Reviews Marquette
July 2024
My Mom and I toured The Health Center at Marquette this morning. Laine was absolutely amazing and answered all of questions. The facility is very well maintained and pleasant. The patients seem happy and engaged. All the staff we crossed paths with were extremely friendly and seemed to care a great deal for the patients and visitors alike.

Marquette is a great place for the residents and employees! Many staff members have been here for many years, which shows the amount of dedication and love in the facility.

My mother who suffers from COPD and moderate dementia, and for whom I am POA, spent several months of time at both the health center (skilled nursing facility) as well as assisted living at Marquette. I found the administrators and health care workers (nurses, physical/occupational therapists and CNA's) to be very competent, caring and they frequently checked on my mother. I felt as though they placed my Mom as a priority given her needs. The food for Mom was pretty good. I am very appreciative of the care she received and I have only good things to say about Marquette. I recommend Marquette highly and without reservation. William McTurnan, M.D.

My mom just moved to Marquette a few weeks ago. It seems very clean and well run and is a beautiful facility. Staff seems stable and very good at interacting with residents. They have made special efforts to include and motivate my mom and she is more upbeat than I've see in years. Cautiously optimistic. Move in went very smoothly. We really like the availability of medical care if needed.

Sometimes health events with loved ones are scary and demonstrate previously unknown limitations. That is when the facility's reaction offers a true evaluation of their effectiveness. In this instance the executive director rose to the occasion and performed a 360 review of the concerns. He addressed them immediately and communicated his findings. I am impressed by the response.

Marquette is an amazing organization. My mother-in-law has gone from Independent living to assisted living and now memory care. At each stage, there has been incredible loving support. The warmth of the staff and welcoming hugs have been a blessing at each level. Particular Kudos to Shannon Hoffman and Lisa Van Tassel, who greatly helped with her transitions into Assisted Living and then Memory Care.

My mother recently moved in and it has been such a positive experience for all of us. She is very happy and settling in quite nicely, and said it was the best decision she ever made to move in!

My family member was at Marquette recently and I have nothing but good things to say. The care was great and my family member was able to discharge early due to great staff and rehab!

I came to Marquette after a recent knee surgery. It was a wonderful healing experience. The room was very nice and the environment was very quiet. The therapists were well in their game. The staff took their time to provide adequate care. The food was outstanding! Thank you for getting me back on my feet!

We were in a difficult situation, since we lived here in Indy and my 93 year old father lived in Florida. I wanted him near family, but he was reluctant to leave Florida. We visited 4 senior communities in Florida and 4 in Indianapolis. Marquette had all levels of care, was clean and friendly, and very serious about Covid precautions. Marquette assisted living was just what we needed! We moved Dad from Florida to Indiana, and he moved into Marquette last week. Dad is very well taken care of, and he is happy!
October 2022
My great aunt lives here and I just want to mention how happy she has been since she's been here. All caretakers that she interacts with have brought her such joy while my family and I are not able to be with her. Thank you!

My husband and I moved into a cottage here 8 years ago. I now live alone with my cat. We were able to choose the decor including new cabinets and kitchen and bathroom fixtures. We felt like we were at home from the first day. I am satisfied with our choice and tell others so. We enjoy being able to walk through the pond area to the Manor to take advantage of the MAC and other facilities. We are also close to friends in the city and to shopping. My recent lengthy stay in the renovated Health care Center was a mixed bag. The room was lovely, beautifully decorated and arranged. The food was not good: salty and often not appealing, and I didn't get what I ordered more often than not. The staff seemed to be on a treadmill and were often annoyed to be asked for needed services. Some exceptions went out of their way to be helpful though. One aide finally offered me a shower in mid-evening. Only once in 3 weeks. Even with knee replacement surgery, I was able to cover my leg with a shower curtain and get cleaned up once in a while. The shower was beautifully designed for a person in my condition, but, if I hadn't been able to be self-reliant, I am not confident I would have received the needed service. Shannon Hofmann went out of her way to lend me her phone for several days while I was getting phone problems straightened out. With regard to the questionnaire, response for maintenance service, It is generally satisfactory and often very satisfactory. However, Fter 8 years, my cottage is up for repainting, etc., and a request for Guida ce went unanswered early in the year and again this last week. The activities offered are very satisfactory. In fact, the staff pays amazing attention to what is available in t Indianapolis and within the community here. Housekeeping is satisfactory again after the COVID problems with staffing and safety. I do recommend Marquette to Fri ends and family.

