Arden Courts of Elk Grove – Reviews
October 2024
My complaint about Arden Courts in Elk Grove Village is highly negative, because we had a highly negative experience there after my 92 year old mom became a resident. I must however exclude several individuals from the negativity because they were great, and that includes Nicole, the activity director, the receptionist staff members, the chef and several CNAs, including Rosa, Ada and a few others as well. The nurses tried their best, but they were overworked. The rest, I have nothing good to say about them. Starting with management. The managers/directors those 'in charge' are negligent to say the least. The oversee of this place is non-existent. Management and others who are 'in charge' hide in their offices all day, or are not present at all, rolling into work around 9 or 10 am and leaving before 4pm. I know because I had to be there every single day to ensure my mom's needs were being met. I had to take time off from work as a teacher to be there to take care of my mom myself. I was basically doing their jobs for them. I found that mom's needs were not being met, not at all. We brought her home after approximately 3 weeks of hell. She came home very weak, constipated, dehydrated and with bed sores, chaffing and diaper rash. Instead of getting her to the bathroom, she was told to just crap in her pants. No one bothered to take her to the toilet. Her toilet was unused for the whole time she was there. She held her bathroom because she didn't want to poop in her pants, but needed help getting to the toilet, because she can't walk. She hadn't bathed since the first week she was there, so basically, she had no sponge bath and no shower in 3 weeks. No creams or ointments were put on her regularly. Her skin looked dry, cracked and red. Her oxygen was not checked regularly, and the tubing never got changed! My dad and I had to do all this ourselves. While there, I made my requests and concerns known several times to various staff, including nurses and [name removed], one of the directors. Staff listened to me, but usually nothing was done. The few times the issue was addressed, it would only last temporarily, and then go back to the way it was and ignored again. 2 or 3 male residents who had aggressive tendencies were allowed to wander around and not monitored. They often went into other patient's rooms, including my mom's room, at all hours of the day, including at night, which is why I had to go there at night time after work to protect my mother. I requested a lock be put on my mom's door, but it wasn't, so I just bought a child lock from home depot and installed it myself. I witnessed 2 fights between various male residents, and during the fights, there was no staff in sight. Fortunately, I was around to get help, but it frightened my mom, and she didn't feel safe there, and my dad and I didn't feel she was safe either, but nothing was done about it. One of the fights resulted in bloody nose of a male resident. Another incident included the same male who had the bloody nose. He went up to a female resident who was in a wheelchair and physically assaulted her. of course, no staff was around, and fortunately another person stopped him from hurting her. I reported it, but nothing was apparently communicated to the rest of the staff. CNA's complained to me about the aggression of several male residents and told me that [name removed] wouldn't do anything about it, even if it got reported. The wandering and aggressive males also took my mom's food often. During meal time, mom was put alone in a separate room, away from the sight of caretakers, and away from the other residents who all sat together in the kitchen space to eat. Why they did that, I don't know. I asked them to stop isolating my mom during meals, but it continued. My dad and I started going over there for every meal to ensure she was seated with everyone else and to ensure no one was stealing her food off her plate. I witnessed male residents taking her food several times, and taking other resident's food also. of course, nothing was done about it. Whenever I moved my mom from isolation and into the kitchen to eat with everyone else, I got attitude from some caretakers. They didn't want my mom sitting in the kitchen, they often claimed that there wasn't enough space, which is [language removed]. Another time, a female resident was locked outside late at night in the dark, and fortunately, once again, I was there to find her. She used a walker and somehow, the staff lost track of her and didn't even know she was outside in the dark in the courtyard all alone, crying and trying to get back into the building. I saw her outside around 8pm though the glass door near my mom's room. the doors all lock for security and she didn't know how to get back inside. If it wasn't for me, she could have been out there all night. how is it that no one knew she was missing? I could go on and on with other incidents, and I plan to file a formal complaint. My dad deserves to have all his money returned! We trusted this place to take care of my mom. Why should he pay for care that was not given? Why did I have to take time off my job at my school district where I teach 6th grade, and my students and co-workers didn't have me there? It's because Arden Courts is a hot mess, and it's the directors' faults. They don't do their jobs, and that's the whole reason for my complaint. They are negligent and they don't care about residents. [name removed], who I understand is one who is 'in charge', returned after a leave of absence, walking around like she was the second coming, telling all the residents to smile. No one smiled. I was there when she returned to work, and she saw me there. When I called to tell her about my concerns, she was flippant and rude to me, and made a lot of excuses. She knew I was there often, but it slipped her mind to let me know, or let my dad know that mom was getting a roommate. No warning, no explanation, no phone call, no message, nothing. She knows my mom's needs are unique, in that she is 92 years old, completely immobile and uses oxygen. She was aware that my dad and I were there everyday for 8-10 hours, to take care of my mom, but she couldn't tell us that mom was getting a roommate. At that point, we packed up my mom and left. I can't believe that people like this are running a nursing home. I am not alone in my feelings, because staff members and family members of residents had the same feelings about Arden Courts. They said that the care of this place is not good, but used to be good, when a different manager was in charge. The other manager left and moved out of state, and since that time, the level of care at this place has gone way down. Not my words, but the words of another family member who is there often. I would not ever recommend this nursing home to anyone. Stay far, far far away from Arden Courts. It looks pretty, and they do a good job convincing you at the start that it's a good place, but don't be fooled. Your loved one is nothing but a big sack of money to them. Caring for residents with dignity, respect and responsibility is not a priority there. ~S.Walter Claimed loss: the money paid to Arden Courts for the month of October was approximately 2500 move in fee and another 6800 approximately for the care, which was non-existent. Desired outcome: a full refund of money to my dad. We moved my mom out of there on Thursday, October 17th, 2024. My dad paid in full for month of October.

