I have my brother-in-law staying at the Citadel of Skokie. He has had operations, different types of infections, and several emergency room visits, and the staff at Citadel were committed to seeing him through every incident. Citadel has been a lifesaver for my brother. I can not imagine him being anywhere else.

The Citadel of Skokie provides a high standard of care. The nurses, social workers, and staff demonstrate patience, kindness, empathy, and compassion. On challenging days, our friend is treated with attentive care; the staff listens to him and respects his need for space. As Power of Attorney, I receive timely updates and responses. I am consistently informed about treatments and services provided. I believe our friend is in a secure environment, supported by attentive professionals who are well-trained to manage patient behaviors effectively. The office staff consistently provides prompt and efficient assistance with billing matters. Their handling of paperwork is highly effective, and I receive thorough answers and support whenever needed.

Very nice facility very respectful they help me with my aunt wishes all the way to the end she was so happy with all the staff and has her final wishes she wanted me to thank everyone that help her feel comfortable happy and made her feel like family just not a patient. I know she is in a better place now but you guys were the best for my aunt just did her final wishes and I am also so thankful for everyone and for everything you guy's did my love and my respect for all the staff and this facility. My husband has been a resident at Citadel of Skokie since early April 2025 with advanced Parkinson’s Disease. Some residents are there temporarily for rehab while others will remain permanently. I was there every day for the first seven weeks, sometimes for as long as six hours, and still visit regularly, and I've watched or interacted with almost everyone on staff. I am very impressed with their patience, kindness, helpfulness, work ethic and expertise, from the administrator to the office staff, nurses, therapists, CNAs, receptionists, custodial staff and others. There seems to be a feeling of family among most of the people who work there. Working with the elderly is so difficult, especially those who are cognitively impaired, I am grateful for everyone who makes this their profession. The administrator is straightforward and diligent, he has returned calls promptly and answered my questions or told me who could, I’ve watched him help swap out a resident’s mattress. The large nursing staff is amazing, tireless and knowledgeable, the CNAs are hard working and responsive, I’ve found it well worth the effort to learn their names, many are bilingual, I know of at least four languages spoken. The finance person has been tremendously supportive, the receptionists are so welcoming and have helped me adjust. I am impressed also with how clean the custodial staff keeps the floors, which as anyone knows who has cared for someone with advanced disease is a persistent challenge, and they’re friendly and considerate as well. The physical and occupational therapists are wonderful, they see residents in a gym located on the west side of the first floor and help them walk in the hallways. My husband also sees a friendly detail oriented speech and cognition therapist who is helping him retain memories, she readily uses info that I provide about his life. I haven’t met the staff internist but have read her helpful comments on reports, my husband’s previous doctors still advise on medications. I’ve met the staff psychiatrist doing rounds and the sociable staff psychologist who visits my husband weekly, and I’ve met nurses and nurse practitioners visiting from various government entities, my husband has received vaccines, x-rays and infusions when needed. Every resident has a TV with remote, the building gets cable. Games, movies and other activities generally take place on the second floor or on the lower level. There's an outdoor patio available off the lower level for smokers. The second floor is memory care and some staffers are assigned there. The food is good, the menu varied, the day's menus are posted in the hallway and residents can receive an alternate meal if they give sufficient notice. The facility is modest compared with fancier places nearby, and a few things like window blinds look tired, Citadel puts its money into hiring the best staff available and it shows. Citadel is VA-contracted and my husband is one of about a dozen veterans there. From everything I have seen I am tremendously grateful for the care he receives there. It is conveniently located near the intersection of Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard, not far from an Edens Expressway exit, and there’s lots of free parking in a large lot adjacent.