Mom absolutely loves living at the Marquette. There are endless activities, delicious meals, and many opportunities to spend time with new and old friends. The staff members are extremely kind, considerate and helpful. A special thanks to Kimberly Wilson and Sarah Green for helping to make the whole process go smoothly for Mom. We are extremely grateful!!!

The only thing that I regret about moving to Marquette is not having done it sooner. You can be as free and independent as you want and still know that they have your back.
September 2022
Our family is ever grateful for the incredible care and rehabilitation from Marquette’s Health Center. From admission to our last day in rehab, the team shared their care, compassion, expertise and love for my Mom and our family day and night. Our experience was especially important because my Mom came from living at home to suddenly being diagnosed with cancer complicated by a stroke. The Marquette team walked along side her motivation, inspiration and desire to return home. We treasure every member of the team, our talks in the beautiful gazebo and trips around the lake to enjoy the stunning grounds - all part of a healing recovery. And even more, our Marquette family continues to reach out and offer assistance to my father. We encourage your family to experience Marquette - it’s one of a kind people, care and medical expertise are life changing.

Since our children live many miles away and aren't likely ever to reside in Indianapolis again, we knew we had to investigate retirement living options and select our final home. We were familiar with Marquette Senior Living due to relatives having lived in its independent, assisted living, and health care units in the past. We visited and toured a dozen communities in central Indiana. Consistently, Marquette was the premier standard, which all the others failed to meet. We moved into an independent living apartment on September 30, 2020, and have been delighted with our decision. We have many new friends, more activities available than we ever could utilize, three terrific restaurant options, and Mass in the Catholic Chapel six days each week. Friends seem incredulous when we disclose that we have never cooked a meal in the past year and one half. Residents can be as busy as they wish. We often cite the example of leaving our apartment around 12:30 one afternoon. We were amazed that it was 9:30 pm when we returned, never having left the building. As we tried to recall where we spent our time, we believe activities included lunch with friends in the Fireside Grille, Wii bowling, Mass, visiting other friends in the common areas, and playing Mexican Train dominoes with our weekly floor group. We never would have been this active when we lived in our condo, especially during the pandemic. Our advice to friends and family who visit us is "Don't wait until it's too late." Move into a retirement community while you are still young enough and healthy enough to enjoy all the lifegiving stimulation that is available. Based on our experience, Marquette is the very best continuing care community that exists in central Indiana!
July 2022
We came earlier than some folks might because we wanted to enjoy the activities and the pool. The staff and residents are like family and of course the food is excellent. We are so glad to have made the move when we did. The opportunities here are amazing.
July 2022
Twelve years ago, based on my knowledge as a Geriatric Counselor, I chose to move to Marquette Independent Living..Today, I would do it all over again. Freedom to meet new friends, time to exercise, a plethora of interesting activities, top quality dining, food delivery, health center, yes twelve years, plus some 35 worry-free travel adventuress, and most of all, lots of laughter and contentment. Marquette...a great place to call home.
June 2022
Marquette is awesome!! Awesome place with friendly staff. Always a pleasure to visit. We love it!
May 2022
Marquette is a great facility! It is very clean and the food was great! The staff was very accommodating when my wife was recovering from her surgery.
May 2022