Had a chance to visit with the staff and residents. The care and understanding by the staff towards the residents was wonderful to observe. I highly recommend taking a look at Arden Courts if you are dealing with a loved one needing a top memory care facility.

LOVE Arden Courts in Elk Grove Village! The layout of the community makes for a home- feeling environment. The neighborhoods feel so personal and cozy, which is exactly what my mom needs! She gets overwhelmed very easily and so it was important that we find her a home where she isn't lost in a sea of people. Staff is so nice and were supportive during the transition. They really made sure I was just as cared for during the move as my mom was.

I had the opportunity to spend time at Alden Courts and I saw how much they cared for their residents. The interaction that I saw was heart warming. I recommend Alden Court for those who have loved ones that need the extra care.

While helping a friend tour different communities, we were quite pleasantly surprised with Arden Courts. It feels like an actual home, not a nursing home! Residents are able to roam freely while they remain safe-including outdoor spaces! I love all the different corners with activities that may remind them of earlier times. Deborah Houtz is a true professional! She took her time with us and explained how every aspect of the design was purposefully geared towards those needing memory care. I will not hesitate to recommend clients, friends and family. Thank you!

I have the pleasure / honor of coming to Arden Courts- Elk Grove to entertain the residents & bring my great dog for some bonus dog loving The moment you walk through the door, you are greeted with a friendly smile. I can tell the staff really care about & for their precious residents. I go to a lot of places & not everyone is as friendly, caring as they are here. Keep up the great work!

We have found Arden Courts Elk Grove to be one of the best memory care communities in the Chicagoland area. With their specialized programs, they can accommodate memory care residents at any stage they are at. We have observed the kindness, compassion and patience that the staff shows their residents, which makes them stand out from other local communities!

Arden Courts provides a clean, positive and professional atmosphere. Angie and Deb are so pleasant to work with. They are diligent in their duties, while being sensitive to other's needs. The location is very convenient and it is a comfortable and safe environment. I highly recommend it for your loved ones.

A terrific place! I travel to many different senior living facilities all over the area and this is by far one of the most caring and generous groups I have visited. It's the personnel that makes all the difference. If my own parents lived in the state I would absolutely recommend this for my own mother, who has dementia.

