Without Jenny working here and being able to answer all my questions on my Samsung tablet, I would be up the creek. Many of my doctors make my appointments on their websites and I sometimes miss them and I feel horrible because I don't always get back in, on time. I simply don't know how to. She is also a great bus driver when we go to the stores. She can manage the bus around tight corners, I know because I used to design them. Minimum space was the criteria. The management team here is awesome along with the residents. The residents here are all like family and have become like a second family to the staff. You have resident volunteers that are such a big help around the community and very welcoming to new residents and staff. If your loved one is nervous about moving into a new home not knowing anyone, you will have nothing to worry about moving them into Heritage Woods of Gurnee! They will be welcomed, loved, and cared for by all staff and residents. Unfamiliar with the area? They will also not have to worry there. Many residents were born or grew up in this area or lived here for years. There are many trips provided by Heritage Woods of Gurnee to stores, movies, farms, baseball games, museums, zoos, I can go on!

I am a resident here at Heritage Woods of Gurnee. We have a pool team known as Pool Sharks. I enjoy that were able to go to other communities and play, also that they are coed teams. We also have different options for food and beverages. It is a community that is for seniors 65 and up, so come on out and join us! You'll have a great time!

My Mother-in-Law is a new resident of Heritage Woods of Gurnee. We had a lot of challenges getting her from Florida to Illinois and well enough to move in, and Tracy talked us through everything the whole way! She brought in the right people at the right time to answer our questions and concerns, and was the greatest support ever! So far, things are going well. The apartment is perfect, and all of the staff has been terrific, and the other residents have been friendly. This is a great opportunity for my MIL to be and feel independent but supported as needed.

I was impressed with Heritage hills from the time that they gave me my set of keys and showed me the interior of my home by the sign on the door that said " WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME ... JOHNNIE ". I immediately felt welcome and comfortable. The staff here at Heritage Woods is friendly and always willing to assist me in anything that I had a question about even if it was only to refer me to proper person to assist me with my question. The food here is varied and tasty and always enough to fill me up. The location is close to most of the services that are not provided by Heritage woods and located only a short bus ride to the Gurnee Mills shopping mall or the Metra rail service to Chicago.

Heritage woods is a wonderful place to stay. The staff goes above and beyond. This is a great place for retirement. They have a lot of activities and our activity director is great! I recommend this a place to live. Everything you need is here. You have a salon on one floor, pool table room, theater room, activity room. It is a friendly positive environment.

I can't rate this facility currently as I am very disappointed with everything regards to my loved one's care right now. In the beginning when my loved one was able to do things for themself on their own it was a great place but now that they are not able to walk and do things on their own the care has gone down drastically.

Very warm and inviting atmospher. The decor is a little outdated but we hear there is a remodel coming this year. My mom was afraid at first but is so happy now and the staff know her likes and dislikes and are beyond caring. Best decision we could have made.

I’ve lived here for over 2 years and have found most of what I was told when given the initial tour has been quite different. I was shown the right side of the hallway which was nice and clean and smelled good, once I moved in I had access to the entire facility I then walked through the rest and found the hallways dirty and smelling like old cigarettes and stale food. Now as for Management, you have an Executive Director who admitted in a public meeting that she was given the title but she hadn’t Earned it, which became obvious she says to residents if you don’t like something how about I give you a 30 notice to vacate the and see how you like that . A few of the departments are like a comedy show no sense or reason, the food department is nothing like what one would expect even in a truck stop, the food itself is just wrong and the cleanliness is terrible. The wait staff changes on a regular basis for all different reasons. Everything mentioned above leads back to my comments about the Executive Director. Maybe Garnet should take a hard look into what’s really going on here. Now let’s see if I get a 30 day notice after she reads this review, I guess you will know in my next review.