Marquette has everything I need. A nice apartment, good meals that Marquette is known for; bus service to my doctors, to the grocery, to the symphony, etc.. Programs in a large auditorium that includes documentaries, Hollywood movies, talks by good and knowledgable speakers, live music by enjoyable local musicians, etc. A library. A bank, a small shop for those necessities. We also have a athletic center run under contract with Indiana University National Institute of Fitness and Sports with planned group classes for all levels of ability. From reasonably healthy when we come in, to classes that help us us keep our O2 levels up and/ or keep functioning. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained by professionals. Marquette feels safe. Is safe. Security and nursing help are a call button away. Also important: the staff knows us by name: we are individuals. Residents tend to be people who have been accomplished in some area of life. Interesting people. We don't all vote the same, but we do not go there in our conversations..
May 2022
Marquette is one of the best communities I've had the pleasure of being a part of! The beautiful campus, lovely residents, and great staff all show us how Marquette has earned its reputation!
May 2022
We've lived at Marquette in the Manors apartments for 3 years and are very glad we made the move when we were healthy. We are able to take advantage of the many activities available to us, the fitness center, beautiful pool, walking paths and lots of entertaining and educational events offered every month. We were very pleased that our apartment was refurbished to our specifications. We were able to design the floor plan, select colors, flooring and cabinets. We encourage anyone planning to make a move to a senior community, that they do it when they want to not when they have to.
April 2022
My husband and I have lived here just over a year and are still amazed at all of the opportunities available to us. Great choice!
April 2022
After 50 years living in Ohio and Pennsylvania, we decided to return home to Indianapolis. We viewed several retirement communities, but Marquette checked all the boxes for us. Our apartment is big enough for relaxation, hobbies, and entertaining. I have taken advantage of the Marquette Athletic Club (MAC). I have a personal exercise program provided by MAC personnel, who review the program at least once a year to monitor progress. My muscles have never been stronger! Marquette provides plenty of entertainment. Hopping on a Marquette bus to go to the Indianapolis Symphony Pops concerts or other activities couldn't be more convenient. Best of all are the people at Marquette, both residents and staff. They are like family. We have lived here 2 1/2 years, and I know we made the best decision when we chose Marquette.
April 2022
Tiffany Camden is a strong patient advocate for her patients. I appreciate working with Tiffany to accommodate the needs of our patients and families. Tiffany is very reliable and quick in responding to me whenever I have a question.
March 2022
I moved here a year ago. All my friends and family comment that this is like living in a resort. Beautiful grounds, apartment set up per my specifications and varied and numerous activities available. Flat linen laundry services and housekeeping provided. A maintenance dept a call away. An indoor pool, hot tub, exercise equipment and 2 certified instructors. Aqua classes, step and core classes, yoga, tai chi and so much more offered. No extra charge! Once here, u can be under one roof for life (Independent living, assisted care and nursing care ). U will not find a more friendly staff ANYWHERE. Schedule a tour and judge for yourself.
March 2022
We have been living here at Marquette for about two years. I remember one morning after we had been living here just for about two weeks. We woke up and my wife Shirley said to me call down to the front desk and tell them we'd like to stay for a few more weeks. We just had a feeling we were at some very nice resort on vacation. What a relief to know that this will be our permanent home

My name is Nick Friedrich with Gordon Plumbing. Marquette manor is one of the best if not the best places for a contractor to work everyone is very accommodating while your onsite. They are also very polite every time they see us there. That makes our job a lot easier while we are. Thank you staff.

I can't say enough about the care our family has received at Marquette. The positive and helpful atmosphere has been comforting and beyond our expectations. All the Marquette staff have treated us with such respect and kindness. Their response to our needs has been amazing.