I recently had the pleasure of touring Arden Courts Memory Care Center, and I was thoroughly impressed. Debbie guided us through the facility, and her warmth and knowledge made the experience truly wonderful. The community itself is beautiful, with a particular highlight being the outdoor garden—it's a serene and inviting space for residents to enjoy. Their activities schedule is thoughtfully crafted to engage and stimulate patients, offering a variety of programs that cater to different interests and abilities. From arts and crafts to music therapy and physical exercise, there is always something to keep the residents active and engaged. Overall, I was very impressed with Arden Courts and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a memory care facility for their loved one.

The team at Elk Grove is wonderful. They do a great job with residents and families. An example would be when they bring in education and support groups for families. Ask for Debbie or Monika if you want to learn more. They are very knowledgeable and accessible.

We had to make the difficult decision to move my grandmother to a memory care. I'm truly grateful to Arden Courts Memory Care for providing her a clean and safe space, the home like environment, the staff for treating her with dignity. Thank you Arden Courts for always welcoming us with warmth and keeping us well informed.

This purpose-built memory care community stands out as one worth visiting thanks to the longevity of staff, homelike setting and the active residents. I always enjoy my visits and witnessing how well everyone communicates with one another. You can tell they have fun!

During the summer of 2022 my sister Carol and myself began looking for a Memory Care facility to put our 92 year old mother Dorothy who had memory loss and declining physical problems. After visiting other Memory Care facilities in the northwest suburbs we decided on Arden Court of Elk Grove Village. Everything has really worked out well…24/7 care, professional staff and a great management team. Currently there are approximately 30 residents. The staff does everything possible to make all residents feel wanted and happy. There is a nurse making and/or reviewing all medical decisions, activities all morning and afternoon, 3 meals a day to fit everyone's likes or diet and every resident receives personal attention all day and are watched all night. Carol and myself do not think we could find a better place for our mother Dorothy than Arden Court.

The receptionist (Anne), the head nurse (Christine) and the care workers are exceptionally friendly and caring. I am especially grateful to Nicole, who is dedicated, generous and so caring, it is a joy to see her work.

I made the correct decision for a memory care facility for my wife
November 2023
Arden Courts of Elk Grove Village has been on my radar since I was a care coordinator just down the street in the early 2000's for ten years. Back then I would attend the CE opportunities at this community and learn early on in my career that Arden Courts set the bar high for what is expected in memory care. Gone were the days of an institutional and clinical feel! I remember walking into this Arden Courts and it feeling comfortable, cozy, and approachable. Arden Courts has always been the leader in compassionate and resident-centered care for those living with a dementia diagnosis. Fast forward to 2023 and I am now reconnected to Arden Courts of Elk Grove Village as we raise the bar on what we can expect personally and professionally in top shelf dementia care! It is an honor to walk alongside Arden Courts of Elk Grove Village as we offer caregiver support groups and dementia education. As a part of my small business, I boldly and gladly recommend Arden Courts of Elk Grove Village to my clients and their families. Indeed, I would feel comfortable with having a personal loved one live in this community. Isn't that the ultimate measurement? I receive no incentives or benefits for this review. They have earned this positive review by the high quality of care that they consistently offer. I only recommend the best to my clients and AC EGV is at the top of the list, hands down. Thank you Deborah and Kimberly for creating a beautiful culture of love, warmth, kindness, generosity of spirit, and eternal springs of patience.

When our family suffered a crisis and subsequent loss Arden Court of Elk Grove Village in Illinois was there for us. They consistently provided loving and competent care for our brother who suffers from dementia. When the time arrived for us to choose a new home for him, we did not want him anywhere else but Arden Court. They take care of him with a well-trained staff, an educated medical team and an always available administrative team. The deep sense of being “home” consoles my brother and all of us who care for him. Arden Court is a home away from home which we consider a true blessing.