Heritage Woods (HW) is situated in a wonderfully convenient location that makes it appealing, and the apartment units themselves are charming (spacious enough and well maintained) but the experience itself for my loved one and our family was a frustrating one. A funny thing happened on move in day“another group was moving their loved one out. A gentleman with this group sighed and sourly stated to us as they exited the place, good luck! while shaking his head. Deductive reasoning indicated this family may not have had a happy time with this facility. This review is being written in fall of 2023 -- after not even one full calendar year of residency. The issues: *High turnover of office staff and leadership (finance manager, intake coordinator, etc.) which brings us to the next couple bullet points. *Constant billing issues “ The monthly assessments were all over the place and inconsistent during the residency. Addition of hidden costs like PT that was not consented for. *Failing efforts to tighten communications. The person who on-boarded our family indicated that HW will coordinate travel to doctor's appointments. This turned out to be incomplete information. The on-boarding staff shared that diabetes health management is provided. This of course also turned out to be non factual. *My loved one experienced a fall bad enough that resulted in an ambulance ride and hospitalization. Yes, falls can happen anywhere however no staff member from HW alerted the family. *While there are some lovely staff members at HW who are more than helpful, capable professionals, there are others who are clearly indifferent to resident needs. The day shift admins do nothing but dodge accountability and make excuses for the dwindling care or what care is supposedly offered. *One director in particular had stricken so much fear into my loved one, this person was actively avoided. *During Facetime calls with my relative, some CNAs will come in and immediately start yelling. I would have to promptly chime in loudly that I am on the phone and can hear the staff member speaking recklessly. *The seniors who aren’t quite great at toileting are allowed to fester in their neglect. Just walk the halls and you will experience this as a guest. *In passing and speaking with other residents, many are vocal about the declining services at HW. I witnessed a resident alerting nursing staff who were holed up in their office about the lack of attendants during dining hours “ a gross dereliction of duty given these seniors/elderly/sick residents should be supervised due to choking risk. I'm sure Gardant corporate or their social media monitor will issue a boilerplate, "we are sorry you had this experience" reply. You can save it. I wrote corporate months ago with my concerns and was categorically ignored. Train your staff on empathy, improve communications, remove "assisted" from your marketing and website, and conduct leadership/staff development to increase retention.

Cleanliness leaves a lot to be designed especially in the dining area, old wet used rags are kept in a red bucket in a sink in the dining area visible to all and used over and over again to wipe the dining tables while residents are still eating. When arriving in the morning for breakfast you can see a film on your table which I personally find unappealing I then get a wet and dry paper towel and clean my table myself. With this being the case in the public’s eye I’m really concerned what goes on it the kitchen behind the closed doors. Now when potential new residents are given a tour their guided down the north hallway which is well kept carpet included, but if they were to go down the opposite hallway they would see a very stained carpet and smelling heavily like cigarette smoke area which residents have to deal with on a daily basis. The main lobby (entrance way) is very well kept and the thyme is changed to reflect the seasons which is great for the residents along with occasional fresh flowers and plants for residents free of charge to take to their rooms to brighten up their lives a bit. Now for the receptionist is totally professional and goes above and beyond helping all who enter and the residents also staff members with all their needs she brightens up the area like a ray of sunshine.

I highly recommend the Heritage Woods Gurnee location for retirement. I have a elderly Grandmother who needs special care. She's extremely happy and she loves it there. I visit all the time and all the staff are very nice and welcoming. All the CNA's are very friendly and professional she tells me but one imparticular is Stacey Ramey. I give this place a 5 star rating because I know my Grandmother is safe, being well taken care of and happy.

This Community is well kept and the residents are able to make it very home like. This would be a great place to tour for long term residency as most communites like this one, cost far more to live in. After seeing many communities/Skilled care Nursing Homes in this area, Heritage Woods Gurnee is ranked one of the nicest to be.

Due to my mother's declining health we needed to move her from home to assisted living. We looked at several facilities and decided Heritage Woods provided the services and environment best suited for my mother's needs. My mother was there for two years, before she past. The staff that had daily direct contact with my mother were wonderful. My mother said on many occasions how well the staff looked after her and took care of her. My mother felt safe there and made many friends. The CNA staff were caring and attentive to my mother's needs. One CNA (Shirley) in particular was especially kind and loving towards my mother. She was like one of the family watching over my mother. Thank Heritage Woods for the care you provided my mother.

My mother was only a resident for 10 months before health reasons required us to move her. I commend everyone from the nursing staff, dining room and maintenance department for being kind, courteous and helpful during her short residency. However, this praise does not extend to the administrator. During my mother's hospital stay I contacted her to advise of my mother's condition and that she would not be returning to Heritage. The FIRST thing she says to me is, "Well, we normally require a 30-day notice." I was appalled, to say the least, at her lack of empathy, people skills and professionalism!!! My mother had just been diagnosed with a life-changing, terminal illness and that's the response I got??!! How unfortunate that I was unable to foresee the deterioration of my mother's illness so her apartment could be free to rent to someone else. The administrator has no place working in senior care. Her focus is only on the dollar and NOT the residents or their families. Shame on her!