It is increasingly rare to find organizations that truly stand by their values. Lucky for my mom, Marquette Manor is a shining example of an organization that walks its talk. When mom moved to Indianapolis, we evaluated a number of prospective senior communities. What stood out about Marquette was its nonprofit status and commitment to resident welfare. As different from the national chains where any profit is siphoned off to the parent company, Marquette regularly reinvests available funds to improve the resident experience. The difference is palpable even to a new visitor. One unique element of the Marquette commitment is its Benevolent Fund, meant to support longer term residents who have moved into higher levels of care that eventually exceed their resources. As mom moved from Independent Living, to Assisted Living, to Skilled Nursing, she went from being able to fully cover her monthly costs to being in deficit. Per agreement with Marquette, we tapped mom's savings to close the monthly gap until those savings were mostly depleted. We then applied for, and were kindly granted, benevolent assistance to help close the gap. Marquette showed up as promised. Mom will be able to stay in the caring, comforting environment that has become home. What for some may have been a marketing ploy, for Marquette was commitment. We are deeply grateful that mom is in a community that lives the values it professes.
November 2021
My grandparents have both had stays at this facility. It was good to see a mix of tenured and new staff. I pray we don't need the service again but if we do this is the only place I would want them to be! Thanks for taking care of the Malone family.

Great place! Friendly staff
November 2021
We moved into Marquette almost 3 years ago, knowing no one in Indianapolis except our daughter and her family. We count our blessings daily for having made such a wise choice. Life doesn't get any better! It's always been a warm, welcoming, friendly place with activities, programs, events, entertainment, and outings to meet many interests. There are so many opportunities available to enjoy every day. Wish we had done it years ago!
October 2021
My mother has several friends living at Marquette and visits them regularly. She loves the food and atmosphere! She has been to visit other communities and says Marquette is the best -the only one she will consider for herself!
December 2020
Marquette is such a wonderful and welcoming environment! The residents there really make it such a vibrant and joyful place. And the staff goes above and beyond - especially during the pandemic - to keep the residents engaged and happy. Im so glad my parents made the decision to make Marquette their home!
December 2020
I think I can fairly say that at Marquette, new residents are considered friends even before formally meeting their new neighbors. One morning when I first came to Marquette and was waiting to see someone from Marketing, a man, Tom, greeted me and invited me to have a cup of coffee with him. We had a friendly conversation and I was left with what I would thereafter recall as the inimitable Marquette atmosphere of friendliness. That spontaneous greeting from Tom served as an important factor in my decision to move to Marquette.
December 2020
I have lived at Marquette for almost seven years. For the first five years my wife shared the experience until her death. Marquette was an ideal place for us. We appreciated the Catholic Chapel with Mass offered six days a week, the many opportunities for exercise in the MAC, the wide range of activities and events scheduled, and the fine dining service. We especially enjoyed hosting our friends and family in the Legacy Dining room for special occasions. After my wifes death, I received much support from the residents. Im active as a volunteer in many activities here at Marquette and know that we made a great decision when we chose Marquette as our home.
December 2020
After visiting 8 other retirement communities, we felt that Marquette had more to offer than any of the others. Now that weve lived here for almost two years, we know we made the right decision. Our apartment is roomy..two bedrooms and two balconies and the neighbors are fun to be with and interesting to know. Two dining rooms are available, one informal in a large, attractive room with two fireplaces in the center, and the other affords more formal dining with specially prepared selections served by your waitress. Dining opportunities are varied and the food is delicious. Of course, room service is always available. The amenties are numerous and varied....a lovely, large pool, complete MAC workout room, daily exercise classes, message therapy, individual work-out programs, Health care center, beauty shop, barber shop, The Corner Shoppe for small items and cards, and indoor pickleball, Who could ask for anything more! Hester & Frank Pilcher
December 2020
We enjoy our privacy with access to friendly and supportive neighbors. Marquette offers us a friendly staff in the dining rooms and the Mac. We especially appreciate the large indoor pool. The gourmet meals in the Legacy dining room are a treat. The 45 acre campus offers adequate space for walking outside.
November 2020
We moved into Marquette in April of 2016. After coming home from two consecutive vacations and finding two large parts of two trees down in the yard in 2015, Rosemary, (my wife) suggested that we needed to reduce our stress. So we increased our search for a senior living community. Lynne ODay had been Rosemarys boss at St. Vincent Hospital. So Marquette was on our list. At seventy-five years of age, we felt that a buy-in choice (versus monthly rent) made the most sense for us. Thirdly, we wanted a cottage and lastly, the promise of a continuum of care was a closer. We moved in to Marquette in April. Perhaps we should mention that the movers and downsizing recommendations by Sara Green, in Marketing was also important. Once here, we discovered the Programs and Activities duo are unbeatable. We spent seventeen months in the Manor apartment before moving to our cottage. The staff that supports the cottages are excellent. Its not just one thing that we like about Marquette, it is all of it. Thanks. Bruce and Rosemary Hume
November 2020