During this pandemic, I was uncomfortable with the idea of moving my mother into ANY facility. Unfortunately, as her disease progressed, I had no choice but to get her the care I was unable to provide anymore. After meeting with Christine, Scott and Kevin, I knew that Arden Ct was the best place for my mother. My mother was in Arden Ct Memory Care for just a short time but the care she received while there was exceptional. The team came together to welcome her there unlike anything I have seen or heard of before. They were very attentive to her needs and did everything they could to make my mom and our family comfortable in her last days and for that I am forever grateful.
March 2021
I have been doing my research on Arden Courts for some time and I have been comparing with other memory care communities. Experience does make a difference when it comes to specialized care for dementia patients. I happy happy with the choice I made with the community.
October 2020
Id like to share my experience with Arden Courts of Elk Grove, IL. About two years ago, my dad was diagnosed with dementia. His behaviors were becoming increasingly strange and before long, it became evident that he could no longer live with my mom as he had for the past 67 years. It was a very difficult time for our entire family. This was something that we not only never dealt with before, but also had no idea of how we were going to make the best of. We needed a quick and solid solution to provide my dad with a new place to live and still deliver a sense of dignity and respect for this man that we loved so much. The response from the staff at Arden Courts was truly amazing and the speed at which they did it was equally as impressive. Within 24 hours, they interviewed my dad at a nearby hospital and they were able to quickly accept him into the Arden Courts community. During his stay there, we have witnessed an approach of genuine care, uplifting attitudes and a positive spirit that are clearly pillars that the organization stands on. The staff at Arden were always willing to accommodate us for special events like birthdays and such. The many activities kept my dad in good spirits in spite of his dementia-induced tendency to be less than cheerful at times. Arden has also thrown some of the best parties at the Elk Grove facility! My entire family has enjoyed participating in them. The entertainment was excellent, the food was fantastic and the entire living area decorated in festive arrays of theme-capturing motifs. I highly recommend this facility for any family member that is in need of this sort of senior care. Its a place you can trust with your aging loved one.

During these difficult times, its hard to put a love one into a long term care facility but my experience with Arden Court was wonderful. From the executive director Lauren to the wonderful women Maria who assisted my father on a daily basis, they were all so kind, caring, and compassionate. The access to the outdoor area was priceless.
September 2020
My mother needed care more than I could give, and Arden was suggested to me. I brought my mom to Arden, and they had a house along with a room ready for her. The room was appointed well, and we added touches to make feel at home. Also the staff at Arden setup a shadow box with items that were important to my mom such as hobbies, wedding day along with photos too! The director Scott does a great job keeping families informed about their parents at Arden. Im also working with Lauren shes memory care advisor, and keeps me well informed on how my mom is doing, and I can truly say the entire staff does an awesome job taking care of not only my mom, but other residents as well. I do call to check on my mom, and speak with nurse she tells me how mom is doing. If anything ever comes up Arden will call you to inform about parents well being or answer any concerns you might have durning the call. I can truly say I know my mom is is safe place, and doing very well along with making some new friends.

