A Home Away From Home: My Experience at Colonial Assisted Living Colonial Assisted Living in West Palm Beach has been a wonderful choice for my mother. She's been a resident for about a year and a half, and we've been consistently impressed with the quality of care and the friendly atmosphere. One of the aspects we appreciate most is the exceptional staff. The front desk team, in particular, has always been incredibly helpful and accommodating. Their friendly demeanor and willingness to assist make us feel at ease knowing our mother is in good hands. The facility itself is well-maintained and offers a comfortable living environment. The amenities and activities provided seem to keep the residents engaged and happy. We've noticed a significant improvement in my mother's overall well-being since she moved in. It's never easy to decide a loved one needs more care and attention than a family member can do. But that's where Colonial Assisted living of West Palm Beach came in. The facility is not new or fancy but the care is what really counts. The care is outstanding!! I was laughed at and said they were not interested. The people who answered the phone laughed at me and denied me to speak with the nursing director. They then hung up the phone. I could go on and on and on and ON about how amazing the staff is here at Colonial Assisted Living - Datura Street. So… I will. It all starts with the Administrator, Nichelle. When we were looking at options for my dad (an 84 yr old blind widower), we knew that finding a community with genuine, compassionate, and CARING staff was far more important than anything aesthetic or "fancy." My dad has always lived a simple life and the quality of the people who surround him and the sincerity of the caregivers who attend to him is what's most important to him. In my initial interactions with Nichelle, it was abundantly clear to me that she exemplifies everything that my dad needs and wants. She is real, relatable, patient, empathetic, and finds ways to help residents maintain their dignity and independence even as they experience symptoms of aging and decline. She's an angel. And after meeting her and learning about the longevity and continuity of her team, I knew Colonial would ultimately be the right choice. With a leader like Nichelle, it's not surprising that the rest of the staff mirror her strengths and character: - Lockeria is highly responsive and takes initiative to make sure that my Dad's medications and other health related needs are attended to. - Regina makes him feel at home and finds so many little ways to make him feel like he is attended to and loved. - Lena stays on top of everything is so great about keeping at watchful eye and helping the family informed. - Zack literally does it all and treats my dad like "his dad. - The dining hall staff is great, too! My dad is a picky eater (a former chef) and always talks about how happy he is with the food at Colonial. The cooks will check on him and offer to make him things that he enjoys eating… and means SOOOOO much to him. More than anything else, I really just have to say THANK YOU!!! When my dad first arrived at Colonial, it was not an easy transition. He was still adapting to losing his vision and other family members were VERY difficult to work with and made it hard for my dad to initially embrace what makes this place so special. However, at no point was the staff discouraged. They maintained a positive attitude and consistently showed up for my dad everyday. It actually wasn't until after a post-hospital stay in a long term care facility that my dad fully realized how GREAT the team at Colonial truly is. QUALITY care (like what is provided at Colonial) is so much more valuable than the finishes inside or a room or the curb appeal of a building. Because of that, my dad is happy to call Colonial his home. Really, EVERYONE at Colonial Assisted Living - Datura Street is so compassionate and sincere. And even though the building itself could use some updating and TLC, to my dad, it doesn't even matter. He is HAPPY because he knows that he is well cared for and that he has everything that he needs.

We are residents that live in the facility. We just have to say that Nichelle Williams is the most amazing person. She has the biggest heart of anyone we have ever seen. She is our sister we are extremely close to her. She has taken us under her wing. Unfortunately we have some family struggles and she has always been there for us. We lost our parents to leukemia and dementia and we could have never gotten through without the love and support that she gives us. We believe that we were destined to meet her. Our father would have loved her and she has been a wonderful role model for us. She has been our family when we thought we had no one. She works hard to make everyone feel at home, the residents love her as well and she never stops trying to make everyone happy. If there were more people in the world like her, the world would be a better place. We just adore our "Chocolate Doll" AKA Nichelle Williams, we call her our Chocolate Doll.

The Colonial on Datura St boasts many amenities. This ALF has an excellent location, downtown WPB. Within walking distance is Publix, Clematis St. fabulous shopping, waterviews, parks, unique and family dining. Greeting guests at the front door are the smiling faces of Lina, or Regina. Regina with her dazzling smile will escort you to Nichelle Williams. ,Executive Director . This is the only facility after touring many, that the ED is always visible to families and residents. An historical old building that has ongoing upgrades, a fabulous patio, and a wonderful and compassionate staff. The residents and ambiance make this Colonial close to being, almost home.

We have a new director at the facility and her name is Dana Salsbury she is absolutely the nicest person you would ever want to meet. My sister and I became instant friends with her. She is always there helping us and she is not just wonderful to us she is wonderful to everyone. She happens to be the best director that we have ever had. Staken him under her wing and they are the best of friends. We have never seen John talk or smile. Since Dana has been at the facility John is talking and smiling. Dana has given John a purpose and a reason to live. It is really amazing he is really happy. And his health is better since Dana has been here. These are just a few amazing things that miss Dana has been doing we feel really blessed to have her. Thank you so much for reading this. This facility has an amazing staff everyone really cares.

I’ve been working at Colonial for about 3 months now. The facility is well ran as every staff member upholds their responsibilities to their very best efforts. Even the residents are welcoming and there’s never a dull moment. Daily activities and holidays are all very exciting and inclusive ! Revised review 10-5-2022: I'm still living at Colonial WPB 1year and 6months (18 months) I've made a lot of friends during that time. The Customer service of the staff of Colonial West Palm Beach is second to none. Each unit has it's own air conditioning unit so you can control the temperature of the room. Cable is available. Land lines are available. Wi-Fi is available. Penthouse suites are sometimes available. Though this historic hotel was built in 1928, the whole building has water sprinklers in case of fire. The fire exits are clearly marked. Escape routes are posted. There is a shaded covered section for non-smokers and a shaded section for smokers outside in the garden where it is breezy from October -> April. Unshaded garden benches are also available if you want to sit in the sun. The activities director accompanies us on shopping  trips almost weekly to Walmart, Dollar Tree, or the outlet mall. She also takes us on special buffet trips like Golden Coral in the Colonial Van. The friendly resident care specialist check on you in the morning and Med Techs check on you at night. The maintenance and housekeeping department clean the rooms daily and even dust my Yamaha Keyboard . If you notify the kitchen that you'll be returning late, they can save a plate for you. The semi-private showers are beautiful and spacious. The chef and skilled cooks prepare three meals/ day plus snacks twice a day. Juices, drinks, coffee and fresh fruit is available. I transferred from Colonial Miami where I spent 2years and 4 months and thought that was as good as it gets. When I needed to move, I decided to stay with the company since I like how I am treated. Colonial WPB arranges for psychiatric, psychological, physical (including medical, dental, foot care, meals, snacks, cool water, cool beverages). However, if you want, you can make your own arrangements subject to their approval. Beautiful Birds and fish for your enjoyment.

I have visited Colonial of West Palm several of times and each time I have gone the place was clean and the staff was exceptional. The staff was familiar and respectful to the residents almost family like. The facility was clean and smelled great. The thing that stuck out the most is the smiles on the residents faces and interaction with the staff.