After living in our Meridian Kessler home, just 5 miles away, for over 50 years and raising our 5 children in a great neighborhood we decided it was time to downsize and consider a retirement community. The only one we looked at was Marquette and we felt it met all our needs. We knew that we wanted to live in a cottage, and we were excited when one became available, meeting our hopes of being on the pond, having front porch and a garage. After living here for 6 months we feel it is the best decision we could have made! I remember when we were just living here for a few weeks and my wife, said call down to the front desk and tell them we want to stay for a few more weeks. It truly felt like we were on vacation at some great resort. Shirley, Gary Ahlrichs
November 2020
Our move to Marquette over 3 years ago was the best decision we could have made. The adaptation was both difficult and easy. On the one hand it was difficult because it was a very big change in our lifestyle, almost radical. Although we retained full autonomy of decision making, movement and action, we had moved into a closed community of about 300 to 350 people in an environment that is prepared for every contingency and where all imaginable activities are planned: lectures, fitness classes, indoor swimming pool, blood pressure monitoring, board and card games, billiards, gift shop, bank branch, health care facility, library, restaurants and a very long etcetera. One is free to choose whether to participate or not. With all residents walking around the halls and gardens, the opportunities to socialize are almost endless, but not mandatory. On the other hand, the transition was easy because the residents who walk all over the place are for the most part empathetic. They are truly interested in getting to know us, not just as a courtesy, and they genuinely worry about us being okay. They invite us to meetings and to eat together; they stop in the hallway to chat; they remember what trips we have made, what children and grandchildren we have. It is an affectionate, close knit, and generally optimistic community despite the fact that the median age is about 80 years, or maybe that is why. That constant and enthusiastic welcome made it much easier for us to adapt. And now, during the pandemic we feel truly protected and we are the recipients of extraordinary and friendly care from all the members of the staff who have gone out of their way to make us safe and comfortable and busy, entertained. We are in the best imaginable bubble.
November 2020
I checked out quite a number of places to live before choosing Marquette. My minimum requirement was a CCRC -- Continuous Care Retirement Community -- so I could be assured of having all levels of care if I need them. None of the other places I checked out even began to measure up to Marquette. And after I moved in, I found that Marquette more than lived up to my expectations. From day one, residents and staff alike welcomed me into the community and made me feel at home. I am in Independent Living and have so many opportunities for things to do and to interact with others. A real bonus is the high quality and choices of food that we have available.
September 2020
I am with Senior Home Companions and have worked closely with the Marquette Manor staff for many years. The people that run Marquette Manor are professional, compassionate and do everything possible to make their residents feel at home. Not only it is a beautiful facility but residents will be well cared for throughout their continuum of care. I would highly recommend Marquette Manor to all.
September 2020
Marquette is a beautiful community with a fantastic team. Communication is fantastic. Always very prompt and efficient. Tiffany C is a wonderful asset.
August 2020
As the Community Relations Manager for a nearby senior living community, I couldnt be more appreciative of the responsiveness and professionalism of the good folks at Marquette Manor. Id have NO qualms about referring them to my own parents!
August 2020
I have had several friends stay at Marquette Manor for Rehab. The staff will very compassionate and their communication skills are outstanding. The new private rooms are beautiful and they allow you to recover in a peaceful environment. I would recommend Marquette Manor to anyone whom is needing rehabilitation or a new home for Assisted Living.
August 2020
Lovely place with great food and amenities but the best thing about Marquette is the people who work there. Daddy lived fourteen years at MSL, in a cottage for twelve (four with Mother until her death) and an independent apartment for two. For all of that time he and our family were routinely impressed by the responsiveness, caring and follow through of all staff. From the maintenance man to the marketing department Marquette gives white glove service. Shout out to Concierge Dawn, Angela in catering, Ed who has omelet-making super powers, and Kimberly who facilitated a virtual move after Daddy died. They are very good at their jobs, as you would expect, and very personable and caring which is the bonus Marquette brings. Prepare to be thrilled.
August 2020
I am in the industry and work regularly as a partner with Marquettes rehab, health center. My experience working with their team is that they are knowledgeable, courteous and responsive. Im typically in their community multiple times each month and I have only ever witnessed cleanliness, happy thriving residents, courteous and helpful staff, and a skilled and caring clinical team. They are a joy to work with and options in senior living, healthcare dont get any better than Marquette.
July 2020
I have had the pleasure of working for Marquette the past 6 years! Everyone here is like a second family to me and we strive to provide the best care and service every day! Proud to be apart of the Marquette family!
July 2020
I had the pleasure of staying with an incredible team of nurses, CNAs and other health professionals when I had..not one, but two hip surgeries. In Dec. 2019, I again chose to stay with Marquette for my Heart procedure. Food, call lights, and so much more were great. It was an incredible experience. Too bad I was broken!!! Oh, and dont forget the Therapy team of OT and PT!
July 2020
Absolutely the best. The staff are experienced and many have been there a very long time. They are patient and kind. I could not have asked for better care for my mom. The facility is outstanding as well with many amenities and the grounds make for a wonderful stroll.

