I am a resident of The Villa At Venice. I honestly do not know where I would be without the staff. The staff and Directors are always there for me if I have a problem of any kind, or even when I don't. I refer to them as my Wizard Of Oz. My favorite movie of all time. They all play a role in my life. I honestly would not know where I would be if I wasn't right here. If I have a frown on my face every single one of them always ask what is wrong. I see them all working together as a team. The Entire Staff and Directors have been amazing and entirely great ful.

On numerous occasions, VPD has responded to various calls for service at The Pavilion, an assisted living facility on Nassau St. -- everything from disturbances to medical emergencies during which officers noted deplorable conditions/resident care and unsafe living conditions. Because of VPD’s involvement and reporting, an investigation of elderly abuse and neglect was launched, which began in December 2022 and has continued into July of this year. Detectives began their investigation and requested the assistance of the Community Resource Unit, which quickly revealed poor conditions in The Pavilion’s Memory Care Unit and throughout the facility. The investigation included various agencies and departments including City Code Enforcement, Venice Fire Rescue and Fire Marshal, Department of Child and Family Services, Department of Health, Ombudsman Program, and the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Multiple health and safety violations were found. The investigation also revealed lack of staff, poor staff response, a consistently broken-down transportation bus and broken elevator. Her interviews with prior staff members and directors who had resigned or been terminated revealed the owner of the facility, [name removed], 32, as the person responsible for the poor conditions and numerous violations regarding the facility. After compiling all of the official documentation from all of the various agencies, all of the witness and complainant statements, and all of the videos/photographs showing the disrepair and neglect, it was clear [name removed] was aware of the numerous staffing problems, failed to have proper supervision and conditions for the memory care patients, and knew of the neglect to the building and rooms, yet refused to correct the problems even after being cited by the AHCA. An arrest warrant for [name removed] was executed on July 26, 2024, by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. [name removed] was charged with neglect of an elderly disabled adult without great bodily harm, a third-degree felony. He was released after posting $5,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for Aug. 9 in Sarasota County.

Beautiful old building. I was born there in 1945. It had been a hotel, but was taken over for an Army hospital during WWII, and my father was stationed in Sarasota. I haven't been back in over 50 years, but I've heard it still looks just as beautiful because of the restoration.
