Making the decision to move my mom to an assisted living was one of the hardest decisions me and my siblings have ever made. We were given excellent advice by the home health speech therapist who did her cognitive assessment and determined she had dementia and was no longer safe to live alone, that we should “tour them all; don’t be impressed by a bunch of bells and whistles; trust your gut because you will know when you’ve found the right place.” And she was right! We toured numerous facilities, asked tons of questions, did a lot of observation while touring and found that the Villas of Hollybrook Chatham was the only one that truly felt like a “home” environment and like a senior living community and not like an institution. I have been a nurse for 37 years and have extremely high standards in regards to my expectations for my mother’s care. I have been extremely pleased with my mom’s care! The staff are kind, caring, attentive and always call my mother by name. The residents have been very welcoming and kind to my mom helping her get acclimated and helping her feel included. The food has been very good and the menu is impressive and quite varied. Her apartment is bright with a lot of natural light and opens to an enclosed courtyard where she has her own patio but also a very nice come area in the courtyard that we can use. The 4 seasons room is huge and has a very “at home” feel. They have an activity director, Karen, who is fun, genuinely cares about the residents and engages residents to participate in activities. Mike the maintenance and transport guy is an absolute gem and it is obvious is so loved by the residents and is so good and patient with them! What I have also been very impressed with is that throughout some recent changes in personnel at the administrative and care partner level during the 2 1/2 months my mom has lived there, her level of care has remained consistently great! That speaks volumes to me. Jamie the interim director is amazing and assured that quality of care was not impacted during these staffing transitions. And Andrea the current director has been very approachable and responsive to a concern I had about my mom. I have gotten to know several of the care partners quite well already and some already feel like family to me in even this very short time frame. The Villas of Hollybrook in Chatham came highly recommended to me by people who had previously had loved ones that lived there until they died. I am beyond blessed that my mom’s transition from her own home of 65 years to an assisted living has gone as smoothly as it has! The staff and residents of the Villas have played a huge role in that transition going as well as it has!!!! Included is a picture of my mom “Sassy Shirley” and her elderly cat Ernie in her beautiful apartment and a picture of her lovely patio—-where she is safe, well cared for and I have the peace of mind knowing that! ❤️

My family and I cannot be happier with the care and compassion our mother receives daily from Hollybrook. When we were searching for a place, we wanted the best fit, but most importantly, the best environment where she could be “at home” and we could feel comfortable knowing she is safe and cared for. There were some places that appeared to have all the bells and whistles, but we walked out saying “nope”, because it just didn’t feel right. Hollybrook is such a nice facility, the apartments are spacious and designed well for folks needing assistance, the community areas are beautiful and welcoming. Mom enjoys the meals and the company, the residents who knock on her door to invite her to play Rummy Cube or Bingo, and activity leaders coming to encourage her to participate. Sometimes that is all it takes for her to get up and out. Each room has a double window/door that opens to the residents’ own patio. There are two separate enclosed courtyards where Mom can walk and enjoy the outdoors while remaining safe. Since taking the keys early March, the entire staff has been unbelievably accommodating, and very attentive. They go above and beyond, from the nightly checkins, medicine reminders, meal reminders if needed, and even coming in to help Mom with her compression socks each morning. I live out of state, and have stayed with her a couple times for a few days in her apartment, I walk around the facility, and have always seen positive interactions between the staff and residents. I have talked with quite a few residents both before our decision and during her few months there, and all are complimentary of the staff, whether they have been there for one or five years. Mom was understandably leery about the move because “it isn’t home”, but she continually tells us that it is a great place to be if she can’t be at home, how nice everyone is, how the apartment has her things, so it is hers. We are extremely happy with Hollybrook. I highly recommend you visit if you need to find a great and safe place for your loved one! **BTW: The staff lounge/break room is always wide open when I walk by.

I wish I could give this a higher rating. The facility is just over a year old and is beautiful. The apartments are spacious and bright. The common areas are well maintained and attractive. The staff is all attentive and considerate, although perhaps the staff to patient ratio is somewhat lacking. There doesnt seem to be a real definition of duties. Sometimes the housekeeper is serving lunch or the CNAs are working in the kitchen. I think it would work out better if there was a precise delineation of duties. The worst thing about this facility however, has occurred somewhat recently apparently due to the sale of the facility to Meredian. The dietary situation has severely deteriorated. Food choices have decreased and the amount of food allowed to the residents have been restricted. When my mom moved there, it was promoted as a buffet. My definition of a buffet is you can have whatever is available. Now, however, if two meats or entrees are offered, the resident is only allowed one. If a dessert is offered the resident is only allowed one. They recently instituted a policy that residents could only have ice cream if they purchased it. This was not as described when we visited. I have to say that the serving staff seems very embarrassed about this but they are following instructions. The Meridian representative, at a recent meeting, said the residents could have any groceries in their apartments they wished, but most residents are not paying for an assisted living situation but also have to buy their own groceries also. This is very concerning that the bottom line is now squeezing more profit out of the facility at the expense of the residents going hungry.