Friendly, helpful staff . Beautifully grounds. Fantastic activities. Wonderful community of nice residents.

During this unique time because of the Pandemic, I have not been able to visit my mother. I cant begin to thank the Marquette Health Center Staff enough! The staff has been in constant contact with me - virtual calls as well as photos to assure me that my mom is well cared for and safe! They are so caring and have gone above and beyond. Their passion shines through their masks!
March 2020
I think the Independent Living facilities are very nice. However, my father is in Skilled Living and the area he is in is awful. They are remodeling but he hasnt had the opportunity to get one of those rooms. There isnt even a comfortable chair for my mother to sit in when she visits. We wanted him to move to a remodeled room but they are so overcrowded there are 2 patients in most of the rooms. They are understaffed as well and the food is not very good. The nurses are very nice but overworked. We have tried to call the director but he doesnt return the calls.
March 2019
Lovely place to live your BEST LIFE if you need some assistance, Marquette Manor has Skilled Rehab with fantastic Therpist an nursing teams. They also have Assisted Living an Independent Cottages. So many residents to socialize with an attend exciting events in the community. Your loved one cant go wrong moving here, they may ware themselves out with all of the activities.
January 2018
I walk a few dogs for people who live here and the staff is super friendly and so are the people. The staff greets me almost everyday and people I dont know are always smiling and saying hello to me. The place is always clean and I just cant say enough good things about this place!

Families and their loved ones are encouraged to do the following before deciding on a community.
- Schedule a tour and visit the physical location to make sure community description is accurate.
- Confirm with community manager that living and services required for you or your loved one's unique needs and budget are met.
- Check with state government websites for additional licensing and information.
If there is any information that is inaccurate or needs to be updated, please contact Assisted Living Center.
Assisted Living Center uses the term "assisted living" or "personal care" to inform users that a community provides assistance with some Activities of Daily Living (ADL's). It may not meet your state's legal definition required for that level of care.
