We knew from our first visit that Settler’s was the place we wanted for our mom’s respite care stay. From there, it became her home. They provided the 24/7 care that we could not. The entire staff, from the executive director to the nurse’s aides were all so wonderful & caring. They helped us as much as they helped our mom. If you’re in need of respite care or assisted living for a loved one, Trustwell Living at Settlers Place is a great option.

Coolest assisted living place ever, very convenient, full of kind, and compassionate people who genuinely love what they do and care deeply for their tenants. They provide three meals a day, cleaning services, the tenants can come and go as they please, and they have fully trained medical personnel who help distribute medication and tend to any other needs as well. Very community oriented, my dad loves it there and I’ve become friends with his neighbors and have grown to care about each one as well. Love it here. ’’’’

Foremost, the reason you are looking for a place like Settlers is a chapter in life that is not easy - for anyone. Your loved one is having to make big changes, you are having to watch it happen, both of you are questioning is it the right decision. The local community recognizes and recommends Settlers. It was one of the reasons we chose Settlers for our mom’s assisted living in Fall of 2025. Staff has had some changes recently, including management. The office staff are receptive to suggestions and requests. They are helpful and have a genuine concern for ensuring quality care. Yes, some of the staff are better than others and some shifts are better than others. That’s the reality of any such facility. It takes the right person to choose this work as their livelihood. For the most part, everyone I have interacted with care and give a darn. Reminders are sometimes needed when my mom asks for assistance. I do feel they are one person short on each shift. Management has implemented positive changes and more are coming - recent renovations, a digital menu board for visually impaired. They listen to their residents and have a monthly resident meeting where they truly seek resident feedback. In the end, it is a shared living space with limited amenities and a focus on safety. The range of residents varies in capacity and ability and is ever changing. That’s just the reality of any place. But this is a good place to be.

The staff are all very sweet. However, one nurse really made a difference. Christy was always attentive to my Mom. My Mom would perk right up when Christy came in to check on her. TrustWell Living Settlers Place is one of my favorite assisted living buildings in the Laporte area! I work in Mishawaka at an acute hospital and when I was looking to market toward the Laporte area, Shellie and her team were very open to talking with me. They are a wonderful team and have such an inviting building. The community events they have at their building are also great so that people can come in and see the community without feeling like they are pressured to move in. Sharail, The Director of Nursing is amazing about communicating with our facility if she thinks that one of the residents need our level of care. You can tell the residents really love her and her energy she brings the building.

My dad chose Settler’s because he wanted to enjoy life without the hassle of yard work and home upkeep”and it turned out to be one of the best decisions for him and our family. From the very beginning, the care he received was outstanding. The entire staff is compassionate, attentive, and truly dedicated. As a Health Care Provider, I frequent a lot of homes/facilities. What I love most about this place is the same faces of staff. It says a lot about a company who retains staff now a days. Each time I visit my family member at Settler's, she always says the same thing..... "I think this is a VERY good place, everyone is so NICE to me." That says a lot coming from an elderly person with severe memory issues. It warms our hearts to know she is comfortable and well called for. Her time at Settlers has been quite long, but she has never waivered from making that statement to us frequently. We know she is well looked after, her needs are being met, and that she is happy where she is. That says it all!

My Mom has been at Settlers for 2 years now. We love all of the staff. Everyone tries hard and goes out of their way to take care of our loved ones. It's been such a piece of mind knowing Mom is in great hands. My sister and I stop regularly to see Mom and she has not complained once about the way she is treated. Great place. The 'chef' prepared meals are not good. Food is bland and rarely ever warm when served. Prior to dad moving in, I inquired about PT since there is no PT room with any machines or equipment. I was told PT would go to his room and work with him, never happened. The PT is a group of residents going to a designated area and lifting their arms and legs while in their chairs. This will not get him from wheelchair back to using a walker. I have seen dogs urinate on the carpet and nothing was done to clean it up. Carpets could use a good cleaning. The entry/exit procedure could use updating. I'm surprised the entry/exit doors are not automatic so someone using a walker or wheelchair doesn't have to have someone open the door for them. The staff is very friendly and most seem to really care about the residents. They will check on the residents to make sure they are fed, whether it's to bring them to the dining room or take food to their room. From what I have observed, the residents are treated with kindness and respect.

My mom lived here for almost a year, until August 2023. I just loved the staff here. They took good care of my mom, even more so as her health declined. It's a cozy community with lots of activities to choose from, through out the day. My mom always said everyone was so nice there.

I am very happy with Settler’s Place. All of the staff treat my mother with kindness. She had a hard transition moving from her home but they really helped her feel comfortable in her new apartment. I feel she is safe with someone available 24 hours a day if she needs anything.

I was very pleased with my experience finding the right place for my grandma.. Nice staff very helpful working out a monthly price that fits her income. I was Disappointed to see somebody left a bad review you can’t always go off of a negative comment. My grandma has been well taken care of and during COVID their great about following the Guidelines. My mother has been a resident for 10 months. Their love and care for her has truly been a gift. The staff is kind and willing to listen to you and make adjustments to meet needs. The facility is clean and they strive to provide varied activities to enhance socialization and sense of community. They have been fair with pricing and assisted greatly with VA benefit application. As a nurse I will be honest that no place could ever meet all of my standards to 100%, but despite some minor rough patches, this place has been nothing but a blessing for me, my Mom and family.
