This was a nice home, but it has turned into a real cesspool. Everything is broken and they won’t do repairs, they feed them nothing but fish and chicken. No juice, no ice, staff is lazy and they got to where they talk to the residents any way they want to!! It’s time for the state to do their job and pull a surprise inspection!!

This is a clean and safe home environment and my mother is very happy in her own apartment with all of her personal things around her including her beloved cat. I dont have to worry because I know she will always receive the best care from the exceptional nursing staff and a hands on administrator who shows personal concern for his residents. Also, since I take care of all of my mothers financial affairs, I have to say that the Business office has been a life saver with paper work. They have been an invaluable resource to me and always helped me when I have reached out to them. Thank you Heritage Woods for all that you do. Denise Schramm

My Dad initially lived at Heritage Woods and then White Oaks when it first opened. He received excellent care and lived there close to 5 years.

My father lives here and I can not say enough about how wonderful it is! All the CNAs are attentive, kind and patient. Jenny, the DON, and Christina, RN, are absolutely amazing. They go above and beyond in every single way! I am so happy my father is here. Heritage Woods has truly been a blessing for my family!

This place is heaven! I seriously cant articulate how amazing the staff is, and the nurses! Oh my goodness, above and beyond! My father has lived in the assisted living portion of the building since February. EVERYONE has been so incredible from food service to CNAs to nursing. The building is extremely clean, even the stairwells smell good. The food is great, housekeeping does an excellent job cleaning the apartment, laundry always comes back fresh, clean and neatly folded. If you are looking for a place for your loved one that provides independence and assistance as needed, I strongly recommend Heritage Woods of South Elgin.

Excellent choice for assisted living. Supportive living too - which means if you run out of money and cannot afford the monthly rent on just social security and other monthly income, they help you apply for Medicaid. Most places do not take Medicaid, but Heritage Woods does. Does that mean it is a slum? By no means! The building is clean and modern, the staff are all very friendly, the food is good, and they have enough activities to keep you active, including shuttles to stores etc. Mom had a 1 BR apartment that looked brand new. Maintenance, housekeeping and nursing were all reliable and responsive. I am the POA for my mother, and the staff were helpful in walking me through the paperwork for Heritage Woods and for Medicaid (there was a lot), and reminding me when things were due. One thing to remember: nowhere is going to give the same level of loving care and attention as you would want for your loved one. That also applies when choosing a nursing home. We were very involved and visited Mom a few times a week. She was there 2 years, and we called or met with the director of nursing a few times when things were not what we expected. Each time they did their best to explain how things worked and fixed what they could. If your loved one is not able to advocate for herself, you have towith hospitals, doctors, assisted living, nursing homes, etc. Im not connected to this place in any way; Im just telling you what helped me.

My mom lived here from March 2014 until January 2017 when she passed away. I moved my mom here from Southern California and she loved living at Heritage Woods. She received top notch care from all of the staff. They even catered to her likes and dislikes in the dining room which I felt was excellent service.

Our Mom has a lovely one bedroom apartment which she likes. Some of the activities, though are suggestions. For example, cards were on the list and when she went up to play, there was one person working on a puzzle. She offered that no one from the place mcd. It was a suggestion only. A bit misleading. They could offer more meaningful activities. Most of the cnas are very professional. There is no one at the front desk on weekend nights and anyone can walk in the building.

This is a beautiful facility with good caretakers. My mother lived there for over 3 years. However, when they thought it was time for here to go into a nursing home, we did not agree. My mother had a choking episode and they felt she needed special meals that they did not offer. All she needed was to thicken her fluids, and grind meat if she ate it. We thought it was an easy fix. She could thicken her liquids and get her protein from foods other than meat. The decided to do an emergency involuntary discharge on her, 4 days before Easter this year (2015). My family had to move all her stuff out by the Saturday before Easter. We were suppose to have a family meeting. They knew we would present the swallow study done, and expect them to allow her to stay there. They did not want the liability if my mother was to choke to death under their roof. So they cancelled the meeting and went the fast route. I should also mention the swallow study was done on Feb 23, 2015, and the results available that week. If this was such an emergency and she was in such imminent danger of choking to death why did it take then until April 1, 2015 to come up with the decision to ask her to leave against her will. So do I have some anger. You bet! I love my mom. I have spent years protecting her from people you take advantage of her. I just want to warn you that if your loved one is going here, be prepared for harsh and uncaring treatment once they decide they should leave.
