My friend lives there. She loves the place so much. When I've visited her I found the place amazingly clean and all staff very nice and they treat residents with great respect. A beautiful and friendly living place for our loved ones. No place as nice as Bridges of Ankeny. Oh..and the rooms are roomy with private bathrooms.

Not quite sure where to begin.... This place is something else.... My father, who is a VETERAN was admitted for 2 weeks at Bridges following a femur break in 3 places and surgery with a 12 inch steel rod and steel plates with screws. Dad's care up here was the worst that we have ever had. They "forgot" dad's lunch and supper 4 days in a row, and not just him but his entire wing didn't get theirs either. They left him lay in a bed soaked with urine for over 2 1/2 hours and we had to go find a nurse, in the process of speaking with a nurse another nurse told me that they were busy, as she was carrying boxes of rubber gloves to put away. Yep more important to put rubber gloves away rather than help a patient who cant move on their own get cleaned up from a urine soaked bed. He was "forgot" about on the toilet for 45 min and once again had to go track down a nurse, as his legs and fanny were numb for sitting there so long. The pain meds that dad was to be given on a scheduled time was not given for the first 4 days that he was there due to "lack of communication". They sent in 2 orderlies to help move him, and they had no idea what they were doing and forced his leg over which made a loud popping noise and then we had to wait until the next day for x-rays to make sure that they didnt re-break the bone or the steel plates didnt move! The food was not fit for a dog to eat, and when he did get his food it was cold and hard. Funny thing - dad was right across the hall from the kitchen. All we kept hearing while we were there, was all these issues were due to lack of communication. Well then we need to fix this lack of communication. NO person should have to endure this kind of treatment while being in a nursing home whether they are there long term or short term. Its sad all that he endured in the 2 weeks that he was there. This is a beautiful newer place, but they just dont have it together. Such a lack of communication, and it doesnt seem that anyone there gives a damn to do anything to make it better. We did have a couple really nice nurses, and that did help with all the bad he endured. I would not refer anyone to this place! It is so PATHETIC that our elderly loved ones have to endure this kind of care! They deserve so much better!

I really can't say enough good about this place. We moved our mother here from a facility that was horrible to her and made her health severely decline. She has never been so happy, well cared for and genuinely in love with where she lives. She has regained her independence with how much she has improved in therapy. She can now walk unassisted and up stairs. When we left the prior facility she required help even to stand to get into a wheelchair. The management has been fantastic and extremely responsive. I receive communication for every issue, med change etc they find with my mom. She is smiling and laughing and visiting with other residents when I stop in unannounced. I really couldn't ask for much more in a care facility. Her life has completely improved for the better in the three months she has lived here. Huge thanks to the Bridges staff for all they do.

I know people tend to write reviews when they feel they have been treated wrongly or are angry about something. That is not the case here. The staff was kind, caring, knowledgeable. They were friendly and cared about the residents. The therapy department is top-notch. They encourage you to do your best and applaud your successes. The puppies are an added bonus. The problem is the management of the facility. They are understaffed with one CNA per wing to care for 10 to 20 people. There is often a floater for two wings. That is not adequate. Call buttons are not answered promptly. The information states that call lights are answered in 5 to 10 minutes. That is a lie. It takes 30 minutes if not longer. That happens because there is not enough staff. The lights they are installing above the door to each room is not going to take care of this problem. They will still be understaffed. An inspection report dated February 20, 2025, sited this facility as failing to provide enough nursing staff to meet the needs of every resident; and have a licensed nurse in charge on each shift. This was also stated in a report dated September 24, 2024. When your priority is showing a profit, resident’s welfare is at risk. The food is AWFUL! They claim the meals are chef-planned. No chef I know would serve such crap. Meals are not served at the listed times, usually an hour or more late. Most are not served at the correct temperature which is a health code violation. Their information states that dietician services include diabetic management. That is another lie! Meals are all high in carbohydrates and low in protein. It is a shame that management’s top priority is making a profit. There is nothing wrong with that unless sacrifices are made in the resident’s care to do so. Employees should not be blamed for staffing inadequacies which they do not cause. They should not have to apologize for poor management. The care and wellbeing of residents should not have to suffer because of poor management.

The level of care has drastically fallen off since a company from Illinois has bought this facility. This facility no longer deserves a governor's award for top service. Since an investment firm has taken over there are severe lapses in facility care. Examples: the are fewer nurses staff in each wing. Some wings security doors no longer work. Restrooms have stopped up toilets that go weeks without being addressed. Further, the monthly patient reviews only occur when asked for they are no longer proactively booked. Lastly, forget about reaching nursing stations for a given wing. Staffing is so insufficient that some wings no longer respond. Further, staff is refusing to give their names so there is little if any recourse for patient care follow up. This is perhaps the most expensive care facility in state of Iowa. They no longer deserve your patronage nor the governor's approval.

The sad truth is that happy consumers rarely post reviews. Pissed off consumers do. So thats what is most visible on a google search. My experience with The Bridges is that the team is tirelessly committed to overcoming all of the obstacles that came with COVID. I know that there are nurses there working 16 hour days and not one will complain. I know that when i walk down the hall, I hear nurses and CNAs interacting with residents, as friends, not as a responsibility. I know that these nurses entered this profession out of a love for it and even when they are being beaten down, they will find their last reserve to answer call lights, spend a few extra minutes reassuring a confused resident, and hugging someone who just needed a hug. If you are considering The Bridges, do your due diligence and make sure your loved one will be safe. Talk to other residents or family members. Spend a few hours observing. Talk to staff. I believe you will find consistently content residents, highly qualified, caring and dedicated staff, and if you dig into angry reviews, make sure you arent experiencing the rants of an entitled narcissist that barges into private meetings demanding preferential treatment, or some Karen with an obsessive need to control everything.

My mother was there for all almost two years and received excellent care. Caring nurses and CNAs. Very nice, clean, newer facility. Lots of windows and open areas. We inspected several care centers before selecting Bridges. None of them were as nice. It is a little more expensive but you get what you pay for. Thanks to Juanita Galusha For her kindness and willingness to always be there for me.

My dad recently had about a month of skilled rehab at Bridges, during the quarantine. While it was sad to not be able to visit him (save for a couple "window visits,") the staff treated him very kindly. The nurses were very kind to him. The nurses were very nice, but the process of inquiring for information (related to becoming a resident) left a little to be desired (my first online inquiry wasn't replied to, had to send a 2nd one).

This is a wonderful place.Nurses hear care about me. Kristina who has been my nurse at times does an extra caring job.When I need something she makes sure more is done right away. My friend who assists me said she thought this place was so good because nurses call her if anything changes. I feel I'm in a great place where I receive wonderful help. I want to say thank you to everyone but I could never remember all the names.

After a second stay with The Bridges I want to update my feedback as we had a completely different experience. The stay this past December was a wonderful experience. From increased staff to structure around meals and nurse visits we were able to relax and focus 100 percent of our time on helping my grandfather thru his rehab. The staff in the physical therapy center worked well to coordinate sessions and adjust his treatments since he was responding so well. We appreciated the communication in the one on one staff meetings that were held with us to ensure everyone was on the same page with my grandfather’s progress and next steps. I highly recommend this facility for anyone looking to place a loved one be it short term or long term needs.

Every visit to Iowa I come to see my grandma and she is surrounded by staff that really are compassionate and hard working individuals. They dedicate their time making puzzles, arts and crafts. I’ve been to other care centers that haven’t come close to this level of cleanliness, love and compassion.
