling and having a severe injury BEFORE she consented to going there. She stated, " I wish I would have gone sooner when we initially toured because I may not have fallen and injured myself so badly." To make a long story short; we toured with Dawna a year prior to her move in but she was too hesitant to give up her home. We finally moved in when she became bed/chair ridden and needed Hospice. My mother lived there for 6 months, and she loved every minute of it. She became very "spoiled" and felt like she always had family there when I couldn't be there. The initial transition was rough, but it was because she was so independent and had to learn to ask for help. All of the staff understood how difficult it was for her to give up her old life and were so patient to learn her "new" routines. The staff assisted me with her care and hospice set up when the time came, and she received the "extra" love that she needed before her passing. I always like to tell her story because her fall and the length of time she laid on the floor in her home may have been prevented her sudden decline in health. I cannot thank Summer House enough for giving my momma the "BEST" final months of her life with love and support. Dawna made the transition easier on me and allowed me to be her daughter during a difficult time. I will forever sing their praises! I would encourage anyone to take the leap early enough to reap the benefits of all they have to offer! They made one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make so much easier! Thank You Summer House staff for loving my momma as much as we did!

A night and day experience, to say the least. Your staff are profession, and seem to want to go above and beyond in doing their jobs, unlike where we were before. I decided to go visit Summer House without an appt. one day for both parents. I had a 2 hour break from work and I had been wanting to check it out for months. The day I went I was so exhausted and emotionally and physically spent and Dawna Johnson met me at the door. I asked if I needed an appt. to talk about the facility and she said no ma'am come right in and we can sit in my office and talk. She went over a pkg. with me and made me feel right at home and then we went on a tour of the place. She spent so much time never rushed me through and she was so personable with me. She was just the one I needed at the time, she calmed me from my worries and stress I had been having and I felt so relieved when I left. She never pressured me but gave me hope and stories of other residents that sounded like my parents and told me how much they adjusted and how happy they were once they came. She covered all the basis with me in such a gentle and kind way. I could tell she loved the residents and that she was loved by them she is very respectful of them. When I returned the following week with my parents for lunch and a tour she was so gracious to them and took the time with them and had great patience, love and respect for them. Just encouragement the whole time. Her personality is perfect and her experience and care shines through! I can tell you she has checked in on them making them feel at home now that they are a resident and I really appreciate her!! I am thankful God placed her in my path, it made me decide not to look anywhere else. I am pleased and my parents are adjusting well with smiles on their faces. Thank you, Terri Deville

The team has been very attentive to responses and communication with me. I would give 5 stars for that. The only two items that would help are: 1. If they had life alerts type of devices available that did not require a person to push a button if they fall (ie it automatically goes triggers an alarm if someone falls) My mom has seizures and can not push the button when she falls and the device given to her requires her to push a button. I appreciate the device being available, but it is not great is someone passes out or has seizures. 2 help with setting up the TVs and Phone services in the room where the services are already available and just have to pay the monthly premium. This is how many of the assisted living places are set up in my State. However, the maintenance person, Robert gets great reviews (5 stars) from both my family members who are at the facility. But not being in La, it has been very difficult to get service set up in my Mom's room.

After my mother’s stroke, she lost peripheral vision in her eyes. We live 2 hours away from Alexandria, and had no idea what to do. Her doctors advised that she not live alone. We called several facilities and setup tours. Once we walked into Marigold, the decision was made. Marigold is so warm and inviting. Dawna Johnson walked us through the entire facility. As children, you feel a sense of regret when making this type of decision. Something that i will always remember Dawna saying, she asked could she have the opportunity to care for my mother. It spoke volumes. She didn’t say let us, or we want to take care of her, she simply asked to care for her. That let me know that this is more than a job to her and the staff. Marigold understands and reassures every step of the way. The chef spoke to us about catering meals to my mothers specific dietary needs. They have a salon on site. Nursing staff is available 24/7. My mother has gained 20 lbs in 3 months and it is healthy weight. She looks better, feels better and we feel comfortable with our decision. Marigold save our mother’s life!
