I’ve had a great experience working with the team at Brookdale Memory Care. My grandmother has been in a few different memory care communities, and this one has been the best experience for our family so far. Mindi in admissions has been especially wonderful to work with. She is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and truly takes the time to answer questions and guide families through the process. While the community has had some leadership changes recently, the staff has remained very responsive and attentive whenever questions or concerns come up. It’s clear they genuinely care about the residents and the families they serve. Overall, it has been a very positive experience, and we appreciate the care and support the team provides.

While there are a few compassionate staff members, there are too many who are indifferent or routinely unkind and do not follow good practices. There seems to be a serious lack of training and supervision. When my loved one was there, I observed the nurse leaving medication for one resident at the lunch table and walking back to medicine cart. Another resident drank the medicine. When I reported this incident to management, she was defensive and tried to minimize it. There was a high turnover of staff from management down to caregivers, and the "neighborhood" concept does not work very well. Even in the daytime, too many times the 8 very vulnerable residents in the neighborhood were left alone and needed care. I took my loved one out as soon as I could find a better place.

Brookdale is a wonderful facility. Everyone is properly trained to care for those with a variety of types of dementia. We are so happy with the care my father is receiving here. Everyone is so patient with my dad and they care for him so well. Brookdale is unlike any other place because it is specifically designed for those needing a memory care facility. I cannot thank ALL of the people who work here enough.

It is impossible to give 5 stars to a care Facility. They would have to be perfect. Which NONE would be! Brookdale has 99% wonderful staff. The bad ones on staff don’t stay long. Pros. Good care givers. Everyone is easy to talk to. Questions answered. Love the layout. Each area quickly becomes a family. Great security in place. Meals look good. Pretty quiet. Cons. Too short on carers at night. 1 caregiver cannot get everyone ready, take care of problems and clean. Many times I went there and could find no care giver (on break, dealing with a problem or throwing garbage). My husband had a bruise on his butt that ran to his knee and no one knew what happened. Not enough attention paid to patient toilet times. Came twice to find my husband sitting in feces for an extended time based on rash he developed. During COVID they implemented a face time program so that we could see our loved ones (most patients cannot work a phone)! Wonderful idea. Fell flat after 2 calls. Serious disappointment. For the price I really liked Brookdale and thought the caregivers and staff were really top notch. The cons, I think are common and Brookdale does everything they can to make it a great place.

Dementia is hard. It is hard for the person and for caregivers and loved ones. Brookdale Carmel took my loved one when no other facility in the state would. Some dementias cause what are refered to as "behaviors." These are extremely challenging and stem from the hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia that sometimes come with dementia. Long story short, frightened people with dementia can become physically aggressive. This is traumatic for loved ones like me. When I apologized for it Brookdale staff took it in stride and said simply, "it's ok. We know he would never do this if his brain was working. This is what we do. We care for people even when they have challenging behaviors." The staff at Brookdale were so supportive and compassionate to both me and my loved one. When my loved one was in hospice they allowed me to stay with him 24/7 until he passed. I can't thank them enough for their support, love and care of us during our very difficult journey.

My mom has a medical condition that limits what she can eat. They feed her that stuff anyway. They say they have lots of activities but ive been there all day and they dont take anyone. I took her to one activity and of the 100 plus inmates exactly two were present both brought by family members. I tried to find out if they have my mom on the flu shot. They will not answer. Talked to Ashley the director who lied and said she would check it out and call right back. Yep another gutless liar that cares nothing about doing what is right or even her job. Great song and dance to get your loved one in though. Meals they have one person with no backup or support trying to handle 8 people needing sometimes extensive support. It is a sick and disturbing sight. Try to find somewhere better.

We had a great experience here during what is for all families a very difficult time. As others have mentioned, it is well organized and well run and the nursing staff we worked with were caring and top-notch.