Arden Courts Memory Care, Elk Grove Village has been vital in the good care for my wife. She has been a resident for three years and each time she drops to a new plateau Arden Courts has risen to the task. The direct staff is caring, professional, communicative and clearly feel called to this vital role. The multiple small house units adds to the sense of family and intimacy. The outdoor courtyards and indoor circular walking loop gives it a small town feel. The cooking and maintenance staff have gone above and beyond on more than one occasion for our family. These last months with Covid19 have been very tough for residents and staff, but all my communications with them have always been positive and sincere. I would encourage any family looking for a quality memory care facility to give Arden Courts Elk Grove Village a serious look.
July 2020
A year and a half ago, I finally had to make the decision to place my wife into a Memory Care facility. Her Dementia was progressing and I could no longer take care of her because of my own physical issues After checking out several facilities, I came to the conclusion that these were all large holding areas with very little personalized care of patients. In my continuing search I came across Arden Courts which has a capacity of 40 residents. After taking the tour, I was impressed with the four separate housesAfter a short period of time at Arden Court my wife started to engage with people again, and was taking part in the activities. What a change for her. The staff is friendly and they get to know the families to keep us informed of whats going on with our loved ones. My family is grateful for the care she gets at Arden Courts.
April 2020
I feel blessed to have found Arden Courts. My mom is doing very well here. She is happy and contentThe staff is kind, caring and perfectly engaging. The administration is very open to discuss any questions, thoughts or issues you may have and they genuinly want to help. The caregivers all build wonderful relationships and trust with each resident. Activities are plentiful and while there are some residents with more progression of the disease than others, I feel the staff has special programs for each level. The outdoor gardens offer an easy outside retreat and the rooms and common areas are very clean and well taken care of.I ended up moving my mom here from another home where she was not not happy. I do wish that I moved her into Arden Courts first. It didnt take me long to realize that she is better off in a place that is ALL Dementia vs. a home that has other levels of care. Since her move to Arden Courts I have been able to feel a great sense of peace. Arden Courts is a very rare and special place with genuine love for their residents.
March 2020
Nothing but praise for this place. In 2017 my mother went into the hospital, and was diagnosed with dementia, and I had to navigate taking guardianship of her, managing her estate, and healthcare. Since my mom transitioned to Arden Courts in early 2018, she has been fed, bathed, watched and cared for. The place is observably *clean*, the staff are attentive, consistently professional, and also warm and supportive toward me and my family. I think its important to visit multiple facilities, as we did, to find the right fit i.e what will be home for your loved one. That being said, this place is definitely worth a visit and consideration.
February 2020
Before she came to Arden Courts, my Mom was hostile to her loving husband of 56 years and she often yelled at the caregivers. Her sleep schedule was erratic. She refused to take any pills. Toileting was always difficult and sometimes it was an epic disaster. Showering was a huge battle. Still, my Dad wanted to keep Mom at home for as long as possible. When I had to travel and the caregivers went back to Lithuania for a week, Dad could not manage Mom on his own. So, Mom came to stay for one week of respite care at Arden Courts. Mom calmed down as soon as we entered the facility. The staff said hello and exchanged some niceties. Then, the Director took Mom by the hand and walked her down to the dining room in the Blue wing. Mom sat down at the table with placemats, dishes and linen napkins. She proceeded to eat an entire plate of food using silverware and she commented to her table-mates how delicious it was. Dad and I were stunned. Mom had refused table food for over 9 months at home and she would only eat chocolate milkshakes (which we secretly doctored with protein powder and veggies). Mom stayed for a week and she was HAPPY. Happier than she was at home, which was a complete surprise to us. We extended her stay for another week – she was still happy. Dad and I decided that Mom was showing us through her mood that this is the place for her now. So, Mom became a full-time resident one year ago in June 2018. She continues to be content, cheerful, and relaxed when we visit several times a week. Mom gained back 15 pounds and graduated from hospice care. The staff has an amazing gentle way of helping their residents feel safe and appreciated and empowered. They are patient and kind and treat the residents with respect. We also like that Arden Courts offers freedom of movement throughout the whole facility plus outdoor access for residents which is far less restrictive than a small memory care hallway within a larger nursing facility. We are deeply grateful for the care and attention that Mom gets from the Arden Courts staff. Five stars!
March 2017
They truly care for our love ones. My aunt was a resident for 4 years. She had the best care. I highly recommend Arden courts in elk grove village. Thank you Patrick and your staff.
February 2016
My mom was at Arden from July 2014 to early April 2015. At no time did my mother ever ask to go home. From the first day she was there the staff new exactly how to transition her to her new environment. The staff are very personable, caring and professional. I liked the 4 home set up and the smaller group setting. My mother was always involved in activities and was rarely in her room. The medical staff took great care of my mom and kept me involved in any changes in her health. I have no complaints. This is a well run facility. I have to say I miss the staff very much. They not only made me feel comfortable, but like family. They often were compassionate and affection with not only my mother but other residents as well. They went above and beyond to assist me especially when I brought my mom back from outings. They welcomed her with literally open arms and helped re-orient my mom to her room. I never saw anything from any staff that would give me cause for concern. They treated everyone as an individual with meaning and purpose no matter their cognitive level. I am in the health care field and consider myself more judgmental of a facility that the average person. I will always have wonderful memories of my mom living there. Consider checking this facility out. (used my sons Google account to post)
